TransTech VR - anyone take the mttest speech

Has anyone taken the Speech Recognition Test at mttest.com when you applied with TransTech? There are 11 speech recognition files that you have to correct. I am wondering how accurate those files are compared to the actual VR reports you ended up editing at TransTech. If they are representative of what you actually get to work on, that might be a good way for MTs who have never done VR to get a taste of it before they apply for jobs at companies that have a majority of VR versus straight typing. I started taking them, but had to quit because my laptop battery was running out. Not sure if I want to go back to complete them because I am not sure I want to learn VR either.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Speech at Transtech
I was told speech was going to be implemented on my account ... was told they would get back with me ... then that they had run into some snags. I work on ML. Just wondering if anyone does speech with this account. Seems to be it might be a difficult account to use speech with because of total capitalization of meds and a few other things. I don't know if that is something the speech recognition computer can learn.
Anyone doing speech on ML at TT?
Transtech speech
I asked this the other day, but never got any response, so I will try again. I would ask on the other board for TT people, but nobody ever seems to go there. For those of you who started speech a few weeks ago, is you line count getting any higher? I am getting so frustrated. I am just now barely doing what I was doing straight typing (meaning the same line count for about half the pay). I don't see how I will ever get fast enough to equal what I was making straight typing. It may be time to look for another job, but I think they are all doing VR anyway. It is just so unfair to the MTs, basically just a huge paycut.
Transtech new speech platform
Has anyone tried this out yet, and what is your opinion. Please feel free to e-mail me if you wish. Thanks!
Yes, TransTech does pay for speech training...
Eight hours pay
Does Transtech speech have plenty of work

Anyone recently do testing with Transtech for Speech?
Just wondering how difficult the testing is or isn't
mttest
If you want to email me, I can help you with any questions regarding MTtest.
About mttest.com. I have never used it but
Why isn't there a site like that where MTs can go and take the test and then their score/test/information is there on file for MT companies to look at? Maybe there could be a way to just assign each MT a number or something if privacy would be an issue. But the MT companies could go through and select who they want to offer a job based on what they see on the tests.
I am happy with the company I'm with now but if I could have my test on file and companies could access it and offer me jobs based on what they see on my test, I would always be open to listening to what they have to offer me if they price is right.
I know there is Transcription Matchmaker, but this would have the testing already done. Obviously it wouldn't make sense for MTs to be able to go back and redo the test repeatedly but maybe they could retest once a year and the test could be changed once a year, and that way if someone's skills have improved their test on file reflects that?
Just an idea.
Has anyone tested through mttest.com? Thanks. nm

I just took the Mttest for Amphion -sm
I bet I went through an hour of booting and rebooting and starting the longer file over again. I finally went to my laptop and it worked okay then.
Needless to say I haven't heard from them, but in the meantime I got a really good job, so I don't care.
MTTEST WEBSITE???
If it is on the MT test website you can use your F1 Play/Pause, F8 rewind, and F2 fast forwards it. Hope this helps.
Companies testing on mttest ... sm
I tested for 3 companies. All 3 used the mttest testing site. I think CareerStep handles that.
Some of the same questions on the objective portions. Not the same reports on the practical portion but nearly identical.
Results: Passed 2 companies. Failed 1 company.
Asked for my results: None of the 3 will give me actual copies - I understand and respect. However, they all 3 did give me my scores. The failed test was significantly lower, I might add. The failed test was the only exam that asked how much pay I wanted up front.
Virtually the same test ...significant difference in scores.
So, my conclusion, having done exceptionally well with 2 others and then bombed one withsuch a bad result, reported to me at first I passed and then I only passed for a lower role, and then the difference in scores, and they are the ones who asked for pay up front ... it is in how they grade and how much you want to be paid.
Too funny.
I did 2 tests the last couple of days, both through mttest, though
the tests were different. One test took about probably 45 minutes and that didn't include the transcription part. I started the transcription and the dictation was so horrendous - sound quality really bad, barely able to hear any of the dictation, 2 ESL docs, and 1 really fast talking U.S. doc. I do about 90% ESL, but goodness. I have nearly 20 years' experience and I have decided it just isn't worth my time to do the transcription part. I'm trying to get out of a stressful situation currently, and this didn't seem like it was going to be the answer. I know that it was only a small representation, and I feel sorry for anyone without lots of experience trying to take the test.
The second test was so easy and even with transcribing the dictation I think it only took me 45 minutes tops.
I don't know why I continue to test and look for another position, because I'm fairly comfortable with my dictators, my company leaves me alone 99% of the time, good line counting program, etc. and I turn down every position I'm offered because: 1 - no one offers me as much money (even though I'm not making gobs of money); 2 - no one offers me the flexibility that I currently have, although I don't have as much as I used to have; 3 - I've got 5 years invested in this company and I know what to expect; 4 - while QA is pretty stringent I'm 99% or better and go weeks at a time without getting anything back ....... I just need a change of pace, but at the same time I don't like change, I don't want to learn new dictators, don't want to learn a new format, don't want to learn the quirks of QA and all the other stuff that goes along with a new account/new company.
I think the last 6 months I've tested and been offered 8 positions and some companies continue to call me and none has anything better to offer me.
If they use MTTEST by Career Step - Don't bother...
...just like Career Step's program, MTtest is GREATLY flawed. And the potential employers don't bother to review this or your testing. If an employer lazily uses MTTest (and is recruiting people to buy Career Step's scam terrible training program), I don't bother. Even if you get it right, the module is flawed and will likely say you got it wrong. Don't waste your time being insulted by same.
Companies that actually send you dictation to transcribe are the best to test with. They test your true knowledge/ability, not through a flawed and inadequate multiple choice module that's sole purpose is to recruit people to Career Step.
Just my 2 cents... :O)
Yes, MTTest does cut you off if you've made too many errors up to that point.

