The book contains suggestions. They don't write the rules

they merely published them in a format convenient for us to review - save your anger for the JAHCO and the American Medical Association.

Any suggestions
I am looking to make a switch- looking for 20 hours a week. I presently work for two companies, one I like so far (30+ days) uses ExText and the other one re-records and I dislike it more with every passing day (7 months) and want to replace it. Would prefer IC, 20 hours splitting up my week. Any suggestions?
suggestions for you CW
If you don't like my posts, dont read THEM.  K?  I mean no one said you have to read them, right?  If they bother you so much, may be you should just disregard them.
Thank you all for your suggestions!! I appreciate it! nm

Any suggestions? Need PT IC
Orthopedic clinic with flexible hours???
Thanks for all of the suggestions!

thanks for all the suggestions
The company pays better than most, so I have put up with it when I shouldn't have. I do appreciate all your comments. I will be addressing this with them soon. Guess I'd better have a backup just in case. Never thought of it as me paying them before now. Thanks for the obvious!
Any suggestions........

What does one due when they resign from a company, but still (after about 1 week), there is no acknowledgement from their supervisor.  Do I:

A.  Assume it was not opened?

B.  They are ticked off at me?

C.  Don't give a hoot.

D.  Most likely acknowledged ..will be calling soon.

E.  Just avoiding it...don't want to deal with it.

Any suggestions???
I'm looking for just a part-time IC position, but am not sure who to apply with.  If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.
I'm looking for suggestions regarding...sm

a company that supplies the computer.  I know every company is not a good fit for every person, but I would prefer a company that provides the computer... then I will start from there looking for the place that sounds like it will fit me.  Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

I have some suggestions :)
Check your local hospital/medical center(s) and see if they have overflow work available. I got my start as an IC after working inhouse at a medical center and then going home to work for them as an independent contractor. I've also worked for a few nationals in my 15 years as an MT, and most of them to require at least a ballpark idea of when and how much you will be able to work. After being an IC, and employee and in management, I know that they don't do this to keep you in a box, but to make sure that they don't overstaff at some times during the day and understaff at others. Check MTjobs.com, post your resume on Monster, etc., and make sure that you note that you're just looking for p.r.n./IC work and see if anyone bites. I bet they will! Good luck!
Not Sure What To Do...Any Suggestions?

I applied to MQ and took the test prior to reading all the bad reports about them on this site.  They now want me to do a phone interview and I'm not sure I want to.  I have also tested at another company, which I have found out after testing does VR.  I have no clue how to do VR and I'm not sure I want to given the rates and such.  Granted, they also do straight transcription and pay good rates for that.  I have not been asked for an interview yet, but I took the test in the last 12 hours or so.

I am a recent graduate from an AHDI-approved program and have been with my current transcription company since the beginning of the year.  I am currently employed part-time and like the company I am with, except the work load has slowed way down and am lucky to work at all some nights.  The company I was with prior to my current company was an American company but my contact people were in India and I hated working there.  To make it worse, it was verbatim transcription so every word was typed and they nit-picked with every um and ah.  I could not leave quick enough!

Basically, while I need to make a bigger paycheck, I also cannot sacrifice my sanity just to do so.   I have been sent my resume to lots of companies and gotten a few we are not longer hiring and you need more experience replies.  Should I stick it out until something comes along that I am comfortable with or should I go to another company with not-so-great reviews and risk being unhappy and not making it worth my while to be there?    Any suggestions?

And since you obviously know the rules
Did you miss the part about harrassing other people on the board?! Enough already, I think he/she got your point!
Not according to the rules of IC
No schedule is to be dictated. Nothing that even remotely suggests employee status is to be done with ICs.
What law? There's no law. There was a book (sm)
by a conservative that came out, which is what started this whole heightened nonsense over Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays. That book has effected a nice smokescreen to get away from the real issues plaguing the party, such as illegal wiretapping.
maybe in your book but not for an MT who is a

Can I ask..where you ended up?? Any other suggestions out there.

Boy, it's almost impossible to find a decent company these days..

Your suggestions would be welcome, Sue. Any ideas?

MT Week suggestions

I am the account manager for a smaller company.  We are wanting to recognize our MTs for MT Week.  Any suggestions from you as MTs, as to what you appreciate receiving during MT Week.  Thanks.

