Stated Goal: Eliminate MTs this decade

Most are already aware (it is pretty obvious), but because some still refuse to open their eyes, I am posting the below from the Nuance website. It is actually a timeline of the Dictaphone Corporation's history, which is pretty interesting and goes back to Alexander Graham Bell.
Still, I find it noteworthy that they state in no uncertain terms that they want to "eliminate most manual transcription for healthcare in North America this decade."
"A major development took place in February 2006 when Burlington-Massachusetts-based Nuance Communications announced that it would acquire Dictaphone in a cash deal worth $357 million. In a news release Nuance Chairman and CEO Paul Ricci commented on the acquisition, which was completed by the end of March, stating: 'The combined resources, experience and talents of Nuance and Dictaphone will help accelerate the adoption of speech recognition to eliminate most manual transcription for healthcare in North America this decade, delivering over $5 billion in savings to care facilities and transcription service organizations.'
Under new parentage, Dictaphone was named a division of Nuance--the Dictaphone Healthcare Solutions division--and Schwager was named its president.

EMR has been around for over a decade...
It took forever to catch on because the hospitals and docs did not have the technology and didn't budget for it...don't blame Obama because the medical industry is finally catching up.
Returned after a decade away from MT
I was in my own house and the div was proceeding. Now, I needed a job. Had been an MT from age 19 to 33 years of age. Only made sense to return since I had no other skills that could earn me a decent income. MQ and QA got me back here.
oh, you made my decade!!!
My stated my sentiments very well! The only other thing I would add is that with CB at her side, D went down hill fast. Something about lying down with fleas comes to mind...
It would appear that their goal is to take
over that position. Even MQ has their loyal followers. Not to equate them with terrorists, but they have quite a following as well.
People aren't upset because there is a change but what they are changing to.
We're all going down the toilet.
VR won't eliminate the MT
As long as MTs continue to do the editing. I mean, why pay 12+ cpl for the MT to do it all, when you can pay less than that for one person do the typing (jab at overseas) and the US MT can handle the editing.
>>>In time, though, I believe it is totally possible that the software will become so efficient that even the VR jobs will be few.
As I said before, only if it is trained correctly. And I decide to log times and production this morning to show people what I'm talking about. I dictated and proofed between 4:15 and 5:45 a.m. I'm getting paid for 636 lines.
And that's with straight dictation. I never went beyond that point, although there is WAY MORE you can do with the product. There's nothing that can be done on the keyboard that I can't do with this product.
Like I said, I'll take my decade of first-hand knowledge of her over
x
$1000 weekly gives me a goal to aim for
I look forward to reaching that goal!
The more the system tries to eliminate MTs I think the more they (sm)
the more the system finds they really need the human touch in order to have a document worth the money for doctors to walk into court with.
However, I will say this. As we go into this depression -- and trust me we are there -- businesses have learned they don't have to CARE. They don't have to care about the health or well being of their employees -- and they are showing them the door rather than being decent about a work place.
So, they may find they need us humans in the chain of medicine - I think the courts will more and more not see law suits because nobody can afford to bring the charges. We will all be out here just struggling to keep body and soul together. Sad what has happened.
Are they going to eliminate the 12-hour
and going to a straight 8-hour shift or are they just requesting that you clock in and out as needed during the 12-hour window?
I think what they are doing is trying to eliminate QA jobs
I have been here for years and we have always had tons of work in QA. Lately, since they have become so hot and heavy with ISR (Intelligent? speech recognition - HARDLY!) that they are trying to get the MTs to stop using QA, there has been virtually no work in IQA. They want to make us all MT editors and pay us all peanuts.
I have seen the work that goes back to the clients and believe me, Webmedx is nowhere near good enough to send less than 7% of its work to IQA.
The clients are already complaining about quality. What do they think that bypassing IQA is going to accomplish? It just might get them a lawsuit because of some patient care error going through because an MT guessed at a medication or a dosage so that she didn't get dinged for sending the report to IQA.
I hope all companies who are trying this tactic get bit in the behind by this. Just one more way they are trying to take a penny out of our pockets to put in theirs!
gosh -- it's been over a decade since I've heard of anyone being sued ....
I could understand if they wanted to fire people who they felt were bad actors or had bad atttitudes, but I've never understood how/why they'd sue individuals for expressing their opinion -- unless they could prove that there was deliberate misrepresentation going on --- and I personally cannot imagine why anyone would try to make any MT company look artificially worse -- so many have such real problems -- like overstaffing, crappy platforms, lousy supervisors, crazy-making QA departments -- endlessly -- and so on
I remember when I first started with a national years ago (not TT) and discovering that they had sued MTs for posting over at MT Daily -- I couldn't imagine why they'd bother. Even then there was more competition for really good workers (who might chose to work elsewhere based on some internet postings) than there seems to be these days ...
