Requirements Must have one year of experience in medical transcription

I have found this time of year to be extremely busy. People
are scheduling elective procedures while they have a long weekend off and don't have to worry about missing work, plus docs do their best to get  everyone home for Thanksgiving and I have DS galore.  I do think around Christmas it slows down, but I also think there are lots of MTs taking time off during this time frame so you would think the work would balance out - less work, but less MTs, so still a fair amount of work.

It has been slow for me since at least August, so it isn't just the holidays.
Need some information on IC payments
I started this year as IC and know I will be paying SS, income and also state income tax. Where do you get the mailing addressses to send these payments off? I do not want to wait until next year when doing taxes and hear I owe the big $$$$$. Thanks.
AccuStat payments
Me and about 25 other MTs that I am in contact with that all work with AccuStat are having no problems getting paid.  Maybe the client that you are working on is not paying??  This is the downfall of being an IC.  You will get your pay as AccuStat is very good to their MTs...dont worry!!
I haven’t received all of my payments either.

Two payments of $500 are indeed $1000 in a bonus.
What are you referring to?

Since she is talking about cash payments, sm
my next question would be whether this cash is being reported as income?  Hmmmm?
Too little, too late? It is never too late. I am one person, true, but together

Let me tell what this ONE person achieved on her own and then you can imagine what many of us can do if we stand together.

Two years ago, I was working as an MT for a local hospital.  One day, we were told that our overflow was going to be outsourced to one of the nationals, just the discharge summaries and not even all of those.  Two months after they told us that lie, they called is in one by one and fired us because they were outsourcing the entire dept because it was cost effective.  The service they were using was a very large national who I happened to know had a reputation of offshoring.  And I just knew because our little hospital had easy as pie dictators with maybe 4 out of a staff of 200 that were ESL, our work would most definitely be one of the accounts offshored.

I was angry!  Oh, they offered us jobs at the service and told us we would definitely be working on our hospital, but I'm no fool and I knew it would be a matter of time before we were forced to take secondary accounts which would eventually become our primary accounts and our little hospital would just disappear from our queues.

I refused the job with the service on moral grounds.  I refused to work for a company that offshored.  And then I decided to channel my anger and outrage into something proactive.  I wrote letters to every newspaper in my area.  Every small farming community newspaper this hospital served, and the big city newspaper in the big city close by.  I never dreamed that anyone would pay attention at one woman's rantings.  But a funny thing happened.  My letter was printed in more than one of the papers I sent it to, and reporter from one of the larger newspapers called me and asked if I would do an interview.  I said absolutely.

Long story short, they did the interview and then interviewed the administrator of the hospital.  They put him in the hot seat and asked him about offshoring health information to India.  He had no definitive answers to give except that he would have to look at the contract and make sure that it was stipulated that his hospital's work was not sent over seas.

It was a small triumph, but I took some satisfaction in it.  Two weeks after that and just when I thought all the hoopla had died on my little letter, another letter appeared in the newspaper -- from an HIM director at another local hospital who said as a result of reading my letter and interview, that she had received a number of calls from concerned people asking if their medical information was being sent and transcribed overseas.  She wanted to write the letter just to set the record straight that her hospital employed their own MTs and did not outsource to a service nor did they offshore any of their work to third-world countries.

And I'm still not done.  Still a few weeks later another letter in the big city paper was printed from another HIM director assuring the community that her hospital employed its own American MTs and did not outsource or offshore.

Now, everything has quieted down since then, but I managed to ruffle some feathers and make a point, and if I (one person, one middle-aged work-at-home mother of two) can cause that much ruckus -- think what a whole bunch of us can do.

I think we, as a group, need to take control of our industry and our career destiny and do something.  Maybe march on Washington DC protesting the offshoring of American jobs -- not just ours, but ALL American jobs that are being offshored.  There are more Americans out of work and losing work to third-world countries and corporate greed than just MTs!  Our government needs to hear our voices!  We need to MAKE ourselves be heard!

