You absolutely cannot deviate from your set schedule. You absolutely must give 2 weeks' notice if you need time off for any reason or need a schedule change. If not, you will be reprimanded like a child. If you want time off, they go by seniority. I was specifically told this by the supervisor when I asked for a day off and couldn't get it, but in the same respect I only gave a week's notice (heaven forbid).
This is a very good company, great pay, great benefits, but for me the flexibility was not there at all. It was just a personal choice. I absolutely need flexibility during my day with my children and surprises that always seem to come up where my husband needs me with his businesses, my reason for taking an IC/statutory position.
I was finding I had to constantly keep making schedule changes, which the supervisor always approved but wanted to be sure I didn't need to make anymore. :) I was pretty much a pain in the butt with schedule changes, so leaving there to take a break and then really evaluate what I needed led me to an IC position, which I am absolutely loving and is working so well for me. This is what I got into this business for in the first place.
Axolotl is a very good company, though. They don't offshore either.
Yes, sort of (sm)
CardioScribes is owned by MediScribes. To my knowledge, none of the Cardio stuff goes to India. However, I think all of the MediScribes does. I'm really not sure why it is that way. I mean, why they don't just send it all to India if they're going to send some. Not that they should. I'm just saying, it's weird.
I do--sort of. SM
It's a hazy window into the future called Google. Try checking terms such as electronic medical record voice recognition front end back end transcription. There's a lot of discussion these days among IT specialists and healthcare institutions about the transition to the EMR. Front-end VR systems are entered entirely by clinicians, provide an immediate record, and do away with involvement of editors, but require training, take more clinician time, and distract from patient interaction. Back-end systems are similar to old dictation patterns and route the VR product through us for cleanup. It appears likely at this point that some institutions will go for one approach and others for the other, but how many jobs will be left is lost in the hazy distance, but even in the best case fewer of us will be needed percentagewise.
Although few institutions have started the transition, a little research should burst the bubble that a home can be found someplace clinging to the comfy old way. The US is definitely backwards in this regard. Change is overdue, and virtually all are eventually going to VR and EMR. MTSOs are very, very busy looking and pushing for ways they (we) can continue to provide needed services.
Bottom line for anyone who wants to stay in this line of work: Become skilled in VR editing and be very ready to learn any other new skills change may require of the survivors. I haven't signed up for coding classes, for instance, but at least an initial introduction course or two might not be a bad idea.
This is the sort of post that
made me almost reject their offer. The only docking I am aware of is that they do indeed dock you if you cherry pick the work. Which to me, is one of the best features of the company. I find that the great line offsets any clunkiness of the software. As I said before, I am 100% happy working for them.
seems sort of low for someone with your expeience. nm
.
That is sort of hinky.
I've never had an IC position ask for this much documentation. Employee, yes, they do have to verify citizenship. But not IC.
I think you are sort of in the Kool-Aid
This person is responding to another poster from another thread who thinks it is just okay to undermine what we call smart people. A company is hiring ICs to work shifts, but this company has actually subbed work for a national. It's called asking questions, getting answers, and then having someone believe that it is just okay to make money off of us working MTs like yourself. I understand you think this person is heartless, but in essence they are not. This OP is trying to make a point, but obviously you are not aware of the many threads regarding this issue. Take a chill pill! The bottom of the barrell is the company that subs and then misrepresents what they are doing to reel in MTs for a short period of time only to find out that the work runs out. Do you realize how hard it is to learn a new account, and then have it taken from you? I am sure you do. That is what this thread is really about. It is really about being informed of companies and their wrongdoings. It is allowed to be posted if someone is not paid from a certain company, and so it should be allowed to know whether a company is trying to pull a fast one at the expense of MTs that are unaware of this type of behavior.
OK, now that I can sort of understand.
(Sort of.)
I sort of agree, but --sm
I have tried using the archives to look things up too and I have NEVER found the information I am looking for. Others complain about it too, with only being able to find things from two years ago or some such. Everyone always says, look in the archives, but don't use the Google search, but no body ever takes the time to EXPLAIN how to search the archives. Even you yourself say to search the archives using the correct tring of characters, but you do not explain what that is. I have spent the time, but give up in frustration because nobody bothers to help with HOW to search the archives, but just saying *do it*. So a lot of people give up, as well, and hope that someone will just answer their questions, instead of telling them to research it, but not telling them how. That is what makes no sense to me. and that is why I say that nobody wants to help anymore.
