What's with the constant "chickenneck"
references? Is she trying to say we are all old and wrinkly? Just wondering.
The only constant in life
I am not unsympathetic, just uncomprehending.
This MT has almost four months to prepare for the change. Even if she currently has no savings whatsoever, surely in that period of time anyone can manage to put aside a few days' pay for an event she knows is coming up.
What if that MT voluntarily switched jobs and therefore paydays changed because of her decision? What if this merger resulted in a layoff, as it did for me a couple of years ago? At least she has some warning to make ready, which is something not everyone gets before an ''emergency.'' You cannot go through life expecting nobody ever to rock your boat and nothing bad ever to happen. I would be working three jobs to put some money in the bank for the inevitable catastrophe that we never know the nature or the timing of, only that something is bound to go wrong.
Constant late payer..nm

This constant rebooting is taking up a lot of time.

You should check your facts. They have had constant growth, being on the sm
INC 500 list a few times and articles in a few magazines. I have been with Keystrokes for 5 years. When I started, they had 40 or so MTs. Now there are over 300. They were run out of the owner's house. Then they rented an office that was very small for 2 years. Then they bought an office that was bigger and finally, this year, they built one that is huge. That is called growth. Are you going to see changes with growth like that? Yes. Are the choices all going to be perfect? No. Are the changes all going to be good? No. But I will say that if they make a mistake in a change, they are not afraid to change it back.
I think their biggest challenge is and always has been getting a good HR staff. It is time that they stop promoting MTs and look outside Keystrokes for an HR pro. The last person who did the hiring was a very nice person, but seemed very disorganized and a bit overwhelmed. I know she was an MT because I worked in house with her at a hospital for a while. I heard that they let her go last week and have been trying to fit her job in with others while hiring to replace her. I also heard that they are going to take their time and find a person who is used to hiring.
Is Keystrokes perfect? No, but they are one of the best out there right now and their growth will continue. They are sticking with the U.S. only policy and always will, according to the owners, but finding U.S. MTs is a challenge faced by many companies. Are there other companies out there better than Keystrokes? Not sure, but I make great money and have a lot of work, too much work, as they have a lot of new accounts and keep pulling people on the new accounts, asking us to work more.
I would rather be with a growing company that keeps the work here than one that is downsizing due to lack of work, such as many that we see and hear about here.
There are no problems at Keystrokes other than being very busy and trying to fill positions with the right people, which takes more than a 40-second phone call.
I don't get the constant chat about "overhired at Webmedx" - sm
My accounts are constantly running overtime. My STM is asking for OT on at least 3 accounts today and has been for the past month. If you are running out of work, ASK SOMEONE for more!
Constant Transtech emails saying they know work is low, but flex . . . .
This is NOT rumor. Does no good to talk to the company. They themselves are putting out the NO WORK emails to us. They are aware of it. Why talk to them them?
Question about how to deal with constant interruptions, distractions, & guests dropping in...sm
When I brought my newborn home 10 years ago I had just started my first at-home MT job. I felt like the most blessed person in the world! Keeping that precious new baby home with me was all the incentive I needed to work 7 to 8 full hours while she slept. The fact that I lived off the beaten path was also a great help.
Well, here I sit 10 years later at 5:19 a.m., (I haven't been to bed yet BTW) just starting my fourth report that should have been transcribed yesterday, trying to get as much done before 7:00 a.m. before my manager gets in and realizes yesterday's work was just finished moments ago. I pull more all nighters now than I did at 21. This tired body can't handle it anymore. I actually have been getting pitting edema. I sit a lot, just can't produce much.
Soon, my once precious newborn, now 5th grader will be getting up to go to school in an hour, so I'm really hustling. I have a doctor's appointment at 11:00 a.m. 30 miles away (Adderall refill, can't be missed) so when I get home I will have today's work to start on, so sleep or even a cat nap is out of the question.
So what's the problem? My clueless non-working SAHM/sisters ask ironically during my peak work hours. GRRRRR. I've reached the end of my rope.
