Speaking from experience.. you work all day and make nothing. I also have worked for other companies
on Escription and made a lot more.I just came to the conclusion that they do not pay for headers, footers, spaces etc.. I swear I would work 8 hours and be lucky to make $50. It was my first Escription account so when I changed companies I could not believe it. I make in a few hours what took me 10-12 hours to make at Focus. Dont waste your time. They design it so you dont make any money. What a waste of time working there.
I make 4 cents a line, work part and make
over $500 a week on part.

Spose it could be ez to edit some and then type some back and forth. So youre actually making two salaries, sounds like a fantastic idea!

Just curious. I work 1 weekend day, prefer having a day off during the week, but doesn't seem fair that others have to work weekends, and you don't.
Are there any companies that don't make you
work from a pool, but allow you to download or send you so many minutes or files per day from a particular clinic or hospital dictator(s). I just want to do my jobs and be done when they run out. I don't want to have to wait around for more dictation or have dictation from unknowns put in my queue to fill up my shift. Do such places exist?
You would have to gross over $400 a day M-F. How exactly do you manage this?

If they are great, that must mean they manage well,
and if they manage well, I'm thinking they won't over-hire just because loads of resumes come in.
For $50K a year, I'd bet you'd manage a lot more
than a couple of accounts! I know several MT supes, and they are run ragged! And they don't make anything near $50K, so I am kind of skeptical about that quote. I would bet more in the $30K range. And the logic the companies use for the pay cut from MTing? That's its a guaranteed pay rather than production. I have never heard of an MT supe making that much!

I wouldn't want to manage in this profession if it was the last job on earth. I'd go on public assistance first! This profession has made a turn for the worse. So, I think it is pretty sad that someone needs three jobs to stay afloat. I guess I have a different perspective on things, but I am just an MT and have never managed anyone or anything other than my household!

Honestly, they went through in-house staff faster than I changed my socks. Hire and fire was their motto for both in-house and remote transcriptionists. And talk about micromanage, well, that was a whole nuther story....
Can I manage this delicately?
I am an hourly QA at a company and because I am a high producer with a lot of bang for the buck I am given very little leeway for time off. I generally don't pay attention to what other people do and mind my own business. The problem is that a couple of my coworkers will send me IMs saying they are taking breaks, aren't feeling well and are leaving for an hour or two, their internet service is about to go out because of weather, pretend to lose internet connection if a stat comes in from an account they don't like, and on and on (yet they remain on private IMs). They do not notify our supervisor and I am left holding the bag. Our supervisor has no idea this is going on. Is there any possible way that I can do something about this other than finding another job? I am not a snoop and don't throw people under the bus, but this is so unfair.

Too many companies invested money in VR, and they are going to make
sure they can use it, no matter what. So even if it can only type if, and and the correctly, it will be put into VR and the poor MT that has to straighten that garbage out will be paid a big fat amount of around 4 cpl. These companies are the greediest bunch I have ever seen. None of them are worth the ground they sit on.

My SIL works for KS, and she gets paid double for linked reports too. Where do you get $2.25? I am ready to leave Spheris.

I am a single parent of 2 and manage just fine as a SE, sm.
There is no special trick to it but I suggest before you do to write out a budget and make sure you are going to make enough to pay all your bills including a weekly amount for gas and groceries and have plenty of extra money for those unexpected expenses. Also, remember as an IC or SE there is no insurance benefits so you have to be prepared for that for you and your kids. You can do it!!!
What companies don't make you follow exact schedule?
Looking for a company that allows some flexibility on what time I type each day instead of a strict schedule that I set up. This is just to deal with occasional appointments or if the kids have a class play I want to see, etc. Most days a schedule would be fine but I also don't want to be stuck with it!
The company I used to be with was like this but they now require schedules to be followed. I see the point in that but I also know that some exist with more flexibiity!
Any ideas?

Gee, I only make negative comments about companies I've actually worked for
and have the scoop on. I never said the line rate was high for this company, but nice fast software is what saves a good MT's line count. There are plenty of ESLs too, but no more than most acute care hospitals. So if you can't handle ESLs, you wouldn't want to work for TT (or most other hospital accounts). The new accounts are not teaching hospitals, which is good for me because I don't like doing residents. For now there is plenty of work and OT when you want it. So IMO a starting line count isn't the only important factor for how much money I can make, and certainly not the only factor in my job contentedness. They are fair and respectful and use good software, and those are the facts, not theories.
Still notice a couple of companies offering sign on bonus. Does it make you wonder? sm
Are they just an extremely exclusive type company, wanting only the best and willing to pay for it or is there something wrong they have to bribe people to come to work for them?