Yeah, it's sort of like comparing - (sm)
The tone was a bit on the stern side today too, don't you think?
I, too love the current platform. Entirely easy & user-friendly. I worry that the speech-rec part of the new platform will turn this into a boring editing job.
Sort of like waiting for your meal at a
restaurant. In the good old days, the second I would light a cigarette, after reaching the impatient point for my food, the meal would come! LOL! Good luck to you! You get to play with that shiny new computer all weekend!! Best of luck!
Sounds sort of like Answer-Med in
Monroe, LA. They keep pets on top of all that.
It's amazing what sort of goodies can come your way
Been there, done that, and just can't wait to do it again.
I ['heart'] the Labor Board!
That sort of behavior was well illustrated by
well back into history, and there are a lot of reasons for it. Partly genetic, partly situational.
What exactly is different about it? Can you give sort of a short overview?
thanks
They're lying sort of. They are pretty much
100% Indian, so I guess saying they don't offshore to India isn't a total lie. They just have an address in the US, which someone posted previously was actually a residence.
Actually ther sort of offshore those jobs too. sm
There are Indians here on visas that take these IT jobs and get paid half of what an American makes. They're trying to get the government to grant more of these types of visas so they can bring more in.
Are there any companies that hire emp status and let you work sort of a split?
I would like to work 6 hours during the day while kids are in school and then about 2 hours in the evening. Are there companies that will allow this? Do they have affordable benefits?
As opposed to what sort of "panties" she wears normally? Thanks for that mental picture!
Just be honest. Put down the shift you're looking for, what type of work, that sort of thing.
Be reasonable in the line rate, or I use "negotiable". Let them know if you're looking for a large or small company to work for.
Moderator should REQUIRE mgmt to be identified in some sort of way, so as to be identified as
advertising for their company on this forum by all the praises and such! This ends up to be FREE advertising for companies when their mgmt team do such on this board. We MT's know the whole truth about the company, as we experience it on a daily basis.
I just want to agree 100% that TT is NOT the company it started to be -- and I mean NOTHING like the company it was. It is rapidly going the way of the Q in the method of running the company now -- more mgmt/supes than MT's. Shame, shame. Taking our $$$$ and paying more mgmt-type people when the MT's produce every penny the company makes. Who else does? NOBODY. Dictaphone has all the say-so about all their ExText accounts, ad they have to spread the work around to all of Dictaphone customers -- not saying that TT has not picked up an account or 2 on their own. I cannot put my finger on the problem at TT for the past 1+ years, but it is there.
My main grip is how my line count has dropped and not MY OWN fault either. My fingers are going as fast as they ever have. The other grip is mine is TOO MANY mgmt/supe type people now. Gets very old every time an email is sent out to us hardworking MT's that TT has hired another mgmt team member! YUK Some of these people are real doozies too, along with the new tech people they hired. We had an EXCELLENT tech guy before these 3 were hired and TT didn't take care of him, so he left. He is missed greatly. He can do the work of the total of those 3 techs onboard now and do a MUCH BETTER job at the same time. MT's need/deserve good tech people, as it also has gone by the wayside at TT.
Just speaking the truth as I see it at TT . . . in my eyes . . . been there long enough to have a pretty good vision of the company past and present . . .
what makes them the best?

It just makes me sad...
I love Christmas (at least what it's SUPPOSED to be like)and you're right about the commercialism ruining it. I try to avoid the mobs if I can. We've had 2 people in this area held up at gunpoint for X-box systems! Unreal! It's fun getting together and celebrating the season with family and such, but 'tis definitely the season to be greedy.
I don't think having your CMT makes you a better
MT and I've seen CMTs who did really lowsy work. I have never considered getting my CMT. I have always been told that I do top quality work and at companies that do pay a differential for having your CMT, I am paid the same rate. Some people need letters after their name for whatever reason.
What makes you think KS is any
different than the company you work for? Go ahead. Check them out, but don't come back here complaining.
Can you say what makes you think this.