Non MTs just don't get it. You all know what I'm talking about:
1. The constant phone calls.
2. The cousin that's leaving for Iraq in 2 weeks (you may never see again) who stops in for 3 hours to visit. Sorry, but knowing that could be our last visit will not allow me to ask him to go.
3. Cash Advance places calling looking for your deadbeat aunt who listed you as a sister that hasn't paid them back yet, wanting you to contact her.
4. Mom calling to ask if you can take Dad to the doctor because she has to work.
5. Here's the best yet...My sister actually called me from her job to tell me her horse got out and needed me to go put it back up. This is even when I worked for a hospital and clocked in over the phone. HELLO!!!! You too can clock out and take care of your personal crap. Despite where it is, I TOO have a JOB!!
I've tried screening my calls, but can't help but stop and look at my caller ID to make sure it's not the school. It doesn't matter though because if I do overcome the urge to pick up the phone I can't hear the dictation until the answering machine shuts up. Well since my rhythm is broken anyway, why not toss in a load of laundry? I even tried putting a nicely worded sign on my door stating that I am working, just to have family members come on in because, I couldn't have possibly been referring to them. Then, when I finally get in that groove I've been after all day, it's 3:35 and here comes the schoolbus and it's time to put on the Mommie hat.
How do you all deal with all this and stay focused without overdosing on Adderall (I do have ADHD on a good day) and Klonopin (just in the last year) because of the panic attacks? I am struggling to work a PT job for goodness sake!
Today I finally did it. I have rented my own personal office space!! I'm so excited. I have felt just like a prisoner in my own home... never leaving the house. I have actually hopped in the car just to go get gas, for a moment away. I volunteer to mow the lawn now. I just want to enjoy my home again.
So my question is...How many other at-home MTs here regardless of status have had to resort to renting a small office somewhere just so you can work? Did your productivity improve? Did home feel like home again...your haven? I would love to hear all of your experiences good and bad, and will gladly share mine in a week or two.
What would it hurt?
nm
It can't hurt to ask.
xx
You did not get hurt like I did!
They offered me a position and even the CEO of the company called me directly and congratulated me. I then got this nasty e-mail from the recruiter stating for me to reapply in 3 months because they are just overwhelmed with applications, etc. Talk about dishonesty, unprofessional, etc.! I wasted my time testing with this company where they told me I passed with flying colors. I do not like people who not honest and I would not consider this company to anybody!
It can't hurt to try again...
nm
Can't hurt to ask. They can only say no.
I have always received a raise when I've asked. I've received 2 raises in the last 18 months.
I am hurt
I can't believe the STM on this account could not call the people that were let go while she was on vacation upon her return. Whether she knew this was going to happen or not she should have at least acknowledged us. It would have made all the emails that praised our work, saying we were awesome and a great team seem like they were true. I am hurt and sad and did I mention, sad?
i work for 5 -- what they don't know won't hurt em
I didn't sign anything saying I wouldn't ... so what is it to em. As long as I do what I am supposed to for each, no worries.
Yikes. That's going to hurt your ck
doesn't hurt to ask
I like ops too. When my Webmedx account (not a new account) is busy, I get mostly ops. Don't know why - with most accounts I've every worked on (any company) you tend to get H and Ps and consults before ops.
personally, I think they have hurt THEMselves now.
I think the MTs would not want to work for them for sure. Keep us posted. Their
bad name relations will continue right here out in the open.
I know you are hurt and angry but there is
They can adjust their pay scales any way they want as long as minimum wage is met for your state (if you are an employee). It is not illegal.
It PROBABLY will be illegal for you to contact clients as I am sure there is language somewhere in policy, etc., that states you are not to do so.
Be careful with your anger. It could get you in trouble.
Remember: Webmedx is not the first company to do this and the MT industry is not the first field to have this happen, either.
All she can say is "Are you NUTS?" LOL. I'd ask. Can't hurt. SM
But did you mean 2000 lines/week or 2000 lines/day?
