I always submit my invoice using one of the accepted line counting softwares out there. Never a discrepancy on my invoice and paid in one week or less after submission of my invoice. Fortunately, I work for a company who values their MTs and pays quite fairly. I asked the question only out of curiosity. I only wanted more information regarding the MT platforms for future use. No plans on going anywhere for now, but one never knows in this industry.

For the major ones, I can find stock information and all that, but I can't seem to find much on this one.  Anybody know what size they are?

 If you wouldn't mind, I would like to get an email stating the company you work for now.  I plan to stay where I am as long as I can, but I really want to have some options open if things get any worse.  I am a long time MT, educated, hospital experience, at home experience, IC experience.  Thanks.

Don't be so quick to assume that a company of that size does not know the laws. sm
It can come back to bite you later on; fraud has no statute of limitations.

You need to look at the facts: Companies pay unemployment insurance in every state they have employees in. They pay whether there are claims or not. The money paid to you was money paid into a general fund, so you really didn't do anything to the company themselves. It's not like companies write a check to the unemployment division; the money comes from money paid in out of taxes. Shame on you for taking money for free when you were an IC. It is illegal, it is unethical and your name should be assact, not classact, based on the obvious ignorance you have in most areas.

By the way, most MT jobs are employee status, not IC. If you were applying for jobs every week online and offline for six months and could not get a job, the answer is simple: You need a new career because you suck.

Don't worry. Next week, the bitter people will move on to attacking another company. It is just
you watch this board, you will see a pattern. One a week. Have to shred the reputations of good companies to bits just to feel good about being unhappy in general. I wonder sometimes if these people job hop constantly, even work at all, or work for the company they are bashing. Maybe it's just sick fun for those with no outside lives :)

I am gradually switching everything over from my ShortHand into the ESP of ExText.  The Shorthand plays out so it takes longer, the ESP is on your screen instantly, so I would say don't buy the Shorthand if you are going to be using ExText.  ESP is better.
Unfortunately, the only way to do this at present is to
copy it from the add screen. It is a pain, but once you start getting used to the names, you will be able to just type them in without having to look them all up.

**I sure wish they would find a way to just do an insert though.
Okay, I am a PRESENT employee
I found out for FACT that the reason MY account was running out of work was because they were offshoring MY account jobs to India- they are continuing to do so. I have health insurance and my daughter needs some minor surgery- after that I am out of here!!!!
Christmas present
I also received a nice present from mine this week,as well as nice thank you gift at Thanksgiving! I've never received a single, solitary thing from any other company that I've worked for before. I feel appreciated.

I'm a little chagrined to see you were started at 10/5. I have been working at Focus for almost 2 years now at 8/4. Unless you worked 3rd shift, which is 10/5.

After a long dry period, there seems to be a lot of work right now. Unfortunately there are some bugs in the EditScript version 8 now and then (for example, now!)

22-25 an hour is something I have not come close to. I do best with a nice mix of VR and typing, but you have to be on the specific account that would provide that mix! And I don't have inside info on how to get on an account like that.

Also I know the HR person from the company visits these websites. . .

At least I get PTO/sick time, but keep running out of work, and seems like everything falling apart. All work will be going to India soon.

I just want to work for an honest company that treats their employees right. I wonder why that is so difficult to find.
At the present time I have no choice
but to put up with this baloney.  One of her good friends is an MT and she tells me all these stories about how she met this guy online (but she's married), and how her friend drives her co-worker crazy, etc. etc.  She talks negative abouy her friend(s) as well as her other employees.  I just shut up and listen.  You dont know me - so don't judge me ya old fart!  You're a perfect example of what happens to people who stay MTing for too long.  Glad this is a temp thing!

when you were hired, you were told when your paydays would be. There was no warning or notice made ahead of time that paychecks would be late. THEREFORE, your employer is responsible for the bounced check fees that were caused by the direct deposit being late!!! This is for direct deposit only - NOT FOR PAYCHECKS arriving by mail. Checks arriving by mail could be held up as a result of the postal service, carrier, etc. Therefore, your employer is not responsible for checks bounced because of that.

