Originally, you had to provide your own long distance, and there were not the sm
unlimited LD services available back then, so D paid more to compensate for you having to provide your own LD. One Suite was the cheapest thing available, and it was 2 cents per minute, I think. Since unlimited LD is now available, that is probably why she felt she could lower the rate of pay. I am only guessing. I was making 11-1/2 cpl when I worked there, and I kind of shot myself in the foot and had to leave. I have had regrets in the past, but maybe I am not missing out on anything anymore. Sad.
Regardless, I am surprised at her paying only 3 cpl for VR, which is below what most companies pay, and trying to assert that you can do 3 times as much on VR. She was always fair with employees and seemed to want to do right by them. I guess that is the way of the business nowadays.
Good luck to you.
Did you see the very long thread from yesterday about
OSI. They said they did not offshore work, thus they were allowed to post here, but it turns out they didn't exactly tell the truth and they do offshore work, thus they are no longer able to post here.
there is a long thread down the page on this
lol
Not the one I am thinking of. There was a very long thread this week
from an MT who was fired and this had to do with the fact that MT should have been fired but still a long thread developed about it. Think it was the beginning of the week or something like that.
The thread should end with THIS post
Perfectly articulated and summarizes everything I felt reading her post and her apparent looking down her nose at that of us who do take these schedules so we can provide for our families.
While I'm sure my teenaged daughter would love to just hang out every weekend, she's understood from a VERY young age that mommy HAS to work to provide her with the things she needs in life, and I explained it and handled it in such a way that she understood. I never got any grief from her about it, and if it was an important event for her, I of course would juggle my schedule to make sure I could be there. I had a bright kid; she 'got' it. Mommy doesn't work = We don't eat. Plain and simple.
Big desire to attending church? Well, if it's an IC position, do your shift before or after services. Last I went, services did not last more than 1-2 hours. Don't understand the problem here, either.
Thank you for articulating precisely what it was that annoyed me about this poster from the get-go.
Your post belongs farther up. Did you not see the name of this thread???

That post was supposed to be on another thread but it seems to apply everywhere! nm

that is what i said originally....sm
but she is getting her panties all in a wad and then she posted 42 DAYS.......HELLO.....Now i know it is 42 days instead of 30....I was actually correct the first time, but off a few days. Still you have to wait a MONTH and a few days. geez!!!
when we (DRC) were originally 'invaded'
They claimed that they wanted their US 'presence' to be a higher level of MT, so that companies that preferred American-transcribed work, or who had accounts too tough for the ESL-MTs to handle, could have it done by American MTs. We were told that we'd be held to very high standards, and that the clients we typed for would be paying more for our services. Anyone with a kindergarten education would assume that American MTs would also be paid better than the dots-not-feathers.
Well, I got my kindergarten education, but apparently the Big Kahunas at Acusis are lacking in that department.
Originally from Waterford....
I was just there today. My daughter wanted some plants from a freecycler who lives on a dirt road with a valley behind her and a swimming pool. She also gave us a lot of yarn, so we were there a long time. I had to mapquest her address because I'm not familiar with the northern part of Waterford.
I originally applied for clinic...sm
but was told positions were closed for clinic and radiology. When he offered acute care, I admitted my weakness in OP reports, and he was still willing to hire me. Like I stated, this was my second time applying (heard nothing the first time) so DON'T give up yet. Good luck to you.
Originally from Waterford, born in sm
Pontiac. Now live in NC. My sister still is in Highland, other relatives/friends, White Lake, Novi, Waterford, Pontiac, Clarkston, etc, all over Oakland County. Actually am going up on October 10 for 2 weeks.
As long as her post is truthful
And not embellished and she has her lay-off notice and emails to back her up, she should be fine.
The other person served papers apparently presented things on this board libelous and defamatory about a company; things that were not as factual as they were preesnted to be. THAT is when one must be careful.
MT30+ is relating a personal experience, not presenting speculation as fact.
