    I had a horrible experience with this company.  I applied in for part time IC work in February but it was not until April that I rec'd my first very unprofessional email, but I had read nothing bad about the Co, so I came on board.  The first weekend I typed non stop too much work not enough typists.  She was so happy with me that she moved me from .07 cpl to .08 cpl, but nonetheless, the account ended up dropping us for the most part, meaning there was no work.  For nearly 2 weeks there was little or no work.  I had to take another company.  All of the sudden she had tons of work and demanded I do full time.  I responded I could not as I had to take another company, she told me I had to commit to part time hours for her, which I did, but there was no work during this time.  In the middle of all this was my 1 paycheck per month which is supposed to be mailed on the 10th from TX, I did not receive it until the 19th with a postmark of may 13th!  I rec’d countless phone calls and emails most of the email were junk emails and not concerning work.  In June she said that the 20 hours I worked for her that had no work was not enough I had to type 5000 lines a month, shouldn’t be a problem, but there was not work when I could type.  As I do have another account.  In June she sent out an email stating that she was changing pay from .08cpl to a sliding scale, the scale starting at 3000 lines.  I emailed her stated that I did not agree with it, but she was the boss :’) and I would make it work.  I asked her what if I type below 3000 lines, as when I am scheduled to type for her there is NO WORK.  She sent me a nasty email about her being the boss and making the decisions and it didn’t matter if I agreed… anyone typing under 3000 lines in a month was not worth her time.  I emailed her again, now I was upset stating I was joking, hence the :’) and that she still did not answer my question about typing under 3000 lines.  She sent me an email stating that she has tried to help me answer the question and she is done talking about this.  I did not respond.  The next day on my lunch break from my other account I logged on to Beth’s knowing I had to work extra hours to try to get my 3000 lines, when I logged off of her to go back to my other job she sent me yet another nasty email saying:  There is work, example you just logged off there is work.  I responded Example?  I am on my lunch from my other job and typing for you to try to make my 3000 lines.  She responded and said she has had it with my attitude, as of July 1st you will be no longer needed.  I responded are you kidding me you are firing me because I was typing for you on my break?


    On July 5th I emailed her and said I will uninstall the program and what else is needed.  She asked why?  I said you fired me.  She asked for the email firing me, I sent it to her.  She responded back to me that she wanted me to continue working.  Against, my better judgment, I continued with her.  July 14th I rec’d my check, it was 27 +/- off.  I sent an email stating My check today was short 27 dollars, please remit payment immediately.  She sent me an email stating that I am not to demand money from her that is not how it works and I need some employee/employer skills.  I responded that I was not her employee, I run a business as an IC and that the statement “please remit payment immediately” is per NYS statute, payment has to be requested immediately and that I meant no disrespect by it; however, I did not appreciate her telling me my attitude would determine if I was paid or not.  She responded back that again I was fired.  Only this time she said that TX law says she can fire an employee after 3 counsels of work or attitude and she felt this was my 3rd.  She went on again to say how my QA was awful for the headings and dates and she was continually it.  I requested she be more specific and asked why didn’t she send me QA reports so I could correct it, she said that she “didn’t have the time”  I responded again she was confused as I was NOT her employee, she did not need a reason to fire me.


    All in all even if we consider Beth as being right that my “heading skills and dates” are awful, what kind of a company keeps a typist working for them if the typist is horrible.  What does that say about the company AND what kind of a company doesn’t QA their employees or ICs and let them know in order to make them better MTs.  This company is very disorganized extremely disrespectful of its employees, IC.  I have emailed others who have had terrible experiences as well.


     


    I would suggest run the other way, otherwise DO NOT have any personal emails with her in asking questions, be prepared for many phone calls, tons of junk mail and no feedback.

    Sorry, but even spell check misses stuff. You have to at least be able to spell to do this job. Well, you don't have to know English if you are Indian, but us Americans have to spell!
    Quality is quality, and really should have nothing to do with getting new accounts.
    MQ isn't scheming against the MTs regarding QA. They just want a quality finished product.  Heck, half the slams on this board about MQ are the garbage work the MTs put out.  Talk about a no win situation! Getting used to a new account should not lower your quality by any real degree if you are a good MT.  Even getting used to new dictators or ESLs. Good MTs still produce quality work, and should not have to fret over QA.

