I heard a year or so ago that Chestnut Hill Hospital in Phila. was hiring in-house MT's
.
Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia is hiring - nm

that was supposed to be "I believe..." (I was starting
oops.
I am starting my second year, but
I only made 9,500 last year working full time, mostly on editing. Rotten, huh? I expect to do better this year and really hope to find a better company to work for too.
We are hiring for 4 right now but there are 20 in the next month to two months starting. No making
nm
Do you think maybe that is why they are starting this plan in the beginning of the year. That may
indicate change in type of employee. We shall see. Dont know why I think things point to no SE anymore just a gut feeling. There has been talk off and on about a merger with MQ and Spheris so I just connected the whole thing as MQ seems to be moving closer to how Spheris operates all the time. Seems that way to me anyhow.
It's just that time of year. Everything is starting to pick up though. nm

Old MT - I know of another hospital hiring sm
if you are interested.
Our hospital still uses them and they can't be that antiguated as our system was purchased 2 year
I think the quality is much better than tapes. It is the same as talking on the phone. I also work part time for a service on two accounts that use a c-phone and I only need one phone line.
Yes, still hiring. They are adding two more hospitals before the end of the year and are looking
for like another 30 or 40 MTs.
Do you recommend starting with clinic notes or acute care when just starting in the MT field?
!I realize this question may be better suited for the new MT board, but this board is my favorite)
I am considering accepting an acute care position, even though I am just out of MT school. However, I don't want the learning curve to be so steep that I fail before I even begin. I would also like to have a smaller pool of dictators to transcribe from as opposed to many.
Also, are there more ESLs in acute care versus clinic/dr office work?
What has your experience been? Would you do it differently?
Thanks for any insight!
What happened regarding cancer? nm
x
That is a disease just like cancer
Would you say the same if that were the case? People like you are despicable.
Yes, I decided on becoming a cancer registrar!
.
The rumor I heard was that a person with cancer
worked at MQ and got fired for not meeting line counts due to chemo. Do you think the company would verify?
Risking cancer spread waiting on ins
I was saddened to read that you are risking the potential spread of cancer by waiting for your insurance to cover testing and treatment.
First, I think the 12-month waiting period would make it Dec 2009 rather than 2010, but, still, waiting til Dec 2009...geez...I hope you reconsider what the consequences are.
You might check into other options for paying for testing/treatment, including extended payment plans, public or private financial assistance, loans, whatever it takes. This is your health and your life that you are risking by delaying. Is that worth the price?
I'm thinking about all the people who have lost their lives because an otherwise treatable cancer was not caught early enough.
I'm sorry for your situation and hope I haven't sounded preachy. Just hope you will reconsider your options. Best wishes.
Ham sandwich and lung cancer vs 100K. Tough choice.
:)
I have been to SA and the UAE and, let me tell you, there's a lot more respect for the MTs there than in the good 'ol USA.
Westerners are not held to the same standards as locals when it comes to dress and custom. You don't have to wear a full-on face shroud or eat dog or whatever. Just show some basic common sense decency. You'll be assigned an escort if, for some reason, you need to go somewhere at night or want to go to a certain part of town out of the American neighborhood. (Great little market, for example.)
It's like this:
In Hawaii, I hardly ever wear anything but cut-off shorts and a bikini top. And I don't stand out because most of the people I'm hanging out with wear the same sort of thing. But if I was to go to Manhattan and apply at a Fortune 500 company as a receptionist, do you think I'd wear my cut-offs? No. Everyone would say, 'cover up.' And rightly so. I really wouldn't have a problem with understanding, or adhering to, the dress code.
So maybe wearing jeans and a tee in SA would be akin to wearing cut-offs and a bikini top to Wall Street. It's just not respectful or acceptable. But who can't deal with that?
For anyone who enjoys learning about other cultures, and who can muster up the standard level of respect we show to other cultures even in America, I would heartly suggest being open minded to this type of offer. Heck, I'd go if I were 10 years younger. (If just for the opportunity to hang out and party in Dubai.)
Diskriter off off offshores - and on some hospital accounts - they have not informed the hospital

Jewish is the main hospital, St. Mary's is another hospital under their management. (nm)

my first year I made 16k. Doubled that second year. Going on year 6 with (sm)
two local accounts I earned 23,000.00 and a national I earned 35,400... 58,400 this year. Don't ask me how many hours, though, I really have no idea. I'm pretty motivated. (When people ask me how many hours I work a week I reply as many as it takes I'd say 40-50/week. I am also a fitness instructer and personal trainer, about 5 hours a week or so. Decent money (sometimes under the table!) but mostly I just do it for fun and to be social and wear cute work-out clothes.
that first year was a rough one... but I consider it part of my education.
I'm pretty motivated.
First for hospital, then outsourced still on same hospital work
and believe it or not, the hospital was so much easier. Had worked at the hospital for 11 years before they outsourced and then worked another 3+ years for the company they outsourced to. What a difference! The company had so many rules and regulations you could hardly keep up with them all, thousands of them, on the same account, mind you. The higher ups would not leave you alone, constant IMs about any and all. I have gotten to the age where I do not need all that and walked the other week. Have scheduled testing with another hospital for this month. Hope I make the cut, love the hospital work 1000 times more than a company.
Last year, there was a letter sent that told us what we earned the previous year. sm
In the past, it has been all or nothing; if you did not hit the lines for full time for the year, you did not get PTO. I talked to my lead this morning about a last-minute vacation and she told me that the yearly packets are going out in a week or so and that the new policy will acrue PTO by the pay period or month. I like that a lot better, but she also made it sound like they are upping the amount of lines needed to acrue PTO. I normally get between 15 and 20,000 lines per pay period, so I am sure that will be fine but I am worried about the periods that have lower volumes, like most of January every year.
Webmedx lets you carry them from year to year sm
You can accrue up to 140 hours (I think) before you stop the accrual process. Don't have to use it all in one year.
I would stick it out, most places are slow now through the end of the year every year (nm)

