Time for Transcriptionists to Take Back Transcription

It is my personal opinion, that we as trasncriptionists are an elite bunch. We have wroked hard, we work hard, our work is technically and physically and mentally challenging. I have a problem with others capitalizing on our skills, knowledge, training and expertise. Not only that, hospitals are closting transcription departments one by one and outsourcing. I am protesting outsourcing. Why give our money to services when we can work directly for the hosiptal under an intentive program and keep our benefits and earn more than the service can earn, and put the money back into our pockets instead of theirs. We are people, not machines, not a commodity, we should not be for sale.

Well I work on an account that probably about 4 part time transcriptionists on it ...sm
There is hardly ever enough work. Never get a full day because the account is overstaffed. There are 2 doctors on this account also. It might not be as bad with you because you only have you and 2 part timers. But on this account there is a handful of MTs. Ridiculous!
Actually, they offered for me to come back any time.
They hated to lose a good MT.
You should have gotten your $250 back at time of resignation. nm

And this time the company bit back, right?
I saw these posts and they were out of line. It was like the OP was trying to pick a fight with them. I hear the OP not saying anything else now, probably for the best. I do not blame the company. There were scads of people on here that seemed to love to join in and bash them. What goes around....
MQ could add back the "part-time" status, and
they could provide insurance to a part-time employee -- maybe at a higher deduction from paycheck than a full-time employee, but it can be done -- if MQ will do it. They could give part-time employees other benefits, also, if they would do so.
One more time for the cheap seats in the back..sm
Upson vs. Sexton - I might as well just put it out there, since you won't let it drop. Same first name.
I never said the man was a criminal. Those words didn't come out of my mouth and NEVER would, nor would I even say the man in the original post is a criminal. Paying three months late and not having the workload promised doesn't constitute calling someone a criminal in my book. Shady business practices, maybe, but never would I go so far as to call someone a criminal, ever, based solely on a story someone posted on an online MB whom I have never met, especially not without hearing the other person's side of the story!!
YOU are the one who called the first guy a criminal and claimed he stole money. Someone mentioned theft of services, not that he stole money, just to be clear - and we don't know there was even a crime committed here, so perhaps you should worry a little more about what comes out of your own mouth. There's no proof a crime even took place here, only the word of others - one who said she was paid 3 mos late and one whose friend has not been paid in 4 mos. Yes, that is awful to not be paid, but unless they just flat out refuse to pay, I'm not sure anyone should go so far as to say it's a crime. (And just to play devil's advcoate, I wonder how many complaining about being paid late were ever late on any of their own bills? Just a thought.)
To those who do feel there has been a crime committed against them, get a lawyer, find out your rights, and file a suit against the person. You can bet those companies would do the same to any client who didn't pay them.
Thanks to the poster who stood up for me. It truly was just an honest error. My personal apologies to Brent Upson, who is NOT Brent Sexton. I do not owe anyone but him an apology.
Takes a lot of time to hear back
I was job hunting in July and had the same experience, no responses. It took weeks to start hearing back, then the responses started coming in. I even got some responses 2 or 3 months after applying. It just seems to take a long time right now. You have to be very patient.
Did anyone get a call back regarding the job with CLK transcription? nm

I want the old days of transcription back!
Thanks for the rely.
In my 30 years of transcription, 28 of them I have loved,I was proud to be an MT even with the addition of ASR -- I can't say I really like it, but you know you grow and learn with the times and sometimes its for the better. Sorry to say, though, I am sad to see so many unhappy MTs now. Our jobs are now based on line counts and perfections of comas, etc, and not necessarily the integrity of the report that you will be paid for, or for that matter the difficulty of the doctor.
I always felt that transcription could see me into my golden years, and my knowledge that I have required through those years would better any company I might work for. I am sad to say that transcription is now just money, like the rest of big business and the integrity of MTs is at stake. I am so sad for my career which I thought I never would be. I don't want to leave this field but I have been nitpicked to death, moved to practically every region and hospital in the US (lost count after 100) and cheated out of a decent wage long enough. The last two years I have put up with hoping it would get better and it hasn't. Looking at other companies and they seem to all be the same, greed and money is what motivates then and nothing trickles down to the MT. These big companies, like MQ, have not yet realized the terrible mistake they have made and when they do all the good, old loyal ones will be gone. They have forgotten who makes the revenue for their company. It is the MT. If we are not typing, there would be no QAing, no Leader, no nothing.
Sorry, to go off but my last straw has been broken.
Charts in Time (Florida?) does. Have an ad up back in the listings. nm

