You get paid for the whole line count in the report.

Only on QA do some companies (GRRR) pay for just a certain amount of lines or what you actually type in the blanks.

VR is the same line count as text reports - and the whole report.  Hope this helps you.  You might want to check with your company to confirm though, lots of weird stuff going on with some of them;-)

Futurenet AQ not paid by report any more? Going to line rate.

sucks

TransHealth has paid holidays. nm

I'm paid by report...
make about $25/hr., and I think a year of radiology experience is plenty if you are really good. So go 4 it!
Do you get paid per report?
or hourly? If you get paid per report that would be easy to verify.
QAs are paid the same whether your report is
100% perfect or full of errors. We're not paid extra to find fault.

It's a waste of time & money for the company to keep her on QA this long, but it's not costing her anything.
paid by the report
I currently get paid by the report for radiology work. It has its ups and downs. I would say that it depends alot on the platform as well. The good side of being paid by the report is that any report over 2.5 minutes we get to add an additional report on top of that and we also get to add additional reports to a report that have one or more links(CT abdomen and pelvis). Personally I would not take a job that pays less than 1.20 for a radiology report. If that is the case I would say you would make more getting by the line. I hope this helps.
Being Paid by Report

I've got two firm offers from very reputable employers.  One is paid per report while the other is paid by the line.  One is Radiology, the other is multispecialty.

I'd like to hear from some of the MTs here who are, or have been, paid by report for radiology.  I've heard horror stories about getting $1.10-1.35 per report, and having an entire shift filled with detailed CTs and MRIs with very few simple plain film studies.  Conversely, I can also see where if one were lucky enough to get a run of negative plain film studies, one could conceivably make a great deal of money.

Being relatively new to subcontracting, I'd love some advice from the MTs here about what you feel is the most beneficial method of being paid.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

being paid by report
I agree!!   I was offered $1.05 to $1.10 as an employee status...
Anyone you sub for is going to report they paid you
When you do your taxes, the IRS could be alerted since the contractor you work for will write it off.  It's just not a good idea.  Why not send out resumes offering as needed services to different companies.  You might be surprised what you find.
Did you ask for more if you were paid by the report? sm
I work for KS and have for a few years. If there is an account that does not have enough work or slows down, they always have more. I would give them a try. I know they are starting a few more accounts in the next few weeks; they have a lot of radiology!
Paid for the whole report and you're right about
why you'd likely be fired after the adjustment time if you're not making at least min wage.  The employer would need to supplement your income to bring you to at least min wage for your state.
TransHealth has paid holidays for full timers. nm

It just depends on how long the report is. Are you paid by

TransHealth has great benefits, PTO, paid holidays for fulltimers. nm

TransHealth has 6 paid holidays in addition to PTO and sick pay for fulltimers. nm

I pulled a report I did today. I get paid 65 characters.

At 65 characters it was 110 lines and at 55 it was 130.   If the 65 is employee status and there are other benefits that would be the one I would choose.  If you don't have benefits it would probably be 6 of one and half-dozen of the other.

Sorry couldn't be more helpful.  Having to make a decision too.  One job pays more per line but no benefits, no bonuses.  The other job pays a little bit less but has incentives and good benefits.   Sounds like a no brainer but it is still hard to decide.

I would look at how productive you could be.  I know you probably don't have any idea if you aren't familiar with the account.  I'd also look at the stability of the company.  There are no guarantees, but if there is a mom and pop company, versus a 300+ MT company, that may play a factor.  Check the boards on both companies (I'm assuming it is 2 different companies but maybe it is just pay scale difference) and see what others have said about them.  Tons of ESLs, hard to make lines, very inflexible with schedule, etc.

You can take job #1, but there is no law that says you are there for the next 2 years and maybe job #2 will still be willing to hire you.

I have to say I disagree. QA is not paid to find faults with your report. sm
QA is paid to make sure the report is as close to 100% correct before the client sees it. However, I truly agree with you that anyone on QA hold for more than a month is beyond ridiculous. Where I work, I have seen people on hold for more than a month but it was truly because of poor transcription work and has nothing at all to do with the QA people.
Not paid for the WHOLE report? Classless highway robbery by that company. nm
.
Line on each report..
I was not given that info. I guess that would vary though, wouldn't it? These are acute care reports. Thanks anyway.
pay is per line not per report..

By Line or By Report - sm
After reading the posts below, I feel I need to add another opinion. I have done radiology both ways - by line and by report - and you can make money both ways, BUT, the platform that you type on is the deciding factor. If it is slow and not user friendly, forget it. If you have to add lots of demographics, forget it. If the spellchecker is awful, forget it. If you cannot use a text expander, forget it. You won't make good money either by line or report if you don't have a good, fast platform with lots of text Expander entries and a good spellchecker. Just my 2 cents.
Per line or per report
Opinions please. I recently had to move on from what I considered a great account (extremely well paying), because the transcription service lost the account and they are focusing on full-time position whereas I want PT. I am working with a company who pays 0.08 per line and was offered a job with another company who pays $1.20 per report. I usually work in the mornings about 5 hours, with Radiology. Does anyone have suggestions as to which is better? Thanks. I don't want to mention the companies because I want to keep it to the subject not start a company bashing. Thanks for your input.
Rad by report, HIM by line
Rad is paid on per report basis, whereas HIM is by the line. It depends on the account as well.
How does MDI pay for Rad, per report or by the line? nm

