This whole IC Transcend thing is totally confusing to me!! sm

I read this board pretty regularly and I recall a few days ago somebody saying how they got an email threatening termination because they were not making the PT status. When the company I was with was bought by Transcend somebody asked about IC and they said they only did PT and FT, no IC. Since they bought MDI there is all this talk about them now offering IC. I am just questioning this because it seems to me they might expect someone who is an IC to actually work PT status, of course with no PTO earned or anything else. Again, this all just does not make sense to me especially if what a read a few days ago is true and somebody got an email threatening termination unless they made enough to be PT status. I guess I am just wondering if anybody else has gotten an email stating that they needed to make PT status or might be terminated??

That is a totally unscrupulous thing to do!
It's not your fault there isn't much work. If they've over-hired, it's their problem. You've lived up to your end of the bargain by doing the work when it's there, and by being there to do the work even when it's not. NO WAY should you have to pay higher insurance premiums!
And since it's already happened, the minute there IS work, I'd be on the phone PRONTO to ask them to lower my premiums back to the original level again.
I totally disagree, I love Transcend... there are a lot of companies out there..
instead of complaining, why don't you find another. Life is way too short, as someone said.
Transcend does the same thing.
Reports were disappearing left and right on one of T's largest accounts while they were transferring the account over to VR without our knowledge. I, like you, heard it from a supe so I quickly got out after hearing about the really bad sound quality, as well as a new cherry-picking queue.
I was online one day constantly for eight hours and was able to grab two files while this was going on, and like you say, the files I got were more than likely the junk the VR turned down.
One thing is for sure... Transcend
Either one of two things: They have the work and more work coming on line, or they are losing MTs right and left. I don't know. Can't figure it out. Keeps someone busy recruiting, for sure. I don't see any more about that Albuquerque hospital now.
TRANSCEND DOING THE SAME THING!
thing to employees
They must be confusing themselves with someone..
else..they are the ones that posted this ad on the job board:
Keystrokes has an opening for a radiology MT.
We supply the tower and the footpedal. You supply the monitor and the keyboard and the high speed.
This is a lovely account, clear and concise dictators, fast, but good. Platform is MANTIS, experience preferred, but not required on this platform.
Pay is by the report.
Yes, it is confusing ... sm
MDI-FL is different. They are also a great place to work, and their website is medicaldictation.com. You might want to look at them, also. The two are not affiliated in any way, only their initials are the same!
Thanks, it seemed a little confusing. nm
It is confusing (sm)
I think we can look to other industries as a possible example.
Imagine you need someone to paint 2 rooms in your house. You speak with a man on Monday and let him know that you need your living room and kitchen painted by Friday 8 p.m., as you have company coming from out of town. You both agree and create a contract that states his pay ($300), 2 rooms need painting, and the deadline to complete the project. The end result: Two rooms painted by Friday 8 p.m. for $300. The homeowner has a right to specify the end result, but is not managing his hours. If the homeowner had no control, the painter could finish whenever he wanted. This would make no sense. So, the homeowner would have someone come to paint with no idea when it would be finished or how many rooms would be painted? In MT, the end result could be total lines, number of tapes, etc.
confusing...
It is really confusing, the whole thing, which is why I left. Everyone is sad, myself included, that the Indian team leads are being let go as well. They were great to work with and I do know for a fact that they are being replaced with American team leads. It is confusing that they let the American QA team go in the first place, and from they way it sounds was without warning. They now have a forum board on Yahoo groups for the MTs to voice concerns and to stay informed. That was a good move on their part. If things get better I would like to go back part time. I guess time will tell the outcome. Focus was my first company and I wish them the very best.
It is confusing, and while not for the . . .
most part going to change the meaning, I do find it very confusing. I do use Stedman's and Dorland's as the most reliable sources on these issues..
All so confusing!!!
Wow.
I was referring to the one in FL. Sorry if confusing....NM

WMX call very confusing
She just went round and round about how much more money we as MTs are making since we are so much more productive with the ISR, yet the example she gave had the MT making $100 less! I just don't get it. So disillusioned. Their coldness and statistics make me ill.
Yes, it's totally word based, but it's also totally slow.
I haven't had a very good experience using dictaphone EXText. I wouldn't recommend anyone work on this platform. I don't know how anyone can say this is a very productive platform in any way whatsoever. Actually, it is the worst I've ever worked on. I like Bayscribe, DocQscribe, and many others over this setup.
I think perhaps you're confusing them with another company?
They pay extremely well - higher than any other company I've been able to find.
