condescending attitude of US QA's. Some of them, you can't do anything right...one way today, contradicting themselves tomorrow. But then we have to remember the QAs are PAID TO FIND FAULT.

What I said above was not high and mighty.
Maybe this is why you feel I'm high and mighty because you sound very childish or not educated. I did not post the above to be demoralizing; I was referring to any MT thinking work is their property when it is not. If you work for a company whether it be employee or IC, you are doing their work not your work.
P/S: I'll ask my 14 year old son what does my bad mean? Maybe he can explain it to me because I am wondering if that is childish slang..
A little QA feedback for Ms high-and-mighty
You should take it a step further than simply pointing out the missing hyphen.
1. The first sentence is a hypothetical/counterfactual statement. It is missing its subjunctive verb, i.e. I will bet, I would bet, I'd bet, I'll bet.
2. The introductory phrase believe me requires a comma after it.
That same sentence is a bit of a run-on, so there are a number of corrections that could be made, short of making more than one sentence out of it (a more preferable approach to cleaning it up). Here are a few helpful suggestions to recast the monstrosity Believe me, I have been in this business for over 20 years, and I get these emails and resumes from girls who want more money, and they have all this experience but, when they are given the editing test, they cannot even pass. Commas have been added after me, years, money, but and test. Thay has been corrected to they. Let's not even try to talk about the lack of consistency in verb agreement within the same run-on.
3. Even with its corrections, it still sucks. An alternative suggestion would be as follows: Believe me, I have been in this business for over 20 years. I have gotten (keeping the verb agreement consistent) these emails and resumes from applicants (not the more condescending, master/slave girls reference) who want more money, and who say they have all this experience (eliminating the more awkward original transition). When they are given the editing test, they cannot even pass.
4. Next, we have another speculative statement which, again, is missing its required subjunctive verb, i.e., I would guarantee, I will guarantee, I'd guarantee, I'll guarantee.
5. …you would not pass my editing test, either. The missing comma appears where it belongs.
6. I was taught that we do not begin sentences with the word and. If she insists, then it would be: And, by the way, after a 30-day trial period, I do pay more. The 3 missing commas in that sentences now appear. Better still, start the sentence with By the way, ….
What I would do is send her the above QA feedback and state the obvious…that she failed to meet the minimum 98% accuracy rate and that she needs to go edit herself.
Um - Ms. high 'n mighty -- what happened to
I decided to stay put and look for a better job while still working. I've been looking for 2 years. No point in going with another at-home job for a national - just more of the same. If I'm going to fork out $400 a month for COBRA insurance while I change jobs, I want that change to be for the BETTER. Actually, I'm hoping to get out of at-home slavery, and back to an on-site job. In some parts of the country those still exist, but in my area they're almost nonexistent.
These people were LIED TO, by a company that up until the point that they were selling out, had apparently been quite honest and above-board with all their MTs. So no wonder they opted to believe what they were told and wait it out.
Don't sit in judgement of anybody until you've walked a mile or two in their shoes.
Which could happen, you know. Your company may be next.
Yes, it's all come down to the mighty TAT.
You know, their TAT data might look better if they'd fix their TAT time clocks! I timed mine on several occasions, and it's about 50 percent too fast.
For example, if you start a report that has 40 minutes on it, and you type for 20 min., you'll be out of TAT.
So why worry? It's wrong from the get-go.
Are you the mighty fast one who works for .07 cpl?
It's great that you manage to earn $20/hr on 7cpl. Just think of what you could earn in an hour at a company that paid you a decent line rate...
I'm high level 4, all acute care, high ESL, many years exp. and highest QA grades...
In case you are wondering...All acute care, all specialties. I request new accounts, and yet they all run out of work...not just during usual slow periods...
I'm original poster and a high level 4 as well with high ESL accts, which I've always had...sm
My accts (10+) for the previous 12 years were all in the LA area. I consider ESL at Webmedx easy, even though my WebmedX accts are supposed to be high ESL. ALL of my STMs accounts are low on work--quite low. I've added more accounts. Not helpful if all are low in work. My supervisor at MQ was more helpful than my Webmedx STM.
I'm feeling mighty depressed sitting here waiting on
.
VR will continue to improve just like
everything else in the technology age.
Bubbye, MT world.