Thanks, any suggestions for a better company? nm
xx
great suggestions but........
I hate to say it, but I have come to the conclusion that the companies/managers/supervisors do not care. We are just a number for them. Most of them are liars, cowardly...........just flat do not care.
Thanks guys for your suggestions.
this problem with.  Yesterday I was even beginning to question if she has the correct MLS when she directs these corrections to me.  The work does not look familiar.  I'm making a good attempt at the suck up game :-) and saving all the emails.  I guess I'll give it a few more days and see how that works out.  I've just never been in this situation before so it's kind of an eye opener I guess.
only positive suggestions
are to:
Request secondary accounts if you do not already have them.

Keep asking, even different people, for more work until you finally get it.

Pick up a different PT job if all else fails.

Hang in there. I have gotten encouragement, and believe it will be better soon.
Banking rules indicate that you must have
concrete proof that the direct deposit is going in because things do happen.  If you have your paystub with the direct deposit amount and date on it, only then you can write checks and do withdrawals.  Otherwise, it's your fault.  It doesn't matter when pay usually comes.  We went round and round with both of our banks over this because DH's pay wouldn't show up sometimes since his supervisor had forgotten to send the paperwork over to the payroll department.  It didn't matter and we had to eat all the overdraft, NSF and check collection fees.  I was so ticked off at his boss, but DH would never let me go off on the lazy good for nothing.
As I recall, the IRS rules for IC ...
specify that if the company has or asserts control over any part of your working conditions, time, production, clients, etc, then you have to be called an employee and treated as such tax-wise.

This post goes against the rules and will probably get
deleted, but I'm make like a scratched CD and again state post you resume on the job boards, search the ads on the job boards.
That's the doctor's rules
They do the account the way the doctors want them done; I guess that's why they don't have a turn over of accounts so that we are constantly losing accounts and having to start over. They follow BOS unless it is stated in the instructions otherwise at the doctor's request.
rules of the board
Of course we all need to be able to vent our frustrations and state our opinions, whether everybody agrees with us or not. My problem with this board is the huge number of trolls who take every opportunity to wage a personal attack. That's taking freedom of speech to a level that interferes with other peoples' rights and I think there should be zero tolerance for it. Sure, state your opinion and argue if you wish, but leave the personal attacks and name-calling out of it. That's against board policy to begin with and too many people don't respect that rule. I realize of course that there's a problem with trolls on most web sites because unfortunately there's no shortage of lunatics out there, but I think the people in our field should be able to have discussions about issues and companies without some nut case using it as an excuse to exercise some sick need to be a bully. And yes, I'm name-calling but just about trolls in general, no particular person. These people need to grow up, get a life and realize how pathetic they are. And if such behavior continues to pop up on this site, the best thing anyone can do is totally ignore them. When you argue or try to reason with them, you're feeding their need and wasting your time. But my request to the moderator would be to immediately bar from the site anyone who breaks the rules concerning that type of behavior. It's not like they don't know they're not supposed to do it. They're just thumbing their noses at the rules and doing it anyway because that's what they do best.
I did not see any format rules.
As far as reformatting, I use macros to make formatting changes that seem to be frequently necessary.
change in rules
Do you have a contract with the specifics in writing? If so, threaten a lawyer to enforce it.
If not, time to get another job. You don't cover an MTSO's butt, do the junk shift and work type, then not get paid the agreed upon extra for that.

Talk about lack of business ethics.
I thought if you were an IC, you had no rules! nm

What are you writing, a book
x
About the book/tests - have you not ever sm
done any in-depth research into the field you are working in?  Had you done that, you would have probably ended up at the AHDI site at some point (creator of the BOS) or MTChat or here - references to BOS and tests come up daily.  How could you have been working and not know there was a BOS?
Re The Book of Style
Just a short note to say, you really need to learn the BOS, even if you don't think you need to, and no matter what anyone else tells you, for your own knowledge, you need to know the basics--the style basics. We all had/have to do it, you are not alone. It's all a part of the game. :)
I agree 100% with you. The book is sm
correct 99.9% of the time. Once in awhile you will find something wrong, but then you just write it in and change it. You never know on the internet. I don't think there is any substitute for sitting down with a book and doing research. I do understand that in this day and age it is not cost effective to do that. That is why I still believe that it is a disservice to MTs not to be able to work in-house for several years before going home!
with a book you wouldn't need sm
suggestions now would you. There would be an entry and it would be correct. Also there are still some places that don't do voice files through the internet so it wouldn't matter if the internet was down or not.