I'm back in college part-time after 24+ years
I figured this is the only to get my foot to the right job. My daughter will be 11 soon and by the time I finish my school that I did not finish after 24+ years, I could definitely be making 2 or 3 times more money than 7 cents per line. I can work at my local Starbucks part-time making $10.00 an hour with excellent benefits!!!
Less than a month. You will get it back, just takes some time coming

Has anyone heard back from All American Transcription

Want to go back to acute care transcription
I used to be an acute care Transcriptionist for many many years and then switched over to clinic work because of a great opportunity. Now as I apply to companies looking for acute work I am not hearing back from them. I don't think I flunked any of the tests and I carefully proofed my resume. I am thinking it is because I have not been doing acute care work for over 4 years and so now I disqualify for an acute care position.
Any advice on getting my foot back in the door? I feel that if I transcribe clinic work for much longer I will no longer be considered for an acute care position. I actually like to do op notes so this bothers me greatly.
Do you think I should contact the company I applied to and ask them specifically why they did not get back to me or just move on? There is something I need to work on in order to be considered for a position and I am not exactly sure what that something is. Thanks for any assistance.
Even so, it is very unprofessional and rude to not reply back when someone took the time to test!!
i'd like to know too. i did send an email back before wasting more of my time to see if the work
;
My primary is even busier than usual and my back-up has been looking for extra help. Maybe time for

Some hospitals are actually bringing transcription back in house.
I have heard of more and more hospitals bringing transcription back in house and using independent contractors as well as in-house staff to get the job done. So far, it is working out well for most hospitals and, believe it or not, saving the hospital more money then sending it to a service.
Imagine that!!!
Hopefully, 90% of the health services and facilities will bring it back in house and soon!!!!
AAmT (All American Medical Transcription) Okay. the ad is back with a different person. Is this one
Hopefully, they have fired the bad example of a recruiter that was on here and this one is legit. Please advise.
Totally deluded thinking! "bring transcription back in-house to gain control of the cost."
I just outsourced a hospital where the MTs across the board were making hourly wages that would shock you. My husband, who has a doctorate and makes well over $100 K a year, isn't making what some of them were! Hospitals are outsourcing because the MTs are making way too much money for what they do! Bring it back in house? Not unless they can make it fiscally feasible and pay someone do manage the deal.
Anyone know anything about On-Time Transcription?
They contacted me today from an old resume on a job board. They gave no information as to line rate, platform, equipment, etc. I did a Google search and their website is not very professional and provides no information at all. I've done an MT Stars search and after going through several pages don't find anything, though I'm sure I've seen at least a post of someone asking about them in the last few months.
I'm not really looking for a position, though I'm always open if a better situation came along. I received their e-mail too late to contact them back today to ask them these questions myself.
Transcription time
Hi Guys! I know this question has been asked before but I can't seem to find the info. Can someone again please tell me approximately how long it takes to transcribe an hours worth of dictation assuming the dictation is H&Ps, consults, etc.. for family medicine, OB/GYN & ortho. Thanks for any info you can provide. I am slowly getting back into the business but don't want to take on too much.
Transcription Time
Thanks guys! That helps tremendously. Lucky for me, no ESLs.
On-Time Transcription
Anyone working there or have worked there? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Any and all info is greatly appreciated!!!!!
transcription time
I agree - depending upon the Transcriptionist speed I find that an average audio file with good dictation audio quality can take somewhere between 2-1/4 and 3 times the size of the audio file to transcribe - thus often a 45-minute audio file can take between 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2-1/4 hours to transcribe. Of course, though, more difficult specialties, ESL dictators and bad audio recordings can account for longer production times...
Anyone know anything about On-Time Transcription?
I think they use Emdat platform but not sure. Wondered if anyone knew much about them, i.e., nice to work for, plenty of work, decent accounts?
Can anyone tell me anything about On-Time Transcription?
I've searched the archives and cannot find a thing. I know they use Emdat/Inscribe. Anyone know about pay rates, management, etc.?
Thanks!
That is Turnaround Time Transcription - sorry! nm

