The last 3 companies I have worked for have all...

overhired. They weren't scrambling to keep the positions filled. They certainly weren't working to keep skilled MTs from leaving. They were concerned about their TAT and only their TAT. They offered incentives to clients for their business by guaranteeing discounts for reports that were out of TAT. The larger MTSOs were working on technology to promote quantity rather than quality.
Instead of thinking at the next level, step back for a second. In order to be paid for their services, clients HAD to have their transcription completed. Before NAFTA, the clients compensated fairly for their in-house or remote personnel. Even after the larger MTSOs tried undercutting the independent MTs, they were still paying a fairly high rate for transcription...sometimes paying the MTSOs up to 18 cpl (or more). After NAFTA, they found they could virtually eliminate their transcription departments (if they were smaller hospitals/clinics) or at the very least cut them to bare bone because it was saving them a tremendous amount of money by using offshore outsourcing services. They were doing the same things all the large companies were doing. Now in order to make the money, the MTSOs have to produce large quantities to compete, which can only be done by foregoing quality.
So, when thinking at the next level, I do agree with you that there will be consequences of the tax changes. But it was a very poorly thought out plan to begin with and now we're reaping the consequences of it. I just don't agree that there is a shortage of American MTs when there are so many MTs scrambling for work.

Glad it worked for you. I have worked for companies
that were more reliable and paid without the delay I had. Maybe you started before they started doing that but it makes no difference. I TOO am a single parent.
You are not trying to argue? Sounds like you not only are trying to argue but you are just waiting for anyone to post anything about the co on here so you can just get out there and respond, which seems to be the way I have always noticed it. It's like all the MTs or whoever that work there are just waiting to respond.
This board is about the good points and bad points about companies. I am telling my experience.
The people were nice people though, but my experience was not a good one and I will not say it was.
I can go a week after the end of payday and even 10days later but that's it. Kids would starve.
He worked for YOG, JLG, MDI-MD, QT, and God knows how many other companies. sm
He had groupies who would follow him wherever he went ........ and then also groups who detested him.
Me, I just never understood his overinflated opinion of himself, but then again, I suppose a healthy ego is good for us. Good for him, I guess.
How many companies have you worked for?
It sounds like you have had a lot of experience with different companies... Just cuious.....
Because I worked for all 3 companies
and lo and behold there she was. I used to wonder why I couldn't get quick answers from her, it was because she had her finger in too many pies at once. She is no longer at one of the companies but she is still at the other two. The difference was I wasn't double dipping, I was getting paid per line whereas she was in salaried positions for each company. I just had one FT job and two IC PT jobs.
I am glad you know who they are; I don't. I have worked for several companies
as QA and in all but one case, the QA manager was an MT with much experience. The job I have now, the QA have a lot of latitude with the MTs and mentor, but none of them have the attitude of feeling better than the MTs or project it. It sounds as if you are trying to talk yourself out of it. I love my job and I love working with the MTs. It is all in what you want out of the job how the job will be. You must like doing QA though because you will not make the hourly rate that you would make doing MT work if you were a fast MT (like I was). I enjoy doing my job. I cannot find anything that I can say against QA other than the fact that there are cheap companies out there that try to get away with paying QA by the line and I would avoid them like the plague because that's what they are. They truly cannot care about quality if they pay on quantity for their final product.
I worked for several of these companies, just found
greener pasture, but in defense of the companies, I was hired immediately, I did not wait for weeks, days, etc. Perhaps part of it is that I do all work types, I am flexible with my schedule, I will work weekends and/or holidays, etc., and my test results, when given, are very high.
This is the norm at the companies I have worked for. sm
Don't take it personally. A lot of us go through the same thing. It hurts when a punctation error is pointed out, yet no mention is made of what a great job you did on the medical terminology. Kind of wounds the pride. Take comfort in the fact that the rest of your report was without error. You should learn to follow the style your company wants you to follow. They each have their own rules.
