you can choose whether to work the hours they need coverage or not. The MTSO does not need an IC if they are fully covered 8 to 5. They want people apparently to cover that shift - you can determine the hours in the shift you work. Being an IC gives you the flexibility to work, but not to work WHENEVER, the MTSO still has a little to say when you work.
