Totally deluded thinking! "bring transcription back in-house to gain control of the cost."

In Reply to: Beg your pardon. Not the minority. Hospitals are getting clued in. - Cost cutting is getting more
I just outsourced a hospital where the MTs across the board were making hourly wages that would shock you. My husband, who has a doctorate and makes well over $100 K a year, isn't making what some of them were! Hospitals are outsourcing because the MTs are making way too much money for what they do! Bring it back in house? Not unless they can make it fiscally feasible and pay someone do manage the deal.

Thinking about going back in-house
We are moving to a new town, and two of the hospitals there have job postings for transcriptionists. I'm trying to decide what to do. I know it would be easier to sit down and do the work without the distractions of home, but I would also lose the flexibility.
Has anyone else out there ever gone back to the hospital medical records department? and what was that like for you?
Some hospitals are actually bringing transcription back in house.
I have heard of more and more hospitals bringing transcription back in house and using independent contractors as well as in-house staff to get the job done. So far, it is working out well for most hospitals and, believe it or not, saving the hospital more money then sending it to a service.
Imagine that!!!
Hopefully, 90% of the health services and facilities will bring it back in house and soon!!!!
The main board is totally crazy and out of control.
I totally agree!
Thinking of in-house
You're right. I was thinking of hospitals or other in-house where I know some still make $8.75/hr in South but I have a sister who makes $19.50/hr in Calif., plus incentive.
Stay where you are. I'm with National and thinking about going in-house.

H. told me the work was going back in house for some of the doctors. nm

Back to thinking on this...
I'm on too many accounts, and woe is to me if I forget a little account specific rule. The QA peep will spank you hard. Yes, you pay for your computer. Platform's okay, but not generous. They are a company experiencing growing pains, I suspect.
I was loyal to one company for many years and rose through management. I changed horses and decided to do something on a related career track and do MT part time with with Amphion.
At first, it seemed great. They were good people, very responsive. As they've added staff and accounts, the good times have definitely gone away. I hope they get through their growing pains, consult with some people who really know how to run things smoothly, hire and fire appropriately (QA and middle management) and get on the ball. Then, they will be a company to stay with, hopefully. Unfortunately, I will probably be gone by then. Line counts are more generous, and QA is better managed elsewhere. (I find myself thinking who thought this QA method WORKS, anyway? Clearly no one who knows how to mentor MTs or run a QA department.
Yeah, I'm thinking I may have to go back to that.

Well she would actually be thinking about them by going back to school also (sm)
I am at a point where i need a divorce but guess what? No job security. So far my kids are staying in an unhappy home. I pray that never happens to her. Even if it doesn't she still needs job security to take care of her babies, married or not, and nursing would give her way more security than this.
Thinking back about what others were posting about VR
and how newbies could do, slow typists, etc. and now I hear you say you have to use your whole brain. If you are slow, no money in VR and a newbie could certainly not distinguish what a dictator wants, as in example 1 that changes their mind over and over again and you have to know what they means rather than what you think they might be talking about. So many want to put down people who do VR stating anyone can do. I would very much differ with that. It takes a lot to listen and be as 100% accurate as you can in editing each and every word that is said, much less getting the numbers straight.
You are so deluded it's pathetic,
that your job will be safe with cheaper labor around to do your job. You may be a bleeding heart that doesn't mind your fellow Americans losing their jobs and losing everything else which comes with it, but most of US MTs care about each other. What is so horrible about Indian/Pakistani MTs doing work in their OWN country by their OWN doctors?! You liberals astound me with your stupidity.

The Transcription House - Anyone work for them?
I have done a search on this forum for a company called The Transcription House and I cannot find anything on them. Does any work for them or know anything about them that they would care to share? Thanks in advance
There's a job posting for "Ultra low cost medical transcription service provider".
I'm going to jump on that one. Maybe they'll let me work for free.
I so totally relate! I go back to the days of mag-cards,
I took a Wang course at the local Jr. College because my boss said they were getting one. Suffered through a year of typical school garbage: a semester of 'The History of Word Processing'; a semester of classroom work for Wang information; then another semester of lab -- made all the more exasperating because the PC I'd been assigned to kept breaking down on my lab nights. Ah, yes. The good old days.
But at least back then, a person could rent an apartment and fill their refrigerator on what we were paid. Remember that? Nowadays it's nothing but a distant memory...............
The Transcription House out of Arizona, anyone heard of???
I would like any information on this company. I am googling MT companies and am coming up with ones I haven't heard much about. Anyone work for them? Good, bad, ugly??
Any recent info on Transcription House in AZ? Thanks. :) nm