But it's a blessing in disguise. Maybe now we can find jobs where we're treated with respect and get paid better than the average janitor.
Do you think things will ever improve if
people like you keep happily taking ANYTHING they throw at you? Why should they pay more or give us better working conditions when there are too many who will accept whatever they dish out with no questions asked???
They are not MT, but general transcription. Pay not very high. at least not as high as MT work.x
x
It's decent. They are always working to improve it.
You have to click to different pages to run searches and add copies, but the platforms runs pretty quickly. They do listen to the MTs in working towards perfecting it. It all takes time though. I've been with them for several months now and they have upgraded twice. I don't think you'll have a problem with it.
Overall they are pretty good but they could improve
the payroll department. Seems to be a lot of errors, you get your lost money eventually but they seem to take their sweet time about it.
There's a very simple solution to MTs that don't improve
You put them on warning after so many same mistakes and then if they continue to make the same mistakes, you follow through and LET THEM GO. End of sob story. As QA, part of the job is weeding out the inept. Why any MTSO would keep an MT that continually made the same mistakes and compromised quality to that degree is beyond me. Highly nonproductive and bad business practices, IMO.
Maybe you need to improve your (proof)reading skills.
The ad clearly states that she pays weekly. What is so wrong about being upfront about how much she is paying? If that is too low for some people, they do not need to apply and do not need to waste anybody's time. What is so wrong about being honest and asking for honesty? With this type of ad, you know from the start how much is paid and do not have to go through hours of testing just to hear how much they offer.
Amen to that. If things don't improve, I'll be forced out, too (nm0

Tee hee, love it, especiall "anything I can do to improve my dictation....Ha, Ha
nm
Even if VR quality does improve, if we refuse to edit overseas dictation, they will still... SM
have no choice but to keep the work here. Once again, we hold the key. Our destiny resides with us on this issue as well.
I think a lot of the high $$ MTs
produce the lines, but not necessarily the quality. I know lots of MTs who never do any type of proofing before submitting work. I used to work with one high producer, but the quality of her work was horrible. This was several years ago and no spellchecker and no QA. She would never survive in this business now with the error rate she had.
I'm sure there are some quality MTs that can also produce a huge amount of lines because they learn to work smarter and can type like a demon.
you ARE on the high end of
the pay scale and congrads to you!
It is NOT high ESL, no more than
nm
High ESL
I just want to point out that being a Transcriptionist should include learning to deal with ESL dictation. Obviously you should be compensated fairly for that, but the truth is being able to decipher different dictation is what makes us more valuable than a machine.
VERY HIGH ESL when I was there . . .
I struggled to make counts because the dictators were so difficult. I have a lot of experience with ESL, too. I liked her thought she was very nice, but struggled really bad with the ESL load.
high and dry?
What do you mean by high and dry. I know for a fact that you have a lead for this account, a coordinator, LOTS of samples, QA people who are available every shift - and very helpful. That doesn't even make sense. You sound like a disgruntled individual.
DRC Insurance very high - sm
I was offered a position with DRC and would have taken it, but family health insurance coverage was something like $900 a month! There is no way I could pay that much and I needed the benefits.
Jo, I think you're going to be all right. You have a high sm
QA score and you are increasing your production consistently on a weekly basis. It takes such a long time for an MT to be able to sit down and transcribe whatever comes through the queue and make good money. This is very tough work, and we all learn every day. You have what sounds like great work habits, terrific quality, and a wonderful attitude. You'll do fine.
If you are a high producer (400+ lph) do you have to
even after you make your line count at Spheris?
She used to pay by the page and not very high. Don't know about now. nm
s
I have their insurance now and it is rather high...however, (sm)
they are in the process of changing their benefits package so I'm hoping for something with a lower rate. I have single coverage and pay about $400 a month currently. I'm kind of waiting to see how much the new insurance is going to be.
There is insurance. Some consider it too high but they are getting sm
new insurance that is supposed to be lower in cost but better coverage.
I have the insurance they offer now, which is Unicare, and have no problems with it. I took out the family plan, which cost me $610 a month, but the insurance through my DH's company would have been over $800, so I am not complaining.
Seems to be about right. Not high, but normal. Thx! nm

High turnover.......
I live in New Jersey and this is a not a good company to work for....read the old posts about this company in the Archives. Not a good company....