What a waste! Better they all clean up their practices and spend the money doing some employee satisfaction polling ...
Yes, outsource as in offshoring. Why else would she be in the way of "their goal"? sm
You would think if she is as good as everyone says, she would be helping towards their goal. So it sounds to me like she is against them achieving whatever their goal is and she was in the way of it.
Assign doctors and eliminate cp. I know, I know, it definitely would take some
additional managerial involvement but IMHO it would be a w/w situation. Happy transcriptionists, more dollars, happy happy happy
I would immediately eliminate Focus.
It is Indian run, low pay, and constant turnover. I haven't heard much good about Diskriter either, though certainly better than Focus. KS is good for some, not for others. It wasn't a good fit for me. Axolotol pays better than any of them, better benefits. The account they are hiring for has a high percentage of very challenging ESL dictators. The company itself is great though.
I did not post the comment, but what is your goal with your weird comments.sm
that nobody understands and have a rather belligerent undertone?
What are *handles?**
What do you want???
I've never heard of a goal higher than 100 reports for radiology.
And there are plenty of days when a poor, unorganized dictator will hold you back to more like 60 reports! Especially if you try to catch all the order errors with right/left, whether contrast was used, etc.
I'm sorry; I doubt you can reach that 2000 goal or anything close in 40 hours.
nn
I think you are right. Eliminate cost. Be more competitive. Save profit margin.

Could the KS RAD MT who stated
below that she has been at Keystrokes for 2 years and makes good money define what good money is? I would like to make sure there is plenty of work to make $$$.
someone stated... c msg
IC only, no benefits, paid by the minute.
I stated
at the beginning of the test that it was not timed and was open book.
Sorry...should have been *It* stated

Please know, as I stated above -
that a USB may NOT be what is required in a job. There are also 9-serial port and 15-serial port pedals. All companies are different and have different requirements. I'd hate for you to buy something you don't need.
I had stated it would not keep them from getting
a job for sure and yes, you are right about the chuckle...but I definitely would love to see a little more professionalism in this field. I think people would take the field more seriously with more professionalism amongst all of us though a few laughs do make the job more interesting. :)
As stated below, have been here for almost
it's stated on both ads.. looks low to me
/
WOW! VERY well stated!
This is an excellent letter. You made some very valid points, didn't lose your cool and I think you prevailed in your argument. You succeeded in pointing out to AHDI themselves their glaring inconsistencies. I am so proud of you for having the courage to write this and share it with us.
Well stated! sm
You took the words right out of my mouth. I am not yet a CMT but am going to take the exam before the end of the year.
I have a friend who is an ER physician. He has no respect for what MTs do, primarly because his reports are riddled with errors by MTs who 1. Don't care or 2. Do care but do not have the skills to produce an accurate medical record.
Either way, MTs are sometimes viewed as low-skilled labor that is easily replaced. Credentialing can only help to undo some of the damage that has been done to our profession in the past few years.
Again, this is just my opinion. Please don't flame me if you do not agree with my views. We're all in this together and want the same thing. More respect and ultimately more money. Most of us work because we have to.
Well stated. You get what you pay for...SM
We're talked down to by MTSOs and QA and expected to turn out perfect work while at the same time wages are going lower and lower. What workers in any other line of work would stand for this? Would they care?
FT only, which is usually stated in their ads.
Usually have 2 accounts. The schedule depends on the account, but with KS and most all companies now the schedules run Tu-Sa or Su-Th. If clinic work may not be required to work weekend.
I saw their ad on MTdaily and the ad stated
something about offshoring resumes ...sounded like they welcome both USA and offshore. So 2cpl is not good for two reasons:
1) Because its 2 cents/line
2) If they welcome offshore resumes, then they probably are offshoring accounts, which means you will end up retyping JUST ABOUT ALL OF THE REPORTS, thus, making no money.
Beautifully stated!!!!
There is something going on, they are outsourcing and there are money problems.
in the ss website, it stated...
no equipment costs and that
they provided all the necessary equipment for effortless setup.
so i was shocked (and fell for it) when i was told to purchase the pedal/program.
i am one and have stated my reasons why
this board is mainly for complainers.
if any poster has something good to say about a company, they are practically dismembered by angry mobs of posters.
who even knows how many actually DIFFERENT posters there are? who cares?! lol
i don't see a union ever for MT work. i see aamt watering down their own organization.
i doubt a cmt certification would help much at all, just do it for personal satisfaction.
this field will never be regulated so it won't matter.
jmho
and as I stated in a posting to someone above--sm
perhaps they should ask your company to post the names of all who were hired...as if it is any of their business, anyway...geez, I just don't understand some of these people.
