Ok, fine, potatoMT is happy, others aren't, and even others say 1.5 cpl

Do the math on how long it would take to earn any real amount of money when you actually have to edit reports that were transcribed offshore. It's clear by other posters that it's not VR editing. It is actually hard core editing of offshore production. Even if you simply sent the reports right on without ever looking at them, it still wouldn't result in any decent amount of pay.

Wow! If you aren't interested that's fine but why bash this company for doing something nice
employees? I really feel sorry for MTSO's in this day and age of constant bashing. They simply can't win. If they try to do something nice and creative, they get bashed. If they don't, they get bashed. How 'bout giving them a break and going back to the rock you crawled out from under?
If you aren't happy
why don't you leave?  You seem to know so much, so you must work for OSi.  You musn't be able to get another job elsewhere.
Would you mind saying why you aren't happy there?
Just curious. I like it so far, but my line count is not where I would like for it to be.
Wow, some just aren't happy unless there's negativity and drama abounding.

Aren't you cheery? Happy said "your mileage may vary" sm
I don't think the OP was saying that the company was perfect for everyone. Geez, rain on everyone's parade 'cause you don't think AAMT is squat. It was one person's opinion and thus at least a place to start.
To:potatoMT re Shapin
I have been offered an Editor position at 1.5 cpl.  That's pretty low isn't it??  Especially if you have to listen to the dictator, read and correct the chart.  Does that go up after a period of time?  It seems like a nice place to work.  But it seems like you time isn't worth much at 1.5 cpl.  Any comments would be helpful!! Thanks.
To:potatoMT re Shapin
This would be my first editing job, too, so I would really like the experience.  I like the sounds of the flexibility and that you can go at your own pace.  Do they train you right online?  They said it takes 3-4 weeks to train?  Do you get to choose the accounts you work on?  Any ESLs?  Thanks for the info!!
To Amy & potatoMT re: SHAPIN
Just a warning:

Please read the posts regarding Shapin. I don't know about you guys, but working for this company sounds like an experience I'd rather skip altogether. There are reputable MTSOs out there who are willing to steer you in the right direction. Not only that, the experience you'll be getting from this group, well, let's just say that I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock into what they have to offer, if you know what I mean.

Nevertheless, whatever you guys choose to do, good luck to you both!

Do you think all the headers and footers aren't getting counted? Lots of places aren't giving

Who said people who work for KS aren't happy for people who work for (sm)
other companies?  I'm happy for people who are happy with their jobs, no matter what company they work for.
Happy New Year. May we all have happy home lives (sm)
and do whatever it takes to make our work lives work for us too.
Right and told we should be happy we have jobs. Not too happy right now.

.

i have it and like it just fine
the preventative maintence is paid in full. I don't remember any long waiting periods. I do think you have to have the insurance a year before you can use it for braces tho, which i also did, and i think the max payout was $1000/yr on the braces (not absolutely sure i remember correctly). it has served me well and the monthly rate was fair.
Fine
So that's what was rude.  Okay.  But did you read my second post?  I DID say work was slow.  I DO know it.  How many ways can I say it?????  But, I am still able to get my line counts in.  So are many, many other MTs at Transcend?  I see many MTs asking questions for word  help/account specific questions, as they are typing.  They are typing.  Why are they?  Why are many of us able to get our lines in?  Why can't you?  Ask for another account.  They said in the email sent out yesterday that if you want or need another account to email them, training will begin today?  Why aren't you training on a new account?  I have been with Transcend for awhile and have had no problems getting my line count in at all.  That is what I am saying.  I am not going to get on here and say anything else, as that would not be the truth from my side of it.  I am not saying that you aren't having a hard time pulling work.  All I am saying is that it is still possible even though slow, as I am doing it and so are others.
I think $13.50 is just fine, especially when....sm

I don't have to buy "work" clothes per se, don't have to drive into the office to work, and can be home when my kids get off the bus, thereby saving money for after-school babysitting.   I live just fine on my salary and it's not for you to knock what I make or how I live...and yes, we go to the movies AND buy popcorn/sodas there!

I have friends who make $20-25 an hour in their jobs and they drive in to work (we live in the suburbs of a major city), have to wear business clothes, and pay for daycare.   Not only do they spend 2 hours a day in the car commuting to/from work but with the costs of them workintg they actually end up making less money than I do - it's all how you look at it and do the math.   I on the other hand buy a tank of gas and it lasts usually 3 weeks, sometimes 4 and yet we're not deprived.

