struck a nerve
Wow, I would definitely say I struck some nerves today. My point I'm trying to make is even though your office is at home, you are AT home, OT or regular hours. Yes you like to spend time with your family but if you had OT at an actual office they wouldn't even get to see you. At least with your office at home you can say hi, answer questions, give some hugs. If you're sick you may not want to be in your office at home, but at least you can throw on a pair of sweats and not have to look nice to complete your job. No gas money to spend, no money for clothes, no travel time to and from work away from your family.
Still have to work on Christmas or Thanksgiving
alternating years, one year Christmas, the next year Thanksgiving and that is in addition to NY Day and Fourth of July and Labor Day. It's depressing. Especially to work on Christmas. I worked on Thanksgiving and after that I said never again. I missed seeing my family and I live 2 hours away from where Thanksgiving would be celebrated. No way was I going to still be at Medscribe when it was time to work Christmas.
How was everyone's Thanksgiving?? Ours was great!! Now onward to CHRISTMAS!!!!
I hope all is well with everyone and that everyone enjoyed their holiday! This is just a note to wish everyone good health, wealth and long life! Live each day to the fullest as none of your tomorrows are guarantted to you! And may each and every one of your dreams come true! Take care everybody! Hey RadGuy....where are you??? Haven't heard from you in a while!
PLEASE NAME COMPANIES THAT WANT YOU TO WORK CHRISTMAS OR THANKSGIVING
I am very interested to see the list. Thank you.
If you are of Thanksgiving, you work Christmas and vice versa..

This part of your post struck me as odd
~~~ I have been subject to some horrifying systems where the companies actually expect you to achieve your line counts or keep them hidden.~~~~
Okay, I understand how an MTSO can hide line counts. I worked in an office and saw how they did it.
BUT, ~~I have been subject to some horrifying systems where the companies actually expect you to achieve your line counts~~~~ So you are saying TH has a horrifying system and does not expect you to achieve your line count? That's an odd statement. Care to expound on it?
Very puzzling information.
Merry Christmas mlstoo!! & All! Beautiful post, feel the same!!! nm
Christmas morning here and not even a Merry Christmas
This struck me as odd
I have never heard a patient referred to in this way before by a dictator, like he is referring to an animal. Just thought it was funny:
*The patient is married with 10 offspring, 4 males and 6 females.*
Maybe this heat is frying my brain, but got a good laugh anyway.
Oh, okay - it just struck me as odd as sm
I remember seeing it the other day and thought the same thing. When I saw it again today I thought I went back through the whole advertisement trying to make the love of animals connection. Must be a vet clinic or something similar. Ophthalmology isn't my thing, but just happened to notice the ad again and wondered.
This struck me as pretty funny
On another board a company has posted a MT position, stating that the MT must have impeccable grammar, punctuation, and PROOFREADING skills.....but, the name of the company is misspelled.
I'm not at TRX but comment struck a chord.
Just wanted to clarify that I'm not at TRX but had the same feelings you expressed so well, at another company.
It really makes me appreciate the ones who are respectful and have a helpful approach, which sounds like the QA at TRX.
When you struck this deal, did you happen to
You might have grounds for a lawsuit.
If not, I'd just start working my old days and hours. And when asked about it, I'd tell them, 'If you can go back on your word, than so can I'!
Not at all. I just think she has a lot of nerve (sm)
when she left with her tail between her legs. Does she think we don't all know that she was fired from L&H?
I get stressed with the 95% ESL too
and work types that I don't like to do and wasn't hired to do (course I wasn't hired for the 95% ESL either). One day I can handle, 2 days back to back is too much. If I was paid hourly it would be different. I start looking for jobs, send out resumes, post resumes .... I interview, test, ace the tests, everyone is anxious for me to work for their company, but they don't pay squat, I have to punch a clock, do xx lines, etc. I've done this 3 or 4 times the past 5 years and finally decided there just isn't better out there and on the bad days I just need to take a deep breath and keep plugging away. I make good money (not as good as you) but I have to really work to get it and I can't imagine doing this job for any less than I currently make.
You have a lot of nerve!
