Thanks for your honest reply. Unfortunately, I have also worked in the medical insurance billing

side of it and I see how our prices go up and how the insurance companies pay the doctors less and less, yet these insurance carriers gouge people with their ridiculuous preminums. I understand insurance companies having to raise rates due to skyrocketing health care costs but the kicker is the insurance companies are only allowing a fraction of the billed charges anyway. If they were actually paying out all these claims at full, I could understand the rise in preminums. Well good luck to you and do not think about it, pooping blood does not sound healthy at all and would call for a colonscopy and then a huge bill and then another rise in your preminum. Vicious cycle I tell ya.

I applaud your honest reply. You will go far with your honesty! sm
I observe many coming on this board and bashing companies, but never once blame their lack of skills for not being happy or quite yet competent to do the work. We were all new MTs at one time. Hang in there and keep working hard; you will be rewarded. I just had to say how refreshingly honest your reply was. No, I don't work for Spheris.
Thanks for your honest reply. Trusted my instinct
and my instinct does not want me stressed out in the least. Does not make for a good work environment. Will stay where I am. Thanks again.
To be honest I would not like my health insurance riding on MQ with having to produce this and that
as they do have a nack of running people out of works and onto multiple accounts. I feel much safer carrying my own health insurance as an SE and not having to worry about MQ coming up with some other quirk in the future and you have to scramble for health insurance.
I worked for Spheris for quite a while. Honest answers inside. sm
Their rate of pay is pretty average, compared to other companies. They way they count their lines is fair and honest, no matter what you might hear from others. Depending on who your supervisor is, the schedules are somewhat flexible. Some supervisors are pretty lenient with the schedule, and others are very rigid. Overall, the people there are pretty nice. If you're just basically looking for a company where you can go in, get your lines done, and walk away, they're probably a good fit for you.
But there are definitely bad points, also. There's not much in the way of feeling like part of a team. You pretty much feel like just another number to them. If don't give them what they want in terms of lines or overtime or whatever, you'll definitely hear about it. They love to ask for you to work extra or switch your shift to accommodate them, but they don't generally feel like paying back the favor. They're famous for turning down PTO requests for no particular reason, no matter the reason for the request. The recruiter will promise you there's plenty of opportunities for advancement, but really there aren't. I've known gals who have worked their butts off for them for years and still haven't gotten anywhere. The only way to get a raise is to move up in levels of difficulty, and the levels that pay the most per line are the accounts that have tons of ESL's and lots of very difficult report types, with sometimes pages of really crazy account instructions that have to be followed.
In my opinion, if you go with Spheris, you'll make the most money if you take on a medium-level account, probably with more clinic work, where there aren't so many ESL's and not so many crazy instructions, because if you can crank out the reports at 6 or 7 cents a line, you'll make more money than struggling thru accounts that pay 9 cents a line but are terrible to type.
Worked PT for a while a few years ago. Very honest MTSO who has had her accts

Do you mean to say you have medical insurance etc??
Thanks for any information.
Medical Insurance
I was wondering if anyone can recommend a company that has medical insurance for its employees. The company I work for now has just screwed us on the medical insurance and I am looking elsewhere. Thanks. NM
Medical Insurance
I just want to remind everyone that the insurance coverage with a a company is very important, especially when single. Do ask about the deductible. Due to medical crisis, I faced 10 grand in medical bills which only added more stress to a very stressful situation. And, that basically takes 10 thousand off my yearly income.
Good insurance coverage means so much, especially when there is not a secondary ins. in place.
Just wanted to share this. :)
I don't take the medical insurance either BUT
Their other benefits are phenomenal. They provide LTD, STD, flexible spending account, 401K with match and they pay your vision insurance for the family. They have an awesome PTO rate and you get paid for downtime IF you run out of work, which doesn't happen very often. I can't remember the last time I was out of work.
Is the NWU offering medical insurance again?
I had great insurance at a great rate through them years and years ago, then they dropped it because the cost was prohibitive. If they are offering it again, I applaud them. They are a good union and very unconfrontational, well spoken (guess that's a mute point, eh?) but still don't have the big bucks it would take to promote the MT industry on the level that is needed. Almost every American MT would need to join and NWU would need to find a lobbying group to help.

