nope, not me, NOPE Worked to hard and long to sm
know what I know, my expertise is worth more and constant updating . Keep looking on the job boards. Email and ask if VR, pay for space and lowest to highest line rate for the POSITION (generic question) not I have 20 years exp. etc
i've worked for MQ for a long time and never got a raise
nm
Um, I specifcally said I've been there long time so wasn't sure about sm
the starting PTO; wasn't trying to pretty anything up. As for BCBS and dental - personally where I live, it is a great plan. I'll stick to my guns on that. As for the lower deductible last year, did you not join the BCBS health calls to discuss WHY that happened?
What companies don't make you follow exact schedule?
Looking for a company that allows some flexibility on what time I type each day instead of a strict schedule that I set up. This is just to deal with occasional appointments or if the kids have a class play I want to see, etc. Most days a schedule would be fine but I also don't want to be stuck with it!
The company I used to be with was like this but they now require schedules to be followed. I see the point in that but I also know that some exist with more flexibiity!
Any ideas?
Thanks!
FOLLOW-UP - Made a decision about best company
Thanks for everyone's answers. I have chosen Company 4 in the QA or Editing area, as the problem nitpickers are being weeded out. I don't want a lot of baggage or to work with a company that frequently runs out of work. Here's my original post, and I hope it is helpful to others. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.
I have 15 years inhouse, but we are being outsourced. Several coworkers have gone to work for different nationals, and I am weighing working as an MT vs. QA or editor. I would like advice on what would be best to do or to expect. I have learned the following about several companies, none of which is consistent:
Company 1: QA manager has a BA in Political Science. She runs the department as a manager only. The QA people who are chosen have at least 10 years of experience and appear to be very knowledgeable. Most of them are very helpful and are available around the clock. Most accounts have plenty of work, but a lot of ESL.
Company 2: QA manager has many years in the field and supervises QA people with also many years of experience. They have a separate Document Completion department that does nothing but fill in blanks, but it is managed by a nurse with a Bachelor's degree. They have virtual round-the-clock coverage, and you can call them for an answer or to listen to the job you are working on. They are very helpful and friendly. I hear that MTs frequently run out of work.
Company 3: Not impressed because of favoritism here. A highly qualified QA manager with years of experience, including teaching, was moved to a lateral position after a few days by a power seeker with only 2 years' experience as an MT. After that, most of the QA department either quit or was fired. The new QA director does actual QA herself but does not get along well with everyone. Some of the QA department is helpful and some are not. They also promote some after only a few months with the company regardless of experience, which creates hard feelings among those with more longevity and experience. Very poor coverage at night and on the weekend. Plenty of work on most accounts.
Company 4: Editing and QA is separate. They require 10 years' experience as an Editor and 15 years' experience in QA. The QA and editing managers distribute the work and work as managers only but they are very approachable. The QA people are knowledgeable but most of them feel superior to the MTs. Most of the editors are fine but get frustrated if easy blanks are left and also seem to be too glad to report it, almost like tattling beyond necessity. Plenty of work.
As you can see, these are all very different, and I wonder if I would be better off to just remain an MT. However, I don't want my work screened by someone who is "just starting out" as an MT. I cannot figure out why the standards are so different. If you work for these companies, you know who they are. I just don't know where to turn. Help!

Great company. I've been recommending this company for a long time.

