workman's comp
Carpal tunnel is a worker's comp case as it is caused by the job. You have to claim it as such and open a comp case. Disability covers any other medical reason for missing work other than job related.

Can you file a work comp claim
If you are an employee, you can file a worker's compensation claim, and the company has to follow the rules of the state the insurance company would consider jurisdiction. As a former workers' compensation claim handler, MQ is legally bound to have your claim handled wihtout any issues. If you have issues you have the right to go to the state workers' compensation board for assistance.
I think I work for the comp. with an M that you mention but they are the ones I made more with than
I had previously at another job..huh?? I do notice a discrepancy in accounts. On one account, I get a great line but when I tried another one of their accounts I was not making the same..not even close. I questioned it and was told that the way it is counted is per the hospital/client's contract and they set the rules. So, I just assumed that that facility got a contract that paid for less things than my main account. You can email me privately if you'd like to compare accounts. Trust me, I wont share with anyone. I have had more than my share of issues with this company and am seeking to move on. Good line count or not, sometimes it is just not worth it.
I didn't work there way back in 2005, so
I can't comment on your personal experience, but for me in 2008:
1. If you run out of work, you are paid downtime. You can do backup acounts also. Not sure about the written consent but there are a lot of us who work on other accounts.
2. Sample reports: The program allows you to bring up previously typed reports by experienced MTs by doctor, patient, report type, etc., so the MT has endless samples.
3. Supervisor currently, from what I can tell anyhow, has a lot of contact with hosital including informing them of problem dictators and other issues that directly impact the MT's production, etc.
4. I think they changed the insurance to cover out-of-area employees, but don't quote me on that.
Personally I've had a very good experience with the FL account. Nothing is perfect, but I'm very satisfied.

I did speak with my manager. Work was promised. No work there when I needed to work.
I see the reports everyday too, but when I get work it is of bad quality, then there is no work unless I work diffrent shifts. Thank you.
I work Mon-Fri and occasional weekends as needed but have done this
by choice. I have never been forced to work a weekend. I am a high producer. I don't complain or take up any time of my Lead. I have only had one report rejected ever on this account and it was transposing patient numbers. I double-check now. I started at $1.10 per report, make $1.25 now and $1.81 per report for holidays. I only worked one holiday last year, the 4th of July, because they took volunteers first.
I am FT days but will work in the evenings if needed. Those days I have had 200-250 reports so it was worth it to me, but I try not to so I don't burn out.
I was told when they needed help and that is when they expected me to work
so it is possible she was told what days and times, as that is pretty much what they said to me. Then work was never available during that time slot and so I opted to move on.
I haven't needed more work - there is plenty on my acct

That is they have LOTS of different insurance plans. typo on last post. sorry. nm

SPi New Comp Plan
Hey, just posted a reply but haven't seen it post, so if this is a duplicate, I apologize! I've been with SPi since December and was hired under the comp plan that you guys are discussing and it's actually a very good plan. While I am not paid for spaces, most companies don't pay for spaces anyway, but the good thing is that I was given a higher line rate to compensate for that. I interviewed with other companies before I decided to work for SPi and the reason I chose SPi was not only the great line rate but that the benefits start after 30 days, and who can beat free vision and dental! I was going to have to pay for that myself everywhere else and couldn't even get it until I had worked a minimum of 3 months at other places. The other cool thing was that I got paid for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! I am not going anywhere....
spi comp plan
Let's face it, they made this compensation plan to help their bottom line, not the MTs...and anyone who is breaking even, you are the lucky ones!!
I want to know if anyone is making more than last year with this company!!! Other than account managers and other management, that is..did they take a hit in their paychecks?????
RE: SPI COMP PLAN
I seem to be making quite a bit less with this new plan. It is taking a lot more hours to get the line count compared to what we use to have to do.
wrk-mans comp and disability ins q's.
can a MT employee get workmans comp for developing carpal tunnel synd?
If one carries disability insurance, is that for any disability, ie, (not related to job) from a car accident, recreational time injury, etc.? thanks.
Company with VA comp and pens?
I saw an ad some time ago from a company looking for MTs to work on VA comp and pens. I've been working a VA account the past few years and love the comp and pens but the amount of those seems to be dwindling on the account for some reason, probably going over to voice or more people working on them. Just wondered if anyone remembered which company that was. Thanks!
There are not very many negatives, it is just that those of us with positive experiences at ANY comp

