In Reply to: What's with all the IC positions I'm seeing lately? - TechSupport

One thing I am concerned about is that many small to mid-sized companies are dropping their insurance and benefits because they are too expensive. I have a friend who works for one such company and she is terrified that the company she works for is going to go that route and make her an IC. She has a kid and that is their only source of insurance. I wouldn't put it past some of these MTSOs to do anything.

But it's not just the SR, TechSupport

Like you said, the costs of the new technology are tremendous to the MTSOs.  We MTs also have skyrocketing costs.  What other industry can you think of where the employee, not IC...but employee, provides their own workplace, their own desks, their own computers, their own reference materials, their own printers for the tons of paperwork that needs to be signed and returned, their own ink, pay for their own internet, their own phone, etc.? Keeping up with the latest reference materials and the BOS DE jour costs money.

Cutting the line rate for SR is one way the MTSOs cut our throats.  Have you noticed the new trend where more and more MTSOs are only offering IC positions...and that at 7 or 8 cpl???  Another thing that seems to be catching on with MTSOs now is that if they DO offer employee positions, you have to have a quota of 15,000 lines per 2-week pay period to qualify for bennies.

I still cringe when I think of our last conference call when our TL was blowing the company's horn and telling us all about the record profits for the last 2 quarters, how the company is strong, and how there were all these new accounts coming on board and how we should be proud of ourselves for making the business what it is.  Wasn't even a month later we hear that it's all going to SR at 3.5 cpl.  What a nice reward for our hard work, huh?

Thank you TechSupport......

Can I work for you, TechSupport???
I wish all of the supervisors I have ever dealt with in my life - both in this field and out of it - had been like you.
TechSupport - you have definitely restored my faith in anything or anyone

related to tech support - don't care if it is only your posting name;-)  You give some very valuable advice.  THANK YOU.

I cannot believe, however, that it has come to this while we work in our home offices, generally on our own computers, trying to make a decent living.  Good Grief, Charlie Brown.
