Philippine MTs doing great jobs?

Has anyone here edited a transcription job by a Filipino? I was surprised to find out that my friend has been editing transcription jobs from Philippines. When I asked him how these people are doing, he said these people are doing great especially with accuracy. He said he finds it easy working with them. I guess I am worried hearing these kinds of news.

Fantastic! I keep thinking maybe we should start posting what companies or situations for MTs are positive, why and what it is we like about the company/situation, and not give all the negative companies so much attention. Obviously though MTs appreciate being warned away from bad situations. I just think there needs to be more of a middle ground, somehow being part of the solution and not part of the problem with all the negativity. Again congratulations!

This is what i mean by you pilot your life, your life shouldnt just be floating you thru life. Over the course of about 2 years, I have made conscious effort to make my life work for me. Figured out what platforms I like, what type accts. What kind of equipment works best for me, how to efficiently handle docs and files. In word based platform, I am Speedy Gonzales as far as how I get in and out, how I process docs. Still spend same amount of time on actual edit and type, those you can only do so fast and be correct but all other aspects, I am fast. You find your fit, which is not a one size fits all. But, working 2 jobs is not the territory of onlyl the MT world. My dad did it while my mom also worked as RN.

dedicating themselves to knowlegdge and producing correct, Grade A reports, then how about paying us as the highly-trained, skilled, hard-wokring, tecnical, workers we are....we are expected to always stay abreast of every medical procedure, drug, medical instrument, operatative procedure, and special procedures, in every specialty (especially for those of us doing acute care and surgical, also radiology/nuclear medicine), we must update references, computes, learn new platforms, train our ears to decipher the SLOPPIEST, LAZIEST, RUDEST dictating physicians, not to mention all the various dialects and accents from all over the world, have superior knowlegein grammar, punctuation, and style....there are highly-paid executives who cannot keep up with what we do, honestly. We have sold ourselves short for way too long, back when I first came home out of hospital, I was lucky to get 6.5cpl, back in 1994, doing all acute care, had 7 different hospitals, we were one of the first live systems. I was out of work, and after getting my associates, being a part of the AAMT (who never helped me personally), 28 years of in-house training, radiology, surgery, etc., it took me months to get someone to pay me what my knowlege/dedication/experience warranted, I still had MTSOs offering 6 and 7 cpl......what??? and I am an IC right now! I finally found an MTSO who is paying 12cpl, and I work my tail off for her, love the company, but I still believe by and large that we are being fed CRUMBS OFF THE TABLE. How do I know? I have a friend who has a company with 75 MTs, I see what she bills and what she pays, and I also know what other companies are making off our backs. Not all MTSOs, to be sure, but most. And remember MTSOs, a lot of us old-timers who were trained in hospital and college, are going to retire, if you want to attract really good young MTs for your company, you had better take a better look at your bottom line and what you are investing in...IMHO!

Are MTs that are looking for jobs finding good jobs right now with everyone looking or is it
getting more difficult to find a good job. I am most interested in jobs for experienced MTs with more than 10 years service. I wonder if it is better to put a resume on or just keeping applying or what is the best way to go about this.
Look at all the jobs on the jobs boards.
You can find a job and won't have to apply for unemployment. You would be surprised how many companies need qualified MTs! Go get 'em and get 'em now!
Don't wait until the 11th hour. Too many needs to put your hat in the unemployment slot.

when you are out of work, you are out of luck. If you are good at brown-nosing, are tough enough to be without any self-esteem, and have maybe money coming into the household on the side in case you tick someone off, then you may succeed, for a little while.
Don't ever ask questions or have problems with anything. Don't ever have a problem. Don't think you will have any control over anything you do, either.
A few 'good' managers remained when I left, but the new ones were all from the old Edix, and were completely into numbers, cared nothing for individual MTs...if there is work, you BETTER be working. If there no work, you will hear nothing, no one will help you.
You are pathetic! I have a great life, loving family, work for a great company.

I will add that getting a great pay check every other Friday from Medware really puts a huge smile on my face.
Oracle is great. Bayscribe is wonderful great line counts.
The trainer at OTI will always answer any questions about the platform and if you have any problems they have already worked them out, so just ask. Good luck!

I've just started with this great company (eMTS). I have 11+ years of experience and I was started at .10 per line as a regular employee, not IC, with a huge sign-on bonus, full benefits, very nice people, and a good account. So far, this is the best experience I've had in my years as a transcriptionist. Unfortunately, I don't believe they're hiring more right now, but you could always check in with them, they're online at eMTS.com. The management seems to really care and they work with you.