thinking about selling my transcription service
and just wondering if any one has any opinion on interest in that. The person owning the company would make a minimum of $82,500 a year, running the business and doing some transcribing part time. It would be very easy to do some marketing and bring in some new accounts, which could easily push that 82500 to over 100000 a year. I have repetitive stress injury and my doctor has told me I need to find something else to do. I was thinking if there was an MT or a group of MT's (the company is incorporated so shares can be sold) that would like to get together, they can eliminate the middle man, earn retail price for their lines and establish job security, not to mention satisfaction. Price would be around $250,000 but like I said, a group of people could go together to cover that and with a little work in marketing, it could be paid off in three years. The business is about 10 years old and to the point where it is generating its own referrals. It could really go places if someone wanted to spend a little time marketing to a few new hospitals. Any one have any thoughts on this.
Why would they sue us? Nothing to gain.
What a waste of time that would be.
Does Transcription, Technology, & Support send work to India? Thinking of applying if not.
Does anybody know.
Monetary gain!
That sums it up.
Yep, those unable to gain employment elsewhere CAN
Did you learn a new word today (musn't)? I am so proud!
Teresa Vanjipuda gain...while we at it
The way she be postin jobs I think ther may be a futire for me with them. I go with the seying neber gib up. Wish me louck. When the goin gits rugh, I git goin. So fellow MTs, I think I reilly do hab a futire in this profezion. Do anyone no if Missy Clay have spellkicker?
If QA types they have nothing to gain by cherrypicking
This is true for any company. I used to type as well as do QA. I never skipped -bad- jobs because they would end up in QA anyway because the other MTs couldn't do them. Believe me, QA does not love a bunch of reports in QA because it clogs up the system. So I did them no matter how hard they were. I have never worked for Transtech but speaking from experience I can't imagine why a QA at any company would cherrypick jobs only to be stuck with them later in QA.
Or the gain of their friends and suckups. They don't
buddies do. Or else they could care less and let people pick and choose as they please so what's the difference. Some get the cream while the others get the crap.

If your facts are true, make them public. You've nothing to lose and everything to gain.
How can you be putting your head on the chopping block when you are anonymous here?
Details have not been given in your posts. Please show us ALL the details.
Why would you be putting your head on the block by pointing out supposed anomalies in the raise structure?
Any recruiter can give out that information because it's the same for everyone. Any MLS can go to the website and see it. I have it here in front of me. I would like to see you defend your statements, because I'm not seeing the proof here.
Why would you be putting your head on the block regarding incentives?
Any recruiter can give out that information, if it exists. That information also can be seen in the job boards and on the website, as it's public knowledge. I sure don't see any out there, nor have I for months.
Why would you be putting your head on the block regarding enticements?
You say they are readily viewed on job boards, but yet you can't give details. Any recruiter can give that information, too, as they post the ads on the boards. They can also be seen on the website. However, looking back over a lot of weeks of posts on various boards, I don't see one "enticement," so we're going to need YOU to point them out to us.
If the enticement is the pay structure, then you're benefitting the same as everyone else. If the enticement is the ads, well, you get the same opportunity for shift differentials, the same CMT pay, the same benefits, the same production incentives, don't you? What don't you get that you deserve?
Also in regard to enticements, I've got to ask for clarification on a statement you made:
"...look at past and future ads on MT Jobs, etc."
Do you have details on what the company is offering in the future? If so, let us all in on it so people who don't work at Transcend know what to wait for.
Finally, no one should need to email you, because all of YOUR information should be made public IF IT EXISTS, and you shouldn't fear making it public, IF IT'S TRUE. Having people email simply allows you to privately promote your version without having to publically defend the truth of of your claims.
If you can't back up your claims, then please concentrate on making the best out of your own situation, okay? It's not right to make statements that can't be supported with facts. It doesn't help the company and it doesn't help you. If you're a loyal employee you should be trying to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem. Maybe you could offer your assistance on the quality council.
Did anyone get a call back regarding the job with CLK transcription? nm

I want the old days of transcription back!
Thanks for the rely.
In my 30 years of transcription, 28 of them I have loved,I was proud to be an MT even with the addition of ASR -- I can't say I really like it, but you know you grow and learn with the times and sometimes its for the better. Sorry to say, though, I am sad to see so many unhappy MTs now. Our jobs are now based on line counts and perfections of comas, etc, and not necessarily the integrity of the report that you will be paid for, or for that matter the difficulty of the doctor.
I always felt that transcription could see me into my golden years, and my knowledge that I have required through those years would better any company I might work for. I am sad to say that transcription is now just money, like the rest of big business and the integrity of MTs is at stake. I am so sad for my career which I thought I never would be. I don't want to leave this field but I have been nitpicked to death, moved to practically every region and hospital in the US (lost count after 100) and cheated out of a decent wage long enough. The last two years I have put up with hoping it would get better and it hasn't. Looking at other companies and they seem to all be the same, greed and money is what motivates then and nothing trickles down to the MT. These big companies, like MQ, have not yet realized the terrible mistake they have made and when they do all the good, old loyal ones will be gone. They have forgotten who makes the revenue for their company. It is the MT. If we are not typing, there would be no QAing, no Leader, no nothing.
Sorry, to go off but my last straw has been broken.
Has anyone heard back from All American Transcription