Unlimited LD depends on your account. At present, I
don't have the luxury of having an account that is accessible via dictation over the internet; however, I sure wouldn't include the internet fee as due to working for MDI-MD.I already had an internet fee, as I really assume most do.I also had an extra phone line, one for home, one for business, per my prior employment & to enable me to keep business expenses separate from personal expenses at tax time. Vonage has worked out well for me as my LD carrier which is available as VOIP & connected directly through a modem into my C-Phone via my internet carrier, thereby eliminating the need for a second phone line. I know some accounts haven't been compatible with such, but I would ask recruiter and/or iaison if this was a possibility for whatever account you were going to be assigned to. Two years ago I purchsed a C-Phone on ebay for $350 - that is less than a rental fee for 1 year. For me,the amount I pay Vonage is worth the great people I work with, my fantastic account, and my flexibility and sanity.

Is anyone currently working for SoftScript at the present time. MTs used to comment on
the sound with this company.  Has this improved and what are they like to work for with their accounts.  I know they are always hiring.

be used to once again make MQ a true leader in the medical transcriptin industry, realizing the value of all employees and the realization that a happy work force is a productive work force.
I agree, size really does matter! :) SM

With a work force mainly at home, it just becomes unmanageable to try and run a well oiled machine and give each MT the kudos they deserve where there are so many of them.  I would settle for a small company any day.  They don't have the luxury of treating good employees badly.  No MQ for me.  As far as contributing, I would contribute mentoring and put my 35 years' experience to use bringing along the next generation.   I would also do away with the 65 character line standardization initiated by AAMT (who have since stepped away from their discovery) and go back to the gross line, which is much more verifiable for billing and for paying the MT.  Lastly, I would educate the powers that be that the MTs are not their cross to bear.  They are, in fact, their bread and butter and they deserve a decent wage, benefits, and respect.

Can we change the font size without changing

the appearance of the document font/size when it goes to the client. This is a Word-based program, and I know QA has asked me not to send with View size changed, so it must stay at 150% (or whatever size) when you change it in the document.  Thanks for your help.

but which are they? Keystrokes, TT? Are they mid size? That means better? I think it just depends on who you are, how much experience and what platform you end up getting and with accounts going here, there any everywhere, lots of luck.

At least I think I read something about it on the internal company forum.  It wasn't affecting my accounts, so I didn't pay much attention, but some people on some accounts were having to reset their font size over and over and the update was supposed to correct that.
Other than the obvious MQ and Spheris, what companies round out the top 10 in terms of size? sm

Which offshore out of those?  I want to go with a big company for a few reasons, but I do not want MQ or Spheris.  I'm also just curious.  It seems like they are very big and the rest are much smaller.  Am I right or just assuming?  Which company or companies do you think are growing and will catch them or close?  Are there any out there that have that potential?  I would love to get in for chance for advancement but not ground level because I want stability.  Easy to know what I want, hard to articulate it clearly.  I have read previous posts, tried to research other sources and want to put together a good list for myself.


Font size matters for gross line, so do margins
less lines because more fits on a line. First person asked how a gross line compares to 65 chars. If it's 12 font with 1 margins, it's about 1-1/2 to 2x 65 char line count, i.e., 7 cents per gross line would be around 8.5 to 9 cents per 65 char.
Why worry about it
If you know it wasnt you, why worry about it?  Just let it go and then you cannot be accused of stirring the pot.  You dont work there anymore so dont concern yourself with it.  Just let it go so that it can be dropped.

I'm sorry that the OP is having a bad experience, but mine has been just the opposite and wanted you to know this.  I never run out of work, quite the opposite actually.  Also, I have found the management to be nothing less than professional and kind.  Good luck in your decision.

it all depends on the account you are working on. I have 1 account where I can do 2000+ in 6 hours; but on my second account, I can't get anywhere near that.

I have known the lady that started this company from scratch and if anything, she is honest, reliable and dependable--she would let you know if something were wrong and/or if you were in need of worrying. They are a very talented team @ TransTech.
That's something I worry about...
I worked for a smaller company before and when the work dropped, it dropped like a rock.  I am just stuck as to whether to accept the job or go with the larger national.  This is for editing.

TTS pay is so bad that their employees are from the bottom of the barrel. No good MT would work for them, couldn't afford to, so no company is going to keep using TTS because of poor work quality.
