Las Vegas?
I believe that if you worked for them 2 years ago, and no longer are - you are probably safe. Whole point is to be sure you are dealing with decent people, big or small they cane be crooks, embezellers and rats out there. They ask us the questions, and some even check credit reports - we should be just as careful.
In Vegas? nm

Aha. That could take a while to call everyone in Las Vegas then.
LOL
Vegas, baby!

Information regarding Shapin Transcription in Las Vegas
Does anyone have information (good or bad) regarding this company, specifically for QA?  Thanks!
THANKS PATTI

Oh, thanks Patti for your response!!!  I have been a medical Transcriptionist for 27 years.  Working in a hospital, I could easily do 300-500 lines per hour.  I know that sounds crazy, but I could.  But working for a service through this online thing, it doesn't seem possible.  I just want to find the best place possible.  I have experience in all types of medical fields as well as ESLs, etc.  I just don't want to jump from company to company as I am a very loyal person, but I only have little extra time to put into this right now, and I want it to be the right thing.

Thanks and let me know if you have any advice for me.  I really appreciate it.  Katie

Thanks Patti!!

Could the MT also take it to a branch of the bank...
On which it was drawn, and would it then be stamped NSF? I was thinking it might save her some money for that bounce-back NSF fee, provided it's drawn on a national bank like BofA or WF where there might be a branch close to her home.

I've never had to do this (thank goddess!), so I'm kind of taking a shot in the dark here.
Depends on which branch.
x
Which branch of MD-IT is the "good one"
but want to apply to the right branch. Thanks in advance.
Patti-thanks for your reply - sm

I just spoke with the MTSO that wants to pay me 0.55 cents per word, which, I think, is ridiculous...wouldn't you say so? I don't think I can do it for that cheap. If it was 1 cent per word, I might consider it.  Thanks for your reply and insight.

Lucy

Patti, a lot of companies are asking ICs to have it now.

Patti - about audio
Thanks for your input. I haven't taken the job yet, as I wanted to get some advice from others. Of course, the sample test he had me take was extremely clear! The calm before the storm! He said he would pay me $50 per audio hour. I'm thinking, if it takes me over 2 hours to do an audio hour, it probably isn't worth it. Maybe I'll just have to try it first and tell him up front what my plan is. Do you think $50 sounds fair?
Agree with Patti--sm
There is no law that says a company HAS to send out a 1099, although it is nice if they do, but you should keep your own records, as well, just in case there are any discrepancies. I worked for five years with a company that never sent out a 1099. It is basically just for your information and not something you have to send to government, like a W2.
Business trip to Vegas makes absolute sense
I agree  with the above poster.  Management told us in an e-mail that the new accounts coming aboard were clients who pursued TT.  Being that TT has a major account in Las Vegas,  ... now another potential client in the same area.  I have seen this happen many times with services I have worked for.  It is called word of mouth and not that unusual to get clients this way.
Didn't that TransTech email about them going to Vegas and us POOR MT's paying for that trip ju

rub us struggling MT's when she sent out that email to us.  She didn't say how many went to LV -- just bye . . . we're off!

Enjoy the light of the Dictaphone flashlight begging for a job for you, while we enjoy the lights of Vegas !

YUK !  Totally irritated this TT MT.  Sickening, in fact.

Patti, I hope you read the other
I work as an IC/QA. I log on to my computer at 7am. There is no work...well I have to keep checking my computer to see if there is work, all day long. If there were only 10 reports that fell into the pool during my shift, I can only bill for an hour or so of work time even though I tied up my entire day waiting on reports to fall into the pool for me to edit.

I was an Executive assistant for many years before becoming an MT. I was an employee of a company who paid me whether I had work to do or not. If you think about it, most companies do this. You don't spend your day clocking in and out because there was no work. It is a cost of operating a business.

I was asking in my post for the name of a company that pays QA to work their shift...a company that realizes that the QA person is sitting at their computer for 8 hours waiting on reports to fall in. If either of the ladies below don't mind emailing me the name of your company who does pay QA in this manner I would greatly appreciate it.