That's quite fine...sm
Not my loss
VPN is fine as well.

Yep, still here. Doing fine. nm

Why is that fine?

Aren't they about the only U.S. MTSO that does that?  Are they willing to make their books available to determine how soon after they are paid they pay the MTs?  Sounds like it is problematic, and a well run company (which granted is not them, since they're only overflow) would be able to handle this, just like 99% of other employers or businesses do.  Why is it fine?  Can we tell our utility company or car note company that we'll pay them when we get paid?

I like it fine
Nothing really exciting but nice people to work with.  Plenty of work with overtime and incentives quite often.  Always paid on time and correctly.  Rate is 0.09 for some account and 0.10 for a harder one.  Every account has a few hard dictators but overall pretty good.  ExText platform.  401K with 100% match of up to 4% after a year of employment.  Not very good insurance.  I feel secure and comfortable - just not making a lot of money.  Not sure about raises.  I haven't had one.  Anybody else know if and when?
What co was that for? I'm sure you did fine.

You are going to be just fine sm
Every job takes some getting used to and you are never too old to learn new programs. It's just unlearning the old program and relearning the new. You'll get there. TT is very patient.
That's fine
if you are going to judge 'my tone' from posts without benefit of any one on one discussion, you are free to research the possibility of a union on your own.

I'm a straight-shooter, and sometimes that translates to some as harsh... others take my posts with a large grain of salt and/or withhold judgement. Your choice :)

I'm not willing to hold the reins here anyway, merely to help a serious interest proceed.

And by the way, the ant hill is plenty stirred up from my viewpoint. My whole intent was to see if the ants wanted to see a possible solution, or merely to continue venting...
Everything is fine at MQ now sm
We are also being paid downtime for the time we were down, so it wasn't so bad at all!
It's fine :)
Some people have no personality and just love to be negative. I guess it really bothers her that you made a career change. (holy crap)
I think we will be fine and do even better
I think we will have our pick of jobs. I am not worried about any of the names unionized workers resort to calling.

Just keep on keepin' on.

If okay with you, then fine with me
I don’t work for the company but with jobs disappearing overseas today and with most concerned about lack of work, falling salaries, and so on I would think only a matter of time before all go that way.
That's fine.
If they don't have work for me during the hours I want to work, fine. I end up taking the day off. Just part of being IC.

But the problem the OP had was MTSO dictating what hours the MT is to work such as must working from 8-5. They cannot do that. If they need someone to work a shift from 8-5, then they need an EMPLOYEE, not an independent contractor.
Sure, that would be fine

MDI Maryland HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY
THIS IS NOT MDI IN NY OR FL!!

www.mditrans.com.

I can't say enough nice things about this company; very flexible, you area a statutory employee. That means that they pay the employer portion of your SS. Great on time pay, tons of work. Do your lines and you are left alone! Expect to be responsible though. Pay for your phone; rent a Lanier or a C-phone if you don't have one; BayScribe platform. Anything that is a bit of an inconvenience is more than made up for. You will know to the minute how much you will make and how many lines you have typed. Check it out!

Working fine for me
I haven't had any problems since beginning with Diskriter in January this year.  My benefits are great and they just switched to Highmark Blue Cross because employees surveyed wanted a wider coverage area program.   I meet my incentive almost every week. Working for me!
It was fine! What I enjoyed was...
...that in one of the transcription reports I had my favorite doc on the whole planet dictating. I recognized his voice - what were the chances that that would happen? I live in an area with about 50,000 people, and the hospital he dictates for is about mid-size. It was nice to hear him again.
that fine~i don't much care whether
you believe me or not.  I have nothing to prove to you.  lol
I am sure everything will be fine. Been there 90 days now. (sm)
After sticking it out for 3 yrs with the worst company going (OSi), I couldn't be happier.
That would be fine if he was supporting the U.S.

For a newbie, that's just fine. nm

Been with them for 2 months, like it just fine. sm
No problems with pay or work, actually I am pretty happy, no complaints thus far.  Staff is very nice and helpful.  I am paid by the report.
My work has been fine and I think
they have more accounts coming on. If so, as we all know, you have to hire before you start the new accounts, so perhaps there is a slight over flow right now of MTs, waiting to be put on some new accounts. I also have had past experience that certain MTs are cut out for certain accounts. Perhaps the MTs who are low in work right now do not have experience in other areas that would otherwise be a backup until the work picks up again in their expertise. Hang in there. MDI is a good place to be and I should know, because I have been around a block more than a few times in this profession.
I can live with myself just fine, thank you,....

because you definitely have the wrong person.....I didn't steal anything! And not that I should have to justify my actions to you, but I don't post my name on ANY message board.

