In Reply to: No....sm - other than through a court order
Obviously, TT was able to look at the information provided in the posts and determine who they FELT were making the posts.
No information has been given out by MTStars on this situation whatsoever.
Move on.

court order?
Terri Davis is gone by court order? How? Why? Such dish!
Who's the businessman running the place?
More info is needed! Totally interested now!
Other than through a court order!!!! Never said the info was NEVER given out at all! nm
laskdjf
Your point? They have to obey a court order. nm
nm
I do not give out that information. However one co I made $17
was Medquist. My current company pays different rates to different QA and I would never post what I earn. They do not need QA people. Just do the best you can and try and negotiate a fair QA rate for yourself. It will come. Unfortunately, even at $17, that is only half of what I earned as an MT. I once had a QA position that paid me $20 as an employee. You just have to negotiate.
When I advertise, I give all that information as
well as all information related to the job.
I worked for one company once that had their pre-canned ads. I hated them because they told nothing. They did give their website, but it was way old.
I agree that all companies that advertise for MTs need to give their website
Can someone give me information on Precyse Solutions...sm
I would like any and all information regarding Precyse Solutions...I know they are Employee Status. But could you tell me about their pay, cost of health insurance, etc. Thanks.
PS - Archives give conflicting information.
Some posts say they provide no benefits. Some posts say they have a line count quota and other posts say there is no line quota. Some say they deduct for errors and other posts say they don't deduct. Some posts say they offshore and other posts say the don't offshore. Very confused. That's why I posted another inquiry into this company.
Can any give me some general information about Keystrokes? (sm)
I am considering applying to them as they sound like a great company to work for. What platform do they use? Is it internet based? C-phone? Something else? How easy and MT friendly is that platform? How is the work load? And finally, do they hire IC, PT, and/or FT? Thank you.
Have done that. Information is old. Anyone care to give input? nm

Can anyone give me information on Transcend Services Voice Recognition editors? sm
I was offered a job with them. Curious as to how good their benefits are, how easy the program is, and if the dictations are REALLY awful or just as any others. Any input on anything to do with the company and/or information on Voice Recognition editors would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
It's time to get involved in
politics and vote for the candidates who have a plan fixing the health care mess. They won't bother if we just sit on our thumbs and wish for a miracle. The corporations are right up in their faces with their needs and wishes, we need to be also.
The hospital involved
used at service with work at home MTs, for one thing. It was a complex case, but several people at several levels did not follow rules and regs.
Too many companies involved & they sm
will make the choice not to deal with unionized workers. There is no law forcing any company to become a union shop and I doubt seriously any of them would. That is why a union cannot work for transcriptionists.
I was not involved in any posts at all, but ICs
I am not interested in ICing at the moment, but those who do IC work have the right to be upset at this who work as supposed ICs, yet let their employer -- note that I used this word intentionally - they let their employers dictate the hours to work, the lines to produce, and hold them to a set schedule. This is the polar opposite of what an IC is. When MTs do not realize this and happily accept these illegal working conditions, it ruins the IC marketplace for the rest of the ICs. One company gets away with it and the next one follows suit. That's how we got in the mess we are in today. When an IC says yes to a set schedule set forth by their employer, and is told how many lines to type, etc, it is 100% an employee position - the MTSOs just get their cake and get to eat it too, by having MTs, women, at their beck and call as employees when they have no legal right to do so. Everyone loses - the ICs, the MTs and the other MTSOs who are following the laws. The more ICs who are ignorant of the situation, the less true IC positions will be left. Our freedom to work as IC is literally just about the last perk most of us has left. It should not be taken away by fellow MTs who have not a clue of the laws and how it should be. So, yes, its a very very important issue and one that we should all understand and support, whether employee right now or IC. It impacts our entire industry.
course not, no $, no pay. But if it goes to court......nm
n/m
I saw this tried in a court
It wasn't an MT but an ER physician who was being sued for breach of his noncompete contract. The ruling was that he could not take any of his employers clients but according to the judge (Louisiana) to enforce the no compete to any greater extent would deprive him of his right to make a living. He also won his counter suit asking for payment of his attorney fees to defend himself. Don't know about other states but I would assume it would be pretty much the same. These suits never stop trying to intimidate us do they?
court
As you said you know this will not hold up in court. So sign the paper, get your money, and find another job. Honestly, I do not think they will be hunting you down for the next 12 months to see what you are doing. Obvisouly, this pay is not even covering 12 months of unemployement so what do they think you are going to do. It is not like your a cashier at Walmart (nothing wrong with that) just saying that you have to be trained in the MT field and tht if you went out of the field for a year you would have a hard time finding a company that would take you back. Please let us know what you decide.
Jay Vance is involved, so it must be good.