Maybe MQ is over hiring now in preparation for something. Must be some reason they keep hiring when
some people have not work.
why is it not supposed to be done?
I'm in the same situation and just wondered why it shouldn't be done if this had been your primary source of work, thus your bread and butter for several years and was suddenly gone. In my case, it's neither the company's nor my fault, so I was seriously considering doing this, but if there's some legality involved here, I would really be interested in hearing about it. Thanks.
Yes they do, yes it is, and yes it is supposed to be. lol nm
xx
What's that supposed to mean?
You posted your age? Should I care? :)
Were we not supposed
nm
What you are supposed to do is SM
call the help desk and ask for more work. Have you done that?
NO, we as MTs are NOT supposed to know...s/m
'the difference between generic and brand'. We are only suposed to know if it is capped or not.
And this we know only when we look it up.
Some we remember, the majority we forget, then we look it up again.
BTW: What do you mean by 'difference in generic or brand.'
The definition of this can be given in ONE sentence.
?????????what is that supposed to mean??????
x
So are you supposed to type
the wrong numbers? 1,2, 3,5, 8, 10??? How stupid is that?
I am not going to send things like that to QA.
Also when I know how a medication is spelled I am supposed to leave it in wrong and flag everything like that?? That is crazy.
Yes verbatim to a point when common sense comes into play use it. QA does not need stuff like that sent to them.
should be ...a new account right now that is supposed to be really big....
xxxxxx
I don't understand this. You are supposed SM
to be on full QA when you first start, just like all the other jobs I've had. The limit you can type every day is like 5 reports or something like that and you're supposed to stop and wait for the feedback. Were you just typing anyway and didn't care? It never occurred to me to keep typing. I did my reports, waited for my feedback (which came before the start of the next day's shift) and then did 5 more. I was taken off full QA in 2 days and then the amount I could type was not limited. Again, I just don't understand a post like this one. I understood from the policy I read when I was hired and then when I trained I was reminded of the limit.
and the best I recall, we were supposed
to save all of our logs and periodically send them to our team leader. I had so many binders when I left them after a very short time, I had one whole shelf full of them. Everything negative I have read about this company has been absolutely true from my experience. They sound good ....
You are supposed to clock in and out sm
In order to get any bonus money, which is paid according to Lines Per Hour (LPH), you NEED to clock in and out for everything. It makes for a very long day, turning 8 hours into sometimes 10 or even more. I don't clock out to look up words or to go to the bathroom but do clock out for anything longer than 15 minutes. I think PTO starts from day one.
Thanks, but not a M-F person. Just supposed to be off.
nm
Thank you! The average is supposed to
be 1500 per day, but each person, as well as account vary! No one should mislead others into thinking they are going to get rich quick. Anyone making above 1500 lines a day, I am happy for you. That is very good.
Is this supposed to attract MTs??
Any MTSO who consistently relies on pay from clients to pay their MTs is in BIG trouble. That company will have a high turnover and/or get sued and reported to the BBB. Why is this commonsense business practice - having credit and/or backup funds to pay staff - so often ignored in this industry?? Because you all (MTs) stand for it and give the benefit of the doubt, i.e., MTSO will get new clients who are better paying.
Supposed To Call
I had already tested and was offered a position via email. They were supposed to call me on Friday to discuss the account, but then emailed me and said that they were unable to make the call and would have to call me on Monday. It's now Thursday and I still haven't heard from them.
So, I've already accepted a position with another company.
Their loss...
I hear they are supposed to
be good about it, and kind. I am starting sometime next week, how about you? Are you starting with them also? FT is 1100 per day (5500 per pay, I think), and PT employee status is 500 per day, 2500 per pay, wich is what I will be doing. Just fed up with FT anywhere anymore.
while it's supposed to stand for that
I use my imagination and have come up with some really good and oh so appopriate ones!
D--- h---
Think about it. LOL
Any KS's tell me what report I am supposed
to send at end of every shift? ');>
Thanks!
Here we go again! These boards are supposed to be here for HELP
and not for constant company bashing by someone who so obviously has an axe to grind for some reason. I for one am so sick of this!
How is someone supposed to know who offers the best
medical benefits? Unless you have worked for every company you don't know how one compares to the other. If you have no pre-existing conditions and are in good health you are better off to get a private policy. Deductible might be higher, but your premium is less and with the money you save on premium you could put money away for deductible.
If you get a private policy you aren't tied to a company because you need the insurance.
My company is supposed to have a QA
team that is very strict and I've never gotten anything less than 99.8, minimum is 98.5 and most companies require 98%.
Mine either. Are we supposed sm
to end up getting ECT so the job stops affecting us?
Oh man, I am supposed to start with sm
Keystrokes soon. Not another company out of work :(
And we're supposed to do what? Beg you - OH PLEASE STAY!?
delusions of adequacy at its finest
that was supposed to read "oncology too"!