Nope. I'm thru with this thread. I made my point. We all just need to agree to disagree with b
nm
I agree they have WAY over hired, but I am required to work my schedule..you got it made then!
As long as anyone's work schedule is
approved by their supervisor, that is between them and their supervisor, not anyone else's business.
Nope. I have gotten paid on time every time.
You must be thinking of somewhere else.
Your puter should ask you Sun. morning about making the time change. Just follow the 'custom'
s
If you can stand sitting for long stretches to fulfill your schedule, you might not mind it...
I prefer working a required line count, not a set, rather inflexible schedule as I had at Webmedx...It's all in what you want to put up with. They, like almost all MTSOs, could care less about YOU..they just want you to grind out your lines. My supervisor was new and fairly unreasonable as well. Good riddance...
Wow, I've never made that much an hour. I do about $18.
nm
I guess you've never made
Grow up.
If that is all you have to complain about you've got it made. And they
probably aren't licking the stamps as they just peel and stick them now.
I think this is the 3rd post you've made sm
about this. If you only had 8 days into this job, just let it go and move on. You sound hysterical.
Babe, I've made...
...the turn so many times in my career (see other posts below). I was just hoping for a nice short, straight stretch until retirement. I'm getting really tired of fighting the wheel, hitting potholes, getting flat tires, only to find that I picked the wrong road anyhow. It's wearying.
Geesh..It's been a long day. I don't think I made any sense on that post.
Bottom line is, best pay rate out there, most of the time enough work and good benefits. They have a lot of happy employees.
What really sucks is that I looked for a LONG, long time -sm
before joining DRC - wanted a highly reputable, not-too-big co. that was LOCAL, and that treated its MTs humanely. I'm very happy with DRC & had planned to stay with them permanently.
made type -- SO UPSET OVER TT and their NO WORK situation way TOO LONG now
sorry about type, but very, very upset with the TT has lost any concern/care for their MT's who make their paychecks for them. Dictatphone doesn't pay you your salary, nor pay for your raises. Your MT's allow your paychecks the remain the same and allow you to give yourselves RAISES.
Leads/sups, etc are transcribing OUR WORK now and we have none to little no paychecks to pay our bills.
You who are thinking of hiring on with TT better give some very consideration to your decision. GOOD ADVICE.
Me, too. I've made so little money this month that I can't even
make my house payment. This is getting beyond ridiculous. If it's not one thing, it's another. I suppose I could go pawn my computer since I'm not getting any work.
I've made 50K+ in the past, but the variable is
What type of work or accounts you are doing. If you are working as a sub and get put on continually changing unfamiliar work, then you'll be lucky to struggle through 20K. The same person put on work they are good at and familiar with can easily make 30-50K+. Many of MT companies do not match familiarity of work and why many skilled MTs are making less and less.
I've made in the upper 40s and low 50s for several years now.
From 2 top nationals. Yes, it is possible.
Can everyone do it? No. Some people are better at it than others. Some can put their headset on, hit that pedal and keep on until it's all done. Others cannot sit still, don't have a very good skill set, are easily distracted or listen to too many complaints by others. Never let others help you decide how to feel about YOUR job.
Some of it will rely on your skill set, your mindset and your self-discipline. Some of it will depend on working for a company that you are comfortable with - comfortable with their set up, how work is divided, their base and incentive pay, etc. If you're upset, you'll not perform as well. If you're unhappy, you'll spend more time being upset than working and being productive.
I've made $35,000 for the years I worked there. SM
I would have to kill myself for $50,000 and I don't choose to do that. I give you credit if you were able to achieve it.
The pay rate has been lowered there now, due to SR. The rate of pay at MQ has always been higher, but this field is dying out where ever one goes.
Do you follow along with the mouse? I follow allow with my right arrow, the cursor going over the
words...I mean what do you do with the mouse exactly? I know that is a weird question, but I am still not getting it...haha! It could be a difference in platforms for sure, because my mouse is completely worthless to me in VR. I used EXText.
Yes, MTTest does cut you off if you've made too many errors up to that point.

OSI Part-time schedule
Can anyone tell me if OSi part-timers are on a set schedule or if there is flexibility allowed? Thank you.
Okay. Flex your time. Change your schedule if necessary. sm
If you have been in this business any length of time, you should know how work volumes fluctuate, especially around the holidays.
You fill out a schedule a month at a time..sm
and you can change it at anytime. You are not required to work weekends. The work is pooled, they use ExText. They are wonderful!
Nope, more like a matter of time before we're all working for chump change.

I've been there quite a while, pay on time, growth spurt right now, so good time to get on board,
new accounts and lots of work, and before someone says it, I'm not management, just an employee.
Pay on time? Flexible schedule? Decent accounts?
Flex time requires a schedule. Crazy huh?
There is nothing to like about MQ at this point in time. So many people work there because the company needs people but the turnover of people is pretty significant. Be very leery of the pool. It is murky and will not allow you to make money because in that pool are thousands of client profiles you must read to see how to format the report before you can even begin to transcribe and make money. After you read this client profile, you may not see the client again for weeks which was a waste of your time. The speech recognition program is the worst requiring many corrections at a reduced rate of transcribed reports. No one can make real money with the disadvantages MQ gives you to worQ with.
Anyone know what full time is at Transtech? Lines or hours? Do they flex schedule? nm
x
Yes, pay on time. We give a 2-week schedule. Accounts pretty good
I applied at Webmedx, took test, passed, and they said no to my part-time schedule.
Maybe call and ask before you waste your time like I did.
well, i've not been at MDI that long,
but in my experience, the cphone acct's are not 'mixed in' with the wav or i/net accts, but you hire on for one or the other types. Per the OP's question, they are a great company and picky as to who they hire.
But it's not like that NOW. You've been gone how long? sm
Talk about beating a dead horse.... We have so much new business on-line at this point, it's not even funny.
You can tell you've been at MQ for way too long!!!
I've come here for as long as I've been...
...an MT, for the same reasons all of you do. I don't scan the boards looking for false accusations, but when something comes up that does involve me, I would like the opportunity to defend myself. That's all...
DSG is awesome-pay on time, management is great, plenty of work, flexible schedule. nm
Amphion hires part-time - they're very strict schedule-wise though
Since part time is so hard to find these days your options are limited, so if you don't mind working for a company that is a stickler for strict schedule adherence, I say try Amphion.
T-C - full-time is 1000 lpd along with a "rough estimate" schedule of what hours you'll wor
It's pretty nice.
p.s. Can you share how long you've been with them? nm
x
Thanks, I've been with Spheris but not that long. nm
xx
We've never been down this long before, so not sure what is going to happen, hopefully we will ge
into a bonus situation, but it's too early to tell.
I've worked for them not too long but so far
I think their work ethics and how they treat their employees far surpasses (in my eyes) my temporary lack of work. I've worked for too many nationals that treat me like pond scum, so I really like these people.
May I ask how long you've been at WX, Webhead? Thanks. nm
x
They've been out of social circulation way too long
Plus, they have nothing better to do than argue with strangers on a message board. I can't believe what a mess their lives have to be. Sad.