    As long as we accept the exploitation that this MT profession has reduced us to, it will keep going on.  The top of this is the outsourcing.... well, get your legislators involved....better yet, the MEDIA.  How many patients know their private medical information is being outsourced to halfway around the world? The squeeky wheel gets the grease.  Do the patients know that their info won't be sold by some unscrupulous MT (halfway around the globe) to insurance companies, etc., making all this Medical records privacy a joke. It's not just our T-shirts being made in other countries; it's our most personal, private medical information, of which the public is not being made aware of.  Not to speak of undercutting out profession to the bare bone.  Granted, most US MTs are willing to work below market wage just to have a job, especially in economically-deprived areas, where outside jobs are scarce, and kids need to be fed and mortgages need to be paid.  MTSOs know this.  I'll bet they'll be the first to lobby against any action against outsourcing.  (Wouldn't you be...if you got people to work for pennies while you're raking in the big $$$'s ?  Still, notwithstanding the outsourcing problem, we're still going along with all the BS...working for pennies, whatever the client wants, he gets... ever notice how all of the MTSO flak seems to be re. unpaid work...mostly, demographic issues we're not even paid for... bec. It has to be done.. Part of the job... The client put the wrong info but we have to correct it...all unpaid work.  Just give me a job with nothing but straight transcription, w/o the unpaid/demo. flak..I'll take it even at the present, absurd pennies-per-line state of the profession.

    but all this bouncing has slowed me down so much that I cannot make a good wage. I would never cut corners, but I can see where work quality will suffer in this scenario. I am sick and tired of bouncing around to all kinds of accounts!

    They give you a 60-day probation and pay you a guaranteed rate of $10 an hour to give you the chance to learn your account, the preferences, and get your speed up. They are sticklers on grammar, AAMT BOS rules, etc. They mentor you to the degree they have time, then if it is just not a good fit, they let you go. It is acute care. Some people have learned some very bad habits working for small companies on clinic notes, etc., and it's hard to re-learn the correct way of doing things. I think the company is very fair and almost everyone is very family-oriented and willing to help each other out. In the end, they have a company to run and do look for the cream of the crop or at least people who learn quickly enough and don't keep making the same mistakes over and over. The only other thing I could guess is it was just a personality conflict, degree of professionalism, or something. The company has approximately 400 MTs working from home, some who have been there for 10+ years, so they are doing something right!
    Quality
    Also was outsourced and work went to CBay. Our facility had to bring most of it back in house after less than 3 months. What I don't get is how they continue to get positive press without anyone telling the other side of the story. For our facility it was a disaster. The same old story, they got what they paid for and in the end it cost them a bundle.
    Don't you want quality?
    $14/hour is just not enough to live comfortably these days, in my opinion.  It's esp. not enough for a hardworking transcriptionist/editor like me.  If you truly want quality editors, compensate them according to current standard-of-living - I'd say at least $20/hr.

    This had nothing to do with quality or job performance...it was simply a way to move out those QAs hired at a rate they currently no longer want to pay and fill those slots with those who will work for a wage that is barely livable, forgetting that they ultimately will get what they pay for..  This is happening a lot these days and I believe it will come back to haunt them, but for now it seems to me that is what is happening.

    Quality?
    Yeah --- the company I work for cares a lot about qualit; but they care more about the bottom line. To solve both problems, they strip off all of the easiest work to send to vendors, sticking the the Americans with worst of the worst; they try to make us feel good about this by telling us that we should feel honored and it is a privilege for them to trust us with the crap work that cuts our income in half. And it is not necessity, we are frequently out of work; but they saved money by screwing us over in order to pay less to the foreigners.

    Some of these companies just always have an angle.

    None of us were born with good qualities, but we deleveop it through education and experience! Quality can be achieved by hardwork.

    Perhaps, if the output was that bad, as you feel, then companies like nuance, spheris, spi would not have opened their branches in our country.

