I have had it with Spheris. So, I am now looking for another company. With the lack of benefits and reduction in pay I can no longer work there. I will be looking for something better. At this point, I do not know how much more of this I can take.

You have my sympathy. Just make sure you have something else lined up before you quit. I worked Spheris and another company at the same time just to make sure I was not jumping into the fire. We are in recession right now, which makes it an employer's market whether we like it or not. The way MTs are being treated is upsetting to everyone.

In response to Dana, my supervisor doesn't answer ANY e-mail I send her so not sure how flexibility would work in that regard. My accounts with SR are absolutely awful; make changes pretty much throughout the entire report. It is nice to hear, though, that someone actually does well with this company. I have tried to find positives and I have yet to find one thing I can say I like about this company. It is a job, though, until I can find better....

Getting too old to do a fully 60 hours per week and was hoping to find employee status rather than IC to fit the bill here for less than 20 PT hours a week.

I just quit Medquist, hired by Etrans and quit them after one afternoon during the last two weeks!sm
Medquist made me buy a new computer to go to the "Docuscribe" system that was so much better than cottage. When I got there I took a real big pay cut to the tune of probably 30 to 40%. I was getting paid gross lines doing Cedars-Sinai operative reports. I asked for more per line and my supervisor just laughed and said you think were going to pay you $0.12 a line to just do operative reports! I said I quit. I should have said F you and your mamma too:( I had been there all together 7 years through buyouts. I am just sick of it all. I'm going to go sew my daughter a cute little Halloween outfit right now.

I left MQ for OS in August
Couldn't be happier! I started out at a higher rate than I was making at MQ after 3 years. I have 1 account and 1 secondary. You can actually contact QA if you have a question. If I have a question for my supervisor, I hear back from her in less than hour. Sometimes in a matter of minutes. I like my job again, and even DH commented earlier this fall about the change in my attitude.
I got a phone call last week from MQ asking if I was interested in coming back. Uh, noooo. And no I don't want to hear about all the wonderful changes you made.
I am waiting until 1 August
and if it is still this low, I am asking for another account.
I started with Keystrokes at the end of August (sm)
and I like it...very nice people to work for and very helpful..

Posts from August said editing was 1.5-2 cpl and there were comments that pay wasn't on time. I've never heard any positives about this MTSO, so if I were you, I'd keep looking.

August 2008 we were sold to CBAY after the announcement in May.
Check it out. As for me, I'm still here, still loving it, doing great, always get my account, making 10 cpl. I'll stay until I get fired.
The formal QA department is new only started last August. Before that, it was up to the lead MT'
to do QA. That obviously did not work for them and they started a QA department.
Ortho has only done formal QA reviews.
Radiology does QA reviews but internally and only comes to the MT's if there is a problem, otherwise tells them they are doing well.
CEO hasn't left yet, she's leaving in August. Co's are bought and sold all the time and I
think this is that big a deal.
After 8 years in the business, I start buying presents in August, cause I know the slow period SM
is coming around the holidays. :-)
Not to say we dont all starve and Im not totally stressed out come December, but at least Ive got my gifts :-)

In order of effect real change, we must at least sound like we know what we are talking about. Writing our congressman in support of a two year old bill that no longer exists or writing out congressman about outsourcing and reference bills that have nothing to do with outsourcing, makes us all look like uninformed weiners!
You will not be able to copy those from a MQ
computer. Believe me, I tried EVERYTHING! My husband is a computer whiz and said they have some kind of lock on their system that you cannot copy or transfer to another computer, sorry, but like me, you'll just have to redo your expander, I know it's crap, but you'll make yourself crazy trying to copy it, cause it just won't happen.

I have a few of my own standards in MS Word that I will copy and paste into Meditech, but I find the tabs do not translate over to Meditech. Do you have this problem as well? It is aggravating because I have to fix these when I go back to the Meditech screen

from the onset to NEVER EVER copy and paste. If you are doing this you should stop it soon before they figure it out and you get in trouble.

I'd like to see a copy of a letter sent to clients ...
The letter would explain to the client/doctors that MTs work from homes all over the country and we may not know the names of streets, towns, landmarks in their communities. The letter would explain how docs and MTs could both save time if the doc would move his/her lips when speaking, and would speak at a reasonable volume and pace -- not super-fast, and not stop and go while shuffling papers and talking on cell phones. The letter would describe (in a sweet, informative way, of course) that MTs are real human beings and that dictation is not transcribed by magical machines on the other end of the phone line. And then, I'd like to hear all the docs say, Thank you at the end of their dictations and say, If there's anything that I can do to improve my dictation technique, please let me know, and actually mean it!

If I had to copy & paste my IM to an email...
...because I needed a conversation documented, I would do it. I would find a way. Even if I had to get a disposable camera and take a couple of darn pictures of the computer with the IM on it. LOL! 
By the way, what happens if you doin't respond to the IM? Are you an employee with the co? No co. would make me do IM, but that's me. What is the co. so concerned about that they don't want something documented in email???
