I have experience and never heard back from them. They're a Sten-Tel branch. nm

There are diff Sten-Tels (sm)
I worked for them (the one in Springfield, MA) for about 18 months, up until September. I ended up quitting because there was no work and I could not get anyone, from my account supervisor to HR management, to either a) tell me why the account I was on dried up even though the docs had just opened a second office, or b) get me onto an account that had work, or even c) respond to half my emails (account manager). I did enjoy the work, it was straight typing (the platform I was on, they have 2), and the work was pretty consistent until mid-July. After six weeks of begging, I had to move on. Oh, and the kicker? When I would actually get work, I could tell by the job number that literally 10s of thousands of jobs had moved through the system since the last time I worked. But they couldn't find any jobs for me to do....And don't zing me on QA, please. In the 18 months I was there I only had maybe 5-6 reports come back to be fixed or with notes from the client, and that was early on.
Now, having said that - if they called me and offered me work again under a different account supervisor would I take it? Absolutely.
There are many different Sten-Tels out there, and from what I can tell they are mostly franchises, with the main branch being the one in Springfield. They pay once a month, and the checks were usually delievered via USPS anywhere from actually on the 15th to up to a week later. There were some pay discrepancies a couple of times, but as soon as I mentioned them they were fixed.
Hope that helps.

send resumes to the smaller companies, try your state first, and then branch out. sm
they are out there. If you can put your money where your mouth is and prove your skills, these small to mid size companies will grab you. I work for a mid-sized MTSO in my state. They absolutely do not outsource overseas, do not mess with VR, and I make .10 at minimum, more depending on the specialty I get. I bounce around between 5 specialties, but have become familiar enough with each specialty to make a good line count. Sorry, I'd rather not share who I work for. The company does not even advertise. You will find many of these companies do not advertise because very seldom are they in need of MTs, as most of their MTs stay with them for years.
Acutally it's the Mass. Sten-Tel. Hmm...same state as your company. In cahoots, maybe? nm
s
same here .. oh well, they're obviously not interested
nm
They are now advertising for IC's located anywhere. Just FYI in case you're still interested.
xx
Several by that name. What state is the one you're asking about? nm
s
Could the MT also take it to a branch of the bank...
On which it was drawn, and would it then be stamped NSF? I was thinking it might save her some money for that bounce-back NSF fee, provided it's drawn on a national bank like BofA or WF where there might be a branch close to her home.
I've never had to do this (thank goddess!), so I'm kind of taking a shot in the dark here.
Depends on which branch.
x
Which branch of MD-IT is the "good one"
but want to apply to the right branch. Thanks in advance.
Unless something has changed, health insurance rates vary state by state, so we may not have the
info you need. I'm an IC so I don't have benefits.
Still looking for Patti who was the former manager of the Las Vegas branch of the
unmentionable company here. Does anyone know the name of the company she is now in charge of or is starting? Thanks.
It's less an American co with branch in India, than an Indian
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You are correct. The state that rules is the state the employee lives in.
My state laws has is spelled out in their Code. If another state does not withhold, they are fined heavily and if they don't withhold for years, their fines are pretty bad. I worked for a Florida co that did not withhold income tax for my state even after I brought it to their attention in the state code. They kept saying that they would eventually and never did. After two plus years and when I left, I made it known to my state all the conversations, the state refunded me all late fees they charged me and then said they were going after the company in Florida because they had many employees in our state. They deserved it. They knew better.
Is this the branch you have to pay your own long distance for? Is a C-phone needed? nm
v
Do they have an ad somewhere? A search is only giving me a Michigan branch owned by an Indian. nm
s
The state you live in or the state where the MTSO is located? nm