She will be fine, legally speaking.
Heartland India based originally
I'm almost certain that at the time Heartland was purchased by HCR, they were originally a India based entity. The Domestic MTs/editors came much later.
I was offered a position, originally accepted it, but
than changed my mind. They told me it would be about 2 weeks before I could work, but the account I was going to be working on was acute care and they needed to get me cleared through the hospital to be able to access their system and then I would have to go through setup. The account I was offered as internet based - I think Dictaphone ExText.
Any suggestions. This post is long, but some of it can be skipped if you want!
Does anyone have any suggestions for being able to check out the important aspects of a job and a company before doing all the testing, signing all the paperwork, going through training, etc? I have been in several situations in which the person doing the hiring makes the job sound so wonderful, but then when I actually start training, there are lots of things that are just frustrating and that were not presented to me at the time of hire. I hoped we could compile a good list of things to ask a company/HR person before taking an MT job. (QAers can also make a list!) We could just all add things as they occur to us to help others. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been led down the primrose path when a company has presented what the job will be like! We've all been there! :) The last place I was hired was just terrible, and that was the last straw. So, I need to make sure I'm smarter in my job search before accepting positions with companies and then finding out the rest of the story later. I know you can't know everything about a job before actually doing it, but I'm so tired of being misled.
My last experience was this: (This is a little long but pertinent to my question to show what I mean by my not knowing enough about a company before committing to it, so feel free to just skip it and provide any suggestions about my question above. Sorry for the long post!)
The last company that I hired with sounded great. I was to be assigned a doctor after my training period for whom I would transcribe regularly, and I liked the idea of typing for one doctor on a regular basis. During training, they trained me on other doctors besides the one I would transcribe for, and then they asked me if I would take a doctor as my primary account who was very unhappy with the transcription services he received from their company. They gave me the choice if I wanted this position or not. I considered it, but then I decided that since I had only been with the company for three weeks and was still in training, that it might not be a good idea to place a new Transcriptionist (I’m not new to transcription, but I was definitely new to their company) on that account. I also needed to be provided with information as to what would be done in cases when he was on vacation (a schedule of which they would not give me so that I could plan when I wouldn’t have work). I asked if I would I transcribe for other doctors, etc. so as not to be without a paycheck during the times when my primary doctor was away. Once I asked these questions and also expressed my concerns about being placed on an account where the doctor was already unhappy, they sent me an e-mail stating that they had no work for me. I was baffled, and sent a letter explaining the situation to an HR person. They sent me a reply stating that my performance had not been up to par during training and that I am terminated. I was so shocked. I have always been a very accurate transcriptionist, and since no one had said anything to me about my work not being good quality during training, I assumed I was on track with their company, especially when they offered me a primary so soon after being hired when I wasn’t even out of training. By the way, it is a good thing I didn’t need much training because this company is VERY poor in the training department. You only get to read their manual. I didn’t get any type of real training on anything other than how to submit my line counts, and that was not even covered fully. Their manual, which is just about the only thing you have to refer to as you cannot get a return phone call or a return e-mail from a supervisor when you have a question, has steps left out of it. (Perhaps I should go ahead and leave any company once I find out that the training and communication are poor as that seems to be a telltale sign of poorly-run companies.) Just to be clear, I read posts from other people on this board who say good things about this company, so I wasn’t expecting them to be like this. This company never said anything during my training about my work performance being below what they expected. In fact, I don’t think they would have offered me the position of transcribing for this doctor who was already unhappy with turn-around times and quality work had my work performance been substandard. Only when I asked questions about the account and said I didn’t think it would be wise to put me as a new transcriptionist on that account did they terminate me and say that my work performance was not acceptable. It’s my feeling that they got angry with me that I did not want to be set up for a fall by transcribing for a doctor who was already unhappy with the services he was getting from them from a previous transcriptionist, so they began fabricating things about my performance. I mean, if my performance was not acceptable to them, then why did no one say anything to me about that until after I said I would prefer a different doctor and also to know what would be done to provide me with work at times when the doctor would be away.