Instead of sitting back and pasting little smiley faces in our posts and saying good luck with that we need to come together.  There is no room for MTs willing to accept lower wages, no room for MTs whose hearts bleed for our third-world counterparts, and no room for MTs who want to sit back and do nothing, but reap the benefits when the strong win the battle.  We've reached a critical turning point and it's time to take up the cause and change the future.

Not true. $200 deposit taken in four easy payments.
dd
I would imagine they will just start sending usage payments
:+
Newbie bud is working for them and she's lacking several payments right now. Time
s
do you consistently
get the same line count total on a daily basis or exceed that?
Consistently I would say easily 200/hr all the way
up to 300 per hour but with the right macros/expanders you can certainly do even more than that because it not only depends on the account but also how proficient you are with your expanders.

Of course, you'll probably need a day or two to recuperate from your hard work:)
Nobody, just an employee consistently sm
out of work and fighting for lines like so many others while the poster brags about too many lines and getting bonuses. It's kinda ignorant to others to come on here and brag.
You will starve! Consistently no work!!
nm
lol. My bad...I meant $5000 consistently
CHEERS!
Not bad at all. Consistently hitting 2000 plus
lines a day. Just gotta get used to the Audit SW. It's not the greatest but it's not the worse.
Been there, did not make it consistently, left and did
Got a nicer manager at the other company too.
Do you consistently have penty of work?
It's my understanding from MTs who have left Landmark that there is often an issue of a lack of work.

Do you work PT or FT? In your experience, do you usually have plenty of work?
How will anyone get incentive if they consistently run out of work. That is a BIGEE.
:
MTSOs need to know the work is going to be done consistently. Not just when someone feels like
:+
I have been running out of work consistently recently. nm

Any other Spheris MTs running out of work consistently? NM

But not everyone has extra time to spare consistently, even at their
Again, I don't work for Amphion, but I could never work somewhere that wanted consistent OT. I deliver high-quality, high-production 40 hours, and outside of that I still don't have enough hours in the day to devote to my non-MT life. Amphion would be a terrible match for me, but I'm glad there are others who can live up to the overtime demands.
good money but consistently run out of work??
/
Yeah, right. Heard this before. They flat-out consistently over hire.
nm
I do think it has been light lately, but if you are consistently running out of work try talking to
your account lead and see if there are some answers for you.  I have several accounts and don't usually run out, but don't always work on my primary.
Thank you for proving my point: Being consistently good has a better chance.....nm
nm
I am having a hard time understanding why companies consistently overhire when they run an ad.
They have to know that people that need a certain amount of income are either going to quit or cut back and get a second job.  What does it gain them.  I would think this constant hiring and hiring and training would get very old and certainly has to impact quality.
TransTech LOW and NO WORK consistently for many months now, especially within the past couple

of months when they thought they were getting a new account and hired everyone who called or submitted a resume.  There is just NO WORK for all of us anymore.  Lost account, so what did they do -- put those MT's piled on top of us on our primary account.

TT is in serious trouble, I do believe, financially.  If they are having to pay MANY MT's, but have few accounts, they won't last for long.  Who is TT's financial backer?????   Do they have one????  Who owns TT???  I once heard a real estate broker owned them.  Wonder how much rent they pay on their office in Houston???  Wonder how many $$$$ in bonuses they are giving out to mgmt-type people????

We TT MT's are seriously hurting financially and getting very stressful on our health and livelihood.  We hear absolutely nothing from mgmt about this situation, but *good things* are coming.  You remember when the Q said the same thing to their MT's a few years ago and it was only beneficial to mgmt.  It was a real crock!!!!!

I must say that my job that I used to enjoy beginning my shift every day is now the MOST stressful thing in my life, and we ALL have stressors of one kind of another, admit or not.  TT has become the biggest stress in my life, without a doubt.  A doctor friend of mine and my own personal doctors say that is what my problem is.

These MTSO's have gotten just as greedy as GMC and all those other HUGE conglomerates!