No, it is NOT just because we lost our jobs that it matters. I can only speak for myself, but as a single mom to 4 children, 3 with special needs (read premature quadruplets, one of whom died)I had to support my family with an income and with health insurance that I could afford and Heartland offered that. No, that is not a good excuse to have made the decision to work for a company that participates in offshoring, however, when it means being able to put food on the table and have my 3 survivors get the medical care they require, I did what I had to do. My point now is, it is time to wake up (myself included) and stand up for what is right. The future of my income and insurance remains to be seen. I see now first hand what kind of an effect this has on the American worker and the American economy. Who knows, maybe I will not be able to afford insurance at another company, maybe I will have to take my children to the emergency room as an uninsured child. How do you think that makes me feel as a parent? What kind of effect does that have on the system?
Just because a company offshores their work, does not mean that you sit around day in and day out and say, Gee, I wonder if I am going to be layed off today. I have worked hard for Heartland, giving them many hours of overtime and fill in time for people who were sick, etc. They had a choice. They could have shut down the typing machines in India and kept the US medical transcriptionists, granted at a higher cost per transcriptionist, but they could have chosen to take the operating costs from the Indian side and applied it to the American side to run the operation. You get what you pay for and in this case, what you don't.
We are human beings just like you, trying to survive in this economy like it is and always trying to put our children's needs ahead of ourselves and yes, sometimes ahead of what we believe in.
Thanks, because I am on my last nerve.
resumes today, and all I can here are the crickets chirping in the background, and all I can see is my workload at a total of 0 jobs. Again. I feel like I am a dead weight to my family. Ugggg.
the nerve
What is this new trend by the MTSOs to pay less in the training period? If anything, that is when you need MORE money. I am starting to feel gouged and pecked by all these creative ways they find to skim off the fat, and I have no intention of ever applying to any such companies who think so low of us.
Hit a nerve?
x
I am sorry I hit a nerve, ooops.
oooops
frantic and stressed
I think it began with taking over another company a few years ago and acquiring their Indian facility. Then trying to change the whole company over to Cornerstone, losing some of their business, introducing VR, low work volumes, many MTs unhappy with the new compensation ... and acquiring CHS. On my last account their, manager said the facility is complaining about too many blanks...then said use the blank more often and produce more.
So sorry you are stressed! I've been with JLG (also from MQ) for a while now
and love it. Maybe you should call and talk to someone there and they can help you out. Good luck to you!
hmmm hit a nerve?
looked again didn't ya? it makes me laugh
You're right, of course. I'm just cranky and stressed. nm
nm
Didn't mean to strike a nerve.
or voicewriter to work for Keystrokes by the recruiter. I just left a big company in Wisconsin. I couldn't get over 900 lines a day because of filling in their DI screen and here it's Christmas. Gimme a break.
Hey Stressed! Glad you got the reply!
I think you'll find it easier than you may think and you'll breeze through it. I write you IF you know who goes to sleep tonight
Apparently I've hit a nerve.
x
definitely a deciding factor there. I am already stressed
with my current situation and huge cut and turned down a few other offers b/c high ESL would be MORE stressful, so good to know. thanks so much for the heads up...are you a TT?
Thanks. I'm a bit stressed after reading the handbook. It looks
very cumbersome and I'm afraid I won't be productive, but I have worked on the account for 5 years so I'm hoping knowing the dictators and their quirks and the account specifics will be enough to help makeup for learning a new platform.
It IS very stressful. I'm so stressed out from the rollercoaster
Last week made good lines, good money. Even got an email that said the slow period was over. This week? Nothing.
I've been doing this hardcore for the past year with different companies even. I can't take it anymore but MT is all I know how to do, been doing it for almost 20 years.
Thanksgiving week
Please don't judge the company on these latest weeks. Docs love to go away on vacation during Thanksgiving because their children are out of school. They are like the rest of us. Except, when they get back they get delinquent notices and all of a sudden you are typing tons of reports to catch up so they do not get suspended. All will balance out. Especially if the company was highly recommended. Keep the other job for Christmas money, but I bet my paycheck (or at least a portion) that this next week and then after Christmas you will wish you had a break! No matter what you do, good luck and enjoy the holidays because when January comes you will probably be very busy at work!
I can't wait until you fall on your face. The nerve of you sm
to think you are better than someone else. You are pathetic. Nothing will come good out of that statment mark my word.
(cont'd) mgmt always pushy and stressed out
x
THANKS MODERATOR!! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
xxxxx
Hey! Too busy with Thanksgiving and company
:-)
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! To those of working and those of us not. (sm)
I am up and at it early, having our Thanksgiving dinner at 5:30 so turkey can cook while I make some much needed Xmas money.
Hope you all have a good one.
