Not so sure they can

I have worked for 2 MQ offices in the last 8 years and when it came down to changing from SE to FT I told my office manager that I could not work 8 hours. I do 1200 lines in about 3-4 hours a day and my hands will no longer take that pace for 8 hours a day. He told me to just fill in the time sheet with 8 hours and send it in. As long as I did my 12,000 lines per PP, that is all he cared about. Now, with the second office, I find this to also be the case, as so far no one has insisted on a 8 hour day. However, the law does require either/or and it cannot be both ways. If we are full time, 8 hours, per day, then the pay-per-line is out the door. However, it will take an act of congress to probably get anything done about it and a lot of MTs to challenge it. Also, if we do not punch a time clock, how will anyone know when we are on or not. At this point in time I use a C-phone and I hang up and go back in at least 3 times a day. I just do not think they can track everyone's daily working hours. Heck, they have trouble keeping track of their memos, let alone our hours. It does not make sense to be concerned more about hours spent in front of the computer, when the volume of work that is accurately and professionally transcribed should be their main objective.