Dislike it, too. Much too involved, too many choices, etc. nm

Man, the testing for these services is involved. nm

seems a little *helium* involved in this response..sm
geez, not to mention some pretty snitty answers.
Yes, I know. Our hands have been tied. I'm sorry for all involved. :( nm

I usually would not get involved in this type of conversation, BUT...lm
Your reference to the Mexicans doing work the US citizens do not want to do is WAY off the mark. If the wages were as they used to be before US employers found that the Mexicans would work for lesser wages and be happy, US citizens WOULD do the work. The same applies to the MT work - were it not sent off shore at a ridiculously acceptable and low wage, MTs in the US would be much happier. With such an attitude, I fully predict that the poor class in the US will rise to meet that of other third-world countries - and your attitude about oh well, that's just the way things are now is exactly one of the reasons this type of working condition is being allowed to happen here on our own soil! Working for a foreign employer is a choice that few US MTs with good work habits and skills is willing to make - and that, in my opinion, should speak volumes! Just because you are willing doesn't make it wrong for others who do not. Just my opinion!!
I wasn't involved in the thread and don't

How did Transtech get involved in this conversation?

When a hospital gets fed up with going to court
rethink if cheap is the way to go in the case of medical records.
It's no fun to go to court on malpractice cases and have inaccurate and incomplete records. You look like a fool and it makes it look like you are even more guilty than you may have been. I have seen it from the side of the medical affairs office and talked to the people who have to go off to fight the battles in the court. Trust me, quantity over quality is not what is needed and hospitals can't afford to lose too many of those cases before they lose accredidation. Then the ballgame is over.
You could try court reporting (sm)
...If you're that sick of transcription.
My sister does it and makes good money. I agree with the poster, above, though - there can be two or three people talking at the same time, some people could be hard to hear 'cuz they're really far from the microphone (a microcassette player you bring yourself). Plus it seems like double the work - you have to go to court and type on that little ShortHand machine (oh, and you have to learn shorthand), then type the stuff out in readable form at home. And you have to have a professional wardrobe to wear to court. Yuck; not for me.
She seems to like it, though. She does have flexible hours (it depends when there's a case going on), works from home but has an office base. She has to drive around to different court locations a lot (she might be able to deduct gas mileage). I think she's considered an independent contractor, with all the pluses and minuses that go with that (more freedom but more taxes, pay for own insurance, etc.).
As I said in my post, I would go to court
and swear on a Bible about the goings on. In fact, I have documentation and print outs to prove back up my statement.
And to clear the air, I am by no means a disgruntled employee. I definitely MADE SOME MONEY working at the company, benefits, etc.
So before you get on your soapbox, you really should read by post again. I said I was with Healthscribe. You are with Spheris - Healthscribe joined up with Spheris, but a lot of the same people are now running Spheris. Maybe they did change their line docking - BUT AGAIN, READ MY POST - I WAS WITH HEALTHSCRIBE AND AT HEALTHSCRIBE THEY DID DOCK THE LINES IF A Transcriptionist WAS SENDING TOO MANY REPORTS TO QA.
I do not and have not worked for Spheris.
You needn't be so smug. I'm not involved at all, other than reading
It takes no guts at all to come on and cheer for your company - any company, and even use your name. Kudos to you, and mgmt will be tickled. It does, however, takes guts to come on here and post, even anonymously, about negatives with a company, any company. I would assume from the postings that the person you are trying to "call out" is a current employee. First of all, you all know that even Larry reads this board regularly, along with all his "eyes" as in MTs. They even discuss it via interoffice email. Second, if said employee is complaining currently about certain issues that are causing his/her unhappiness, he/she will be easily identified by the postings. Its a no brainer. Then Transcend will be all over his/her butt, threatening whatever they want to threaten. I am an ex-employee with Transcend, and I even have to watch what I say regarding my 100% total negative experience, as I don't want them honing in on me, either. Finally, it is just so ignorant to make blanket statements about any complainers who are "vague" as being job-hopping malcontents. I can assure you that one thing that bothered me BIG time about Transcend was how they treated me differently, as in preferential, as a new hire compared to what was supposedly required on hire, i.e. working set shifts, etc. After I was hired and not happy with a set schedule, I was allowed to do what I wanted when I wanted to. That info alone will identify who I amt to my account supes. I was shocked at getting that preferential treatment myself, and that had the opposite impact on me - it made me wonder who WAS getting what and why! And you act as if thousands and thousands of happy Transcend employees are reflective of the health of the company. It is a tiny company in the big picture. When I hired on, I had the impression Transcend was HUGE - right up there with MQ and Spheris, but there are only a 300 employees? If that? Larger than a small MTSO, but nowhere near the volume of the big guns. I also had an account that had mandatory overtime - mandatory, while others had no work, etc. Just wasn't my "fit", but that doesn't mean I'm a job hopping loser MT. Quite the contrare'! So, lighten up on the poster who has graciously told you over and over that he/she doesn't want to post details, and get off your high horses! One can get bucked off easily when riding too high! Or hit in the neck with a branch!
why does this matter so much to you? Are you personally involved or affected?
It seems like you are being vindictive. This was all 15 years ago but you are dragging it up over and over. Perhaps you are jealous of how she turned her life around. Have you never made a mistake?
Past posts said they involved the owner. nm

