The mechanic's lien

pertains to work someone (painter, carpenter - husband was one of these - , plumber, electrician, etc.) does on a building, that then becomes a part of that building and cannot easily be repossessed. The lien prevents the building from being sold until the lien is paid off. A guy could wait many years but eventually might get his money.
Since an MT doesn't have such a tangible claim, I'm wondering if there's any other type of lien that might be filed. I was probably talking through my hat when I mentioned it, just a thought....