I have been with MDI-MD since the end of 2005 - and I
totally agree with the comments by anon. I enjoy working for them. Fantastic, caring people to work for. Communication is excellent and far above what I have experienced in the past. Replies are practically instantaneous via email with any questions, problems, etc., you might have to the liaison of your account - same with telephone help via technical support. Have normal slow-downs in work over the Holidays, but I'm kept extremely busy on a daily basis on the account that I'm on - usually doing more than my commitment, though not required to do so. Should there ever be a lack of work on my account and I wanted an additional account, all I would need to do is ask. Please note -- I am on ONE ACCOUNT -- not 5, 10, or more !! Since being hired, I can honestly say that I now love being a medical Transcriptionist again - something I had lost during my prior 12 years with another company :o)
MDI-FL Any 2005 MDI-FL MTs still around who can
Transcend took over MDI-FL in January of 2005. Is there anyone who transferred to Transcend from MDI-FL in 2005 that is still working for Transcend or can remember back then, and could shed some light on how the transition went and answer some of the questions like:
1. Did your cpl change? Higher? Lower?
2. Did you have to go to a set schedule?
3. Did you get to stay on the same accounts that you had at MDI-FL?
Any other information you could share would sure be great.
Thank you.
Occuational Health reports/Workmen's comp
Do you think 8.5 cpl is good pay for these type reports. I am accustomed to acute care work but was offered a job doing occupational health or workmen's comp reports, which are 2 to 3 line reports. Do you think this is productive work or would it take all day to get 1200 lines.
WEBMEDX - NO RETURN ON COMP DEPOSIT - 3 MONTHS
It's been 3 months since I left the company, and I have not received my computer deposit yet. I called and talked with HR and Accounts Payable, who promised me a check weeks ago. I called today and was told they had a snag -- no one to sign checks, providing me with a lame excuse about having to send the checks to ATL next week, etc., etc. NOT MY PROBLEM -- You took the money out of my check, now send it back since your computer was returned in good condition. (Not to mention that I have not received my last paycheck -- haven't pursued that because it's less than $5).
Also -- when I worked for the company, the accounts (3 hospitals) continually ran out of work. I was to give WEBMEDX 12 hours out of my day, checking every 30 minutes to see if there was work, and then sign off if there was no work so as not to abuse the minimum wage laws (i.e. so they would not have to pay me). This was the worse experience I have ever had with a transcription service. HORRIBLE!!

Sorry. It has to be me. I did exactly what you said and all it has is 2004 and 2005.

s
I cannot answer for February of 2005.
I was not employed there then. I have been there a little over 2 years. I can say when I started at Axolotl there were maybe 10 to 15 acute care MTs. We have more than doubled in size since then. I do know that if we had work outsourced to other companies, we would not have the amount of work to transcribe that is always here.
Axolotl is also an EMR provider and if you go to their website you can read all about that area of their business.
In my 15 years of being a trancriptionist, I have never found a better company to work for and this is why:
1. They treat their MTs like they should be treated.
2. They compensate MTs the way they should be compensated.
3. The platform is great.
4. We do not run out of work and they do not overhire.
5. They offer great benefits.
6. Great management and editors.
After reading so many horror stories on this site about some of the nightmares other MTs have gone through with other companies, plus the fact I have had a few myself, I am BLESSED to find such a great company.
You are still wrong, I'm sorry; that manual is from 2005 sm
All the managers sent out information saying it was at their discretion. Instead of posting here, why don't you just ask your manager if it is true?