DSG is one of the worst companies I have worked for
and I think they have a very high turnover rate. I did not even get my start-up paperwork for 3 weeks and I honestly feel this is because they have so many people quit the first 2 weeks they wait to see if you make it that far before they bother mailing out the package to you! I lasted 4 months - I was absolutely desperate or would have quit sooner. Their accounts are absolutely horrible, management is the worst I have ever seen - do not answer emails, demand you be on IM but only to IM you - never to answer an important question, if you bring up a legitimate question on an account specific they ignore you as if not important, inconsistent as heck on the account specifics, ask if they can call you and then finally call 2-3 days later, make a huge ordeal about minor things. Only thing they have going for them is the platform - other than that they pretty much are a horrible, horrible company and I would steer clear of them seriously.
I do not work for KS but have worked for enough companies to know that sm
you are on your own for training after a brief training for the most part but that if you ask questions, you will get answers. I would prefer that, with a good manual, than sitting in a few 8-hour days of training, which has happened at 2 companies. I learn fast and get bored with long training. Different strokes for different folks :)
I have worked for 6 companies using Extext
You can do a ctrl-s and do documents typed today and get a list of them.
I have worked for 3 companies by the minute. sm
It always seems to balance out if you do a lot of work. I have had formulas of 10 lines per minute, 10.2 lines per minute and 11.4 lines per minute. It comes out to between 0.08 and 0.09 per line when you do it that way and seems fair to me.
The last 2 companies I worked for DD my check the
first pay period. There could possibly be a bank issue, but it isn't an across the board issue.
I've worked for several companies
and I would hate to be on a list like that - eeek!
As someone who has worked for many large companies, sm
I've seen this many times before. Companies downsize or streamline or whatever they want to call it OFTEN, especially management level positions. I wouldn't blow this out of proportion.
I have worked for a lot of companies and can tell you this has the worst mgmt of sm
any company I know. They are unprofessional and they do not know how to manage. They are running around like chickens with their heads chopped off, play people against each other (watch behind you if you go there) and you really do not want to go there. They do hire outside the U.S., almost everywhere actually-not just India, the Phillippines, but as far away as Australia. Their tech support is bad and the company could care less about those that work for them. On an up note, they pay on time. That's all I can say about them that is good. You would do better working for any other service that is around than working for them.
I have worked for 4 companies, including MQ now which have lowered pay.
it is the way things are now. This career is going to the dogs.
Just how many companies have you worked for? You seem to have comments on all of them, all negative
perhaps it's time to look in the mirror and fix what is wrong with YOU. You have such a negative attitude, I doubt you will be happy anywhere. Check the past few pages of reports and see how many posts this person has made about just about every company mentioned. SHEESH.
Can I ask who you worked for previously. It may have been on one of the accounts or companies I
worked for..When I went to work for that one and ended up making $9 an hour, I was so disappointed because I figured since I was a high producer at my other job and made big money plus I had experience and needed no training on the platform I was sure I would be doing well. I am more convinced than ever that they fix the line counts. They have to or there would not be the huge difference. Of note also was that the low paying one was the easiest. The account was a walk in the park so I really thought I'd make a great living as the other job was a lot of ESL etc. Boy, was I in for a shock.
With a few rare exceptions, the companies I have worked for
don't share worker names - so how do you know these other people work for Allstate?
I worked for one of the highly touted companies sm
and it was GREAT...until they went overwhelmingly to voice and took entirely too much work away from the traditional MTs to give to voice. This was after they told us it was a CHOICE, but little by little they are forcing the issue with their MTs. It is NOT a choice! They are APPEAR to be somewhat overstaffed at this juncture.
I need to keep my insurance and I do have the belief that this company will come to their senses and nix so much voice. I could be full of it, but I really think they will. They are a hop and a skip from the hospitals complaining because the editing is EXTREMELY poor on the part of the MTs doing it. Time will tell. You will note, this is not bashing the company so much as bashing poor MTs who can't actually do the job put in front of them.
My solution was to go and find another job at a place that didn't want to go to voice at all. I posted my resume on another site and within 24 hours, I was contacted, hired within 48 and scheduled for setup/installation within 72. We are working on some issues, but this seems to be a very nice small to medium company. They are only offering IC, but that is fine since I have the above as well. They are willing to give me all I can stand of what I want and have voiced being pleased to have found me. It is I who am pleased to have found them.
