There is one thing no amount of money will ever buy ......
But... then again, that pretty much goes without saying.
The knowledge thing is right on the money
I never went over to using the so called hot keys, made it this long without so no use in using now. How you like it when they say newbies only like? I think the ones protesting so much don’t want to give up their templates, all their Expanders because then they might have to think about what they are reading and make corrections. Yeh for VR.
The first thing I point out is that
you have to go to school for it, learn medical terminology, medication dosages, diagnoses, biology, etc. They think it's just typing.
I'm with them. Good work environment, easy accounts and I'm making really good money. nm
Most companies going to VR, so not just a TT thing. -- more money in their pockets, less in ours.
Regretfully true, but there is NO WAY an MT can earn as much doing editing because you can't make twice as much for a long time after the machine gets to understanding the doctor. DocQScribe's editing platform is the only one that I have seen that was MT-friendly. Great money to be made on that platform, but as with all editing platforms, another new doctor comes onboard and the machine has to get to know his voice, so another slow down in editing.
It is definitely NOT a gain to the MT. Why do you think these companies would be changing over to VR/editing ????
FUNNIEST THING..they all think you're making all this big money (LMAO) -nm
About money, line rate is one thing, but hourly figures are another sm
Traditional: 8.5 cents per line. Top out at 225. $19.25 an hour.
Speech: 4.5 cents per line. Top out at 500. $22.50 an hour.
I split between the two and right now, that is running $700 a week or $36K a year. Not a huge salary, I know, but more than I made 10 years ago.
Could I push harder? Sure, but I don't need the money because I have structured my life so that I only need 1/2 my income to live on and I live alone. I like the part about not being exhausted on my days off, about being able to give up a terrible PT job, and having time to paint AND be able to have expensive, high-quality art supplies.
I am happy as a clam and I do not think that VR will take my job!!!! My only worry right now is that my painting is taking off with art shows, commissions and internet sales. I won't be able to work full time as an MT if this keeps up, and I know it will. I love being an MT and when it ends in favor of my artwork, I will be joyous over one and very much saddened over the other. It is and has been a wonderful career for me.

You all have a point. I forget how this at-home thing works. I used to work in-house at a hospital.
and... we got paid extra for working holidays and even weekends and evenings. I am new to this at-home thing and it's pretty disappointing. I think I'm back to the hospital..
good thing it is a temporary thing sm
because people with your attitude don't stay in anything very long anyway. Nobody has to listen to that crap to keep their job.
You don't know me either. you can say old fart all you want (when did 53 get to be old fart....too funny) but at least I am a valuable employee who can get a decent job!
Had the same happen here, heard the same thing, good references and good ....sm
job record will get you better $$$ if you are willing to promote yourself, search like crazy, talk to everyone, etc., but I have never been paid a cent more for CMT, what a waste, and all the years I paid my dues to AAMT, what a joke, they did NOTHING to better our field, just took the money for better conventions, as far as I can see.
You won't see your money. Come together and get her shut down for good.
,
Are you making good money there?
Me 3, made good money with less cpl than now. nm
xxxxx
Used to make good money
My income has dropped by $20,000 in the past 2 years working at Spheris, and from what I understand new hires get paid even less.
Is there good money to be made at Transtech? nm
nm
Good luck and I hope you get your money!! nm
x
Good luck to you! You will be fine if you don't need much money
I am about to leave. The QA department is horrible, tired of being harrassed on my days off, server constantly down, cannot get a straight answer from management, technical staff have no knowledge.
I know there is a better fit for me!
Its sad that we dont believe MTs can make good money at this job....
In the past 7 years that I have been an at-home IC (left my hospital job), I have made no less than $50k and this year, will hit my all-time high of $62K. There are still good accounts out there, with great dictators that pay .10 to .11 cpl and if you are fast, with great macros and expanders, you can still make $40-$50/hr. Experience and reliability are what get you top dollar and there are companies willing to pay. Its sad we doubt those that make the good money. Maybe there is a tad bit of jealousy there!
Everyone has a different definition of good money. Mine is 50K or more.
x
I don't struggle. I make good money.
But then again I have been doing this for 21 years, work for a national at nearly top pay. Not sure why the ones who are complaining do it. Well...actually I do think I know why SOME do it. They got fooled by the false advertising of MT schools. Work at home and make $50,000 per year. Yeah right. Not right out of school, nope! That would be the RARE case. And even being able to work from home right away would be difficult IMO. I learned SO MUCH from my coworkers during those first 10 years when I worked in office and in house at the hospital. All of that on the job experience made a big difference when I went home to work. Had I started working from home with just my MT school education....I would probably hate it too.
good money but consistently run out of work??
/
I make far more money on VR. I also get paid a good SM
line rate for it, so that helps. I am paid 7 cpl for VR.
Good luck. I was treated this way and I'm still out my money SM
And so is everyone else. Basically you will never see the money unless you HAVE money to hire an attorney and take her to court. Karma will take care of her for taking advantage of u.
You said it: "They made good money."
I don't mind working hard if I am getting paid accordingly. Doctors and nurses make good money to work weekends. My sister even gets a very nice shift differential for working evenings, nights, and weekends. I get none of that. I get the same 7 cpl regardles of when I work. Hardly seems worth the $12-13 an hour I make to give up the precious little time on the weekends I get to spend with my family. Guess each just has their own priorities in life and mine is not work.
Good point.
I agree with you. What you do is between you and your manager. If you can type like the wind (and maintain quality) you deserve to reap the rewards.
The day someone tells you to slow down because someone else isn't getting enough lines, well, then I don't think we'd be living in a democratic country any longer, but rather under some other regime's rule.
Good point!
Good point.
nm
Yes, good point!
.
Very good point!
There are sooooo many TT posts on here that all of the other posts get buried underneath them, and at least half of them probably never get seen or answered. I am so glad that I don't work at TT!
Good point!!! LOL
Good point. Thank you. NM
Goldbird
Yes, that's a good point, but that is
the exception, not the rule.
That's a good point
That's very true! But, now I feel horrible, because there are people with no work and lots of people waiting for work, and I would be an additional transcriptionist, causing there to be less work for the day shift! I know you all love the place those of you at TT, that is why I thought I'd wait a while so when things calm down, perhaps I can reapply...
LOL ... good point.
nm
good point
coco about them seeing it. Mine, however, sometimes becomes distorted and into computer speak rendering it unreadable when I paste it. I'm sure that gets thrown away quickly.
Good point. So what is up with that?
Are people losing their jobs and thus insurance and so canceled their elective surgeries? Or are they so worried about job loss/insecurity that they put off treatment or going to the doctor? Whaddya think?
You have a good point.
Like I said in my last post - I was having a pity party. I apologize for that statement.
good point
Never thought to ask. I shouldn't have said it seems unfair...bad choice of words. javascript:editor_insertHTML('text','');
Very good point!! nm