Wouldn't hurt to send it again. nm
it is not going to change or hurt Heartland
In fact, it is not going to make even a drop in the pond if no one joins me or even if some do. But whether or not anyone joins me doesn't matter. I am angry and I am not going to sit back and complain about the issue of offshoring and do nothing about it.
I have written several times to my senators and congresspeople about this issue and will continue to do so.
I chose July 7, 2006 because this is the day American Heartlanders are officially out of a job. However, my personal protest goes beyond just our industry, I also protest all Americans losing their jobs to offshoring.
I think if everyone who has ever been hit by this blight or knows someone who has been laid off simply did not buy a thing on 1 day a year it would make a difference to corporate America. Sort of the the same concept that if everyone voted it would make a difference.
A little compassion wouldn't hurt. You may sm
need some help someday and it would be sad if you were treated the same way, wouldn't it? It's horrible to lose a job and income for any reason.
What goes around, comes around. You'd better duck!
doesn't hurt to ask the recruiter
I was doing radiology for over 5 years, and I have over 25 years of multispecialty, acute care, everything else. Several times in my job search 2 months ago, I was told I needed more recent experience in AC. I answered I was pretty sure that body parts had not changed much, nor had basic formats, and with abundance of reference material online for newer meds or equipment, I didnt think I would have much trouble. Usually they would consider me at that point. One company I tested for, I scored 92 and passing was 94, so I asked to recruiter if I could test again - passed and I am now working for them. In my first week, I have been taken off 100% QA - no regrets on either side I am sure.
I'm gonna give it a try..can't hurt!
On the front page of the Long Beach Press Telegram in Long Beach, Calif. today is the start of a series that is going to run every Sunday for the rest of the year. They are going to share the experiences, some challengiing, some encouraging, of our friends and neighbors this is regards to the slowing economy, unemployment, etc. Also today was a letter to the Editor that basically said If you want to fix the economy in the U.S. then quit outsourcing all the jobs overseas. Jobs here = consumer confidence and spending.
I am going to give it a shot and see if I can get a story about the MT field and how what is happening in MT is NOT related to EMR. The EMR President Obama wants is a MR that is accessible via a computer (EMR) (and HIPPA accountability for privacy) but no where have I seen any reference that the reports that are included in that MR are supposed to be coming from a Third World Country with no HIPPA accountability. The focus behind the EMR is having access to your medical records if you have a medical incident away from access to that infamous paper chart in your doctor's office or prior paper hopsital records that can not be rapidly accessed. I am not against the concept of EMR but I am against the concept of trying to get by with lumping it in with other functions end up eliminating jobs in the U.S. They are our medical records and all components of them should remain in our country. If I am able to pull it off and get a Sunday dedicated to MT and EMR, I will post the link to the article here. Anyone who wants to assist in writing an article give me a shout-out.
You're the one who is unhappy and hurt, etc.

Why does it hurt your ears? good grief

Yes, I've heard that. But it doesn't hurt to let
And it sure as hel* doesn't hurt to let the general public know either!
Doesn't hurt to ask...I asked and got a raise...

Thanks. I think it would hurt even more to be screwed by someone I considered a friend. sm
I had that happen a long time ago. Fortunately, at the time I didn't need the money. She had called me and was panicked because she was snowed under and wouldn't be able to make TAT. I worked myself to death all weekend long, but when it came to pay me, there was one excuse after another, and finally she gave me a check ... and it bounced.
On a happier note, or at least I hope it turns out happy, I wrote to the woman in Virginia again and she finally answered me saying that she had taken care of it and not to bother her again as she had clients to take care of ... whatever. Maybe this time the old squeaky wheel theory works.
I am sure that not all people without direct deposit are cheats, and I am glad you have found someone you can rely on. It will just take awhile to get this bad taste out of my mouth and learn to trust again.
#9 did it for me (Johnny Depp as cabana boy wouldn't hurt.)
it would only hurt those struggling to make their line count
It could endager their job. If they need just 45 minutes extra a day to meet their count, what does it hurt? No one said you have to work more hours. You could always opt out of working longer than 8 hours.