With the state of affairs in America right now with layoffs and what I believe is a deep recession and/or another depression on the horizon, I DO FEEL VERY FORTUNATE to have ONE job and I have TWO. I don't know any other profession where someone who is looking for a job finds one within 24 hours! It has happened to me the last 4 times I looked for work, PT or FT. You betcha I know I am lucky.
Yes, I have checked into and worked for several companies that use Escription and Transcend has the
best pay..now, they just need more work so if you have steady work, then I'd stay put.
How do you know there is high turnover? The companies I have worked for get new accounts. sm
They hire because of having more work, not because their current MT's are leaving.
Some of the companies hire constantly because of turnover but most do because of growth.
The BS that MQ has done over the past few years has opened up a lot of new business for many good companies and it looks like that will continue for a while until CBay either runs it to the ground or converts all the accounts they possibly can.
Speaking from experience.. you work all day and make nothing. I also have worked for other companies
on Escription and made a lot more.I just came to the conclusion that they do not pay for headers, footers, spaces etc.. I swear I would work 8 hours and be lucky to make $50. It was my first Escription account so when I changed companies I could not believe it. I make in a few hours what took me 10-12 hours to make at Focus. Dont waste your time. They design it so you dont make any money. What a waste of time working there.
Gee, I only make negative comments about companies I've actually worked for
and have the scoop on. I never said the line rate was high for this company, but nice fast software is what saves a good MT's line count. There are plenty of ESLs too, but no more than most acute care hospitals. So if you can't handle ESLs, you wouldn't want to work for TT (or most other hospital accounts). The new accounts are not teaching hospitals, which is good for me because I don't like doing residents. For now there is plenty of work and OT when you want it. So IMO a starting line count isn't the only important factor for how much money I can make, and certainly not the only factor in my job contentedness. They are fair and respectful and use good software, and those are the facts, not theories.
I guess I have been lucky to have worked for 3 great companies. The only problem with the 2 before
is that they both were sold to companies that were not U.S. only and I refuse to work for any company the sends work offshore.
I am happy at Keystrokes and know that others are too. I have gotten everything promised to me, even though I must admit that I do not ask for much. I just want to do my work and leave my desk when done and then get paid for what I did.
I hope you find a great company that fits your needs. It must be horrible to be burnt enough times that you have to doubt everyone. I feel like that in my love life (divorced 3 times).
I worked for a temp agency for 3 years..LOVED it. Just worked. No counts, no hassels, GREAT pay..
No benefits at the time. I even learned pathology while temping (8 months on that assigment). I loved the variety, the ability to say I'm not available such and such time. I'd do it again in a heartbeat if I didn't need benefits.
A company is ONLY supposed to verify that someone worked there, what dates they worked, whether PT o
and last date worked. It opens everyone up to a lawsuit if more is given, so most companies are told by their attorneys and business advisors to verify only.
No one has a right to a reference, only verification of employment.
It worked! Latest suggestion from DJ's email worked. nm

If I worked a longer day, I just put my regular shift, 3p-11p, or whatever. If I worked sm
an extra day, then I was told to fudge the hours around on the other days so it all came out to 40. I didn't really mind -- have learned not to expect overtime in this profession -- and I was happy to be able to work whenever I needed to get the lines I needed. However, them telling me directly to fudge on my time sheet would seem to be a violation of the wage and hour laws. I suppose it doesn't matter now if they do not even have enough work to make the minimum line count necessary. Several of the companies I thought were golden seem to have gotten a bit tarnished lately … sad.
TransTech and Medware, are these companies considered large, medium-sized or small companies? (sm)
TIA
Yikes.. That is only inline with companies like Focus and such. "Real" companies pay their MTs
decent rate. I make over 5 cpl editing. So, if I got that slap in the face, I'd be outta there.
Do the research...most companies, and not just MT companies, do not pay for maternity leave...
we get time off but not paid...and I really don't even understand the point of you posting this...