So, the reason I’m typing all this is to say that I want to ask the right questions of companies, but when I asked questions of this particular company, I was terminated. Does anyone think that asking questions about pay, schedule, etc., will keep you from getting a job or from keeping the job once you accept it? I have never been involved with any jobs that didn’t let you know what you can expect in terms of work or in terms of a schedule until I began medical transcription, so I thought asking these types of questions wouldn’t be anything out of the ordinary. I guess this is just a completely backward industry when it comes to things like that which we take for granted in the rest of the professional world. And I certainly didn’t expect this company to begin fabricating problems with my work performance when I did ask some questions! It seems as if the transcription companies want the MT to commit all their time and energy to them, but when they are asked to provide a stable working environment and a schedule, they refuse. It’s pretty one-sided in my opinion. I mean, I sit up nights until 4:00 a.m. to meet deadlines and I work every weekend to accommodate what is needed on my accounts, as I’m sure many of us do who transcribe! Shouldn’t we able to expect to be treated with respect as employees? I’m not desperate for work as I do have two other jobs, so I am trying to look out for myself and get a fitting position and have it longterm, but when a company fires you for expressing concerns and asking questions, it’s pretty confusing as to what they want. And my other experiences in medical transcription have been similar. I have never been told that the quality of my work was not up to par, however until this most recent company! What I mean is that I’ve just run across companies that don’t tell you the real story up front and also mistreat you as an employee. One of my supervisors at my current job told me that she has been in this business for over 20 years, and that even though it’s not pleasant, I should just expect this to be the norm in this business. She is very level-headed and really smart and experienced, so I trust what she says. It’s just pretty frustrating to think that this is the type of industry I have to look forward to!
I do want to “search smarter” for jobs next time. I have a bachelor’s degree in English and Communication Arts, teach English, and I have over three years of transcription experience. I don’t expect to start with a company as the boss or even at the very top pay, but I feel that I should be able to find a good company, and I want to ask the right questions. Any ideas out there?
look back a few days.. LONG post about this
3800-4200 per month - sm long post
I have worked for the same national for the past 8 years.
I might add that I have not made this much every year but it has been a gradual increase.
I get an average rate 0.085 and set personal daily goals far above the minimum required. If I reach my goal of 2000 lines in 8 hours, great, if I don't, oh well. Not worth killin myself over.
I go to all of the kids functions, games, plays, concerts, take them to and from school, practices, etc...
I take advantage of the extra incentives when I feel I have the energy and sometimes when I don't but they really need to get the TAT back in line.
They don't ask over much of me.
I would make a few recommendations for you.
First, do not throw in the towel with one company after a few months just because you aren't where you want to be as far as production goes. New polices, accounts, platforms... all of it takes time to learn and get comfortable with.
Secondly, set your OWN goals. Increase them slowly over time so you don't feel like you are chained to your desk. You will see your production start to increase soon enough.
Thirdly, if you aren't hasseled constantly, get a decent rate, and have a decent support system in your coworkers and supervisors, compare that with the other places you have been and ask yourself why you left in the first place, then weigh your options.
I left my last employer because there was a lot of gossip and little work getting done and I am a doer. It just drove me bananas. Much happier now.
Lastly, even with my current company, I have had to start from scratch several times due to loss of an account, loss of my expanders or macros due to technical reasons, I have filled myself during the feasts and starved through the famines but, I would much rather be right where I am than anywhere else.
Geesh..It's been a long day. I don't think I made any sense on that post.
Bottom line is, best pay rate out there, most of the time enough work and good benefits. They have a lot of happy employees.
I knew it wouldn't take long for a flamer to post...sm
I don't even know where to start. Do YOU have a child(ren) who plays soccer every Saturday or football every Sunday? Do YOU go to church? Do YOU have kids you want to take to Sunday school? Some of us that work at home need that weekend time to spend with our families and GOD!