That's a really good point....
Who, exactly, are women flaunting their body to? I find it so bizarre the way some women feel this need to flaunt themselves to strange men. What good comes from flaunting yourself to random men? It makes no sense. A women is like a pearl. The most beautiful part is on the inside. Why not save your best for your man/your family? Why not cover yourself and be respected for your intellect, your personality? I can really see why so many women in this country have issues with body image. The reason is that we have placed so much emphasis on this...on the outside.
Also, just an FYI, the black dress worn in Saudi is called abaya. Generally, a headscarf is referred to as hijab in Arabic; however, hijab is not only a headscarf, it is the way you carry yourself, your attitude. The verse in Quran prescribing hijab for women is also followed by a direction for men, as well. There are, believe it or not, quite a lot of women who wear a headscarf who are not Muslim (or Christian or Jewish). Here is a youtube video of one such woman describing why she wears it -- it's quite interesting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0SsYD2yRsk
Interesting and long, good money makers! nm

Glad you are happy. You making good money there? sm
as well?
You were given too many specialties/accts to make any good money.
s
Keystrokes clinic MTs, do you make good money?
IME it's hard to make good money doing clinic when paid by the line; some of the notes are only two sentences long. Just wondering if it's any better at Keystrokes, i.e., good combination of short and long notes.
I make good money with them and love working there. sm
Here is why: I have one account with a backup account that I have only used twice and both times because they needed help not because my primary was slow. I do 1600+ lines in 8 hours. I started at 8 cpl and was raised to 9 cpl at 90 days. I have as much work as I want and while my PTO days are less than the last place I was for 8 years, I make more during the year. I literally made $17K more with KS last year than I did with MQ the year before. I am higher this year.
I love Chartscript. The account I am on is wonderful and yes, I use ShortHand with it.
Good to me? I made $61K last year with them and so far this year, I am at $56K, so I will pass that for sure.
No to paid holidays but if you work them, it is time and a half.
If my account needs extra help, they offer time and a half for weekends.
I would rather work for less per line and be able to do more lines than make more per line but struggle to get 1000 lines in a day.
There are nay-sayers for KS. They are strict on quality and expect everyone to work their schedule. Not all accounts are great, but that's anywhere. The only people I know who left were either let go for either quality or not working their shift or they quit because their lead was about to fire them.
Good point! Horrible mgt.
They speak out of both sides of their mouths.
You made a very good point.
As patients, we need to be more proactive with our medical records by asking to inspect them every now and then. I have a close friend who was an independent contractor that tried to get health insurance on her own and was denied by several different companies. She finally found out that there was a diagnosis of cancer made in one of her medical records that was made in error. She finally found out that her doctor never proofread his reports and it was transcribed on one of documents, but she had to jump through hoops by providing all sorts of documentation to prove she didn't have cancer. It took investigation by the insurance companies to bring this mistake to light, but just imagine the mistakes that are not caught because of our medical records not being regularly examined. I think we, as PAYING clients of these physicians, should start demanding more accountability and accuracy in our records.
From the point I found out about my friend's problem I've been asking to see my medical records at least twice a year. My family does the same. Maybe it's time we start spreading the word.
You make a good point..
You know what, you're right. An experienced GOOD MT will hit the ground running and not need their hand held. I'm sure an experienced, good MT is worth their weight in gold and SHOULD be paid more. There should be a way to do that, and if all those companies out there that are crying because they can't get experienced MTs would compensate in a way that is perceived as more fair, people would be beating a path to their door. The only thing that bothers me is the assumption that all MTs with many years experience are good at what they do. I've seen with my own eyes that this is not the case. Some of them don't seem to even know proper English usage. Why should that person be paid more just because they've put in X number of years? I guess it just reminds me too much of the labor union seniority systems that protect and reward the mediocre. I didn't mean to offend anyone with my post above; just wanted to give another perspective. If I were sitting where you are, I'd probably feel the same way. The MT profession has been eroding for years, and it's got to be tough on those who were part of the good old days of being an MT when they felt reasonably rewarded for their expertise.
This is a really good point. First impressions mean a lot.
Mine of Keystrokes is not a good one.
