bill and they have the right to say how their work is to be done. If one MTSO will not do it their way, then another will. An MTSO cannot dictate to the client how they will do the work, it is the other way around.
Heartland will sell accounts, because when it is done overseas the cost for the client is cheaper

Why move all the work for Heartland overseas, are the MTs overseas that much better?
Why? Why do this. It is my understanding that in time that work will be coming right back. Are the overseas MT's in Banglador or wherever better. Don't the companies that offshore worry about the quality of the work, HIPPA issues, patient's confidentiality, etc. Why don't they care? Mark my words, those MT's are not better than us, they have US editors, etc to help them out. They cannot land a new account US-based and compete with any US mt's. What a sad day. I pray for all the Heartland MTs.
Has anyone ever found out their account went overseas and were you asked to proof it. Just curious
since it seems like a lot of them are sailing across the ocean.

Told them employer. She asked 3 times for the hospital I transcribe for on behalf of the employer. Thanks for confirmation. Glad I didn't get hired...shame on them...they offshore anyway...
Yes they do send work overseas and do not hide this fact. There is plenty of work and they do pay
well. Overall, I like having work as I have been at places where you had to fight to keep busy so this works for me.

I agree - these companies and hospitals supporting to send work overseas make it sound so wonderful - cheaper rates and fast TAT. BUT have you ever read some of the work that domestic/US MTs and QAs have to repair? So the hospital gets a break on the costs from the MT Companies but who has to fix the mess? I frankly do not want my medical records going off to India to be incorrect when it comes back. I remember one in particular where the overseas MT put PORN instead of PRN. How would that patient like to see that in their record? I hope the new administration imposes fines to heavily that it will stop these companies from supporting overseas companies and give the work back to the US MTs - we need jobs here too and we should be taking care of us first ! Remember those cheap rates - you get what you pay for ! I remember getting a good salary and even Christmas bonuses 10 years ago but those days are LONG gone now.

There is no reason for me to lie about this.
I am NOT talking about offshoring, but the company whom they outsource to may offshore . . . I have no idea about that. But straight from the horse's mouth, they have outsourced to a small MTSO before.
You can notice how the work dries up all of a sudden when they turn it over to the service and we have no work.
TT mgmt may not tell that they outsource today, but they definitely told me about 9 months ago when I asked when the work was low. From the way the jobs disappear occasionally, I think it happens quite often.
I know, I know Medquist sends work overseas....but there is always work :)

When you are trying to be one of the top 3 International MTSO's you buy every company that you can buy that makes sense financially after due diligence has taken place. Believe me - if a purchase is in the works, you won't hear any corporate announcement until the ink is dry on the paper (or the paper is torn up), which will be way after the word is leaked to the street. If SPI is trying to acquire other MTSO's to get into the ring with the big boys - so be it. There isn't anything any one of you can do about it except keep your head down and your line counts and quality up. Quit fretting that your work is going overseas. Transcription is going global. It's a fact, not a fear. A great MT is a great MT wherever his/her chair happens to be.

I really wonder how much cheaper it is to send work overseas. When you
think about it, IC here gets about 4 cpl for VR and about 8 or 9 for straight typing. Overseas they have to go through a middle man or whoever owns the services and you cant tell me they arent getting a decent cut of the cpl and paying 3 cpl or so to their people. Just my thoughts. I bet the cost is very close anymore to what we earn. I see Delta is bringing its reservation call service back here from India because of all the complaints from US customers. I would expect it is the benefits here for employees that causes a problem costwise for MTs.

Don't you think we have enough people right here in the US without jobs? Instead of paying a decent wage for an MT, companies get greedy and undercut our workforce of extremely talented and hard working MTs of which a large percentage are single moms.

Those MTs work their schedules. Ask any MTSO or management of a national transcription company, and you'll find out it's like pulling teeth to get MTs with good work ethic to actually work the hours they are contracted to work. This is another reason that overseas transcription is used.
You may not believe me, but this *is* a growing trend in the MT industry. MTs that are both skilled and have a good work ethic are a rare find. I don't understand why - perhaps it is so many new MTs expecting working at home to be a walk in the park. I've definitely seen a downward spiral in the past 10 years.

least sound a little more spirited. Yes, you were all sold out down the river to a company who 100% promotes offshoring and who will gradually turn more and more work over to India. You are going to support it, though, because you feel you can't take a risk. You are damning yourself and our industry. Stand up and say something about it. I did and I was the last one who could afford it. Its just nauseating that people literally sell their souls and their children's souls and our country's souls for just the pittance of money we make as MTs. Get a backbone or at least don't sugar coat your decision. You are now a sell out.

