Perhaps writing the letter boosted her self-esteem, which

obviously she felt was lacking due to the reasons expressed in her note. Writing something down, such as in a diary, can do wonders to boost the self-esteem. Re-read her post; honor, (dignity), self-esteem. I don't blame anyone, especially oldtimers, being p'od about being offered a piddlin wage after decades of hard work employed as a MT. It is belittling to accept the wages that are being offered now. I'm glad she wrote it and got it off her chest. HOPEFULLY, she is feeling much better about herself. NO JOB is worth become depressed over; which is where I think this poster was headed if she had not expressed her feelings in writing, and on a board such as this. I applaud her.

OSI is best for newbies or those with NO self-esteem

The degredation of self esteem on this website is musing me!

And, possibly shed some light here.  After seeing some of these posts, reading through many ads, and speaking with recruiters, and being knee deep in seeing some of the "mishandled, misappropriated, misguided, hypocritical, and profound blatant mistakes on reports, that are missed by QA, and mostly by some of these same Transcriptionist themselves, who are masticating the web way here with unprofessional manners, by defecating on employers, coworkers, future employers, as well as their lack of priority and care for their chosen career, really makes me wonder, what is wrong with this picture.

To be an MT or have any part of this challenge means you should take pride in your work, and your abilities to not let the client down, nor the ramifications of what can befall poorly typed and not censured documents.

The government has laid rules and regulations down, that employers and employees must follow.  There are guidelines written so to improve the quality of the grammar, which we all know most of the dictator’s lack profoundly.

The report should culminate in a byline that is clean, states who, what, when, where, and how long, as well as how much will it take to either diagnose, prognose, treat, find a conservative balance, chose Hospice, or rehab, then discharge to whatever means the systems deems is fit, i.e. home, or rehab, or the morgue.

MT work is a necessity, a lucky job if you ask me, and a home based career that many if they just knew, would have rethought their path to go into.

Be properly prepared; be critical of yourself, before criticizing others.  Take open critiquing as just a held out hand of help, ignore the attitude that comes with that help at times, because in the end that person is as lonely as a grain of sand on the beach, and try not to pass the mean, haggard fiery drippings down the food chain.

The more you know the further you will go, trust in your newest reference books, if you have to argue, chose to argue with the means and ways of citing, and pg #s, instead of what you think you know.  If you prove some smarty pants that the law or legalities are so stated and written and cited here in the official handbook of MT Life AAMT BOS, or AP book of Style or any other know and respected reference material, your one-ups-manship has place a non-confrontational issue in your lap, said and done, it’s in print, and what you are saying washes nothing.

Thank you very much - I have nothing in writing! ty
Thanks again - I appreciate the information.
If you have it in writing that they pay a certain
way and they don't, you can fight them over it. When I was with MQ, I got a fat check for $1000 because on one of my accounts I was not being paid correctly. They had to go back to day #1 and pay me the difference. It takes a lot of pushing, but if you can prove your case they have no recourse in situations like that.
None of that is in writing, though. There is SM
no policy that I can find saying this.  An STM should not be making promises that may not be kept.  Unless that is in writing (and it is not), we CAN lose our benefits because they don't provide enough work.
Sorry, I was writing to fed up.
Ah, Atlanta. Lived there, as has the rest of the world it seems.

Remember when in the hospital, nurses, ward clerks, medical records personnel used to complain about not being able to read the doctor's writing. How did they fix that? Can anyone say EMR?

Keep protesting. The jobs keep disappearing and then we'll be left with what? I will put up with the ESL. And yes, we left sticky notes and the docs took offense. They said it's part of your job, deal with it.
In writing
Yes, I have the originally E-mail that sums up the whole deal.  I did contact an attorney today and it looks promising for me, per our telephone conversation.  I have a consultation with him Monday morning to see what my options are.  Will keep you posted on the outcome, although you nor anyone else will probably run into something like this in your lives.  Nobody has heard of this situation!  As soon as it is safe to, I will definitely reveal the name of the company.  Holds true for the old saying, If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.  In the long run, you're gonna get screwed!
writing congress
Good idea.
maybe freelance writing?
You tell it like it is, mamacarolina. Let us know if this letter is published -- or even acknowledged. If you're burnt out on med trans, maybe you should consider journalism?
I would ask and get in writing from the company SM
that you can work a split shift, but it is likely they will want you to commit to specific times for the split and you have to work that---that part is not flexible.  If you say you will work 7 am-11 am and 4 pm-8 pm you had better be on there working during those times, in other words.
Maybe the offshore MTs are writing the ads now too. nm