You show me any other profession that requires a person to work either every Sat or Sun. There isn't any!! Doctors rotate and so do nurses! It just sounds to me like these MTSOs don't want to take the time or spend the money for a scheduler. How hard can it be???
Just remember... proofread! You had a bunch of typos in that long-winded post!

No problem :) No matter how long, it is too long for me - I am broke the day after payday. Kids wi
do that to you!
I know that they have worked very hard to make sure that checks are never late and I can say that in the past two years, I have had one problem (2 days late) and in the past 18 months, they have all been on payday and perfect.
I know that there are a lot of hard feelings in MT in general. I also know firsthand (and I am not mgmt) how hard KS has worked to get things going good.
I would not want to walk in an MTSO's shoes for any amount of money, but that's just me. I like to finish my work for the day, forget about work when not working and get paid on payday. I never want the other things that go with mgmt or owning a company of any kind :)
They definitely rip you off with your line count. Figured this out long ago and quit long ago

What really sucks is that I looked for a LONG, long time -sm
before joining DRC - wanted a highly reputable, not-too-big co. that was LOCAL, and that treated its MTs humanely. I'm very happy with DRC & had planned to stay with them permanently.
My post should say the post above not the post below, Sheryl's post to be specific. nm

Long, long history of not paying...and
similar posts have been made here in the past few months. Everyone thinks they will be different, and then they end up coming back here to warn others that they don't pay.

there is a thread going now, look below

My bet would be no. From the other thread

Oh, not another TT thread. Not another day of this!
It's getting like MQ. Get TT their own grip board, will you? It's no fun coming here anymore with the same gripes over and over again. Ugg.
There's a thread below about that
Apparently they want a Transcriptionist in their Bangalore office- or at least their ad states they're based in Bangalore and looking for an in-house transcriptionist.
Keystrokes thread
Get over yourself. You're defending a company you say you don't work for and you want me to leave it be? ROFL.
I'm an observer who understands double-talk. Shoot me for pointing it out to those who might not have caught it. Apparently a lot of people did. I made some interesting observations. Is that what's really bothering you? Does one have to work there to make an observation, ask a question, or question their comments? Sounds like you have a problem with people who can think for themselves.
I'm sorry I missed the posts of those "trying to soothe" me. Is that why the thread was removed because there was so much soothing going on? You obviously read all of them. Why? Or maybe you misread all of it just like the one who viciously answered my post.
Keystrokes thread
Did anyone notice that Keystrokes personnel got pretty vicious?
Hanging by a Thread..
Yes, I currently work for HIS, but not for the reasons you have. I am only holding on for the insurance and PTO. My supervisor is unbelievable rude and all of my accounts are 97% ESL. If HIS is not being sold, why are people leaving left and right? It makes me wonder if the employees in-house know more than the remote staff.
Thread deleted. (SM)
The thread was without any substantiation whatsoever, just 2 inflammatory remarks with no credibility and the replies were starting to get out of hand.
Information about any company can be posted here; however, it should be posted with specific information, not just general name-calling and not even specific complaints listed.
The thread turned and
and drifted to another company. It's not your fault, and it's easy to see how you could have taken it the way you did. (As an aside, I totally understand and empathize with the late nights!!!)
And I agree with what you said. It is very helpful to express good experiences with a company. However, I'm not going to do that unless I've been with a company for a minimum of 1-1/2 years.
I don't know how long you've been with FN. I can only speak from my own experience, and I came here before as a newbie, bragging about how great a company was, only to discover months later that the negative comments I responded to were completely accurate and warranted, and now I have egg on my face. ~LOL~
I won't ever post a positive post about a company until well after the honeymoon period, when I'm certain they're for real, even though I know how tempting it is when you think you've struck gold and found the right company, getting good line counts, making lots of money, etc., to want to share that positive experience with the world!