    It's very sad, but in today's world, everything is about the almighty dollar. We don't get paid 1/100th of what we're worth to the hospitals and the docs. Without us, they'd be a really big world of hurt. In fact, aside from having our hands directly on the patient's, we may as well be physicians... we have to know everything they know just to transcribe a report. That just frosts my cookies. How about yours? Don't get me wrong.. I love, love, love what I do, but just want to know for a moment that we are appreciated for bringing in the majority of ALL the revenue in the medical field. As I have said many times before on this post, I have 25+ years experience and still make starting pay of .0825 cents a line. That, to me, stinks. Having owned my own business, I know what the MTSOs charge the hospitals. We are being ripped off royally every day.

    Yes, it frosts my cookies!!  Remember the days when MTs didn't just THINK they were prima donnas, they WERE prima donnas?  We've gone from prima donnas to typing monkeys.  It isn't just MTs.  I posted above about the nurses who were demonstrating outside the local hospital because they had been fired to make way for new graduate nurses who would work for lower wages? They weren't old hags either, most appeared to be between mid 30s and mid 40s.  It isn't just  MTs, it's all workers in every field.  Employers don't want experience, they want cheap!  Not getting into politics here but no matter which candidates are elected in November, it is only going to get worse.  News flash:  There is no change going to Washington D.C.  Well, maybe worse change.  Nothing will change until the American people wake up and say ENOUGH. 
    How is the quality for the MTs. I am not sure about getting a job with them. I
    would appreciate if you would elaborate a little further if you wouldnt mind.  I was just also wondering if the accounts are loaded with ESLs.

    When was the last time you looked at the American MTs' final document?  Many times, it is not a pretty picture.  Just ask on this site alone how many MTs proofread all of their work before sending to the client?
    Quality and VR
    I would love to know where you work.  It would be great to find a company that was not quite so particular with VR.  I have only been doing VR for a short while, but QA catches everything, word-for-word.  Cannot leave out a single a, an, or the, or for that matter put one in that is not there.  There is so much to correct, I cannot even make line count that matched my norm on regular transcription most of the time.

    Who said my quality had anything to do with Dorothy's decision to sell her company? Do you think Transcend would have offered to buy her company if the hospitals had said the quality they received from MDI was poor?

    Honestly, you could have a little more compassion for those people whose lives and livelihood just changed. Your comments were rude and out of line.
    MQ BIG CHANGE?
    I just love these posters..gonna be a big change..well, what?  Dont post something like that and not explain.  It only causes anxiety and speculation in an already scarey field, with outsourcing, etc.  Big change, well, come on now..what is gonna be the big change and where did you get your information from?
    Well, then maybe that should change.
    Maybe they, too, should be paid based on what they produce, with a little bonus if the person stays a year.
    Sometimes you just get in a rut and need a change. Sometimes you just
    get burn-out in general and think it is the company/account.  I've left a position before because I thought the grass was greener, but it wasn't.  Had to learn new platform, new software program, new dictators with various new accents to figure out, new way to count lines, etc.   Even if the pay was a bit better I still figured I lost money and the grass wasn't greener.   No company is perfect, but there are some very good companies out there, but there can still be intermittent issues with any company.  Sometimes talking with management might resolve issues, sometimes taking a break will refresh you and make you see things in a different light.  List pros/cons of present account and compare that what a different company has to offer.  You may realize you are better off where you are and if not you can feel comfortable that you're making a change that really will be better for you.   If you do decide to leave current account just don't burn any bridges so you leave with the possibility of being able to return if new account/company doesn't work out.

    the subject somewhat.  Gastric bypass and lap banding scare me to death!  I personally know of five people who underwent the procedures, and all had complications, one being death.  They all had excellent surgeons, one being my surgeon.  Everyone responds differently I know, and that is the problem.  It is too much of a gamble for me.

    Are we all in the same boat?  I work for the largest national in the country and am hoping to hear about another position with another company tomorrow or Wednesday.  Many of us have been MTs for years and make less now than then we started.  We get thrown into the national cesspool and may get 20 different states in 20 different reports.  Impossible to make a good line count this way.  I'm slow to change and always fearful, but I'm really at the end of my rope.  Anyone want to add to this conversation, please feel free.  Happy New Year everyone!  May 2008 bring us more MONEY and more CONTENTMENT!!
    have to change dsl
    well just talked to Vonage and everything was fine until they tried to transfer my line. Said I have to discontinue DSL through ATT for ATT to allow it, then vonage can transfer it...
    So I will change to time warner for cable and then get the adapter from vonage. Yes it is a lot cheaper, but have to work out all the transfers.