I use to work there. The dictators on my account were really good. They use Emdat/Inscribe. Pay on 1st and 15th by direct deposit.
That''s great and I've heard they pay great as well.
I just have heard a lot of adjectives for a few accounts - zinger, killer, impossible, etc., and I sure know I couldn't hack it there. But I'm sure they know what they are getting into when they sign up. 
Great little company..I worked there for a short time, IC, and pay always on time, great owner too!
I had good dictators, they use FTP, and I had a 12-hour window to return the work.
Started small; great company. Rapid growth; not so great company
First year I was there was like heaven. Then the big growth spurt when they hired managers from another company (that I had run away from before because of their bad management) and let them kind of take over. Although I have no proof it was as though I got 'bumped' by these new people when they came in and I lost a good account, good manager, etc. My paycheck went down every month lower and lower, and it became harder and harder to make my minimal lines. Having any kind of advocate was nonexistent.
It depends on you and what kind of MT you are. Seems to me there are pretty much 2 types...
Sports like basketball where you have the pros who play with finesse, and then you have street players who think it is all about physical strength, period. More and more the physical strength is winning but the art of the game gets lost more and more...
As in this country where there are almost 2 sides now, those with intellect and thoughtfulness, and those who think the only way to be strong and be a leader is to beat up everyone who does not agree with you...and force your will on others.
Suffice it to say in my opinion WMX changed its philosophy of the way it treated employees and lost its heart when it grew, and it was literally almost overnight...
If you are a mass producer who has no care of what it takes to make money, if you are a 'street fighter' then it would probably be for you because you WILL have to fight for everything. Fight for the right account, fight for lines, fight to be treated fairly, etc. If you appreciate MTing for the art of MTing or have any kind of joy for the profession, my guess is you will not make it there very long...
This is happening all throughout the what used to be called profession. Seems to happening all through everything these days. Humanity and heart are being pushed down to the bottom...
Great pay rate on a 55 ccl, great lady to work for and work is not tough. sm
It is all IC work, although you still are expected to give a schedule if you are doing stat coverage. Only major drawback is the big wait for your first check -- almost a month from the time of your first invoice.

I do appreciate everyone's comments - both pro and con. This is exactly why I decided to ask for opinions. Thanks so much for not laughing at me and just saying that a hospital job is always the way to go. I'm pretty sure that I'll apply, and I already feel better prepared. You all are great!

Yes, I currently work 3 jobs; 2 are national (both suck); pay okay and am an employee and the other one smaller company am an IC (are very nice) but pay a little less. Going crazy because they overhire (the 2 national companies).

Most transcriptionists have more than one job, it allows for backup when one runs low. It's not real hard to do, except I did try to learn two new jobs at one time and that was tough. Would start out with one and then the other. It was pretty stressful for a while.
Is more then just the MT jobs.
Most technical services are over seas too. Dell is the worst.. They don't even speak English... Time for the American People to step up to the plate and DEMAND their medical records stay in the States.. I do that when I go to the doctor and hospital.

I had to keep a log with companies I worked for that were responsible for the demographics, just to cover my backside. If you don't it's the client's word against yours if the wrong info gets entered. If you want names just e-mail me.

TT, 3 jobs?
I have just started on a hospital account. Not the best hours, have to work the major holidays, and miss things etc. Have my original job, does not pay well. Starting on another service to try it out. Now, considering TT. I was thinking with all the raves about TT, I would make that my main job (working 3rd shift) so I can do things with my family and during the holidays which I could not do with the hospital. I don't know what to do now that I hear TT might not have work for me as I need to support my family (I would take 3rd shift). I am curious as to comments. The other service job I am trying out I hear has great benefits but inflexible. Gave me the schedule I want but will be demanding in that they check line counts daily. I know this is confusing, but trying to sort out. TTers should I take the job and dump the hospital so I can enjoy the holidays and keep another job on the side? Or keep the hospital and forget any flexibility. Any comments appreciated. Thanks

Have you just been applying recently? This is the slowest time for transcription, and a lot of companies might not be hiring at the moment because of work shortages. Keep in touch with them on an occasional basis. Regarding the comments about Amphion, I can't agree. I do a wide variety of transcription with them, some clinical, much acute care, and much surgical. The secret for me was to be willing to transcribe multiple accounts and all specialities. It's a great company to work for, and I'd recommend them. Good luck in your job search!
It's not just our jobs...
I saw on the news that there are web sites where you can assign tasks for people in India and Korea to do your web searches for just one dollar a day. One lady pays $30.00 per month and she has this task person look up whether she can buy a certain color shoes at a certain store. She's a marketing executive with just not enough time on her hands to complete all of her tasks, so she pays. Of course now it is even more advertised since it was on the news. They even showed a foreign person with a headset smiling and just ready to perform all of your tasks that you cannot get done. Can you imagine? So, it is not just transcription, it is everything.
OPs only jobs
Anyone know who hires for operative reports only, IC or otherwise. I'm looking for a job where I can do strictly that one worktype. I have 18 years experience doing OPs. Any companies out there any more who hire for just OPs that you know of?

have flexible scheduling, i.e., 24 TAT instead of set hours. I manage to transcribe for 2 separate companies that way.
Two Jobs
I work two jobs because I have to. The main company that I work for perpetually plays games, sending work offsite, and leaving American workers in the lurch. There has been very little work all week; management claims that they have no idea what is going on, but they always say that even when they do know what is going on; many of us can't even make enough money right now to qualify for benefits.
Because of this, I run the two jobs simultaneously, so that I can switch back and forth; although there isn't much switching lately, most of my work is coming from my second, part-time job. We just have to do what we can to survive when these companies are screwing us over in favor of offshoring.