Writing on the wall
I think its time for us all to think about different careers...the writing is on the wall.  In NY state every hospital and doctor has to be on EMR by 2008...and I'm sure more states will follow.
Make sure you get everything in writing.
The answers change to the exact opposite every 24 hours.
What are you writing, a book
x
and what country are you writing from?
nm
Well, with your writing skills.....
They're probably happy to be rid of you .
Why not ask for this IN WRITING up front?... SM
However, most of what you get in writing from MTSOs is (have you ever read a rental lease drawn up by LL/mgmt?) almost always in THEIR favor, whether it's an IC contract or employee agreement.  Ever notice how they hedge on where it comes to pay rate?  Mine states only compensation.... on an agreed-upon rate. Still, you could probably negotiate items that are important to you and not negotiable, like in your case, no typing, specific pay rate, hours, schedules.  If they refuse to state these in writing, don't count on being able to negotiate them later.
Try writing all that to the people you sm
are contracted with.  Nothing will change, but it's better than posting it on some board where it really won't get any notice.
Wow! Thank you for writing this. This is very important
Yes, I do depend on a paycheck being timely and so do my bill collectors. My rent cannot be late either. And I have a small child to feed. Thanks for letting me know the history of this! Now back to the drawing-board for my job search :).
You know, I noticed they never put it in writing
It was always written to make up the missed work or adjust your schedule.  Nothing about when to make it up.  When there would be work.  You could spend hours and hours day and night waiting to make up that work but they would never comment about it in writing.
Creative writing at its best

I have NEVER read such unmitigated untruths (polite way of saying lies).

At least you had the courage to sign your name-----I would be afraid (and ashamed).

The writing is on the wall

If you truly believe what you say, then don't stay another minute. Run, FOR-REST run!
Does MQ in Monrovia pay for spaces - do you have this ans in writing?
?
ask PLENTY of questions and get it in writing
Ask questions like: Why has there been a big administrative turnover in the last 2 months? Why are all the people who have been there forever leaving or already gone? Why have all the former department heads stepped down to lesser positions? Why aren't editors able to track their line count? Just as a word of advice: Don't quit looking for something better. I LOVED the people that I worked with before and they were wonderful to me. They were REAL people. They cared! I can't say that about the new management!!! Just BE CAREFUL and watch your back!
I saw the writing on the wall a month or so ago
When my primary was consistently out of work I hesitated to go to take work from my secondary accts because that would take away from THEIR lines. I got a rather snippy email from my liason saying that of course I should gobble up secondary work, that's what they are there for. But the work was all gone by the time I got to that point. Can't win for losing. I agree w/previous poster; the more accts you cross-train on the more the work is going, going, gone.
I saw the writing on the wall and got out sooner after the buy out SM

It made me sick to see TransHealth become WMX!  I loved, loved, LOVED working for TransHealth.  I thought management were good people.  They even flew their QA staff to TN for Christmas parties, but then that last one was when they announced the buy out.  It was disappointing, but at least I got nice weekend trip out of the deal and a few good meals!

I miss the old TransHealth.  I would give my I-teeth to find a company and job like that one again.

I feel for you ex-TH-ers who have weathered the WMX storm only to now take pay cuts.  It sucks!

AWESOME! Very creative writing.

Just wish it would happen.  I do believe that management should take a pay cut also!  There is no reason that they should not have to do more work for less pay like the rest of us.  After all, this is a very tough economy we are dealing with and we have to keep the clients happy.  That is our number 1 priority!

Some people don't like the truth, I love to shout it out LOUD.

To the other poster who keeps bashing the original poster.... anyone can obtain an account.  That is the easy work.  The hard part is keeping them, and I believe that is the job of the MT.

Who from management of OSI keeps writing in to pump themselves up to look great?
Did OSi hire somewhat to sit and post on MTStars all day good things so that people would apply there?   This company kills me!
It is time to read the writing on the wall and get out NOW!
They are going down and real fast!
Anybody into scrapbooking?(LOL).

Get out while you can. Major changes on the way.
Well, I put in writing mine has to be when I see a doctor or hospital.
Yep, took my daughter to the ER last week and told them that the record MUST stay in the U.S., be transcribed by an American citizen (inhouse) or only to a company that employs only American citizens, and they better darn well note that in the chart. They do. I do this every time I go to a doctor, hospital or any medical center. I tell them if they have no such option, I'll transcribe my own records, which always gets a chuckle.

I saw the writing on the wall a long time ago. Sorry for those who stuck around!! sm
I sure hope you find something soon......my heart goes out to you. Lesson learned, I suppose. When people show you who they really are....believe it.

I'm all for writing our congressmen about offshoring medical info, but...
These are old bills introduced to the 109th congress in 2005.  I wish people would get their information straight.  It just makes us all look like idiots if we write to congress refering bills that don't exist anymore or we are actually referencing current bills that have nothing to do with protecting privacy and offshoring medical info!
The company does if you contact them about the job. I like to inquire before writing things off nm

at first impressions.

RE: Not MQ-Letter

I have to agree with you on this--why does everyone need to be called personally and I never thought about that, was the call being recorded?? But would they not have to tell you that??

Something just does not feel right about this. The packet is coming out in Oct, our all the packets different, after you get the packet will you have to sign something to agree to that pay rate to continue with your job, and is all this heading to a merger with Spheris at the first of the year. When I was called , there were no answers to any of my questions and honestly I think the person on the phone was not prepared for any questions, just to ask you if you got the packet.