Employee Medical Insurance
Are there any national companies that pay the full premium for employee medical coverage or is this only offered if you work outside the home? Thanks.
That is so NOT the purpose of medical insurance. nm

How are the medical insurance rates?
Did they go up too? They were interested in me a couple of months ago, but I did not call them because I had already picked someone else. I know they are great, but did their insurance rate for employee and children, or family go up like everyone else? I am considering contacting them again. Although I don't want to change jobs at all, if their rates are good I won't have to spend most of my paycheck on medical. Please someone let us know here. It is an important issue!
Zylomed Medical Insurance
Can anyone who works for Zylomed who has employee status give me some info on how their medical insurance benefits are? Thanks!
So if you have a medical claim, the insurance - sm
doesn't pay anything until you've forked out the first $2,000? That's appalling!
They don't pay for vision unless you have medical insurance.
When I first started they paid for vision, but unless you get medical coverage it is no longer free, unless it changed with the enrollment that is going on now.
reply to Worked There...
I absolutely agree with you. I likewise had to re-transcribe almost the entire report in order to make heads or tails of it..and still it was rated as an edited job and was paid at the edit rate (less than if transcribed), even though I really had to completely re-transcribe it!! Yup, they left me waiting on IM and kept telling me to wait 1 sec !!! Hello, I don't think so! And yes you are right too about how they want you to learn to transcribe WRONG. It's funny you say that you had to make yourself notes....I too had to make notes for how to transcribe WRONG for them, and even went so far as to make myself a poster board because I was going crazy trying to keep all their nutty wrong-rules straight!!! Whew..what a relief to be done with them!!
Medical insurance isn't about feelings. It's business. nm

Keystrokes is hiring. Can anyone tell me how much for their medical insurance benefits etc...
I am looking for a FT job with good medical benefits for either myself or family coverage. They are seeking ortho MTs and that is right up my alley. Thanks in advance for any help.
How is Transcend/MDI's medical insurance plan for employees?
Thanks
MDI-FL. thinking of applying. Is medical insurance still high? That is what has stopped me before
I cant remember what the cost was but it seemed to be be high for single and family coverage. Anyone know?
Isnt their family medical insurance kind of high. I think that is
why I passed on them previously and they only wanted to pay 7.5 cpl for 12 years of experience.
Survey - What type of medical insurance does your company offer?
Just curious about which company you work for and what type of medical insurance they offer. HMO, PPO? Cheap or expensive for you?
I agree. As medical insurance biller/coder/transcriptionist
I agree with the other poster. You're better off going with a group plan than on your own. Largely, because you pay the same premiums across the board as everyone else on your plan. When your on your own individual plan, I was scared to use my or have a new diagnosis because come renewal time, your premiums are adapt to go up staggering and there is nothing to can do about it, other than drop them and then you are in a worst situation. Yes, group insurance premiums usually go up every year but it's nothing like what will happen to if your on your own. Also, you do get a contracted adjustment based on your insurance's contracted allowable rate. Say your visit is $100 and the contracted rate/allowable through the insurance is $75, that means the doctor has to write off that $25 according to their contract.
Is there anyone else struggling to get the lines needed at Transcend for medical insurance? sm
Or is it just me?? TIA
MDI-FL. Last time I checked their medical insurance for families was expensive. Has that changed or
is it supposed to. I know at one point a recruiter told me they were working on making it more affordable but I never heard anything more. That is a big factor for me. I need affordable insurance for my family. Thanks for any input.
Heard Keystrokes was getting better benefits, medical insurance etc.. Anyone care to elaborate? I
ready for a change.
Transolutions? Anyone know how good their medical insurance benefits are, costs, etc..specifically
family coverage. They say you only have to work 32 hours to be eligible so I'm curious what their benefits are like. Thanks
Medware- Ballpark figure for cost of their family medical insurance. NM