    It was a great benefit for me being an IC because I would work and get big paychecks and being a single mom, I would get the child credits and the earned income tax credits, and I would actually get money back, quite a bit.


    But now that that is not going to happen anymore, I want some PTO and all those nice benefits!!!  Im just ready for a change...


    Which companies actually hire employees and offer PTO, etc.?

    Do you know by any change the
    system you will be using? Some are apparently much better than others.

    employee handbook?  I briefly read it this morning and it seems that it boils down to **you owe us this, this and that and we don't owe you anything**.
    That will all change.

    I've been in the business 20 years too.  I worked for Transcend for 4 years and my honeymoon period with them lasted about 7 months.  Once the honeymoon was over, it was one of the worst job experiences I have ever had.

    your mind if you were the sole bread winner as a big majority of MTs are. You wouldn't care about weekends at that point. You do what you have to do to support your family.

    What you are not getting is the change.
    If you've always been used to it, fine...you have worked it out with the mortgage company, car payment, insurance, etc. You've got auto payment set up for your internet or your phone bill. So all those things have to be realigned. That will take some time to readjust both the inflow of money and the getting the autopayments changed.

    And, some of you folks really don't seem to have any feeling for those that literally go paycheck to paycheck. I work two jobs. The only time I can take any length of time away from my desk is on Saturday evening and Sundays. Which works out great if I'm getting paid on Fridays. Not so good when it's falling through the week....so you're waiting extra days waiting for payday anyway and then you've got to wait longer before you can get out and do anything with it.

    I'm glad your life is so stable that that waiting three extra 3 days doesn't impact you in any way. But having been there myself, and still almost there, I can certainly expend a little sympathy and try to understand how it might be problematic for someone else.

    THIS quality MT did NOT stay there!
    I am going to start for 2 others shortly after the holidays, which gives me a little time for my family during the holiday season. When I did work for them, I did have a BIG notion to hand in one day's work with NO SPACES, just to see what they would do!
    Sound quality
    The sound is great. That has been resolved and it was not the system but the phone lines from the facilities. No need for technical support, but I have never had any problems reaching someone and had an immediate response.
    Quality not QUANTITY is......

    WAY WAY MORE IMPORTANT.  Yes we have to be able to type (I hate the use of that word).  We must be able to transcribe the dictation.  BUT, we must also know WHAT we are transcribing and if we are using the correct terms and what those terms mean (again so we can make sure that we are putting out accurate work).  Yes, we have reference books (or we better at least).  However, some things just have to be committed (? sp - it is late )  to memory.  People like you bring the industry down.... unfortunately without realizing it.  I really do wish you the best, but please give some thought into not bashing the company for a harsh test and give more thought into spending the time actually learning medical terminology.  Also remember, there is the Word Board here for questions!!


     


    QA is quality assurance
    QA is Quality Assurance of an MTs work, it could be an editor. Editor is also commonly used in the VR (voice recognition) editing, as they do not transcribe standardly, they edit.
    Control and quality
    You know, MTs can't have it both ways. On one hand, we seem to want recognition that what we does can impact patient care and thus is very important. On the other hand, we don't want to be held accountable for the errors we make. When a patient's chart has a major error in it, that can impact patient care. And unfortunately sometimes the only way to get people to wake up and pay attention is by  penalizing them for those errors and for going so fast they simply are not paying attention. I've never had a deduction for those kind of things so perhaps can't really speak to it, but the way I understand that policy it seems to be quite fair to me.
    Anyone else having quality issues because of too
    I'm a long-time MT and I pride myself on my high QA, but in the last couple of months I've made several serious errors.  I can't believe how sloppy I was.  I know a good part of it is because I'm so tired and distracted constantly about not having enough work at TWO services.  I have 9 accounts between my 2 jobs, and it's also very hard to keep up with all the different account specs.  (FWIW, all three errors were made at one of the services.)  Before this, I had received one call about QA in seven years, and now I've received three in two months.  I feel like the worst MT in the world .