How do you know which companies are Nationals and which are smaller companies.
Is there a list somewhere? I'm new to this.
By "most of the companies", I meant MORE than MT companies.
clarification
Sten-Tel is the platform. Different companies use it, pay and how companies run are different. nm
:P
Best company I have ever worked for, and I have worked for a lot!
I can't believe some of the things these people say here, and have to wonder if it just the same person or two bashing. I have been at MDI for four years and I do not have a low workload and I get treated very, very well.
They one I am not sure of. I have always worked FT for them. I have worked both IC and employee
and I always did way over 12,000 a pay peroid. I am sure they are pretty comparative to other companies. You definitely could contact a recruiter by applying if they would answer all of your questions up front. Good luck.
Nobody said MT companies were not for profit companies. (sm)....
As MTs we are an important segment of what it takes for the company to thrive, but we are still just part of the whole structure.
Not trying to be argumentative, just think sometimes we get that "I'm the quarterback" attitude and forget that we can't get anywhere without our line men.
Companies that outsource to other companies?
Anyone know of any reliable companies that will outsource to American companies and pay a decent line rate? I am amazed at what the companies charge and then want to offer in this business anymore.
Worked for both
They both have their pros and cons. MedQuist is poor at communicating with their staff. Keep you in the dark, but they leave you alone and let you work. Spheris, on the other hand micromanages every minute of your time. If you stop to go to the bathroom without signing out, your phone will be ringing within 5 minutes with your supervisor wanting to know where you are. They are much better at communicating and support, though. You just have to pick your poison.
I worked for both MQ and S.
MQ SUCKS!!!! Spheris has better training, no rental fees on equipment, management and trainers who actually know what they're doing, a decent platform, and better pay. Those jerks at MQ threatened via $30 Fed Ex envelope to sue me for the equipment I had already mailed back to them, and I had proof of it with UPS tracking confirmation. And no, I never got fired from there. Besides all that, S isn't involved in any lawsuits and hasn't been delisted from NASDAQ like MQ has.
When I worked at MQ
Their "clinic work" was from Emory University and very, very difficult. It was in their clinics that they did drug studies, cancer research, surgeries, AIDS research with lots of ESL residents and doctors. It isn't like a nor doctor's office "clinic." They don't tell you that when you take the job.
worked for both
cherry picking (MDI) and they have to know what you are doing all day (TSI) "WHERE ARE YOU, WHY AREN'T YOU TYPING?"
OK, I worked for a different TSI.
I don't know about that one. I work for a very small MTSO with fewer than 20 MTs. It's my fit, but I'm not going to name names on the boards.
Worked for both.....
I worked for Spheris a while ago, they were very unprofessional in my opinion, disorganized and really didn't pay well, communication was almost nonexistant. My manager never even introduced herself and just really had a bad attitude in her email, which was her only contact.
I started with OSi about 6 months ago and couldn't be happier. Their platform is very easy to use and highly productive. I have never run out of work, pay is always on time and they are very flexible. I am completely happy with them.
worked for them?

This Worked For Me
You sound like you are in the shape I was in about 5 years ago with my hands. My doctor recommended high doses of Magnesium with smaller doses of Vitamin B6 with it. I took 2600 mg (all at one time) of Magnesium every day with 200 mg of B6. Within 3 days my pain was COMPLETELY gone and I've never had to wear braces again! Of course, I no longer take those incredibly high doses of magnesium daily, but I do stick to about 1000 mg a day with a 100-mg capsule of B6, and I've remained pain-free all this time. Good luck to you!! And by the way, my friend works e-bay as her full-time income and seems to be pretty content with it. :)
Have you worked for them before?
Just wondering if you have worked for them before and know how bad the accounts are. I dont want to get into a bad situation.
who had it when you worked on it?
?
Has anyone ever worked as an MT
Just applied with temp agency who is hiring for MT work. Don't know what to expect. I will be giving up the at-home job to do this job. I think. Just wondering would it be less money and demanding line counts, etc. I think it's close to home.
Has anyone here worked for JLG?