I don't understand why people take the time to respond to questions but they really aren't telling you anything. If you have something to say...say it. But please only say what you know. I'm not interested in what one 'thinks'. If you 'know' it...let me hear it.
Thanks.
What makes me mad? sm
When new people get hired at a higher line rate and doing easy accounts.
What makes you so sure it is YOUR job? Maybe they just need more help
Makes you wonder
The intro letter they send makes them sound like top professionals - and they waste no time in telling you how many fail their test.
But it makes you wonder when see *several* typo's in the materials that come with the tape - and then they are very lax with the testing process. Something tells me not getting my results was actually a favor in disguise. :)
WHAT MAKES YOU SO SURE
they are living in this country. Most are in INDIA and calling from INDIA!!!! Gotta give these companies credit though. They know how to hire good tech folks to set up in THE U.S.A. and they most likely live here but came from India.
Makes me wonder now..
My husband worked out of state for 3 years and they only took out taxes for that state. He says that when you work in another state, the state taxes for that particular state are the ones they take out. This is also a big co., so they should know the laws too, but if that's the case with MT, I guess you would have state taxes taken out for the state in which the co. headquarters are located. But I certainly can't speak as an expert because I have no idea, just know that's what happened in my hubby's case. It's never been an issue with me because I live in the state where my co. is based.
Makes ya wonder, don't it?
x
makes you wonder
I worked for a company for around 2-1/2 years, basically 7 days a week to help out. Never got one single incentive for it, nor did I expect it because in my eyes at the time, this was as good as it got. I also never asked for a day off while I worked there. I was paid lower than what I've been paid at other companies, in fact, 2-3 cents lower. I was offered more for other places, but I let personal feelings and guilt if I left them get in the way of business. I liked the personal feel of the company, as there were only about 30 transcriptionists and you had a chance to get to know your doctors--probably about 50 of them. My skills were good because I was always told that.
I had to leave due to reasons that I didn't have any control over and got literally a 1 sentence reply 3 days later. Said basically ok, no thank you, no good luck, no nothing. I still worked my 2 weeks afterwards. My reason wasn't a run of the mill lame excuse either. This was my first thanks. I felt like dirt after sending it and was sick about it for about a week before I did. I certainly didn't want them to say oh, please stay because I couldn't have even if I wanted to. I just expected a more grown up response from someone who could definitely write professionally.
Things have since cleared up and I have been back in the job market for about 2 months, so I sent my resume to them and re-applied. I figured, I liked working there, they liked me--had a great platform, why not? Well, this was over a month ago and never received an I'm sorry Sharon, we don't need anyone at this time. I figured, you can give an old employee that much acknowledgement, especially when it comes from a familiar e-mail and you KNOW they've read it as soon as they received e-mail notification because they, from personal experience, always got back to your e-mails within seconds.
I don't expect anyone to kiss my butt, but a little bit of graditude from a place where you aren't just a number, where you are like family, I guess I expected a little more. Am I wrong?
I have gotten more heartfelt e-mails from companies I have been with less time than that.
Moral of my story: They don't care about you, so if you don't have to, I wouldn't worry about sacrficing your family, life, and health to care about them.
I have found a better place who won't use me for my time or under pay me or EXPECT that I be at my computer all day every day to help them.
Thanks for listening, Sharon
What makes you....
so in the know that you look at other people's work. I work there and there are no names on jobs...just MT numbers. I have been there for more than 3 years, was not a newbie when I started, and like it there just fine. I do not brown nose, and do not speak to anyone. It log on, work, and log off. I pass all my QA reviews have absolutely no problems with QA. It is beyond me how all you whiners and complainers know so much about everyone that works there...I would imagine you spent more time gossiping and spreading rumors while there than actually working.
Wow that makes my day - thanks!
as to sensible comments - anyone seen my prozac?
Really makes you wonder huh?
This is just one example of how we as at-home MTs do not really know who we are working for? This sounds like the ultimate bait and switch.
I don't know about CS but SSc makes you buy...sm
a pedal off the web. Seems like only a specified brand ($139 .. at a special MT discount will work with their program (LOL). This isn't specified in their job posting, though.
What makes anyone think only MTs are having this done??