Has anyone worked for prn Medical Transcriptiion Services, Inc?(sm)
I'm wondering what they use for a platform and what it entails. I see they have an ad on the job board but no general info as to what platform they use other than needing a USB foot pedal. Any info would be appreciated. TIA
Try First Choice Medical (in Florida). When I worked for it, sm
they required a minimum of 30 minutes of dictation per day. You pick the days. Pay was good. Staff was great!
I remember Medical Records Corporation, worked there, SM
then it became something like Medical Records Group and then Medquist. It kept going down, down, down..... Sad.
Another example of the "bizarreness" is when I worked for our regional medical center
Nicholas who was clearly of Indian descent kept faxing and calling the transcription department of our hospital wanted to submit a bid to do our transcription. The manager politely declined but he continued to call EVERY day..I guess to see if she'd wear down. She then faxed them an official stop contacting us letter but it continued. Finally, she had the hospital's attorney send them a final notice in regards to legal action and they called after that. Honestly, at that point, I came home so I dont what ever become of it. I know it blew our minds. It must be a cultural thing.
Has any worked for QT Medical for radiology? They got an account that I was working sm
on for another company and I want to apply, but cannot find anything about them. I am currently with Peachtree and am tired of being an IC and I need steady work. Can you give me any good, bad or other information? TIA
Has anyone heard of or worked for ACES Up Medical Services? nm
x
Well, maybe you should change your billing practices.
I have a hospital account that I bill every week and am paid the following week - never late!
As an IC or MTSO you have the right to bill whatever way fits into your accounting/bookkeeping techniques.
Just a thought!
Congratulations! Did you also go to school for billing? (sm)
I only ask because I've been an MT for 20+ years and want to switch to billing. There is a company 2 miles from my house that does billing and is always hiring. I have never submitted an application because I don't have any training in billing, just MTing. TIA
TypeToo Transcription & Billing
Anyone know anything about this company out of California?
Anybody familiar with Transcription & Billing (T&B)? TIA. nm
nm
You know, improper billing etc and now losing accounts.
Does anyone know of any large billing agencies that are for sale?
If you are aware of a large ($1million + annual revenue) medical billing/transcription agency/company that is for sale. Please reply here or email me.
Tired of the MT paycuts; wondering how hard it is to go to billing or file clerk or something!! nm
And that would be an honest day's work for an honest day's pay. LOL.
Typical transcriptionst. :)
whups - sorry, reply to wrong "who wants to be" reply
if I only had a brain...
Again, sorry to BTDT.
I meant billing process, not bill paying process.. sorry! nm
401k funds are protected by govt insurance similar to the insurance
that banks have (FDIC). It is safe even if the company goes under.
The insurance cost is double for Transcend but insurance probably doesn't factor in for her.
I have heard more good things about Axolotl than Transcend, although it seems Axolotl may be less flexible with your schedule and someone told me that QA was pretty strict, which should not matter either if you have worked for a hospital and know what your QA score is.
The insurance plan in my opinion is excellent insurance. I am not sure if it will change when it'
time to renew or not. I really hope not but I know that a lot of companies change every year in an effort to keep costs down because most insurance companies start raising rates after you have been with them a year. The insurance is Great West and they also have excellent dental and vision plans. I believe the cost is less than $70 a pay period for the employee.
Insurance sucks compared to my old insurance... sm
The insurance seems like they don't want to cover anything, even simple prescriptions I used to pay 4 or 10 dollars on I now pay 20 to 43 dollars. I like the company/people so far, just don't like the insurance.
um, only 1 harsh reply; the other 3 were in reply to the 1
nm
Thank you for being so honest!
I work for MDI-FL and I know they post on here but I don't say anything on here that I have not said to them or would say to them. Honesty, it's an amazing tool, huh? Again, thank you and good luck to you!