Very high turnover....
They always keep running the same ad every 3 weeks or so, so that should tell you something about them. I did not like testing for them at all, so I just gave up! Horrible dictators.
This is like in high school where
Why are these companies wanting to have initials for their names? Do they think it will make them more popular? For example, TTS, TT, MQ, KS..... There are others doing the same, and looks like this one that doesn't pay wants to be FST now so they sound more important and fly under the radar as Four Seasons known as a nonpayer. Professional to me equals proper name, and isn't that what the BOS preaches? Let's be professional insteady of like small children with little nicknames that are like baby talk!
High horse
You make some good points but the vast majority of MTs don't apply to your condescending e-mail. Glad I don't work for you. You find some poor employees in any industry, and the few bad apples in the MT business are not the reason work is being sent overseas where the work is even worse quality (but done with a smile - I give you that). Whatever - I will just be glad when this post has moved on to another page.
I thought that was high too
They have to process it all and mail us our vouchers anyway, why charge just to mail out a check? I prefer direct deposit myself anyway, but I have a friend who had her identity stolen and was advised to close all her accounts and not open anymore for a year. If she worked for this place she would have to pay $100 a month, just to get paid.
Come down off our high horse
I used to have excellent credit too until my husband lost his job and I had surgeries 9 months apart. There are circumstances that do cause people to lose their credit.
Maybe some bad luck should hit you and then you would understand how some of us feel!!!!
We have 1 account that is high ESL
Out of several acute care accounts, there is 1 account with a high percentage of ESLs. When hiring for that account, management also makes it very clear regarding the ESLs.
I have been there 2+ years and I still love my job. They treat us with the respect we deserve. They expect high quality and they audit 3% of our work monthly. The platform is great and exceed the line count every pay period. We don't have to mess around with the demographics unless the dictator puts in the wrong MR# and then all we do is put the name and correct MR# if dictated.
Ok, that helps! Is there high
turnover or are they acquiring a lot of new accounts?
Come Down Off Your High Horse!!!
It sounds like you have spent too much time at the beach listening to the waves and in the sun as your brain is fried. Who do you think you are talking to anyone this way???
I have a good job, make good money and I always have work but your attitude is just right down horrible.
Since you don't spend much time here, I think you should just probably stay totally away if this is the kind of attitude you bring when you do decide to be here.
I don't see you on a high horse...sm
I agree with you 200%
i am not the OP, but I am high level 4, and all of my 4 SM
accounts are in OT now. My account is considered 70% to 90% ESL. So that is just what I have experienced here lately. I suppose you are right about it depending on the level and worktypes that you can do. Definitely talk to the STM, as they are always willing to help you out if they can. Good luck!
Get off your high horse already
I have researched anything and everything I have ever delved into thoroughly before jumping on it. If a newbie jumps right in without researching first, it is their own dang fault. Geez.
I believe it is at least 90%, possibly as high as 98%...nm
x
You are on a very high horse
Might want to come on down and sit in the horse stuff with the looser MTs....waaaah
High five! You tell 'em!
That's just what I was thinking.
In high school
my very first typing class (and we were talking the 1960s, Remington manual typewriters) one of my fellow students, who had never touched a typewriter before, was effortlessy typing 100 WPM within a week. Just a natural talent, I guess. Not a talent I possess, apparently. I am in awe of anybody who can do this!
Well, come down off that high horse
you seem to be on. Where do you get that Now Let Me Tell You Something. First of all, who are you and what does it matter. You talk like that to your kids, not to another grown person. Sissy, go back to mothering now, ok? More experienced MTs know the 3 day leave for a funeral, newbies seem not to know.
VR was so efficient and my pay was so high I ...
but not at TT, different company. Jobs were eliminated due to VR coming online at a hospital.
High production isn't the problem.
The problem is not getting everything you just said you'd expect from a company if you're a high producer and working extra. Sorry, but I'm sick and tired of hearing that my wages are my reward. I'm a high producer and my wages shouldn't have to be my reward when someone else is getting the same for giving less and having less skill. That's the problem. You're new, let's see what you're posting in 3 years when you're earning half of what you earn now. High producers don't produce as much in VR as average producers and that's a fact.
How high does the daily incentive go? Please.
Thanks.