Sometimes I think that's part of the company's reason for the honeymoon period: So the employees will think the company is so great, they happily and unwittingly become a PR person for the company.
I've recently been burned pretty badly by the company the above poster was referring to, so that's why I responded. Even though she didn't mention any specific names, those of us who are employed by that company know exactly who she was talking about.
Again, I apologize for confusing the issue. I totally believe everything you said about FN, and I'm glad you found a company that makes you want to defend it. There's nothing better than being able to respect and trust your employer. I hope someday I can find that kind of company, and I just might check FN, based on your comments.
In a thread yesterday or the day before, a QT MT said that .... sm
she had heard from loose-lipped office staff, as I believe she put it. Soit was leaked out unintentionally but, I would imagine, not without merit.
Pulling up thread from below. Why I believe MT is not going
anywhere for a while ...
WordPerfect 5.1
We still have clients that use it. If they are still on DOS-based word processing, do you REALLY think they are going to invest in Voice Recognition? Do you think that they are so open to change that they will welcome offshore transcription with open arms?
We have to learn technology and be ready for change, just like when typewriters were replaced by computers, but technology changes do not happy everywhere overnight.
In addition, the VR that I have seen in place has a LONG way to go. If they put it out too early, which I truly believe, it will take a lot to convince someone to give it another try. I think this is why they realize now that they cannot do without the transcription component.
Can't get rid of us that easily
This is weird, I was actually under the thread I was
.
and I thought this thread was going so well
I often quote Einstein when he gave his reason for not remembering his home address. He said he didn't dedicate anything to memory he could look up so he could use more of his brain on more important thoughts! Of course, I'm blonde so that saves me sometimes :)
BUT, when it comes to knowing tenon versus Tenon, that is important and will slip by any well taken and readily available notes when you're going too fast to care to look it up. Well taken notes don't help if you don't remember the contents. I think everyone has stumbling words but good MTs know how to compensate for that with good work habits and productivity tools. Having a cooperative attitude is something else they test for on verbals.
Well, I think some of the posts in this thread
I think it was this thread.... A recruiter had come on screaming at everyone saying she didn't have time for every (can't remember exact names) Jane, Jean, Abdullah, or Mustafeh who contacted her but didn't suit her needs. Then she went on a bizarre rampage--it was really quite spectacular, albeit on the dark side. Then she used the name Mustafeh again, basically saying she couldn't give a d*** what an unqualified Mustafeh thought of the situation. She received a reply saying that someday Mustafeh might have exactly the skills and experience she would need, and s/he would remember her rudeness. So....I think that's where it comes from.
looks to me most replies in this thread are from QA
not MT. Good for you that you talk to MTs daily. Now, what does that have to do with my opinion? Are you implying I am supposed to think like everyone else?
I challenge you to not just talk to the MTs, but ask their opinions on lower pay, longer hours, making less money than when they started...
The MTs I would talk to would be the single mothers, or MTs who are supporting themselves or are the heads of their household, not married, not working for a second paycheck. When I started some 15 years ago, I was making more than I am now, benefits and everything included.
Rather than just say things like that is how it is, it is a business, etc., etc., I say, why not be role-models for the future? Where else can that be done other than chat rooms or boards...
This is the only outlet, period, so when people express their opinions and are personally attacked, rather than supported, even if in disagreement with the majority, you are only allowing more and more repression...
This whole thread is weird and obviously has some
ulterior motive - so much name throwing and personal smut details. Susan and now Tara? Sounds like Days of Our Lives. Give us a break. We're really not interested in whatever your personal agenda is. Buh bye!
You may want to start a new thread.
Not many people going back this far in archives for discussion.
it's about time. That thread was truly getting old
nm
That isn't the point of this thread -
which you know already. Nothing like trying to change the subject BECAUSE you can't defend your position.
It's because there are people in this particular thread (sm)
who aren't reading posts and who are jumping on the defensive in an offensive way. JMHO. This whole thread has turned into a train wreck.
