QA Question

Today, my boss called me and told me I have been doing a wonderful job and they were going to have to add another QA person to the staff and they couldn't think of a better person to add than me. I am quite flattered, I have no prior experience with QA.
It wasn't a job offer and there was no discussion of pay or anything along those lines, it was basically a thought it progress that she shared with me.
My question is, can someone explain the QA pay scale to me? I saw a job posted on the job seekers board once that said the QA pay for that particular job was salary $800 per 2 weeks. Okay, so that is a lot less than what I make now. When QA is on salary is it generally a 40-hour week and do you no longer do any transcription or do you generally do transcription as well?
My boss was really complimenting my work and I did not want to seem ungrateful and start asking about pay and such, although of course I will when it is a definite thing, but I was just wondering for myself. It would seem that QA would make more than that, right?