Time for Transcriptionists to Take Back Transcription
It is my personal opinion, that we as trasncriptionists are an elite bunch. We have wroked hard, we work hard, our work is technically and physically and mentally challenging. I have a problem with others capitalizing on our skills, knowledge, training and expertise. Not only that, hospitals are closting transcription departments one by one and outsourcing. I am protesting outsourcing. Why give our money to services when we can work directly for the hosiptal under an intentive program and keep our benefits and earn more than the service can earn, and put the money back into our pockets instead of theirs. We are people, not machines, not a commodity, we should not be for sale.
Want to go back to acute care transcription
I used to be an acute care Transcriptionist for many many years and then switched over to clinic work because of a great opportunity. Now as I apply to companies looking for acute work I am not hearing back from them. I don't think I flunked any of the tests and I carefully proofed my resume. I am thinking it is because I have not been doing acute care work for over 4 years and so now I disqualify for an acute care position.
Any advice on getting my foot back in the door? I feel that if I transcribe clinic work for much longer I will no longer be considered for an acute care position. I actually like to do op notes so this bothers me greatly.
Do you think I should contact the company I applied to and ask them specifically why they did not get back to me or just move on? There is something I need to work on in order to be considered for a position and I am not exactly sure what that something is. Thanks for any assistance.
At first I was thinking that you were being unrealistic, not thinking about taxes, benefits, etc. bu
surprised to find that you are not asking the moon. Let me clarify a few things: Rates charged are not as high as 0.25 per line, but no one that has U.S. employees goes as low as 0.115 or they would not be able to pay their bills. A more realistic range is 0.125-0.165, and that top end is hard to find, most falling at 0.14-0.15 per line.
The rates of pay you propose are very reasonable IF the following is true: These are seasoned MTs who do not need a lot of hand-holding, QA or blanks filled in, unless a very difficult/impossible doctor.
How about a scale based on experience and accuracy of 0.09 - 0.105 per line (acute care), and $1.15-$1.30 per report (radiology)?
The VR one is tough as everyone, MTs and MTSOs and facilities are still feeling their way on this. As an MTSO who was an MT, I feel that VR editing is as difficult to do as regular transcription. I don't think that it should be substantially less pay or charged less as the end product is still the same.
Funny thing here? My company already follows that scale. We should work together, not at odds, to reinforce this industry and bring it back to where it should be, right here in the U.S.A. with a decent paycheck.
AAmT (All American Medical Transcription) Okay. the ad is back with a different person. Is this one
Hopefully, they have fired the bad example of a recruiter that was on here and this one is legit. Please advise.
Yes, it's totally word based, but it's also totally slow.
I haven't had a very good experience using dictaphone EXText. I wouldn't recommend anyone work on this platform. I don't know how anyone can say this is a very productive platform in any way whatsoever. Actually, it is the worst I've ever worked on. I like Bayscribe, DocQscribe, and many others over this setup.
Control I
I agree with you regarding ulterior motive. The simple answer is to DEMAND to know up front when working with Ex-Text whether Ctrl I will be used and if not, WHY NOT. If no answer to this or if given some vague answer, DON'T work for them.
Control I
Not being able to use Control I sounds suspicious to me. Dictaphone can set up any line count in Control I. One woman in Florida is paid and charges by every 37 characters and dictaphone has that set up. So anyone stopping you from using Control I has their own motives.
They have control over it
.
Of course they have control, you don't think they are going to gyp themselves do you.
nm
To the OP, this is just a classic example of KS PR control
My facts cannot be wrong, as this is what happened specifically to me. I do not have to stretch the truth whatsoever. The true version is colorful enough. Imagine being hired and thinking you are going to have an unlimited amount of work, quitting your old job, only to find out a week later that not only you, but the other girls on the same account no longer have any work. Sorry, the deal fell through. Certainly not MY fault, but KS's. The thing turned out to be that the account was just an overflow account. Go figure.
As far as the bounced check goes, I don't know what "one of the 8 means", but my checked bounced and I received NO letter from KS's bank. As a matter of fact, I had to email again and again and, yes, again the office to get my money and fees paid. It took quite a while. I have the paperwork right here in my desk. I have proof.
To the KS MT who says I need to get my facts straight, I believe this is once again Lee pretending to be an MT or one of her management team trying to deflect the truth. It is the usual way of KS.
If you do take a job with them, I wish you good luck and I sincerely hope that you do not have the same problems as many of us have had.