Great News!! I was able to cash the check yesterday. I called the branch directly and they said-sm
right now it was good. I do live in another state but her bank was bought by a bank that is local to me. I went there as soon as I could get there and they cashed the check for me!!! She owes me another small check ($84 and change) which I still have not received. I was beginning to think that I was never going to see this $$ (the last time I was able to cash a check from her was back in January). I guess if I bug her enough I will get my other funds. I think she just wants me to go away which I will as soon as I get all the funds owed me. She also owes me a 1099 but I am not going to stress over that. I still have my records. Thanks all for your ideas.
If company is in state that has no state taxes
they are not required to take out state taxes. It's enough to keep up with your own state tax law code, could you imagine having to stay abreast of 49 other state tax codes? The cost would be huge and ultimately passed on to us by lower line rates. Regardless of who owes the tax, someone has to pay it. Just a matter of convenience I guess.
Not state by state, federal labor law - sm
and you don't have to be asked. If you work it, asked or not, they have to pay time and a half OT rate for hours worked over 40 in a week.
Taken right from U.S. Dept of Labor -
An employer who requires or PERMITS an employee to work overtime is generally required to pay the employee premium pay for such overtime work. Employees covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)MUST receive overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek of at least one and one-half times their regular rates of pay. The FLSA does not require overtime pay for work on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, or regular days of rest.
Extra pay for working weekends or nights is a matter of agreement between the employer and the employee (or the employee's representative). The FLSA does not require extra pay for weekend or night work or double time pay.
Different state to state. You would be surprised to find
IC can be defined differently state to state. Even the IRS cannot come up with a definitive set of rules. You would be surprised how many ICs actually get unemployment in some states. If the unemployment claim form asks specifically if you are an independent contractor, do not lie, but if it does not, do not volunteer it. Let the company prove you are a true IC according to the rules of your state. All you lose is a few minutes filling out the claim form. I would only do it as a last resort. If you can find work fast, by all means go for it, but the way things are now with all the VR and off-shoring, it is a backup if you cannot find work. No one should go hungry because they are afraid to file for Unemployment as an IC.
They should take out state taxes for the state
nm
It varies from state to state
nm
Varies from state to state
My own state recognizes partial unemployment, too, when your work gets cut down to half of your regular workload/income.
They must deduct FEDERAL taxes.. NOT STATE taxes.. if they took out state taxes.. it would be FLORID
which would only have to be refunded to you for you to pay YOUR state what you owe them which is nothing but a pain... be glad they weren't handling your state tax.. and I think in this case.. if someone at the IRS told you they have to deduct YOUR states taxes.. it is that person who is uneducated... they only have to deduce federal income tax
I'm interested too
I've thought about going back to Transolutions, and this looks interesting. How are they coming up with the hourly rate offered to each person, do you know? What sort of accounts? I was wondering if this was a crew of people who went around getting the new accounts started or filling in when there is an overload on accounts. Is there any special or different training? Would I be working on the DOS or Windows platform?
Any info would be great.
C-Bay has always been interested in HIS,
I wouldn't be surprised if they jump on this offer. You have no chance if C-Bay buys HIS as they don't have a domestic team! If you think HIS has too many indians, C-bay is owned/operated/managed by them!!
Also interested.....sm
Please post only if you have worked there in the last year. There are lots of negative posts from late 2004, but from what I understand, there have been major management changes since then, so I'd like to hear from those of you who have experiences from 2005. Thanks!

VERY INTERESTED
Hi,
I am very interested in your company I have experience with Medical Transcription and I would like to send you guys my resume. If you would please get back with me asap. my e-mail is gsopiglet143@yahoo.com
If you are interested
in an employee status position, most require that you type a minimum of 150 lines per hour. You could probably easily find an IC position with an MTSO, they are not usually as strict with the hourly line count. Also, working as an IC allows you to work more than 8 hours a day to get your desired line count.
Sue, I would be interested...
I would be interested weekend or back-up transcription. Let me know how to contact you. Thanks!
Interested
If you were truly interested in
the job, you would find the time. Just like you would find the time to look things up when transcribing actual dictation. Did it ever occur to you that they may have been testing your research skills as well as your knowledge?

Can you e-mail me a company name or any info?

You would be interested in becoming an

I'd be interested
in what the problem seemed to be. I really don't consider myself to be exceptional. I've worked a lot of places and on so many accounts I lost count a long time ago and I've yet to leave a job because I couldn't make any money. I know people say all the time they can't get their lines with this or that company and I just don't understand it. Were you by chance doing chart notes? If so, I can't speak to that as I've never done anything except acute care.
Thanks! Those of us who are interested in this -

I'm interested.
What do you know?
FYI, if you are interested...
they handled it BEFORE Monday. An email went out this afternoon by someone in management that it was his/her human error and an apology was issued and explanation given. The matter is resolved in my mind.
I'm interested, sm
Very interested, I like typed in the USA or some variation of that, as long as USA or America is in there somewhere. I am very interested. I am also in PA, but not near Philly, in the Poconos.
Where is the ad for this? I'd be interested...nm

IMO...if anyone is interested....
I think if we have to work for 3 different companies to get the equal of one good paycheck, it is time to get out of this profession, and that is what I am planning to do!!! Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!!
Same here, was interested until I saw that. :(
I got paid that as a new grad just 3 years ago. I really do need a job but at that rate It's just not worth it.
Would be really interested to know
Knowledge? Spelling? Typo? Punctuation? Grammar? Inconceivable to me that an untimed open-book test would be a problem.
I (along with many others) was laid off due to a merger a few years ago. I filed for unemployment and several weeks later, before it was granted, I was invited to test to be hired back. For 10 years prior to that, with several companies, I had always scored over 98% on QA reviews, but on this test I ''passed the knowledge portion and failed the transcription portion.'' I always figured that the invitation was with the hope that many of us would not respond; then they could say they had offered us jobs, but we refused. But when I actually did play the game and took the test, I ''failed'' because they really did not want any of us back and were just hoping I would not test, that way they could say I refused a job offer and avoid paying unemployment.
At least, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
I'm interested too. Please contact me also.
