Since you're planning to have a baby

a couple of years from now, you might also want to consider opening a flexible spending or a medical spending account and put some money aside on your own. Not to tie you to the computer 24/7, but perhaps you can pick up an account locally on your own and set the money aside.
This business is unstable with offshoring, buyouts, lost accounts and the fluctuating workload. You're smart to plan ahead, but I wouldn't exclusively rely on an employer. Is your husband's insurance another resource? Good luck to you.

If you're planning on working as
You might want to brush up your computer skills, etc. As the other poster mentioned, as an IC you are basically self-employed and marketing your business to that provider.
OT isn't something you can count on. Are you planning

I'm planning on quitting too. sm
I liked the idea of working for a smaller company and one that didn't offshore. I worked for a BIG company that offshored, and I didn't like it. Actually it started out as Edix, then Spheris came in and took over, and it all went down hill after that. Once I found out they sent to India, I quit. I'll be doing the same with MDI, probably after September, since I already submitted my September work schedule. Good luck to all the MDI transcriptionists.
They are planning to bail on other company
that was in employee newsletter
Been with Keystrokes for 4+ years and not planning on going anywhere
I type Radiology and the Company is great just scroll down and you will find lots of info on Keystrokes.
Planning your time is very important
You don't have to be an MTSO to be an IC. You can have your own accounts and not contract work out to others. It is possible to do that and make money. No one needs to work that many hours in a day unless you are not managing your time properly.
I'm not planning on jumping ship, either. sm
The stress of changing companies is far too much for me that the stress of working more to pay the added cost. Less strain on the nerves to stay and just put in some extra time.
I am not sure about what big change they think but if you read the Qmail MQ is planning on having
work back to the client in very short order which is why they are hiring like they are. They are trying to hang onto accounts by providing almost a nonexistent TAT and that means multiple back up accounts to keep work. You do know that there are to be only 3 offices of MQ all running the same way and that is why we are being transferred and all offices are closing. You will also be transferred to one of the 3 main offices unless you already work in them and then you will understand what is going on. Only the people that have been transferred truly understand right now. The only thing that will change that will be a lot of people will leave MQ because of lack of work and multiple accounts or the new pay plan is not what they want. This is my view of the change that is taking place and it is happening very rapidly.
I want to clarify something... i have no clue what they are planning in the upcoming days... and it

MT all the way baby. sm
Why on earth would I be management anywhere. Anyone who is a quality MT and gets good line counts knows being paid on production and being eligible for OT is far more profitable than being management. None of the nationals pay squat for management. If you figure management is on call pretty much 24/7, they make less than minimum wage most places. I will always be an MT, production is how I like paid and I like being paid for OT, not being exempt like the managers are.
Run, baby, run
I quit working for Spheris about 6 months ago (after 5 years). Cannot believe how miserable they had made me...
Loving new company... should have quit long time ago!!!
Puff up, baby!
Put on your face, get back in the race. The Lord wouldn't want you moping around. Get out there. Wal-Mart has openings. It doesn't have to be a permanent thing. Work till something comes along. Get out of the house. NEVER GIVE UP!

I don't know who you are....but, I just sent an SOS to OSi to bring attention to your posts here. You are incredibly foolish and immature to come here making such statements and dropping names and phone numbers. I don't know anything about OSI, but I do know that you have really crossed the line here. You are obviously not very bright because of your improper usage of several words in your post...and misspelled words as well.
If you actually do work for OSI, they are going to know who you are once they read your posts and your 'good thing' will come to an end. If I were in management there, I'd fire you on the spot for what you have done here. You are pathetic.
Work it, baby.
NO. You can't just get a raise just 'cause. Our government works that way, but this is not the basis of good, old, happy capitalism, which our grand country was founded upon.
There are different levels for different pay, and the way to move up in line count is clearly outlined for the MTs. If you're unwilling to do what's required to get the raise, do you think they should just give it to you? They're not just trying to get you to jump through a hoop to give you a raise. They're trying to help you become a better transcriptionist. If you never did anything to better yourself (get your CMT, work on a harder account), you would stay stagnated in your same position. Learn the harder work! It will not only give you a raise, you'll be more marketable, and you'll earn respect and be less replaceable. Some companies don't ever offer raises, no matter what you do, so this is not a bad deal!
No, they're not going to do it. You have to prove that you are worth it. MTs are a dime a dozen, and you HAVE to show them you're in 1st place out of 12. Don't just do what they're asking to move up. Do MORE than that. Increase your production. Volunteer to help newbies. Get your CMT.
It's worth the effort, and so are you!
sad that you think wanting a baby is
completely unnecessary. I worked for an IVF clinic and I would not call it a crap shoot, either - cold, cold, cold.......
I had a baby in December (sm)
I had a baby in December and did not qualify for FMLA because you have to get at least 25 hours a week or so many hours average for the year. I do not know if this is different from state to state, but this was true for me. I did get a 6 week unpaid leave of absence because I did not have any PTO. I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and was off starting the end of October and had to come back to work 9 days after my baby was born.
If you qualify for FMLA you can get up to 12 weeks, but I think you still have to use PTO or sick time to get paid. The best thing is to check with your human resource department where you work. By the way, congrats if you are pregnant!
Vegas, baby!
And proud of it baby. Laugh is on you lol

