'I also have a side business where I deal with the Mayor, City Council, and various others in government and they all write like me too!'

What kind of mayor, city council or govermment is this ??

Using correct grammar and spelling is 'pettiness' for you?

Where are you from?

I stop now.

Dang, I must've struck a cord here.  Why would it matter what city I live in?  I do business all over the Tri-State area and it's like this with every municipality I deal with when it's correspondence in an email/text or in a forum setting (both ways).  (This following questions are not directly pointed at you, but are a generality):  Do you text?  Do you spell out every single word (no abbreviations), make sure the punctuation is perfect, and police it yourself before you send it?  Does it really change what you are saying if there is a mistake?  Will the world come to an end?  Come on now, striving for perfection is one thing but actually achieving it is a whole 'nother story and pretty much unobtainable, and putting that expectation onto someone else just isn't fair.  I read books and see typos and incorrect grammar use on multiple oocasions in every book I read.  Newspapers and magazines, too.  Do I write the publisher/author/proofreader and let them have it?  Did it ruin it for all the other authors/publishers/proofreaders because it's out in public print and oh my gosh, someone might see the mistakes?  Honestly, people.  Come on.

The thing that hurts the MT community the most isn't the misuse of grammar or spelling errors on a forum board; it is this bickering and nitpicking on here.  It's shameful to the TX community.  It really, really is.  This should be a place for all who embrace the MT or TX (legal, law enforcement & general TX) community to come together and support each other, not tear others down because they feel justified in doing so.  It's so easy to sit behind a monitor and be a cyber bully, but it's just as easy to say something supportive, and if that can't be done, not say anything and walk away.  No one here is better than anyone else.  We all put our pants on the same way.

In my correspondence with these municipalities, it is relaxed for the most part on both sides - yes, in written communication (email/text/cyber meeting), other than in a formal letter or contract.  The pettiness I speak of is not the use of correct grammar and spelling; the pettiness is the way that some people on here attack others and are just out of control with nitpicking every little grammatical/spelling mistake.  I understand the nitpickers can't help it - it is a part of their personality  - one that they are stuck with, but they really should try not to subject everyone else to it.  It's okay to express freedom of speech, but please do it in a kind way.  Think before you hit send - Is this really worth it?  Do I have to come off like a jerk?  Does it really matter?  How would I feel if this was said to me.  I learned a long time ago to think before I speak, especially blindly to people I don't think I will never meet.  First, this world is incredibly small and this field is even smaller.  You may run into the person you were vicious to in the most unexpected circumstance (job fair, community gathering, kid's birthday party) and start chatting.  Next thing you know, you find common ground and the convo gets around to this site.  Bing!  Light bulb goes on and your any chance of a job or potential contact is right out the window.  In my business, it happens all the time, especially due to the access of the internet.

Second, you don't know what the person attacked may be going through, what they've been through, or how fragile their psyche may be.  Some may think that these derragatory and harsh words written in these comments are harmless, but if the person they're directed to is fragile emotionally, this could be very detrimental and harmful to their self-esteem, but then again, some people are just bullies by nature and this is the only way they know how to communicate, and they get off on being mean and hurtful.  Shame on them.