TRS - Part-time transcription?
Hey, does TRS hire part-time transcriptionists? Someone told me they had a hard time making lines with TRS...anyone have any experience with them?
part time transcription
I did check there - thanks
Turnaround Time Transcription? sm
Does anyone have any information about this company? TIA
Every time Davis Transcription has
been asked about on this board over the last 2 years, there are always warnings about working for her. All you have to do is Google Davis Transcription if you don't want to search backwards. Archived information is old. I am not sure why it takes years to be archived but hey, this is a free site.
Anyway, if you want to know what has been said in the last year or two, do a search going back through the pages. Some of the information does come up on a google search though. I keep wondering, since the information is so easy to find, why people still keep taking jobs with Davis. Guess they don't believe those who have already been burned.
Turn-Around-Time Transcription anyone?
This is a very small company based in Glendale, CA with 1 or 2 hospitals.
why do so many MQ transcriptionists
on the boards seem to be having such a hard time with keeping up their line counts? I am getting ready to send them my paperwork today and I'm getting really nervous. Right now I average anywhere from 1400 lines to 1700 lines, however, I'd like to get that up to 2000 per day....what's the deal with MQ????
MQ Transcriptionists
To the Administrator:
Since MQrs are practically occupying the whole main board, and it seems this company has the most transcriptionists in the MT business, may I suggest that an MQrs Board be set up for MQ so as not to waste the time of MTs who would like to be informed of other matters on said board.
We, who are not MQrs would like to know more of other MTs' problems with other companies and not only with MQ.
Thanks,
jgl
Some of these transcriptionists are
so ignorant. They don't read anything other than MT stars. They constantly bitch and moan about MT companies that offshore but they're typing on a computer that was made by someone in a foreign country...they have a ragedy imported vehicle sitting in the driveway......they have a Japanese vacuum cleaner, etc... Yet you come to this board and state how dirty and poor these people are.
Intelligence says a whole lot about a person no matter what part of the globe they live in. All of the offshore MT's who work for the company I QA for are college educated (4 year degrees). They may be poor but they are doing everyting they can to make a better life for themselves. They are not lazy. They don't call in sick every other Friday. They are dependable. They are loyal to their employer. They would NEVER come to MTstars or any other forum and berate and belittle their employer like many of you do. Most of you people don't know what the word loyalty means.
Offshoring is nothing new. It has been done for years and will continue to be done. Nearly everytime you purchase an electronic item you are supporting offshoring. You're just too stupid to realize it. You are no different than the MTSO's who offshore. The MTSO's who offshore are looking for the same thing you are when you buy an import-QUALITY.
Perhaps they have transcriptionists that they-sm
know frequent this site and they don't want those transcriptionists to know they are hiring editors or any other personnel. just a thought.
Is it just me, or does 100 transcriptionists
seem like way too many for 1000 beds? Would hate to see people sitting without work...
No, you are NOT transcriptionists....if you were...
you would take more time to learn the ENGLISH LANGUAGE and how to use it *correctly*. Studying in a large institution doesn't mean squat if you put out poor work for medical records. It scares the bejeezus out of me to think that you might be transcribing a record of mine! I've seen some of the stuff that comes out of your country - not sure which institution taught the *stuff* I've seen but have serious doubts about it being MIT! So all in all, you've lowered the standards of the medical records field, you've brought down our pay, and you've put fear in Americans about the security of our personal information. Don't ask us to feel sorry for you, and consideration won't be in the bag, either. Generosity? I guess you've already achieved that by undercutting our field in ribbons. We're hoping for somebody to stop this mess, and I'm working feverishly by bugging my elected representatives to achieve just that.