Tapes? So there is shipping involved too? Yikes nm

I know of folks who have taken a company to court and won
but still has not gotten paid to my knowlege. If it is DT then hang in there....always have to hope for the best.
It is going to superior court. Can't wait to see what happens!
I was in total shock when I read this article. I also thought, from some of the posts on here, that they were pretty good to work for. Guess they totally screwed themselves now!
Email if you want the court papers.
All info for opting in is in those papers. Current employees cannot be fired for opting in.
My friend is a court reporter (sm)
and she was trying to get me into scoping. From my understanding, the court reporter does the stenographer, which then goes through their computer to turn their abbreviations into words. Then, they send it to the person scoping. That person then does all the profreading for them. My friend spends lots of time proofing, so this would really help them out.
Hope this helps somewhat...
Wish I'd chosen court-reporting! -(sm)-
When I was 25, my friend & I were both going to trade school. She chose court-reporting, and tried in vain to get me to take it with her. But no, I chose MT because it was faster and I could get a job quicker.
SHOULDA', COULDA', WOULDA' !!!!
If life were on videotape, I'd rewind back to that year and make the RIGHT choice this time. Too late, now - MTs are screwed.
could lawyers have gotten a court release? NM

MTSOs are the bosses; MTs are the employees. There is no friendship involved. nm
nm
I think I would not stage an accident where a rope around my genitals was involved. sm
Obviously, I wouldn't be around for the embarrassment, but you'd think he'd think about his family. I am sorry he is dead ... and really sorry that it happened under such freaky circumstances.
IC/Overtime Court Case in Texas
There is an 'opt-in' federal labor law case in the Texas courts naming a midwestern MT company as the defendant for nonpayment of OT and IC/employee status violation. If you Google full company names, the case will come up in the results.
Opt-in means that if someone wants to join the law suit they need to contact the defendant's lawyer or the courts. This information is public and easy to find. I paid only $0.64 online to get the legal papers filed with all of the contact information.

If it is a court case, then it is public knowledge

IRS is the final arbiter on this unless their ruling is taken to Tax Court
Below, you'll the link to the IRS page on this question. Paste it your browser. Or, follow the link at the bottom of the post.
As companies exert more and more control over the work, it gets harder and harder to see how most of them can take advantage of hiring people as ICs. I think the IRS has taken their eye off this ball in recent years.
One thing of SPECIAL NOTE: On this page you will find a link to a form called SS-8, which EITHER the company or the worker can file with the IRS for an official determination of your status.
It can take awhile to get this back, but in the meantime, if you're an IC you might want to ask your company whether they have filed an SS-8 for this determination, as the IRS recommends companies that use IC's file this form.

My court report provided the key to her software and
yes, you are IC and basically work for the court reporter. You work when they need you, sometimes weekends when they have rush jobs..without notice because they are not always notified by the attorneys until the last minute and you do HAVE to meet the deadline. Unless you are working for a trial court reporter, you are mainly working depositions. GOOD TO KNOW ABOUT THE ADVERTISEMENT. I think someone with transcribing skills can get into this very easily without that expense. By contacting court reporting companies, you can get the info on the court reporters looking for scopists.
They are cruising for a bruising! I got a check from another co when the labor board got involved
NM
Not the only one. My co has gag order too.

What do you mean by out of order?
Do they offer IC or employee status, full and/or part time? Just curious. With respect to the out of order comment, do you mean disorganized?
Out of order
By out of order I mean she was downright rude when I suggested that I would like to work with my text Expander and dictionaries rather than theirs.
sign a release saying she wouldn't take Transcend to court ?
What is that all about? Is that true? Why?
ho ho ho but the hosp can play Russian Roulette w/going to court with
Those medical records became cheaper for hospitals how? When they go to court with those expensive incorrect records and LOSE, wonder if they think it was cheaper?
Take her to small claims court. Good luck!