Sten-Tel....this is getting confusing....please read
Yes, the previous poster below is right, I am referring to the job ad that they had for cardiology and pathology, not the platform or the franchise. It's the company out of Springfield, MA that I am talking about. I appreciate some of the feedback I got so far. It seems that those who are working for them out of MA are happy with their jobs. I was given an opportunity to work for them as an editor/transcriptionist and all I wanted to know is if they were a decent company to work for. So, if there are anymore Sten-Tellers out there, I would love to hear from you. Thanks.
Your moniker is Overseas MT, which is very confusing.
Your post was fraught with errors. You didn't even get the gender of the owner right.
I realize this is a message board, people write quickly and are bound to make typos. Many of your errors simply weren't typos, though.
If I were an MTSO reading your post, I don't think I'd invite you to work for me. Sorry.
I think they use different programs, very confusing and disorganized
nm
The archive searches here are confusing.
But when I put 'davis' in the second search box down (not the top one, with Google, etc.), just to the right of the ''Post a new message'' button, I got plenty of results.
I think the confusing issue here is the term
Maybe access is a better word. For instance, I have access to certain accounts for my online company. As an IC for them, I have no quota to meet, I draw from the pool of dictators. Now, I have agreed to take on certain dictators that no one else seemed to want to do. But, if something comes up in my workday, as an IC, I just e-mail the company and they find someone else. It's that simple and it works great. Other than that, I draw from the pool of dictators that I have access to for that MTSO.
Assigned means no help from any other MTs; it's all you and when a company assigns you work they should actually be paying you as an employee not an IC. An IC works piece work meaning each and every sound file is a job or a service you have provided to that company. You are an MT that provides your skills and they pay you for that service.
The only thing I've found that's difficult in this biz is naming your price with the online MTSOs as an IC. They seem to name the wage; so that part is tough.
If it is an ongoing relationship, it's also important that you think of this client and/or MTSO on a file by file basis. One voice file is a job and so on. There are other MTs in place at the company I work for that will step in and take work, so the downside is that I have to be on my toes if I want more than just what I have agreed to do on a regular basis unless something comes up.
As an IC, I have my own personal clients as well. But, I consider the online MTSO one of my clients, so I service them all in the same fashion.
In actuality, my own clients are the money makers, and the online MTSO is filler and works very well for me since there are no set hours, no set line quota, and I can not work at all on any particular day. As a courtesy, I let them know if I'm taking time off, but I really don't have to do that if I don't want to, but I like to because I know that TAT is important. I respect them and they respect me.
I think you're confusing the deductible with the premium. sm
Family coverage is not $1000 a month in premiums.
TTS has a very low starting pay & a confusing bonus scale. nm
m
To make it confusing, there is also MedScript Services, Inc., and
s
Mediscribe of Indiana, NOT MedScribe, confusing, the first one has ....sm
hired me without testing, which seems great, but should I be worried? I mean, 18 years experience in all phases, but this was so FAST! Please, can someone tell me about this company, worked there, info would be so appreciated because the contract does not tell me anything that I do not know....recruiter is Tonya. TIA!
I guess what is confusing is why keep running new ads if you already have too many resumes
Obviously, they didn't find what they were looking for and are seeking to get more applicants. I have sent in several resumes to different companies recently and some I have not heard from at all and some did not response for another week or two, but in any case, they did not repost an ad every few days.
or they are growing. What a terrible blanket statement. This is so confusing now. sm
I hear good things about a company and the exact opposite from someone else. Then stay away from another, and a friend of my gets the position and has been there for 4 years. I missed out by listening to others on that one but listened on others about how good they were and now have had 8 jobs in 3-1/2 years. I AM NOT A JOB-HOBBER. I just want to work and be left alone except to get paid.
Could you be confusing "using the facilities own MTs" with "sending to India" mayhaps?
x
Anyone have any recent info on Sten-Tel out of Massachusetts? Old posts were rather confusing sm
as to whether the company was Indian or not. There is an ad up on another board for editors. Are they offshore? TIA.
i work 3 part-time jobs now. it can be confusing if you are learning both at the same time, but sm
other than that not a problem for me. best to get one down before starting to other or you might become overwhelmed.
Transcend bought MDI, so if Transcend sends work offshore, so does MDI. nm
nm
We heard Transcend is buying Keystrokes next. I'm not working for Transcend. No Way !
nm
Debate is one thing, and posting is one thing,
but this is getting absurd. I think it must be the same person, otherwise multiples who cannot stay on topic?? Why can't you STICK with the subject? The subject of my post was NOT what your cent per line rate was or is - I could care less- and not how much money you made last year, this year, or in your life, but how silly the comment was that your cents per line rate means NOTHING, that its up to you - some fluff like that. That is just so silly. Again, working for the same company, same account, is one going to make more money being paid more per line? OF course! This is so frustrating and really makes me so tired of reading this garbage let alone posting. Its like a nightmare. And also makes me completely believe that the original company must pay peanuts.
good thing it is a temporary thing sm
because people with your attitude don't stay in anything very long anyway. Nobody has to listen to that crap to keep their job.