I don't understand it. We've been consistently running out of work primary and secondary the
I quit.
my first year I made 16k. Doubled that second year. Going on year 6 with (sm)

two local accounts I earned 23,000.00 and a national I earned 35,400... 58,400 this year.  Don't ask me how many hours, though, I really have no idea.  I'm pretty motivated.  (When people ask me how many hours I work a week I reply as many as it takes  I'd say 40-50/week.  I am also a fitness instructer and personal trainer, about 5 hours a week or so.  Decent money (sometimes under the table!) but mostly I just do it for fun and to be social and wear cute work-out clothes.

that first year was a rough one... but I consider it part of my education.

I'm pretty motivated.

Last year, there was a letter sent that told us what we earned the previous year. sm
In the past, it has been all or nothing; if you did not hit the lines for full time for the year, you did not get PTO. I talked to my lead this morning about a last-minute vacation and she told me that the yearly packets are going out in a week or so and that the new policy will acrue PTO by the pay period or month. I like that a lot better, but she also made it sound like they are upping the amount of lines needed to acrue PTO. I normally get between 15 and 20,000 lines per pay period, so I am sure that will be fine but I am worried about the periods that have lower volumes, like most of January every year.
Webmedx lets you carry them from year to year sm
You can accrue up to 140 hours (I think) before you stop the accrual process. Don't have to use it all in one year.
I would stick it out, most places are slow now through the end of the year every year (nm)

Your last comment...
was uncalled for. This MT is simply answering this poll based on his or her worst experience. There is another poll above asking for the best MT company you've ever worked for. If you want to defend Diskriter, post there.

Seems to me that ER MTs double their lines most of the time.  I'm a bit worried about Acute Care/Basic 4.  Anyone out there doing those reports increase their line count without killing yourself?
Just a comment on it...sm
I'm lucky to have the two large health systems here that employ some MT's but I also know that some hospitals prefer to just find a company (US, out-of-state, or otherwise) to send all their stuff to and let the company organize, back-up and differentiate all of it so the hospital doesn't have to deal with it lots of different employees for their transcription.  Understandable theory I suppose; I just wish we could show them that keeping their work local to their immediate city/area would be beneficial too!

I have no doubts about the reason for that rule.

Thank you for helping me to wake up and smell the printer ink!

Being an MT has definitely changed my attitude towards the world and people in general.  This is really sad.  I find myself struggling on a daily basis, just kind of wondering and waiting for the end to come.

Your post made my day.  It validated my experience of this past week as something that I need to consider seriously.  My eyes were opened; actually, I was kind of shocked.  I had been invited to a presentation where I met an entirely different group of people, in another industry, which is similar to ours in that it is still health-related, but it is Wellness, and does not involve any transcription.  Those people were so happy, positive, successful, and rich, and one lady told me that she does 99% of her work from home and during a bad month she earns ONLY $7000.  So, I'm now considering a career change.  I love my dogs, really.  But, I want to live in a world where I like the people, too.

With this addition to my life, I suspect that I will not be so stressed out with regards to MT, and will still continue my somewhat, sometimes enjoyable MT job on a part-time basis.  When you don't really need the money and you kind of just do it for FUN, it takes on a different flavor, I'm sure.

Thank you again!

This also would depend on how much notice she is giving regarding taking time off.  If she is constantly taking time off with very little advanced notice for nonemergencies, it seems like adequate grounds for dismissal.
comment on what you want but sm
i have seen you pick at others for posting comments that have nothing to do iwth the post.  But I guess thats ok for you and nobody else....right?
oh my god, what a disgrace you are for your comment - sm
If you feel that strongly about your job, no matter what it is, then get out and do something else. Nobody is making you a slave. I'm sure you have other skills.

And while you are out searching for another career, talk to your therapist about upping the medications you are on. Because the comments you made are deeply troublesome and psychotic in every way.
Care to comment?? NM

MedWare QA comment

I'm not sure how you can get ZERO QA feedback from Medware when each and every report you sent to editing is returned for you to see with whatever blanks were able to be filled in. You can even pull up the voice file again and re-listen while you go over the blanks.

I'm not saying you're not telling the truth, just that your experience is much different than mine, and along with the ZERO QA feedback comment it makes me wonder why.