I agree...change can be hard but it doesn't hurt to try...
especially if you are unhappy at your current company...and if you just hate being an MT, time to find a new line of work...Happy New Year everyone!!!
Beats me. It does hurt their valuable employees when they log on to 0 jobs.
I have 4 accounts, a 98.9 quality rating, and I am sure it is hard to plan workflow, but I'm tired of it. It seems cyclic; it has happened a few times a year for the past 3 years. Hopefully, when the new accts start, this will stop. Guess I'll just ask for a 5th account.
They were still interviewing last week--wouldn't hurt to call or E-Mail
As far as I know they are still looking for Acute Care MTs, but I don't know how many they just hired or what kind of hours, FT/PT they still have available. Could be that they are still looking for a couple more. Sure wouldn't hurt to go to their website and call or E-Mail. If they are still hiring, they may be jammed with applications, so if they do not respond right away that is probably a good sign and you should keep trying. They are worth the effort to talk with them.
Details, details.....sm
Minimum is 1000 lpd, Expander is not a problem. Surprisingly, schedule is quite flexible.
We need more details, please. nm
nm
Anyone have any details?
Looking into Probity - anyone have the scoop on them? Their website doesn't say how long they've been in business, or much about their size, platform, benefits, requirements, etc. Does anyone actually work there or are they brand new?
E-me if you want details, MT *or* QA. nm
.
I don't know the details...
I just was told the contract expired and wasn't renewed...for what reasons I will never know. Total bummer man.
details on
*new* insurance plan been released yet? It has been months in the making . . .
Details
Of course, individuals will have different experiences. Some find the accounts a breeze and love it there. I found the accounts to be tough, the QA to be extreme and at times inconsistent. I know that it has been said here that the manager is better now, but this was the primary reason for my departure. I could have dealt with the stringent QA and the tough accounts, but nastiness and disrespect I could not handle.
I would suggest that you try them for yourself. The benefits are great and I loved the fact that I could see how much money I earned for each report I typed almost immediately after completing the report.
Even if the manager was not an issue, I do not think that I could have earned a decent living on the account that I was on. Give them a try, maybe you will get a better account and have a better experience.
See msg for details...
I believe full time is considered $900 per pay period (I think there are 2 pp per month). If they pay 8 cpl that is 1125 lines per day for 10 days. That is about standard (many places 1200 lines/day is full time).
They do have set schedules (I think).
You want details? sm
The owner holds your paychecks and you get paid late and then blames it on the postal service. They over hire and you never can make any decent money because there is too much down time. They don't do anything about cherry picking, yet they will b##h about it (I don't cherry pick because if I did, I would be in hog heaven and would not be writing this post). The owner is rude and you can never get feedback from QA even if you beg for it. Their tech support stinks to high heaven! You will never get anyone to answer any questions after they close at 5 p.m. They don't staff around the clock like most companies do.
The platform they use is EMDAT and not a very MT friendly one at that, so your line counts suffer. The sound quality of their dictations is substandard.
Just some concerned advice to anyone who might be thinking of going to work with them just to save a fellow MT tons of grief. I'm glad I found another company. I was with them for some years and put up and sucked it up and kept saying you have to take the good with the bad. My tolerance level is very high, but this has gotten ridiculous!
Any details?
I applied for the Ortho position too. Any details as to why this company is good or bad from former employees would be appreciated.
Why do you regret it? Any details?
x
Details of my plan
I chose the United PPO plan. If I remember right it has a $250 deductible, a $35 copay, and a 3-tiered drug copay ($10 -$30 depending on the drug). No referral is required for specialists. I'm not sure on the details of the other plans offered, but this is what I have.
Yeah, I'd like more details on this myself. sm
The MTSO sued YOU because THEY stole your time, effort, and talent?? And they WON? Hmmmmmm......I wouldn't be surprised if Robin herself didn't place this post.
Please, no generalities. More details.