This is a common practice now for jobs of every description, not just in our field. Someone said if I were in their spot might not like, I took bankruptcy years ago and did not buy ANYTHING on credit for years. When I once again tried, had clean slate and like I was starting all over. When I was low on money, I worked several jobs in order to pay my bills then and brought my credit back up to an excellent number now. I have been there (probably worse than most of you now with my bankruptcy) so it can be done and I do not AGAIN mind people checking.
what makes you think they have only 1?
nm
What makes them think someone will
They snooze, they lose.
That makes 2 of us!
They said they sent me an email to download start up but i haven't gotten a thing!
so that makes it right?
nm
My DH is an IT IC and makes far more. Where...
did you hear that?
What makes you think I'm a man? Just by my name?..
It actually means I am a Steely Dan fan...No, I don't work for free but I don't sit home and whine that no one appreciates me, won't give me an atta girl, you are awesome, what can I give you to make you feel some worth in your life! How about just clocking in, doing your job the best you can and not relying on someone having to pat your behind telling you that you are good enough and special? No wonder so many of you are on antidepressants, weight loss drugs, insomnia pills. Grow up and be women, do your job for 8 hours and let it go!
That makes 2 of us (sm)
I can't imagine trying to work under those conditions and, unless it's a very poor quality VR system she works on, I'm leaning toward too many MTs doing their own thing with personal preference, style, expanding when not dictated as such, etc., that are just creating havoc with her VR system.
I get really annoyed when I start seeing kilograms or milligrams popping up, when the client profile says to use abbreviations and the VR system had been trained that way, and suddenly the expanded forms start popping through because one or more MTs are overriding the system.
I cannot fathom having to rework every single sentence of a report without pulling my hair out in frustration!
What makes you different, you are saying
not for those of us in this category. Do you think a bunch of only dumb bunnies work on VR and cannot make a go of anything else? What do you think makes you in a special group? When transcribing straight I did every bit as much as you per day if not more. Where do you get us in this category?
It makes me wonder...
When I first posted on this site it was to warn others of a company that has and is still not paying employees for the work they do. It was for no more and no less of a reason than to fairly warn some people who are out there looking for work.
I have been in this field for over 3 decades and I am sick to death of watching the MTSOs negate our education, our foundation and our work ethics by doing things like sending work overseas, over hiring to clear an account and then letting those people sit with no work and no income or not paying them at all. What happened to treating people with your conscience and recognizing them for the work and loyalty that they put into the company they were hired to work for? What happened to banding together to keep our industry honest and inviting to people who are looking for a field to go into? What happened to plain decency?
Anyway - I digress. The bottom line is that I came on here to warn people of a company who is not paying their employees for whatever reason. Take it - leave it - no one forces anyone to read these comments or act on them. I did my part. Good luck and God bless!
It makes me sad too
I thought this was a profession that I could retire from, but obviously that's not the case the way things are going. I've decided to go back to school for nursing soon, as I can't make enough money to support my family the way things are going. So I just need to hang on for a little while longer in the MT field. I just don't know if I should take the job offer with the other company or not - I guess I just don't want to go from the frying pan into the fire so to speak.
It makes me sad, too
When I first started there, it was great. MT week and Christmas, we always got a gift certificate. This year, nothing.
I signed up for the 401K because they were supposed to match it. So far nothing.
I went to VR because I wanted to learn and it was great at first. Then the push to get more and more on VR. Now, there's rarely enough work.
I would love to leave, but I have no choice but to stay. I have to keep robbing Peter to pay Paul and it would only get worse if I left. My pay, since the push, has dropped $500 a pay period. Part of that is my fault. I no longer flex as much as I used to. After a certain time of the day, I'm worn out, plus have other priorities after my scheduled hours. There is no way I can flex any longer.
Another reason is that I can retire if I want. I've been holding off and hoping things would get better, but it's looking more and more like that will be my only option. The push is on for all companies to do VR, not just TT, so I certainly don't want to jump from the frying pan to the fire again.
I'm sure there is one somewhere who makes
line count and is content, but if you read the archives and see all the problems with thi company I can't believe anyone would think twice about applying. They are constantly hiring because they can't keep anyone. Worst company I ever worked for.
Ah-so! That makes sense.
Hope you get the answers you're looking for--pass along any info if you would, please. I'm interested, too!