Not baby with bathwater at all. She is an intelligent MT
They do double talk at MDI. But their supporters are probably favorites or mgmt. There are plenty of people who have been messed up by this company's revolving door and double talk. I am one of them and I see others on this board as well. If this poster is throwing any bathwater it is to clean the misrepresentation and expose the clean honest truth.
In these days of low work, I wish EVERYONE would go have a baby, go on sm
vacation, get your bunions fixed, etc., and leave more work for me!
I don't understand the anger towards people on maternity leave, but as a 50-year-old happily menopausal old woman, I'm also not too flattered with the nasty little cobwebs in the womb retort by someone. I do not resent women who want to have babies -- better them to deal with all of that than me. I can barely handle taking care of myself and my doggie, so hats off to you.
Seems lately that we are all kind of sniping at each other and we forget that we are all in this together. I know that times are tough -- I'm feeling it myself -- but that's when we should bond together and support one another.
Anyone want to join me in a round of Cumbaya? Or even better, the Barney song?
Wrong baby. More and More new accounts. sm
Lots of work, lots of new accounts, overtime is getting offered more and more. Don't know why the other person left but been here 2 years and lovin it!
Yeah, Baby, lots of ESLs
ZZZZzzzzzz
Oh, poor baby -- horrible pregnancy - adopt
I had CANCER -- that is just nothing to you pregnant woman, huh ????? I got NOTHING from company.
It is DISCRIMINATION!!!!
Hmmm... Work 4 months, get 4 weeks paid baby....sm
vaction - quite a sweet deal ... while the rest of us are struggling with monumentous premiums (financing a newbie's love/sex life not my idea of fair play). Many of us haven't gotten a single day of PTO, (thanks to the line requirement to meet when there is no/low work) and most of have been here much longer than 4 months.
Hope you're enjoying those slave wages you're earning.

So you guys feel you're getting paid what you're worth with VR?
I'm not trying to be snarky. I've never done VR, so I'm trying to understand.
You're happy with your paycheck with VR? Do you find the files to be as bad as the original post implied?
So you're telling me, basically, they're bad news?
They offered me 0.095/line and you know - it sounded too good to be true, but I SWEAR the recruiter told me they do not outsource. Oh brother... I just wish they'd be honest. I really don't know what to do.

s
No, they're not losing money....they're gaining!
If a company charges their clients by the line, I'm sure that line rate does not go down even though the MTs pay does.
ASR pays about 2/3 normal line rate to its MTs. Their ultimate goal is to have the MTs do twice as much work. Therefore, the client is getting their work faster, but paying their normal rate, while corporate gets that money and the MTs get the lower line rate.
Whether the newbies want to realize it or not, MTSOs have not increased MTs' salaries in the past 10 years. They still start out at the same pay as the last century!
This used to be a very lucrative profession. Nowadays, most MTs are considered to be paid at the poverty level. You don't believe me, look it up!
Hey, you're in luck then. They're hiring! (nm)

now we're getting somewhere....
Great qualities... absolutely. Can you be more specific. What type of communication do you think works? What doesn't? Concern is also important. But how far should it go. Certainly a company needs to be understanding if an MT has some problems, but remembering it is not the company's job to take care of someone, what about when the MT is not producing or working when scheduled? How long do you let it go on? What if the MT has chronic problems. What is the company's role here?
I can say my boss was ALWAYS flexible with my schedule, but I also made sure that I made up the time and the lines. I didn't abuse it.
You're better off
Someone else will appreciate your abilities.
You're welcome; here's what I can tell you ...
Spheris' family insurance is with United Healthcare and the premium for family coverage is about $180 per payperiod (2-weeks).
As far as PTO with Spheris, as a FT employee, you would earn 10 days a year for your first 5 years of service, then it goes up from there.
I hope that gives you a guideline to go by.
If you're looking for
and to be treated well, then you will like TT. They really are the best company I've ever worked, for and I've worked for more than a few. In this business of never meeting who you work for and not knowing what you're getting in to until it's too late, they are a breath of fresh air. They always pay on time, pay what they say they will pay, are very kind and honest. Good luck.
you're right...sm
when I was in school, for MA, not MT, my instructor said the ones taking the MT class were just waisting their time. I worked as an MA until I got pregnant, then worked as an MT after my son was born. I'm gonna ride it out as long as it's available. Then, hopefully I won't be too old to do something else!
Is it possible that you're having another
