They'll work with the report being created in front of them...sm

In Reply to: I was thinking about the huge industry news below - and the elimination of manual transcription..sm
With all the times I've had residents, PAs, or NPs dictate sentences, erase them, start again, erase them, and then end up saying go back to where I said [fill in the blank] and put [such and such] instead, I can't see a machine being able to correctly interpret all that. If they work with the document being created in front of them, they can fix all this stuff as they go along. Just highlight the old stuff they want out and replace it with the new stuff they really wanted.
I can't see the computers picking up medication errors, dosage errors, incorrect dates, new operative equipment, being able to correctly flag right/left, or correct spelling of cc'd physicians' names. Most likely there is another program running with it that would do a pop screen for amoxicillin 5000 mg tid to question it. Physician names are probably in a pop up screen too. Of course, it's not going to correct everything but when the COX-2 inhibitors were taken off the market do you think a human could go through all 5,785 charts to find the people who had been prescribed Celebrex to call them to tell them to stop taking it? Of course not. It's not a matter of IF MT's will be replaced, it's already happening.

I love ExText, others don't. It'll eat a report once in a while, but otherwise it's easy to

I've learned that it is exactly that - a store front. Or maybe just a front. nm

Tell your employer up front that you just want to work "whenever"!!
and see how far that gets you. I've worked for a few medium to large transcription companies, and NOT ONE of them said I could work whenever I felt like it. I started with each one knowing what shift/days off I was required to work, and that's what I did. I have negotiated changes in hours and, when I moved to the new hours, I worked those as required. Donnez-moi un break, s'il vous plait.
No. This company was created by SM
the same people who ran Omnimed after they sold to Dictaphone. They waited out their noncompete and started this one. Sounds very similar to Omnimed from the posts I read.
I used to work at Omnimed and I think that was the lowest pay I ever received from a transcription company in my whole career.
Not all are created equal..
It is not accurate to lump all VR programs in the same category. While I'm sure there are horrible programs out there with companies that don't really care about whether the VR program works for the MTs that is not true in all cases. Like the other poster, I love VR and would never want to do anything else. There is no way that you can do 350 to 400 lines per hour on straight text; it is something that is not hard to achieve with a good VR program combined with a company that doesn't allow just any dictator onto speech. Of course you have to proof the document 100% - I don't think VR will ever be able to recognize everything exact but there are very minimal corrections to make. Maybe that is currently the exception and not the rule.
Macro already created
There is a macro available that will do this for you - you can obtain it at Productivity Talk, it is one of Ed Weber's wonderful macros.
New COO at WMX. Job created just for him, didn't exist before sm
Lots of new hiring at WMX. Me thinks JC is probably behind this, recruiting Spheris/Edix people over there. I will always thing of that scum bag service and Edix, one of the worst, ever.
Well I emailed the person who created it
This is a positive group that is not meant to harm TT. She will do whatever is best for the group as a whole. I don't know her at all because most of us are anonymous but I have confidence that she will do the right thing.
Templates are created by the IT people or
The MT usually does not have access to these things. In my day, we had to put in a request and hope to heck they got it right. Plus, we had to wait a while. I think they're called dictionaries (templates) believe it or not. It has been about a year, and I don't miss that system at all. Clunky, slow, and lost many of reports due to it going down in the middle of typing. Grrrr.....
It's a mythical title created by the AAMT to get yet another fee out of us
Ask any doctor what a CMT is. They have never heard of it.
Well, there ya go.
My account doesn't have a template, I created my
own. The header/demographics is manually entered, though I have a template that has all the required information and I just fill in the blanks. I DO get paid for that information.
Webmedx created rumor mill
I am aware of Webmedx acquiring new accounts. And I will attend the meeting so I can hear how Webmedx cares about its employees because they make it what it is. Any my quality is what I say, and I have never missed getting my linecount until recently when there is no work available to do to meet my linecount. I have worked endless hours, overtime, stat calls on unscheduled time. I have contacted my STM and discussed this on several occasions.
I am not posting unreal fears. These are realities. The rumor mill has been created by Webmedx and their lack of communication with their employees.
That's going to be nuts...I do ASR work too, plus work split shifts. We'll NEED a spread shee