I ususally agree with you Patti, but not this time.
I agree with you Patti! Read on..
I work for a smaller company that pays me 10 cpl while making 13 cpl for the account.  But guess what?  This company deals with the physician's office.  I also print and travel (which is okay by me, it gets me out).  I don't have to deal with the $ aspect through the physician's office.  She does.  And also, she pays me right off of the bat!  I don't wait.  However, most companies want you glued to the computer for their set schedule.  I have so much flexibility.  I just say, I don't mind taking the cpl-hit, if I don't have to do all of the extras.  We all know how that can be, especially if you deal directly with the office manager to try and get paid!  Sometimes, that's not worth my weight in gold!  I say take the line hit for all of the other added headaches that come along with our biz!  Take care!
I agree with Patti; I did that for years.
As long as you are an employee, you just file your Schedule C, plus deductions.  Worked well for me.
It's less an American co with branch in India, than an Indian

You go, Patti. Thought Longtime employee was

Is this the branch you have to pay your own long distance for? Is a C-phone needed? nm
v
I have experience and never heard back from them. They're a Sten-Tel branch. nm
s
send resumes to the smaller companies, try your state first, and then branch out. sm
they are out there. If you can put your money where your mouth is and prove your skills, these small to mid size companies will grab you. I work for a mid-sized MTSO in my state. They absolutely do not outsource overseas, do not mess with VR, and I make .10 at minimum, more depending on the specialty I get. I bounce around between 5 specialties, but have become familiar enough with each specialty to make a good line count. Sorry, I'd rather not share who I work for. The company does not even advertise. You will find many of these companies do not advertise because very seldom are they in need of MTs, as most of their MTs stay with them for years.
There are several Sten-Tels. Got a state for the branch you're interested
s
Do they have an ad somewhere? A search is only giving me a Michigan branch owned by an Indian. nm
s
I know I made over $60K as a QA manager. An MT manager
I am told is less money but definitely NOT as low as $36,500. I would not do it for $36,500.

The majority that I hear and see (and many are not advertised) are around $45K. You are giving yourself away for that. You might be working for a company that I received an offer from at one time. Great people but could not afford to work for that kind of money. Way too low to be on call 24/7.
Agree with Patti. MTOS sends 1099 as courtesy,
x
Great News!! I was able to cash the check yesterday. I called the branch directly and they said-sm

right now it was good.  I do live in another state but her bank was bought by a bank that is local to me.  I went there as soon as I could get there and they cashed the check for me!!!  She owes me another small check ($84 and change) which I still have not received.  I was beginning to think that I was never going to see this $$ (the last time I was able to cash a check from her was back in January).  I guess if I bug her enough I will get my other funds.  I think she just wants me to go away which I will as soon as I get all the funds owed me.  She also owes me a 1099 but I am not going to stress over that.  I still have my records.  Thanks all for your ideas.

Former QA Manager
your "former nurse" is inaccurate. This person was a great manager. She was a valuable assest to the dept. in that position. Any company would be lucky to have her.
As a former QA Manager....
I often said, only slightly in jest, that a full psychiatric eval would be a total GODSEND. Unless you've been on the receiving end of MTs who can't accept that diagnosing an 83-year-old female patient with AIDS (dictated "of advanced age"), is WRONG, then....welll.... (She claimed that she knew as much as ANY doctor, so who was I to suggest that she was wrong?)

And then there's the MT who believed that it was her first amendment right to transcribe whatever she liked because, dangnabit, she was a doctor in a 3rd world foreign country in a former lifetime...and threatened lawsuits because she was smarter than ANYONE else, so couldn't be touched by anything with white genetics...

Believe me. Psych tests aren't a bad idea.