Could you please provide names of companies where you are able to make required line counts
and then some? I am struggling to find a platform or company which counts lines where a person can make more than 10K or 11K lines in a 2 week payperiod. This is silly. This MT used to make 10K lines every week. Any and every suggestion would be appreciated. BTW: Also please if you can let us know here where you cannot meet line count. You can use initals so you don't get in trouble. Thanks in advance.

I do not work for them, but I have done recruiting for companies of their type of work
It is A LOT different than regular medical transcription. The pay is a little less (unless you are proficient and fast), but the work is harder in that there are multiple people speaking and the nature of the medical advisory boards are quite detailed. I receive quite a few resumes of medical transcriptionists wanting to do this type of work, but when you test them, it is a whole different ballgame.

You will work like a dog at 4 cpl and not make much.
I suspect they do not pay for footers, headers, spaces, etc. I used to work there and it would like me 12 hours just to make $100 and I think I am fairly fast. Someone wrong with that picture.
Make sure they have enough work
I worked for them maybe 6-7 years ago and they didn't have enough work, we were running out every day. They only had one major hospital account, the rest clinics. It was a long time ago, things may have changed. Be sure to check that out!

The OP said she was low on work on one particular account. She asked if anyone else had experienced this. I responded I had been low on work on that particular account as well. The original thread really ended with OP saying thanks, she just didn't want to think she was the only one experiencing the shortfall. So now she does not have to feel that she was singled out to receive less work. I don't think that was ever the case, it never has felt that way to me. And the fact is that there has been more than enough work available on that particular account for this entire past week.
Neither the OP, (Anon) or the respondent, (myself - Wise) wrote anything in any way negative. Certainly NOTHING was said about any particular person, including about any particular recruiter. It was strictly a question about work flow.
Why people have posted emotions, such as stunned, or saddened, about a very routine question, is beyond me. If we worked in office, we would certainly ask our coworker about everyday matters such as this one. While a short period of low work load can be frightening and frustrating, knowing that I'm not the only one reassures me that I'm not being singled out.
Just as the recruiter writes in the latest ad on the other site, DRC is the best MT job I have ever had, and I am glad to tell my MT friends about them.
These knee-jerk reaction posts insinuating that something else was written really serve no purpose except to inflame.
I can see that it will be better for me to confine my answers to individual e-mails from now on for anything but the What's for dinner? questions.

They can't make you do it. They can tell you when the work is there,
as someone else said, if you can't or don't want to work at the times they have work available, they'll find someone else who can. The client IS allowed to specify what they want/need, there is no set rule about that, but they can't MAKE you do anything. They can stop offering work if you aren't meeting their needs, but unless they pay your taxes, they can't set your hours for you.
The painter analogy is good one because if you hired a painter, you can tell them you don't want them there in the middle of the night, what painting you need done, what kind of paint you'd like, etc. A good IC painter is going to do their best to provide those things to please their client and obtain more work or referrals, but they certainly don't HAVE to do so. They could still show up to paint in the middle of the night while your family is sleeping and use lead-based paint, but would you keep that painter on or find a new painter who can work during the day and uses the paint you prefer?

With Transcend, too much instability. If you want to find yourself jumping from account to account when one runs out, then you'd do fine. Personally, it is too frustrating to me to constantly have to jump around. It hasn't always been this way so I suspect either overhire or sending more work to India than they already do.

I take it these are employee positions.... No IC should be working a set shift; if you are, you are really in a desparate situation. LOL - too funny how MTs will stoop to scramble to test and await a response from someone who obviously cannot even post a job correctly. Just my 2 cents. There are days when I shake my head and wonder what the he** was I thinking 20 years ago when I decided this is the life for me. NOW I am stuck to the money like glue and nothing pays like this ... so I'm damned if I do ... damned if I don't.

it does tend to be slow around the holidays. The dictation is lower, but you would think that there would also be several people taking time off too and that it would balance out.

I can understand that if the work is low. While you need to make
up lines, it isn't fair to others to not have work on their shift either. Depending on the workload for my accounts the work is only low about 1/2 day on Mondays and then there is lots to go around, which is when I try to make my up lines.

We are not privvy to how much work is in the system at any given time. We only know what is in our queue. This is just absurd on so many levels.
