No, the MTSO is responsible for the final product,

and when they give you a garbage platform and force you to fly through reports to make minimum wage, it's too easy to make mistakes. They know this & don't care, and THEY are responsible for the product they are selling. If your brand new Toyota explodes, you don't sue the assembly guy, you sue Toyota... so bwahaha to the MTSO.

Lawsuits? YOU are responsible for final product, sm
VR doesn't claim to put out a perfect product and never will.
MTSO and client responsible here.
As a former transcription manager I can tell you without even thinking about it that ExText does what it is programmed to do. Your MTSO signs a contract with their clients and all of these things are negotiated. Remember that the new ethics takes the consideration out of whether or not the MT can make a living. It is,however, all about cutting the cost of transcription and I would say it is about time MTs made it their business to be informed about how they are paid and then not rushing to work for companies that do not respect their talents. Why validate people who have no respect for what you do to help their business each day.
As an employee, the MTSO is responsible.
It is their responsibility to make sure their employees are performing to standards. As a good MT, you try to do the best you can with each and every report, but the responsibility ultimately rests on the MTSO.
ExText is solely a Dictaphone product. Don't know
s
dont' ya think it will show in the finished product of a quality MT?

The Dragon 10 product by Nuance is 1000 times better than VR on
escription and dictaphone. It is absolutely amazing. My brother uses it in his office and rarely has to change anything.
Yes, if you did really well on the CareerStep final.
.
Ok, here is my final suggestion
would someone please apply and then post here what they REALLY meant. For 16 or 18 cpl, I could QUICKLY become a RAD MT with or without experience (everything is relative, you know). And if they upped it to 20 cpl, i would even take my C-phone and internet connection to Yorba Linda and work there!
So, I will be sitting by my IE just waiting to click on my MTStars link, click on Company Board, and find out that I can soon be making THE BIG BUCKS doing radiology transcription.
But let's just keep this between us, just IN CASE they only have 3 or 4 positions open, ok? Deal or No Deal?????
Final opinions about job offers
I have been offered as I stated below 2 positions as this point, one with Transcend and one with Softscript. Both have been very nice and responsive, and SoftScript has been very organized about sending sign-on papers and handbooks, etc. I also have the option since I only work part-time and have never run out of work of staying with the Q, but not being able to get a straight answer as to whether or not we will have jobs down the road. Softscript's pay is comparable and even slightly more than what I'm making now, and Transcend's is less, but that's okay if I'm going to have a job down the road. I have to make a final decision by tonight or tomorrow. Thanks everyone!!!
The physician makes the final
We are transcriptionists, not physicians. We don't make any calls. We transcribe what we hear, and they read the report and sign off. It's that simple. It always has been that simple.
No one here deserves the salary of anything more than what they get or make production wise.
Do you really think these MTSOs are charging a million dollars or what? They make money by bidding accounts and then sub the work out whether that be by hiring employees or by contracting with an IC.
I don't know where people come up with this idea that we are the bread and butter of these companies. We are the worker bees. Do a good job and you'll make some money. I make twice as much now working from home than I did hourly with benefits and the benefits were crap.
I can set my own tone. I transcribe to the best of my ability but by darn it if I can't understand what the dictator says, I leave a blank, and they fill it in. That's what transcription is about.
I need sample dictations with their final notes.
Hi,
Can someone suggest me a place to find a few sample dictations with their final notes, so that I could evaluate myself?
thanks