No, not the manager.
Those were the responses I got when I asked about the sign on bonus. I was trying to dig up their old ads. You are right about the headers and footers too. My paycheck was short almost $500.
Re: manager
I'm not the person you were asking, but the person I'm pretty sure you're referring to is still there as of now, so guess it wasn't her. In fact, she seems to be handling it quite well.
Ops Manager
Do you mean the owner or someone else? I guess I have stayed under the radar so far. C
Have you tried to tell anyone about it? Such as your manager or sm
the Solution Center? They trouble-shoot issues like this all the time. Oh and don't blame the platform - it could indeed be caused by your routed or your ISP. I've been with them for 8+ years and no major platform problems.
All I know is that my first manager
told me that medical transcriptionists have always been job hoppers, always looking for a better deal, and that was back in 1990-something. It was after that that MQ came on the scene and started changing the industry for the worse IMO.
OSi manager job

Hi.  I've been an MT with them for a while, and it IS as bad as people say it is, but an account manager position has come open and I'm thinking about selling my soul to the devil.  (Sorry--I'm poor, and as anyone knows who has typed for them, the second I start making money, they add 15-trillion more hospital accounts for me to try to learn, slowing me way down.)

Does anybody know how much an account manager position with them might PAY and whether it requires RELOCATION?  Neither of these crucial points are mentioned in their job ad.  I'd ask them directly but I think I've been a thorn in the side of some of the higher-ups, though maybe not the ones I'd need to get along with, so I don't want to make myself known just yet.  Anybody know?  Thanks.

Who is the ops manager?

Who is the ops manager?
Lesli McGill
Not the Manager

I could bet you anything that you NEVER had an issue with the Manager.  There are two people we report to, a supervisor and a manager.  Yes, the supervisor can be a bit abrasive at times but as long as you stick to your schedule, produce your line counts and maintain your quality, normally nothing is said to you.  One always has the right to go to the Manager if there is something that cannot be resolved.

If there are QA inconsistencies, there is a QA Challenge Program.  I have had errors removed and I have also had them stick.

I have transcribed for over 15 years and I have never found a better company.  I believe there are a lot more happier MTs than there are unhappy MTs at Axolotl.

They are able to offer us such good benefits and line rates because Axolotl is known for their quality.  They are truly different than any other National company and/or in-house company/hospital, that I have worked for.

No, I'm not the manager! (nm)
I do currently work for Milner, and I'm happy here, but not everyone has the same experiences with companies.
Talk to your manager about it first of all. Then...
...if that doesn't work, most companies, depending on how much they are hiring, can find you a spot if they want you bad enough.

Sometimes recruiters are really restricted on what they can hire for, but if there are a lot of openings to fill I can hire a M-F person if it's a deal breaker and I absolutely don't want to lose them.

However, it doesn't happen often, the person typically has to have a spotless track record and reputation in the field, and they possibly will have to fit into a potentially difficult-to-fill niche (oncology or very high ESL, for example), but it's not unheard of.

Good luck!
Why would hiring be better with a new HR manager? The HR manager should not do the hiring. sm
The recruiter should hire. The HR manager should do the job of any normal HR manager and make sure the legal issues are done, benefits, etc. A recruiter is the hiring personnel. The HR manager is to do the inside job of human resources. That should make no difference other than with the benefits.
Yes the operating manager
is nasty and they want you committ to them but they will not committ to you.
BIG 3rd on the operations manager! sm
She is as nasty as they come. Sweet as sugar until you have worked there for a little while. I REALLY suggest you stay away. They don't value their employees in any way.
What manager did you e-mail?
I have had nothing but excellent feedback from Lee Perfect training manager. She replies to my e-mails all of the time. I received my foot pedal in three business days. This sounds very strange what you are going through because I did not experience it whatsoever.
Awful HR manager
Jim with Zylomed offered me a job and told me he would send me my papers. I waited and waited and no papers. I e-mailed him and called him and he totally ignored me. How unprofessional is that. Company definitely sounds screwed up just like most national companies these days. This career is really making me depressed with so much crap we have to put up with! Any others experiencing this?
The ortho manager IS the BEST!
Best manager (and company) I've worked for in over ten years.
Is this from the wonderful OSi QA manager?
This is what I would expect from her.
Has TT lost the QA manager?
?
I'm in agreement, but how bad of a manager
3 jobs.  How on earth would they even be able to manage anything?  I would have to assume that management is nonexistent for the people under that manager at those companies!