Is the test through mttest.com a timed test? Thanks. nm
speech rec
Speech rec MTs, how do you like it? Do you make good money with speech rec? Please share the pros and cons? Thank you. Email me if you can. Thanks!
Speech
What are the advantages to going to speech recognition? It it cumbersome to work without the foot pedal. What about switching back and forth?
Speech
Thanks for your input.
Speech
Can you say what VR system you use? I have used Dictaphone and love it and MQs ASR and lose so much time and money with that.
Speech
Am curious. If speech is supposted to save the clients money, who takes the hit? The MTs? What are companies paying MTs for speech recognition? Are there any very productive text transcriptionists out there who have switched to speech and made more on speech? MT replies only, please. Thanks!
TT speech
Is that because of the speech program? What is the approximate percentage of speech/regular transcription that you do? I hope I don't end up with all speech. It would bore me to death.
TT Speech
Has anybody who started speech with TT in the last 2 weeks seen any increase in their speed/line count. Just getting my bill ready to send tonight, and it is not pretty. I did start to get faster as the days went on, but don't think I am going to get a heck of a lot faster, but I guess the workload hasn't helped much either.
speech recognition
We won't become obsolete, but we will become trained as editors in speech recognition if we want to keep our jobs. Spheris already is doing this on 1 account they have. Other employers probably are too and will follow suit. It's coming. (I've been resistant but want to keep my job.) It's not so horrible, just learning the hot keys or function keys. The MTs who initially resisted and were trained in speech recognition now love it and can't imagine going back to straight typing. Yes, I can't believe I'm saying this, but ALL MTs who trained on this who hated it at first now Love It. Something to think about.
VR/speech recognition
I COMPLETELY agree with PathGuy on this one. What I was told the basics of the VR were that the physician dictates into their system. If his/her voice is easy to understand, eventually VR is able to record his voice, thus turn it into VR/speech recognition report/s. BUT, there are many, many ESL dictators and EFL dictators who have nuances in their voices, etc., that the VR WILL NEVER be able to adapt to. This, my friends, means that a Transcriptionist must always be needed to translate what is dictated. This we have some comfort in, because there are always a lot of dictators out there that VR will not be able to do that part of the job. This is not to say that the Transcriptionist is left with the worst dictators, but it DOES SAY that VR/speech recognition does have its limitations. Bravo to PathGuy. I believe that a lot of docs WANT AN MT transcribing their work and not some VR system because the MT IS MORE CAREFUL WITH THE DICTATION/REPORT. Kudos to us!!