Line versus report

I do radiology for a large national and a small service. The large national pays per examination not report and the small service pays per line.  If the large national were paying per line, I would make a lot more than I do now due to the fact that most of the reports I type for them are very long (some as long as 15 minutes!). If I were being paid per line, I would be happy to type these long winded reports, but I am not getting paid like that by them. The small service pays me per line and when I get a long report, instead of thinking, Oh no!, I am thinking :CA-CHING!! Every account is different but this has been my experience after 11 years.  Good luck to you.

line versus report
I am getting paid by the report and have always gotten paid by the line. Maybe thats my problem. I make my quoata most days, but when we have a lot long reports back to back, I only get half of my quota and that's my big concern. Even with short reports, I usually type 1600 to 1850 lines per day and with the long reports, making only half my quota (64), I had 1240 lines and was just discouraged, as I only make 1.05 per report.
I know Precyse used to pay 1 line for each report; don't know if
nm
I know a place where they doc you 1 line for every report sm
for headers and footers. IF is really 65 characters, fine, but mostly it is not. On a short 3-line report you end up paying the company for allowing you to type it.
some rad accounts pay per line/some per report.
I would call and ask them these type of company policy questions. They are nice people.

This place is for the hands-on side of day-to-day working for a company and those experiences encountered.
Most KS rad accounts are by the report with a few by the line. sm
By the minute in radiology would kill your pay as most are under a minute.

The only reason the one MedSurg account is by the minute is because their system has a lousy line counter that was not accurate, so KS managers told them that we could not use it and they figured out a way to do it by the minute. I have worked on that account in the past when they were in a bind but I do radiology 99% of the time.

Welcome to Keystrokes! They definitely have the best rad accounts out there!
Is it difficult to make line count at TransHealth? nm

Radiology by the line for one account and by the report sm
for another. I make more by the report though.
radiology line versus report
I think the answer is to ask your recruiter at the start about the account you will be on and hope she will be truthful. I was outsourced from a hosp. not long ago, offered a job with the company hospital was going with so already knew the docs and reports. These were very wordy docs and the new company was going to pay us by report. Didn't not take the job because I knew ahead of time the reports were much too long to be paid by report.
Would have taken the job if
only they had paid by line.
Asked up front next time about account and was told
reports were mostly short
and normal. I was lucky
enough to find truthful recruiter. Hope this helps.
Mt's are not allowed to see line count per report.
We have no way to see by job numbers after the report leaves our hands. We never see that job # again, not even on our paychecks, just says piece work.
I have a by-the-line rad report with them and have great counts! sm
I think that some accounts need to be by the line and some by the report. My backup account has short reports and by the report makes more sense by primary has a lot of rads who like their own voices so by the line is definitely better. I do a minimum of 1500 lines a day and I do not work over 8 hours as I have a disabled husband.
TransHealth pays for spaces & headers on a 65 character line. sm
I recommend them highly.  Stable company, good platform, great benefits.  I'm happy there.
At TransHealth, once you meet your minimum required line count...sm

(I believe it is 11,000 for full-timers), there are levels for every x number of lines above your minimum, and you get extra cpl for those lines.  It is incremental, so the more you transcribe above your minimum, the higher your cpl.  It can boost your paycheck by $500 if you really haul.  They also pay a weekend differential of extra cpl for weekend work.

I think most companies work that way.  Bonus pay is usually an increase in cpl when you exceed your minimum.

I've not had much experience with incentive pay prior to TransHealth - so there may be many other ways that bonus pay is given.  Works for me though.

$2.50/report own account - .17/line small MTSO

Their ads say .09 per line, 1.10 per report, which you could have saved yourself time by reading.

Rad pays by line and by report, depending on the account
I have had rad accounts at Keystrokes pay both ways.  I haven't heard of one that pays for reports over 2 minutes, but it all depends on the client.  Your starting rate typically depends on your experience.  Everyone at Keystrokes is super-nice, you will like working with them.  Agree with poster who said get a backup account from day 1.  Getting IDs for your account can take quite a bit of time, so be prepared to wait.  Good luck.

Phoenix MedCom shows you every report and every line counted,
with Word verification. They use 2 programs, internet for the newer programs, and a word-based program for those on Lanier and Dictaphone. But their programs show the verification of the job and line count no matter which platform you transcribe on. They have two rates...the internet platform pays for spaces, and the other is not with spaces but line rate is higher.
I don't get paid by the line so don't know, sorry.

I'm paid by the line. nm

Wish I could help you but paid by the line
but the hours are definitely great - IC and great schedule.   Good with the bad I guess?
Paid by the line
I am miserable because I'm paid by the line. I'm expected to provide constant feedback, yet I'm not paid extra for all of the feedback emails. I also wish I could find a good company that pays hourly, working any shift.
I get paid per line. They
finally answered me today and said there is a bug in iType and it duplicates reports and the count on iType will always be higher than what it really is. I guess it I continue working for them, I will have to keep track of each report and how many lines instead of just going by daily lines as I have been. I am working for another company now, though, that pays much better, so hopefully this will work out better! Waiting for the first check