No more transcriptionists
If there are not enough transcriptionists, perhaps they are still at Precyse Solutions stuck on 100% QA.
Turnaround Time Transcription, Inc., any info???
nm
any info on Charts in Time or US Transcription?....
I cannot find information on either of these companies and was wondering how they were to work for. Thanks.
any steno transcriptionists here?
I use a steno machine to transcribe with and was wondering if any of you do too.
I'm getting ready to start with Medquist and wondering if there are any tips for me.
thanks
Not all managers were transcriptionists.
I know of one manager who used to be in marketing. She is still there now. She is and/or was not very well liked because she was not a transcriptionist. There is no teamwork. I tried teamwork, until the manager put an end to it. They could care less if you get a lunch break as long as the work is done. You only know about your manager and co-workers. You would know nothing about other account managers and their employees. They changed their name because TSI has a bad reputation. They were losing accounts. They laid off people. They can't afford incentives. The insurance premiums are insane.
happy transcriptionists!
It's really sad that someone who is obviously a disgruntled EX-employee would bad mouth a company that treats it's transcriptionists so fairly and with respect. There are 34 girls that would be more than happy to say how much they love their jobs. Being the relatively small, but incredibly busy, group that we are, we are honestly one big happy family and I plan to make sure that it stays that way!
Why don't ya try giving the transcriptionists
a limited number of doctors to learn in the areas they were hired for? NOOOO....gotta know 15 doctors. Then you folks want us to fill in on an emergency in a field never tried before by the transcriptionist...the Transcriptionist tells you she's never done that but you say....ahhh...you won't have any trouble...please??? She says yes and tortures along trying to figure it out for pennies on the dollar. Two days later she is still struggling along, has told you several times, but you say you're doing great...Two days later you send her an e-mail saying that if her work doesn't improve you'll have to dock her pay. Stick it man.
Lets see....doctors specialize but we who make peanuts have to be able to transcribe ALL specialties or are punished. Wake up.
travelling transcriptionists
I am new to this site, and not sure this is the proper place, but does anyone know anything about travelling transcriptionists? Worth it? Are there many companies that hire travelling transcriptionists. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
WebmedX Transcriptionists
Can anyone give me any information about WedMedX. Is this a good company?
I hear they pretty much watch your every move, when you are punching in, when your away, when you punch out, etc. Is this true? Do they have a lot of ESL? Any info would be helpful. Thanks.
Hiring new transcriptionists?
I have a friend who completed a transcription course through a 4 year college and wants to find a company that will allow her to work at home. I can mentor her having 20+ years experience in the field. Does anyone know a company that will hire new grads and allow them to get some experience that way? I have told her about doctors' offices, but we're very rural here and there are not too many doctors around. Any help would be appreciated. I have been searching the job board here and MTJobs also, as has she, but we can't find anything. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!
documed transcriptionists
HI. Are there any Documed transcriptionists out there? I am a new employee and while everything is going fine, there are some questions I have that I am not getting any answers to. TIA!
Sorry - but BS!!! - no shortage of transcriptionists!
There is in fact not a shortage of transcriptionists in the United States. I don't give a hoot what the companies say. There are very qualified and willing transcriptionists trying to find work right now and cannot, while the work is being offshored.
The problem is that they can pay less to the transcriptionists when they are offshoring, not because they cannot find transcrriptionists!