Do you know what the right of free speech is?
It does not apply to private company matters, etc.
Geez.
Spheris Speech
Can anybody tell me about the platform Spheris uses for Speech recognition?
Speech recognition
There is no way I doubled my lines and I was good at doing Speech recognition, in fact had my employer asking me to help others achieve their goals in speech.
I hated it because there was no money in it and it is faster for me to type and edit my own work than try to interpret what the computer is spitting out
Speech speed?
You are so right. If you have lousy dictators it is easier to type them from scratch than to correct the system errors made because of them. I had to go to speech and my checks are down 40%. What system were you using? The one I am on is awful. It types every grunt and entire phrases the dictator did not say. For me it is easier to do ESLs than speech, at least with the system and dictators I have. Is there a better system out there?
Speech rate
Fifteen percent less would be more like it. Speech is for the benefit of the client, it's just not worth it, and the lure is....you can do twice as much work. Bunk! Lousy dictators come through speech just like text with all their grunts, um's, ah's, burps, and belches being printed by the system for us to remove! It's certainly cheaper for the client. Exploitation starts in the board rooms!
Speech/voice
You are so right! Some of the idiotic things typed by the speech systems make me cringe. Presbyacusis came out please be a Q-tip. I hope those people sitting in the board rooms drooling at the prospect of makeing more off the backs of transcriptionists get a wakeup call when they are hit with lawsuits because of system errors not caught by fatigued editors trying to walk on water for 3 to 4 cents a line. I prefer to take responsibility for my own documents, not those created by speech recognition.
speech recognition
I think at this point I have just about been beaten. I thought I found the perfect place where I could stay and transcribe, and less than 6 months into it I have lost a ton of my work, not due to speech recognition but due to EMR. It keeps happening to me! I'm throwing up my hands at this point. I'll try editing at a new company and maybe I'll be able to stay put for more than 6 months before new technology eats my job again. I understand that you want to transcribe and not edit and I hope you find a good company. I just don't think anyone is safe from either EMR or ASR anymore. Best of luck to you.
speech recognition
i am new in this business and I was wondering why doesnt anyone use speech recognition to get a better line count? Is this just wishful thinking on my part. I just heard about this product called Naturally speaking today and it seems like a dream come true for any MT, though obviously unethical? Any opinions or experiences?
Speech recognition
I am tired of killing myself and ending up with nothing, so I was considering speech recognition. I just found a very affordable program called Speech to text that gives you a 30 day free trial. I know it has good and bad points, but has anyone out there ever tried speech recognition to make more money as an MT?
speech recognition
I was wondering about the pay rate (the usual pay rate). I was just notified by my current company that the speech recognition rate received is 5 cents a line. Is that one everyone else is getting for speech recognition. I understand the thinking is the pay is low because it is not much typing???
If using Speech Recognition, I don't like it. nm

Speech recognition
Go to Google and put in voice recognition. The first thing that shows up is link to wikipedia. Scroll down a bit to Applications and Healthcare. It explains everything in that article. You can also go to other links that show up, too. Remember, research is a vital tool for an MT. I hope this helps.
Speech Recognition
The computer records the speech and the MT goes in and reviews the report to make sure everything is correct.
I am sure MTs know that RESEARCH is vital in our job. So is professionalism, some people should do some RESEARCH on it!!!!
speech work
I started part time in June with TT. I added speech editing this month. I'm getting more speech than traditional. A couple of days last week, it was almost all speech, but I had asked to learn speech editing. They sent out an e-mail to see who wanted that training and I had been wanting to try it for a long time. I work 1:00 PM until bedtime. I have had plenty of work. From the e-mails we get, I gather there is more work in the afternoon and evening than morning because, after all, the docs dictate after they see patients and do procedures.
Speech recognition.

MT is going to speech rec and we're on the way out. sm
I hate speech recognition and that's where it's all going eventually, if not overseas. It's a little late in life to change careers at 50 yrs old, but I dont have much of a choice. I'm taking tech school computer courses at nite and out of this MT crap in 2 years.
Text to Speech
I still have not heard from anybody who was very productive in text making more money in speech. If the clients are going to save money on speech recognition, somebody has to lose, don't they?
EXText speech
SM - We are doing Turbo Speech on the EXText platform. We have been told by Dictaphone that the best we can ever hope to achieve is 400 lines per hour, at best! I've gotten that like once or twice in the 2 months I've been in the system. I usually get just over 300. You do the math. I was pulling 180 to 250 in text so I would have to do 360 to 500 to make the same income. Also, Turbo doesn't have a cursor following along if that makes a difference to you. You can improve, but our clinic is putting all the docs on speech, even ESLs and we end up having to do LOTS of corrections which slows us down a lot. Good luck to you!
Well, I do both speech and traditional
Can't keep this up much longer.
I have done VR - escription and Speech Q
And I refuse to do them. Maybe I didn't make myself clear the first time.
FREEDOM OF SPEECH
It is called Freedom Of Speech, a RIGHT we have in AMERICA. And fact is fact, truth is truth. If you can back up statements, you are NOT liable. Speech is free. But to state lies as fact, then that is wrong. I don't see many of us MTs stating lies or making up stories about the abuses we endure. This is just another MTSO scare tactic to keep those in the know from spreading the truth which in turns affects the corporate livelihood and the continued use of slave-labor MT. The TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE, and the MT or MTs will prevail if not pushed/scared/threatened by the big money taking advantage of the SKILL of the MT who actually earns the wages they so despately wish to exploit. Stick to your guns, knock them on their rumps!
TT vs MQ speech recognition
Have worked on both MQ's ASR and TransTech's escription VR. TT's blows MQ's right out of the water... no comparison, TT's is a zillion times better. Just my opinion.
Are you currently on the new speech editor?
Can you state without reservation at all that you are more productive on the new speech editor?
If not, quit blowing smoke up our skirts.
More OSi accounts going to speech recognition
Please, if someone is really in the know, please give info of what is going on. I'm starting to get worried now.
EXTEXT speech recognition
Anyone that does extext speech can you tell me a little bit about it. How many lines per hour are you able to get? Is it easy to hear?