I will only work by the report for radiology and only if sm
I am paid for links and extra for specials. I type 120-200 reports a day for Keystrokes and make more money by far than when I worked for another service and when I worked for a hospital. But make sure that you are paid for links and make sure that the person who hires you and/or trains you is familiar with the account and can tell you what the average report count is. Go with a service, such as Keystrokes, that is known for radiology. There are a few out there but make sure that they have enough radiology accounts to keep you busy. There are slow periods just like with any speciality and a good service knows when they are and how to schedule for them. Do your homework. Not sure if KS is hiring but they have the most rad accounts based on what I researched two years ago prior to going with them. Good luck!
I'll love to know who you work for. I also work every weekend with no extra pay.
It'd be nice to get paid for all the nights and weekends I work.
Since we work over the internet who do you report bad labor practices to...sm
I know one of the MTs that had their job eliminated at Medware last week. The problem is this person's job was not eliminated, they gave it to someone else, but in the generic email it stated that there was no more job. Seems like this should go against some labor law, but since we work over the internet who would you ask or report this to? The job that was eliminated was the day person's job and the day person was given the evening person's job - the job that was supposedly eliminated. We are trying to figure out if there is something that can be done about this or if this person should just say the heck with it and move on. Thanks for any advice.
I "only" make $1.15 per report and have made over $62,000 this year so far. I only work 8 hou
5 days a week and pick up one 4-hour weekend shift a month. It depends on the account, your company, the report length, your expanders, normals, etc. I made $1.43 with Edix before I switched and even though I took a per report loss, I make more money in the past 2 years than ever with Edix. I rarely run out of work, which is a HUGE factor. I know that the company I work for is both praised and condemned on this board, but I am happy at KS.
Some of the VR editing work you have to retype the whole report and then you get pathetic job offers
I had some offers for editing VR as low as 1.5-3.0 cpl and I just want to say to them ARE YOU SERIOUS!!! That is not realistic. I am really afraid to see where this profession is going. Slave wages.
I'll never work for another co. that isn't 100% U.S.!!! NEVER! nm
x
Pretty soon they'll have us pay them to work
It's the same with most companies anymore. Here's how to tell a lot about the company before you aggravate yourself with training, etc.
Who has the most job offers posted? How frequently do they post them? If you see a company trying to hire all day, every day of the week they have a problem, because those they do hire do not stay.
A position that has to be posted so frequently is not a job worth having. Someone left that job for a reason, and it's probably the same reason you won't want that job either.
Tell me, does this sound like a job you would want?
IC at 6 cents a line - You have to give them a schedule when you work, and if you aren't working they call and beat you over the head?
Pretty soon, as I said, they will have us working for free, or worse we will owe them money to sit and type all day. LOL.
That's what happens with me, too; it'll work at the beginning of the day but then not.
My tech guy said he'd look into it but I'm thinking it's just a glitchy program.
I'll bet this one's a real joy to work for.....
;p
Go to work for them and you'll find out
LOLOLOLOL
If you ask for more lines, they'll work with you (NM)
:D
Believe me, you'll work weekends so don't
go bragging just yet. Chances are M-F will find you running out of work.
I'll tell you how its taking work
Say you, and others like you, come on (or remain on) at the beginning of my shift. The work volumes drop dramatically as YOU make up your hours - TAT issues or not. By the time you've made up your time, there's maybe an hour's worth of work left. That runs out rapidly as my shift was already FULLY staffed, and I get stuck sitting there the whole 12 hour window - and if I'm lucky enough work will trickle in during those extra 4 hours that ALL of us scheduled to work my shift that are fighting for it can get their time in and call it a night.
Night after night I run out of work an hour or 2 before my 8 hours are in. Sometimes I only have 20 minutes left to type - but I am forced to sit there 4 extra hours in order to get that stupid 20 minutes - knowing I'll be short EVERY night, so if I don't make my 8 tonight, the chances of me making it up another day are very slim, because everyone is flexing all over the place. Sure it gives us perfect TAT - it also gives us 4 hours of our lives a day, wasted and unpaid!
No I do NOT want to make it up on my days off. I am already spending 12+ hours a day chained to my workstation. My days off are sacred for my sanity. Maybe it doesn't bother you, but it certainly bothers me, and I quit the last job I had where flexing 24/7 was expected.
I know you need to make your hours. We all do. The MTs are just doing what they have to do. The only real solution is to STOP OVERHIRING. Otherwise flexing eventually gets forced on every employee on every shift, whether they mind it or not!
I guess you'll find out when you go to work there....sm
Just be sure to not resign from Transcend until you see if this other company is truly all they told you they would be.
Not much. They offshore, too. You'll get all the crap work.
Great idea. I'll work on this in
Thanks.
I don't think you'll find any work here..unless you have a C-phone...
Not much work here to keep me busy or even make my line requirements.
We must work for the same place.. I'll email you (nm)
x
I'll work for them again if they get another eScription account.
The one I was on was lost. Not too heart broken as it was a pain in the butt account.
You'll have work today, but not tomorrow.
nm
You'll work twice as hard to get half as much, it seems
z
2 Months There--ENOUGH! Only work you'll get plenty of there..sm
Was there less than 2 months. The only work you'll get plenty of there is unpaid work, demographics, looking up names the dictator won't spell... if you complaint about the above, they'll terminate your contract. Thus, hard to get line count...there is little of that!
Even if you're FT, you'll be lucky to have enough work to get your lines,