The new PT job I have stated today they had others from MQ (sm)
joining them. I said sorry, we are all trying to cover our financial bases/asses. His response was bring em on.
It is clearly stated in their ad on the job board. n,m
It was stated the way she meant it.
I am sure that she meant exactly what she said. It could have been stated in a more professional, courteous way.
There is no reason that people should be so RUDE all the time. I guess it makes her feel like she is somebody or something.
YaaaayyYYY!! Very well stated
Thanks for the kick in the butt:)
As I stated, I make $25+/hr...
and my name says where I work. My company is routinely bashed, but I personally know at least 2-3 other MTs who work for my company on this board that also make a comparable amount.
no....if I wanted more, I would have stated that.
NM
As I stated in the msg above, I did not know you could use your own. My apologies. nm
.
As I stated in my post,
I was trained by a mentor. She had, at at time, over 25 years' experience in the field, about nine years ago. I have no idea what they teach about this in the classroom, but I suppose my answer would have to be that it was chiseled in stone. LOL!!!
However, just for you, I found this information provided in the BOS2:
In an independent benchmarking study of the MT profession conducted in 1999 by the Hay Management Consultants (HayGroup), three distinct professional levels for medical transcriptionists were identified and described.
The first item listed for the Professional Level 3 states, Recognized as possessing expert knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, signs and symptoms, medications, and laboratory values related to a specialty or specialties.
Level 2 refers to the same knowledge, but as seasoned rather than expert.
Level 1 refers to the same knowledge, but as basic rather than expert or seasoned.
I would think that an expert level, even a seasoned level, would include available dosages and what the medications are used to treat, wouldn't you?
Does this mean you have to know this? No, I don't think so, but I would also think the transcriptionists with expert and seasoned knowledge earn more than those with basic knowledge.
Hope this helps!
You should have stated that you just wanted
you didn't really want a true explanation or answer to your question. You asked, I answered. I could give 2 hoots what anyone does or doesn't do, sweetie. I was wasting my precious time based on my mistaken assumption that you were truly wanting to know the answer to your question. So, have fun bickering with yourself. Too many MTs with valid questions to waste my time further with you. You can sure lead a horse to water, but you sure can't get 'em to drink. LOL.
well, the problem is what you stated, but......sm
i think the BIGGEST problem is GREED.......GREEDY GREEDY GREEDY MTSOs, etc. they want bigger homes, bigger cars, more trips, and bigger boats.
As stated previously....
This is an anonymous board. Anyone can come here and post under any name. That is not a clue that this is the 'real' person.
As I said before, your posts come across as very snarky. I am being honest with you. You may want to work on your communication skills. Communicating online is different than communicating face to face.
You mentioned 'bitter MTs.' I am not one of the 'bitter MTs' that you speak of. I have a great job (not with MDI). The company I work for is not even mentioned on this board, and there is a reason for that . Yes, there are 'bitter MTs' who post here. And you know why they are bitter? Because they are dealing with companies who do not have any respect for their MTs. Now, I know you are going to carry on about how MDI appreciaties their MTs. Well, I hope that's true. Instead of trying to address their gripe here, I hope you are addressing it individually with the MTs who actually work for MDI.
As above poster (TT) stated
it is part of their duties as a lead. If the other responsibilities are being handled, they are to type/edit work, too. Part of their responsibility of being a lead.
They did it at the other national where I worked, too. What are they supposed to do? Forget about their responsibility?
I stated it from my point
of view. No wish to argue with you. You have your opinion and I have mine. We both have that right. I am not attacking you personally in any way, just stating my take on what has happened in the MT business, has nothing to do with your decisions. I have experienced great losses due to the way pay has gone down, and I don't like it, nor do others. I feel very cheated by the companies doing that. They are the ones negotiating for lower pay. It is quite true that now WalMart pays more in many cases, and I base that on knowing salary of greeter at local WalMart.
Same line stated by the Q...
Well put, Tara....make sure you ventilate that bubble you've protecting yourself in or you'll suffocate.
Shades of the Q all over again.
They said the same thing...until they found that loophole. And, no surprise, onw that they've found it and can make extra money, why do you NOT think Transcend won't follow suit?
It's all about the money. It's all about profit.
Just as was called a few weeks ago on these very boards, MDI-MD has done precisely what was predicted.
If this is stated in your contract
Then I would definitely push this issue. Evidently you were started with a lower than desirable rate with that little clause in there as bait. I would ask that they evaluate you, your work, and your reliability and make them cough it up or give you a why not. Good luck to you.
Shelly, you crack me up. You stated before you
cannot make enough money working for a service so you work full time at a local facility and part time for Transcend. If these programs were so wonderful, you should be able to make wonderful money on them so you would not need 2 jobs.