I looked at that, thought it didn't look right but was stressed from testing (lol - sorry) nm
Not anymore. I think the nuts have moved on and the owner is less stressed now. I see a sm
a much calmer atmosphere this time around. I've been back just over a year and it is night and day from four years ago.
Ah, just less ESL's so I am not totally mentally exhausted/stressed/hurting all over by end of sh
This job has become more and more difficult/stressful during the past 4 to 5 years -- since outsourcing and voice recognition. I had rather work for less $ any day than get the sloppy dictators/ESL's that the U.S. MT's end up with. Also the doctors whose dictation is not compatible for voice recognition software is being passed on to the MT's.
This job was so fun and exciting about 5 years ago, and I put in MANY extra hours (and made good money) because I did enjoy the job and also the extra money. It seems there is just not enough money offered to pay for the type of dictators/reports that we can get now in this profession. I am probably the only one who feels this way, but I am just being honest.
I think it depends on the account. I always work Thanksgiving sm
Mem Day, Labor Day and New Year's Day and have 4th of July, Easter, Christmas Eve and Christmas off. This is what I volunteer to work, so that might be how all the accounts work. I do radiology so that is why we work holidays.
Slow is normal from Thanksgiving through New Year's. (nm)
x
Give me one too! Imagine the nerve of them expecting you to work your shift.
LOL
Thanksgiving is weeks away, yet no work on TransTech this morning. sm
I have 2 accounts, with no work on either. I used to think they cared, but now I am not so sure. If there is no work now, I have to think the closer it gets to Thanksgiving, it will really be awful.
Litt to no work since Thanksgiving, slow time and overstaffed too????nm
x
I didn't sign up to work Thanksgiving, but I will in the evening for a while at least. I heard s
that so many MTs want to work the morning hours that there will be almost no MTs to cover any evening work. I heard like only about 1.2 MTs per account. If there is work, I'll have it to be sure.
I encountered slow to no work the weeks preceding Thanksgiving and several days after but the past
few days it has picked up. Can I ask which account/accounts your on? I think that makes a difference. Mine are part f the Escription platform. I honestly got really ticked a few weeks ago when we had no work and they were still hiring. For one, it's bad enough when we have to share some of our work with the Indians, but how fair it is to hire these poor people who think they are getting work where there is none. It makes no sense to me either. Why not provide work to your current employees than drive them away by taking on too many new people.
Christmas
Heard on the new last night that Coca-Cola will not be using Santa's image this year on any of their Christmas products. They will use a picture of a polar bear instead.
Nothing for Christmas
The company I have worked for for almost 2 yrs send me a $20 thing of candy. The other company I got nothing, not even a Merry Christmas.
If Only...What I wish for this Christmas.
Reading posts below how so many MTs just wish or hope that they may get some sort of recognition - a bonus or a gift or anything for their hard work for the year. I cannot say how angry I am - steaming mad - to read the derogatory posters who call these hopeful or disappointment MTs childish or greedy. Its so heartbreaking. American workers for decades regularly received Christmas bonuses in every single industry, period. We all did. Our parents did and our grandparents did. If they didn't, that probably meant they were the bosses or business owners, and they happily were the ones giving out the bonuses or gifts to their beloved workers. THIS IS SICK that other MTs can bash those who still have hope, or those who desperately need the $$, anything. A lowsy $25 gift card might feed their kids for a day. Yet its A-OK in our country that the CEOS and our OWN BOSSES get 6 and 7-figure Christmas bonuses every year, whether they run our companies into the ditch or not. They aren't called greedy or childish. We continue to work ourselves to the point of breaking 24/7, and darn sure do have the right to hold out the most meager of hopes that yes, MTs, there is a Santa Claus, he does care, and maybe we might get a $25 token of appreciation from our employers, who are darn tootin' making a boat load of greenbacks thanks to our labors. Merry Christmas, and I wish if I were rich that I could find a list of all US MTs and send each and every one, newby or seasoned pro, a $25 gift card and a Christmas card. I truly wish I could do that. Maybe someday I will. Don't be ashamed to hope for a present - good grief we get nothing else, nothing.
Christmas
It is coming....already spent mind....
Are you allowed to say Christmas?
Pretty soon, everything is becoming so politically correct, we won't be allowed to use the word Christmas anymore. Maybe they were insulted - you should have sent a holiday card instead.
But, no - I don't think I've seen a Christmas card or bonus in years. Boy, in the good old days at MQ, a few years back, we actually used to have Christmas parties - imagine that!