I can get in just fine, but sometimes it goes down for maintenance
Don't worry about it. Just keep trying.
Cphone is fine
Actually Cphone works fine for me. No waiting for files to pull up and sound quality depends on where you live and type of phone service. I've used it for years and years and have no problems with it.
I think that this company is fine and that
people are going to like any company or dislike any company depending on their point of view. Being new I just want to say that speakign for myself, the managers here simply expect what the person agrees to in the interview, and also does not expect anything which any other company does. I don't know if newbies or oldies are badmouthing but the fact is each person has their own take on an experience. I for one have found they say what they mean and they mean what they say.
So far they are fine and not that difficult

Please don't worry!! You will be fine!
Oh sweetie. My heart bleeds for you, and I wish I could give you a big hug, literally. DO NOT EVER WORRY ABOUT BANKRUPTCY. I have declared bankruptcy. I had to. No other choice. It was the bleakest period of my life. Stuff happens, and one day everything was fine, and then it wasn’t. Period. As well, my MT wages went down and down, went from being paid by the page to the line, had 3 babies at home, husband lost his job, and seemingly overnight, we hit rock bottom. No health insurance, you know the ropes. It has NEVER EVER impacted me negatively to date. I declared in 2002, I believe. I hate to even look it up, but within a year, I had built all my credit back up, and have been fine. Believe me, I was not fine then, emotionally. I have applied for jobs, had credit checks done, and never had 1 person turn me down for anything, EVER. Criminal background checks might be knocks against us, I would imagine. But I don’t have anything like that in my background. But being poor or going broke is NOT a crime in America. Don’t you EVER forget that, and just remember, right now you are in very good company. The # of people declaring bankruptcy is at a skyrocketing record high, including a large percentage of senior citizens now, so you are not alone, my friend. Just remember that, YOU ARE NOT ALONE, and you are NOT bad for this. You are getting a brand new fresh start on life, and hopefully you will use it well. Again, I have had probably 2 dozen job offers since I filed for bankruptcy, right along with credit checks, and I was offered every single job. I’m not a job hopper, so only took 1 or 2 in that time, but had every check run on me and passed with flying colors, bankruptcy or no bankruptcy. Not one question or comment was ever made. Don’t be ashamed. Don’t even think about it when interviewing. I speak from experience, and know it can really drag you down emotionally if you dwell on it, and you will. Hold your head high and concentrate on the positive side of finding a new job – don’t you worry 1 bit about credit reports impacting you. It will NOT. It will NOT, and the heart of our country is changing and realizing that most of us are in trouble financially. Bankruptcy is losing its horrible stigma in society, which is good. It is the most humiliating and difficult decision to make, and then you do suffer for a bit credit-wise, but the most awful thing was the humiliation. To this day, many family members are estranged from me because of how horrified they were at my decision. Mind you, I never asked for, or got, 1 cent of help from them. They just stood on their soap boxes and judged me for simple bankruptcy. I just wish I hadn’t wasted years of tears feeling so ashamed – you are NOT a bad person for it, and its not a bad thing all in all.
Salary is fine
Salary is fine ... how are you?
that's fine if the CP states that, but...
NONE of mine state little details like that. Bottom line, you're darned if you do, you're darned if you don't!!
That's fine for someone who's okay w 95% ESLs.
To each their own.
Sounds fine to me...

Obviously, it isn't working fine...
Go work for Superior Global and quit complaining.
Yeah, it's fine...
It really doesn't bother me.  I know I'm fortunate to have found a good job.  It took a long time.  There are still good MT jobs out there.
It's a really fine line.

They're providing you the platform/software, yes and asking that you do it on their website, or wherever.  However, with a true IC position, they don't require set hours.  They don't require set days.  Some may ask the IC how  many lines that IC is going to commit to and then they may ask the IC to stick with that, but it's the IC setting the number of lines per day, not the employer.

There can be a lot of gray area in this issue, certainly.  What I'm pretty confident about, though, is if the employer is saying you MUST work Monday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm, then you're not an IC, you're an employee.