Some of the offices that have been closed so far have surprised me, especially Warminster and Atlanta, and now Houston and an office in Ohio is closing. I hope it is not the one in Columbus, that is a great office.

Where is this all going???  And all I want to do is work, if there was any!!!

yes really. it was in my letter.
under 'highlights of the plan':
#6: "opportunity for paid time off for part-time employees and PTO of up to 18 days per year for full-time employees.."

Anyone else get this letter ?

Got letter in mail --  inquiry about 'opportunity' for my service to hire on 50+ MTs including dictation platform - something about an MTSO losing 98% of its hospital business in November and wanting to place these MTs.  ?  I'm wondering if these poor MTs even know about it yet ??

Letter
I received this letter today, and I don't even work for SPI.  I did work for Cymed (long before the merge), but have been gone from there for 2 years now.  I wonder if it's anything I need to worry about.
Did anybody get a letter from SPI

I am a former SPI employee and got a letter from the company who did our paychecks today saying an SPI employee had left a laptop on a plane that had our personal info such as SSI#, bank info, etc. and the laptop had not been recovered.  They are supposed to have a 1-year free deal with Equifax for a credit watch.  This is really scary to me. Was wondering if anyone else got this letter.

Letter
Yes, I also received one today.  There is a thread below that was started about this, and I posted to that.  I have actually never worked for SPI, but I did work for Cymed 2 years ago.  It's so scary to think that my personal information might be at risk.  I think it might be best to enroll in the coverage now.
SPI letter
I also recieved the letter. I worked for Cymed. My sister used to work for an insurance company and recieved the same letter. She has been monitoring her credit report but has had somebody try and change the address on a few of her credit cards. What next and how incompetent are people.
letter
Does anyone have any samples of a letter that you would send out to doc's to get their business.
I got the same letter
My letter said I had to become an employee because of state regulations - I assume this is for Massachusetts where Focus is located? That doesn't seem to make sense to me since we are located all over (I am in Kansas). I've been an IC with Focus for a year and haven't had too many problems but do get updated account specs just about everyday. I can only keep up with 1 account assigned to me bec. I can't remember everything for 3 accounts. I am content with staying at Focus but only if I can pick my shifts and days to work.
letter
Wow! Well written. I posted here last week and was called a suck-up, but I still think you are right. I do my own share of griping, but having been an IC, I know what you say is true. I'm much happier being an employee. MUCH less stress. Try working for a federal prison and not getting their work back - I never had the guts to be late, even though they were at times late with the tapes and my paycheck. I only went to being an employee within a company because of a severe, chronic illness in my son. This works best for me now, staying at home and being here for him, not running around picking up tapes and delivering sticky progress notes. By the way, what does MTSO mean? My guess is MT service organization, but I'm actually clueless.
This letter should be followed up by a letter to

Can we talk - about this MQ letter!

The first sentence that sent me tossing my cookies was "...we would like to thank you for your continued service and support.  we know the key to our success is the people who work so hard for our customers every day".

PLEEZE......I have not had one centilla of a raise in over 5 years!  So we know what that sentence was all above.  Your thanks and $1.25 will get me a bad cup of coffee at Huddle House.

Next - that's the whole reason for this letter if you ask me - the little ditty from WINSTON AND STRAWN, attorneys at law.

They wanted MQ employees to cough up DOCUMENTS (document preservation).  Of course the attorneys for the MTs' class action suite are also searching out those very same documents.   How quaint.

And that graph about "over the past several months with your help and input we have been working on developing a pay plan and comprehensive benefit program that will enable us to set the standard in the industry."  Nowhere in that whole paragraph did it mention statutory MTs.  It addressed them in the salutation of the letter, but never in the paragraph about the pay plan of benefits if you notice.  and lord help us if MQ is going to set the STANDARD for the industry (which they have single-handedly devastated all by themselves).  They did not make profit through solid  business means, they made their profit off the BENEFITS we as MTs made previously and which they through smoke and mirrors merely shifted over to their profit column.  That didn't take a genius - just underhanded business.  I could do that too, take what used to be benefits and change it to the profit monies.

And in this letter they further have the nerve to claim:  "While we believe that the claims raised by the three transcriptionists appear to lack merit..."  How about the thousands of other MTs who also believe it to be so, and the hospitals that back them up?

I have to go pour me a drink.

No. The only letter I have received is the
September 2nd letter announcing the upcoming Rewards Plan.

Yes, if ASR pay is being reduced that is a pay cut. It is A pay cut. The above post made implication that there was a pay cut across the board, "... the pay cut ...".

I just don't see a need to be careless with that kind of assumption.

I have received nothing about the ASR reduction. However, I do not do ASR and it may have only gone to those MTs.

Watch out. SBC just sent me a letter saying
they were switching me from unlimited LD to 10 cents a minute.  So I called and canceled my LD with them.  Back to onesuite.com for now.
Isn't there some way an "anonymous" letter
Let the doctors and clinics know where their work is being sent--to a country with no HIPAA regulations. Let them know that the people who have faithfully worked for them for years just got shafted BIG TIME.