You say that just because someone has great things to say about a company, this does not make them a cheerleader. Okay, I can give you that. However, just because someone posts negatives about a company, this in turn does not make them a liar, troublemaker or a troll. Why are people so blind? YOU may very well have a great experience there but that does NOT mean that everyone there does. We do not always get treated the same and if we don't, it doesn't always mean that it is because of a poor job or work ethic. I am sick of people acting like they know everything about their company.

If you dont get off the minute the hospital asks, even if you have no idea that they have requested that your to be off, then the hospital MTs steal your work right out of your queue and I mean reports you have already done. I dont understand the concept of having a contract with a hospital and then having to fight for work with the hospital MTs. We should have guaranteed work during our shift and enough of the the hospital wants you to help right now and then a few hours later they want us to stop working as the work is too low. It is crazy and I couldnt work like that so I had to quit.

The client will not know how their work gets done. A contract is negotiated and
line rate agreed upon. End of client involvement. I have never seen a contract where the client specifies exactly how the work is to be done. The client just wants the work done timely and accurately. At that point, the MTSO can either hand the work over to MTs they are paying 8 to 10 cpl to transcribe or they can run the dictation through the VR server and have it transcribed and then edited for much less. The client still pays the agreed upon rate, but the MTSO makes a much greater profit by cutting MTs pay by half and asking them to edit.

To whoever said they were hired, and then no work. Nobody showed up for work. I hired Carol (for the 2nd time), sent her work assignments, and again I woke up with no work, just excuses why she could not work, again the second time. In fact, several Transcriptionist (the same ones over and over) keep answering the ad, and then never show up for work.
As for 26 surgeries, yes. Got the operative reports and scars to prove it.

Not thankful for now work -- creditors do not accept that excuse!
How can you thank a company who overhires and leaves the MT's without enough work. TT has done this recently. Of course, there is always excuses such as holiday, school starting, etc. But this is not the case at all now.
If you provide for yourself -- no husband -- then you should reconsider hiring on with TT.

First for hospital, then outsourced still on same hospital work
and believe it or not, the hospital was so much easier. Had worked at the hospital for 11 years before they outsourced and then worked another 3+ years for the company they outsourced to. What a difference! The company had so many rules and regulations you could hardly keep up with them all, thousands of them, on the same account, mind you. The higher ups would not leave you alone, constant IMs about any and all. I have gotten to the age where I do not need all that and walked the other week. Have scheduled testing with another hospital for this month. Hope I make the cut, love the hospital work 1000 times more than a company.

Being asked to work all your days off?
First let me state for those who will say get out of the business if you don't like it, I am NOT complaining. I am posing a question to my fellow MTs to see if they are asked the same thing, and how they react. Here's the scenario, no to very little work during the week and then you are asked to work the weekend. This is not your only account and you already work 6 days a week as it is. Do you work your only day off? Of course there are no incentives or OT offered. I don't want to seem like an uncooperative employee but dang, I need at least ONE day off!!
When I asked about less and less work, I was told
that no MDI work is being done by Transcend because they have no access to the MDI platforms / clients. It was suggested that the economy may be taking its toll.

Sounds strange to me.. They would make me nervous as that should be the first thing they discuss.. or at least that is what I would want to know right off before I wasted my time with them.
When I was hired, they asked me what work types I liked from sm
best to worst. I have progress notes last. I hate them but get a few every day-type them anyway. Wish I got more op notes but H&Ps and consults keep me real busy.

MTs to take a cut or risk losing the account because the account wanted to go offshore.
They asked me to work OT every week, NEVER paid
any OT, did not get raise after 90 days. They said I would but it never happened.
If it is any consolation, I work at CS too, and I asked Rahul if we would sm
paid on Friday, and he said something like we'll try, so there is still hope. I hope it is Friday, too, as the coffers are a bit low at my place, but I will be happy to see it on Monday, if that is what it takes.