Obviously there IS A place for the internet but to say you can't or won't use books anymore is crazy!
Any suggestions on companies offering--
part-time or full-time 3rd shift radiology positions?
good suggestions...it is all about self-discipline..nm

Need employment suggestions from experienced MTs

The company that I am currently working for is great in every respect except one--it just doesn’t have enough work to keep me busy.

I’ve been with my current company for the past seven years, and after being in this business for 20+ years, I have no desire to start job hopping, so I thought I’d ask if any of you have any advice as far as which companies might be best for me to contact.

This is basically what I am looking for:

--Number one consideration:  A company that is willing to give top pay for a top transcriptionist

--Preferably full time employee status with good benefits package, but might consider IC if the pay is right

--Lots of work with little to no clinic (I prefer acute care, ER or radiology)

--Easy and personable support staff with good communication

--And hopefully, a company that doesn’t micromanage, but will leave me alone so I can get my work done

Anyone have any suggestions?  Please feel free to email me if you don’t want to post.  TIA
Suggestions for "on-call" job?
I'd like to work on-call for a company and work only as they need me when work levels are high.   I wondered if anyone had ever heard of any place that would be interested in hiring a PT person for this.
where are the great MT RAD jobs?? any suggestions where?
where to go for great Radiology MT jobs???
Great suggestions! I know many believe that their resumes SM

should be five pages long and reflect every single job they've ever had, but the truth is when trying to get an MT job, only your MT work history is relevant, and work history is only relevant once you've landed the interview.  Your resume should highlight your skills relevant to the position applying, any industry related organizations you belong to, etc.

Having said that, I created a separate document where I keep a complete list of every single medical transcription job I have held starting with the very first one.  I list company name, address, phone number, supervisor, and dates employed.  I created this document because when I went back to work for an actual hospital, their offer was based on years experience and I was told to provide them with everything MT job I've ever had so they could make the best possible offer.  So I now keep this document updated always just in case, but it never goes out with my resume and it only goes out when and if I am told my years experience has direct bearing on what kind pay they offer.

If an MTSO requests a references, I provide them with my three more recent employers and three personal references.  If they want proof of my 20 years experience, I happily provide them with my complete list.

Back in the stone ages when I was in high school, I took a course at the vo-tech school called office occupations.  It was taught by this little old fashioned lady who believed a woman should always wear a skirt and heels to work and fetch her boss coffee.  My teacher did, however, provide me with some useful tips that are still relevant today as far as resumes go.  She said your resume should only be one page long and its only purpose is to get you an interview.  It should grab a persons attention and make them want to know more.  So never give away too much info on the resume.  Your ultimate goal should always be a personal face to face or phone to phone (in today's world) meeting.

Anyway, that's my rambling for the evening.

one space - who makes up these rules?
What I would like to know who makes these new rules up?  The email said new national standard, something like that.  I mean, how can someone change Americas punctuation and English rules?  I was taught way back when, when I first was taught typing in high school..two spaces..who changed the rules?  Is there a *standards judge*, LOL..A *spacer judge*..Who thinks these things up and if it is national standard, do the other MTSO's know about it?
Hey, I don't make the rules - the client does! SM
This is what the CLIENT has told us. They don't want us "padding" with "This is" or adding extra words to make complete sentences. I'm as bound by these rules as the MTs!

Before posting on any board you should know the rules/
guidelines.   There is a link on the top of each page that tells you what you need to know and one of them is not to post account information.  No one is attacking you.  It is just common sense that you don't go around posting account information.
copy/paste is against the rules.. we were
from the onset to NEVER EVER copy and paste. If you are doing this you should stop it soon before they figure it out and you get in trouble.
Any company can set up any rules they want to. I have heard of a few
companies that dock you for errors. 3.5 to 4 cpl is about standard for VR from what I have seen.
BOS not written by God. Just some rules decided
