Any tips on handling recruiters who may not be honest?
I am just getting a weird feeling from a recruiter. The recruiter told me three different starting rates of pay and asked me to tell her what she quoted two days ago. I asked what percentage of MTs stay with them for a year. She avoided the question. The recruiter also could not explain the pay scale. Are recruiters required to be honest? I find it hard to believe that she was being dishonest. Maybe I am paranoid. Do they generally care about the company they work for, or their job is done once they hire the MT?
Are they factoring in a "special handling" charge?

Tips for Handling Offensive Posts -- SM
If you find a post offensive:
Read a post that offends you? Make sure you think about what is upsetting about it. Is it personally upsetting or is it against posting guidelines?
If it is just upsetting for you, my advice: Ignore it. Don't respond. If you respond, you are feeding that opinion and it will more than likely incur another post, etc.
If it is against posting guidelines, report it using the REPORT THIS MESSAGE button. Or, copy the URL and send to me in an email (cher@mtstars.com).
Remember, that just because you dislike a post does not warrant its removal. You must be responsible for what you read and post for yourself. If a certain poster gets under your skin, don't read his/her posts. Just ignore those posts. Don't allow yourself to be drawn into a tit-for-tat argument that ends up getting you into trouble along with others. Be responsible for yourself.

That is what I do. Either I have a firm SM
figure in mind (and it's what I believe my work is worth, years of exp., etc., my willingness to work weekends, whatever) and I ask for that figure OR I have even been known to ask for a little bit higher than what I will accept and they counter with something closer to what I asked for.
If you just accept what they offer, they will never offer more than 9 cpl and most of the time they will initially offer 8 cpl for someone who has great skills. I negotiate at the beginning because as we all know, no one EVER gets a raise in this business, they just tell you to type more. I figure I'll get what I need up front.
If they need you bad enough, they will usually end up meeting your needs as far as line rate goes, as long as you aren't asking for 13 cpl or something.
they have been very firm lately,
if you make a committment, you are expected to keep it. We had an email regarding those who repeatedly failed to meet their lines, and they were told they'd be changed to prn status at a much lower line rate.
FIRM SCHEDULE
Haven't gotten my packet yet. What does firm schedule mean???
I thought they were just a recruiting firm. nm

I'd like to respond to the comment about firm accounts - sm
There is NO SUCH THING as firm accounts for traveling transcription. These are hospitals that will need ON SITE short term staffing. This is not acquiring hospital accounts to work at home or to relocate transcriptionists. I can say that I have been to over 32 facilities in my seven years, and some of them on multiple occasions. I am on a current assignment that is my fourth time returning. I have had two transcriptionists travel for me already.
Please do not think that this is for work at home or firm accounts. As transcriptionists working for national services, I'm sure most of you know that some hospital accounts do not last forever, and there are no firm accounts with those as well.
Thanks
Mary Anne
Do the MQ firm scheduled start immediately or in January? nm

why should you feel bad? I am a firm believer in you gotta do what you can to survive
and I am also considering a job with them. I need the money and the benefits and they have offered me more than any place else, so far.
Maybe Keystrokes doesn't want to be an average firm. I am happy there and find sm
that their minimums are fair. QA standards are very high, which makes me proud to be part of a company that cares about quality. Quantity standards are also high, but so is my paycheck.