IRS is the final arbiter on this unless their ruling is taken to Tax Court
Below, you'll the link to the IRS page on this question. Paste it your browser. Or, follow the link at the bottom of the post.
As companies exert more and more control over the work, it gets harder and harder to see how most of them can take advantage of hiring people as ICs. I think the IRS has taken their eye off this ball in recent years.
One thing of SPECIAL NOTE: On this page you will find a link to a form called SS-8, which EITHER the company or the worker can file with the IRS for an official determination of your status.
It can take awhile to get this back, but in the meantime, if you're an IC you might want to ask your company whether they have filed an SS-8 for this determination, as the IRS recommends companies that use IC's file this form.
http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=99921,00.html
As an IC you are responsible
for all of your taxes, including the employer match portion to social security. As an SE, taxes are taken out and the employer pays their portion of SS. SE is like being an employee without any benefits.
WE are responsible
Nobody is responsible for how we invest our 401K's but US! If you have a 401K and can't tolerate investment risk, don't put your 401K money in the stock market, put it in a fixed investment. The investment company has nothing to do with how we choose to allocate our 401K investments. If you have a 401K and don't understand how it works, learn! This is vital to your personal financial survival!
I am only responsible for me
If others are so against what the companies are doing, then they need to do something as far as turning them in, etc. I hear a lot of complaining on this board but to tell you the truth, I do not think it is going anywhere with actions.
YOU and YOU alone are responsible for
letting people take advantage of you. Who else is to blame? People sit here talking about not being able to go out of the home, sitting waiting on work. Do you think the MTSOs do not read here. I know they do because 1 day I got an email from 1 replying to a posting I made. As long as you allow someone to make a door mat out of you, it will continue. I know exactly what I am saying. I would make suggestion but it might be construed as being ignorant.
I can't wait to make the final decision today!!!
I am sooooo tired!!!! This is exhausting. LOL I know SoftScript was very organized and already has me ready to go with signs and everything, but am still a little leary of them as far as rigidity and strictness. Transcend seemed a little more flexible, not that you don't have to follow your schedule, but they give you 90 days to get up to speed and Softscript only 30.
ICs are responsible for taxes... sm
and insurance and all withholdings (1099 status). A statutory employee has FICA withheld and usually Social Security (W2 status). Both have to turn in schedules to their companies, but ICs have a little more flexibility. Also, ICs supply their own equipment. Statutories have the option of company supplied (with a rental fee taken from their check, which is waived a lot of times for high production) or use their own equipment. No bennies for either. An IC just usually needs to meet client turnaround times and can stop and start a lot more than a statutory or full employee status person does.
Not sure if company responsible
for this way of counting or not. They don't pay for headers that you have to look up info for which takes time. I would say about a 30% reduction in line count per report disappears. Where it is going? Right back in their pockets I suppose. Im definitely looking elsewhere
Are you responsible for your own taxes?
Do you have benefits? How fast do you type?
Transcend is responsible for this.
That company has some of the worst managers in this business. They do not care about anything but themselves and think if they just slam the accounts with a lot of MLS to keep them current that is called good management. Some of the good managers take the time to balance out the work so everyone has enough but the lazy ones do not care whether or not we can keep our benefits or pay our bills. But you can't do a thing about it, these are the big boss's pets. You can do what I did - find a second company to work for so you do not rely on them for all your income.
Ultimately, doc is responsible.... sm
Ultimately, it comes down to the responsibility of the physician. I used to have physicians that would put things on the reports like, dictated, but not read. and they would think that got them off the hook, but ultimately, it is their responsibility to review the report for accuracy.
I have never heard of that....always waited until regular pay day to receive final check.
Any company I have resigned my position from, I just received my final check like usual on the regular pay date scheduled. No big deal, it was always in my bank when it was supposed to be.
You are so right, I stand chastised, we are responsible!
nm
reflect how responsible you are in other things.
x
Don't jump to conclusions about Wbx being responsible here - sm
you never know what is true in advertising. I'd be questioning the integrity of the J&J recruiters, rather than Webmedx!
who is made responsible for the mistakes
that slip through into a patient's report?
Do you think that all transcribed or VR reports are 100% error free?
This is no reason to stop the ongoing change to EMR.
Same thing.
I would always hope that a responsible intelligent MT...
typed my medical records. However, why should an MT be the ONLY ONE to take the perpetual pay cuts and the increased reponsibilities that should belong to in-house employees...you know those people who get raises and good benefits...such as researching demographics, CCs, etc.
This business is really different than when I got into it almost 10 years ago. I really, really feel for the people who have been in it for longer and have few options for a career change.
Ideally, yes, every member of the team, from those running MTSOs to those in hospital administration, would have patient care uppermost in their minds...but you know without it being said it is all dollars and cents to them.
MTs are just collateral damage, and professional people should not have to take a pay cut for trying to be more professional than the other people on the TEAM.
I shudder at some of the reports that I see, too, but I cannot lay a guilt trip at the feet of MTs trying to make a living when the deck keeps perpetually getting stacked against them.
The last job I went into was exactly this way...if you have a foot pedal and knew speech recognition, you got the job because speech was new to them. Their tech support was also the human resources person, chief salesperson, and CEO, so when my footpedal did not work, I had to figure it out. My QA trial was 3 reports and then off. The office manager sent me the account specifics - updated in 2007, but I had no supervisor. I could e-mail her with questions, do not call please, and she would try to find an answer and e-mail me back. There is no weekend and evening coverage for anything...call Dictaphone if you absolutely cannot work. Otherwise, five blanks is acceptable to send to the client.
To me, these are the people who should be told to buck up, not the MTs. How can you possibly expect to have a quality MT if that is all the time and information you give them? Inferior MTs are being created by the industry and accepted by hospitals so they can pinch a penny.
To ask MTs to switch professions if they cannot cut it is ridiculous, because they will just be replaced by MTs who know less than they do or more work sent overseas because there truly aren't enough American MTs to do the work.
I agree with the OP ... the MT or editor is responsible.
I was told this morning that it is in the works, final paperwork signed last Friday. sm
My single coverage is only $184 a month. I do not know where you heard over $500.