First rule, never work for a company who says "I'll pay you when I get paid." sm
This is unacceptable. Any company with a decent client base gets paid at least net 30 days. I previously operated a small service and paid my subcontractors twice monthly despite being paid net 30 days by my physician groups. Yes, it was a hardship for me, but I brought those who worked hard to help me maintain my service first. Any company who pays their workers when they get paid, does not deserve to employ others. Plain and simple there is no excuse for this. Please, please find a company who values your work instead of using you.
Worst company to work for. Read the archives and you'll
be hard pressed to find anything good about this company.
If you'll read through past posts you'll find lots of
recent info. Why do you need menitoring if you already work as an MT. Unless you do clinic work most companies will require you to work at least one weekend day, at least initially.
They do tell you up front that they have a lot of ESL. At least they don't lie about it like mos
nm
I have it in front of me and it says
39 hours working 150 lph gets health insurance, 401K and PTO and soemthing called EAP (employee assistance plan-help with family situations?) 39 hours at 100 lph gets 401 K, PTO and EAP Part-time 24 hours with 100 lph gets 401K and PTO and EAP. 16 hours with 100 lph gets 401K, EAP. 8 hours with 100 lph gets 401K and EAP. You need a manual to understand this manual. hahaha. So you see how the lph plays into the benefits now, not just hours but lines per hour. you can work 39 hours and if you can't get 150 lph done you don't get health insurance.
LOL, I have always said I will die in front
x
I also ask up front if they do VR. sm
Haven't done it yet and I am not going to. I will get out of the business before I will do VR. There are still companies that dont do it and some of them I don't believe ever will.
So sorry about this, yes, they should have been up front with you about what was going on, but (sm)
the norm seems to be to keep quiet until everything is finalized, and then let the ball drop. They should have had the decency to at least make a phone call, that was a nasty way to treat someone. I would tell you to come with my company, but we have work shortages too, so I don't think it would help you. Good luck, again!
You'll work as an employee, not IC. Need your own C-phone and pay for your own long distance line
s
Workin, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that one of the suggestions will work for you too. nm
nm
They have created a new position that pays hourly. Anyone know what the hourly rate range is? NM
xx
Look, if you want up-front responses SM
from people, you need to be more up-front about who you are, what company you are hiring for, etc.
That was kind of them to tell you up front
instead of trying to sugar coat it like some do.