You don't know me either. you can say old fart all you want (when did 53 get to be old fart....too funny) but at least I am a valuable employee who can get a decent job!
If MDI-FL is owned by Transcend and Transcend admittingly offshores, sm
then doesn't that make MDI a company that offshores? That's like saying that one branch of a company offshores but another does not, so they are excluded from the offshore label. If MDI-FL is part of Transcend and Transcend offshores, that means that they do.
RE: If MDI-FL is owned by Transcend and Transcend admittingly offshores, sm
Your hypothesis is incorrect. MDI is a wholly independent subsidary of Transcend, therefore, they were not a part of the experiment to offshore to evaluate cost/benefit ratio that Transcend only tried for 90 days (I believe the evaluation process is not still ongoing).
Well for one thing, it would not be a professional thing
to do for any MTSO to have a board to do this as part of being an MTSO involves the ability to identify and hold on to confidential information. Even if a person is a job hopper (which in this business rather than go against you can make you a stronger better MT if you can do just about anything thrown at you), if a person is looking for a job, a company needs to have the MT's permission to contact their current employer. Where one has worked or has not worked is something that is very unprofessional being discussed on a board by MTSOs.
Being a business owner of any kind comes with it possessing what it takes to maintain ethical practices.
Totally VR?
Do you have any idea when that is supposed to take place and the effect it will have on the staff? They are doing a lot of hiring recently, myself included!
totally aside
I'd like to add that irregardless is not a word.
Totally!
I had the exact same experience. After five months, I left. I guess to each is own.
That is so totally what I'd do too!
....go in and edit the crap out of the thing and provide a phone number to my attorney, the state district attorney, and the department of labor for their calling pleasure.
I think these bastids count on the fact that this is a female-dominated industry...an industry of what they believe are just mousy housewifes who won't say boo and will just take it. Think again mister man. We brought you into this world, we can take you out.
You are totally right!
Every day, people have circumstances that are way beyond their control, i.e. illness, unexpected car repairs, laid off from job, etc. Just because someone's credit isn't the best is no reason not to hire someone. The whole idea of employers checking credit just sickens me. There is no need for it. That is why we have references! Our credit reports are none of their business!
Not totally 100% out but very, very low. :(
xxx
Totally
wrong for them to keep this information if it is the information that your pay is based on. When they send a check they don't send some kind verification for what they paid you? This is wrong and could possibly be illegal depending on what kind of agreement you signed with them if you are an employee.
If an IC, then not illegal, but still unacceptable.
how is that TOTALLY IC?
1000 lines M-F?
Actually, you just did totally help :)
Thanks.
I will be documenting everything I send to QA from now on (I don't care right now if it does drop my production a bit).
I am also going to be trying to the blank and then go back thing you suggested. I sometimes will spend 20 minutes on each blank the first time I go through the report (half the time only to get the blank filled in later because the dictator repeats it).
Thanks for the help !!!
IC Job? That's totally different
You are getting screeeewd!
Not totally true.
If you can prove an increase in skill, like learning op reports, or getting your CMT, you can also be considered for a raise.
Talk to your manager!
I totally agree with you!
Great bonuses, benefits, flexibility, love my supervisor and co-workers and have great communication! I'm sorry for those that are having a bad experience. I work out of the Dallas office and I love it.
please check this out totally!!!!
I am a former employee of this company. This company does not pay on time, bounces payroll checks, and the owner, Deb Garrison, is very unprofessional. She will hollar on the telephone, refusing to answer questions about payroll at all. At this moment, I am still owed one final paycheck. This paycheck was due to be released on 7/20. Last week I was told it was be mailed this past Monday, 7/25. Deb refused to send FedEx; my cost and as she has done for all other checks in the past, and refused to send via priority mail. I contacted her today and was told the checks were mailed yesterday. I would advise serious consideration about this company. They reason they are hiring 20 MTs is because no one is getting paid and they are refusing to work. I can provide you with a listing of all the MTs who work for this company if you want to verify my story.
Totally crazy
I worked for the Toth's. The are unorganized, not professional, do not pay for the work on time, and basically rude. I know several people who have taken them to court, won, and still have not been paid monies owed to them!