Looking for an MTSO where I can do mostly ops.nm

Better MTSO
I would contribute myself. Sorry to sound conceited, but I'm really good at my job - and I want to work with other people who are good at it, too.
I think that the MTSO can
anonymously or pseudonymously respond with line rate range info to provide general info to the posters.
Another MTSO here
Feeling just like you. Look at the ones who complain about working weekends - how many medical professionals do you know that don't have to work weekends? Why are they in this field if they don't want to work weekends? It's a pity trip. How about working in retail or restaurants?? You want a 9-5 job, go get it, away from home of course.
Would like to talk privately but I don't spend much time on this board and don't really know how to do so. Let me know if you do!
To MTSO - sm
I don't fish, so I don't know what you are smelling, but perhaps something from your personality? I have posted this before, and will continue to do so, as IT DID HAPPEN to me, IT IS THE TRUTH, and I have no reason whatsoever to lie. I want the original poster to know what can happen if she gets
hired by Keystrokes. I want others to benefit from my hiring experience so they don't have to go through what I went through. If my posts are so distasteful to you, do not read them. Your attitude in your posts leaves much to be desired as MTSO...wish I knew your company so that I never cross your path. Perhaps someone posted the truth about your company once too often?
MTSO
Not all MTs are employees. There are ICs and there is a difference.
To: MTSO
Many of the MTs who send that great looking resume' with what appears to be a solid work history...are totally bogus. They may have worked for company x, x, x, x, and x in the last five years, yet they condense and fudge to make it looks like they only worked for company x, and x in the last five years. Many MTSOs don't take the time to check. If the MT passes the test...the MTSO is usually so desperate to get somebody in to work, they hire them without checking.
Also, many claim that they job hop because a company runs out of work....guess what? This happens at almost every MTSO, so instead of quitting only to find yourself in the same situation a few months later, get a second part time IC job to fill in the gaps.
MDI, anybody know how big this MTSO
is and how many MTs they have? Does any body know if it is IC or employee status?
Any info is greatly appreciated.
Does your MTSO allow you to use your own
I'm torn on this issue. My company has just strictly forbidden us to use normals unless they were created by the client, since apparently some MT's have left text in the document in error by not editing correctly. I can see how this causes a serious QA issue, but I can also see that my pay just got cut seriously yet again by not being able to use them.
So, what' s the answer here? How does your MTSO handle normals/standards, and what happens if you make an error with one?
To MTSO
At the risk of causing a stir, I am curious about your comment that no serious MTSO would hire a PCDI grad. I am the poster titled Another PCDI grad right below this post. Again, I state that I do not believe it is all about the school, I believe the person and the determination has a lot to do with how far you can go. I feel very comfortable with the 2 jobs I have. I also know that I am not the only PCDI grad with a job. I truly wish that more people would stop looking at just the school, and start looking at the person, because there are all types.

If I may ask, what does MTSO stand for? Thank you!
