No, not just that, but part of explanation --

Just like every other company, they don't want to have to pay penalties for out of TAT, so VERY TIGHT TAT -- causing MT's to be out of work part/most of the time.

Explanation
Because their management doesn't know how to manage.
No explanation
Just an email that the feature was being disabled. Maybe because they didn't want anyone to know or inquire into line count comparisons between MS Word and Dictaphone (could it have to do with not being paid for headers?).
Ok, I get it now - thanks for the explanation, but (sm)
I have never noticed the lag as far as waiting for the words to appear. I have noticed, though, the wait sometimes for the next report to come up. Granted, slow means maybe 5-6 seconds, but between that and sometimes the cont-R and cont-S being slow, I guess that could slow you down if you add it all up. Thanks for taking the time to explain.
more explanation sm
I meant a general Word Book in above post. I also have specialized Word Books that I use but not so much any more due to only doing Radiology now.
Why run? More explanation please... sm
Why post something like that without something to back it up. An honest company will change from the standard 65 character line with spaces to a 54 or 55 character line if they don't pay for spaces. A lot has to do with what the client wants to see in writing - even though the same thing, for some reason it's more appealing to them to see the VBC than paying for spaces - weird I know.
Please fill me in on why you say run. I have been with them since August and pleasantly pleased over the large nationals I was with before.
further explanation
Sorry, that was a bit short and to the point on my last message. Just to explain further, this is not Vonage but it is VoIP. I didn't want to go into much detail because I didn't want to sound like I was trying to sell this to anyone. I already have my 3 referals so my service is free - that isn't it. I'm using it right now and it is working great. There is a little hesitation every once in a while but if I calculate the money I save by the tiny amount of less work I do because of the periodic hesitation, it is worth it - especially if someone is looking at a $600 phone bill like the person below - OMG! It won't work if the Internet is down but neither will my typing because that is all through the Internet, so no big deal for me. I would rather pay nothing than $24.95, $39.95, or $600. In the next couple of years none of us will have a choice anyway, it will all be digital, no more land lines as we know it today.
Thanks for the explanation.
:)
An explanation...
You must average a gross pay of $900 per pay period over three pay periods (they average your pay for three PP and you have to have grossed and average of $900 per PP). You are paid twice per month, so the pay period is a little longer than with bi-weekly pay.
You are paid a rate per line that is determined by your experience and other factors (not everyone makes the same line rate, but close). Their time-reporting site makes it easy to see if you are on track by showing you how much you have made so far that pay period, or even that day. It's not hard to meet the $900 average per pay period. Just divide $900 by your line rate, which will give you the number of lines needed for that PP. Hope this helps explain it a little better.
Did they give you an explanation?
nm
Shapin.....no need for explanation!!

uh, seriously...it's not explanation point
you're the one screaming with it. Do you see the irony?
TT giving MT's no explanation on why all this
This is certainly a mystery to me. Announcement of Jesse being gone was heartbreaking. He was such a good tech guy, but these loss of working hours due to server problems we are having is not due to anything but Dictaphone, it appears. The **check back every 10 minutes** is getting old.
It seems that chunks of work disappear when these problems occur, so don't know where the work goes when server goes down. Hopefully, TT is not outsourcing to another service again, as we have been SO LOW on work for the past month or so.
I just wish the upper mgmt. would give us an explanation for all these server problems as of late so that we would not wonder about why this is happening. Maybe some of you can explain to us. Maybe I am just out of the loop.
Thanks for the explanation! I guess my cat
at least this is a plausible explanation.
Personally I believe they'd sell before they'd offshore any work. But whatever the problem is, I too am being drawn into the worry bordering on hysteria. With the economy as it is, there is a lot of desperate behaviors and decisions going on. I used to have so much work I felt sometimes like I dared not take any time off. Now even on what were my heaviest workload days, a trickle.
CPL Explanation - Attempt at Least :)
The returning visits are not a lot of copy and pasting - it's one global time (and my folks love it because they get to work in Word and use their tools, they're not stuck typing into a system where their Expanders and dictionaries are useless) - you get paid for work previously done, which you do not have to change, edit, or even read, in addition to the portion you add. All in all the MT comes out ahead.
If anybody is seriously interested in how it works, I can put you in touch with MTs (some of whom have 20 plus years of experience) who can tell you MT to MT how they are most certainly not getting ripped off.
Just drop me a private note.
If you'd rather work for a company that promises work and doesn't have it, or has the work and doesn't pay, then don't bother sending me your resume.
Because we do have the work - and we do pay.

I'm sure there's a logical explanation
Like it was all dictated overnight in the wee hours when none of us lazy Americans wanted to work, so, alas, the poor beset upon transcriptionists in India were forced to do it.
See the explanation on the main board.
If you read my post, the explanation is all there!
nm
There is no explanation for this "confidential" policy. nm
No, you wouldn't be able to explain it because there is no good explanation for this policy. I could tell people I don't know what the company pays everyone but I make $. Is that better? I am giving just MY infor, making no promises about what the company pays.
At Will Employment - No Explanation Needed
If you look at the paperwork you signed, you will probably see that it is At-Will Employment. That means they can fire you without giving you any reason and you can quit without giving any reason -- at any time. As long as they have not sent you equipment (which if they did, you will probably have to pay to have sent back), just tell them Thanks, but No Thanks!!
better explanation than that. Makes no sense ....... nm
.
I'll email you..but brief explanation below
When I say toggle over, I mean Alt-Tab like you use to toggle to a different program w/o the mouse. I have my Excel spreadsheet open while I transcribe in another program. So when I need to enter my job information, I Alt-Tab over to the worksheet and enter in the info, then Alt-Tab back to the word processor and keep going. Should work for any Windows-based program.
As far as the formula, let me see if I can dig up the tutorial link that I used to figure the formula...
Ok, here's the page:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel/HP011277801033.aspx
I also used the Excel tutorials on About.com to get fiddly with Excel. I now know only enough to be dangerous.
Emailing you.
Amen explanation point

Move on and do it rapidly. That explanation doesn't
even sound like it holds water.
A quick word of explanation about Wal-Mart
My friend worked in the division that made, organized jewelry, etc. She was not a clerk. She worked behind the scenes. I guess the suits thought that behind the scenes in Mexico was cheaper for them than to pay American workers. Anyway, my friend, a 21-years-old single mother, is now without work.
OH - I thought part transcription, part escription, but don't know for sure
nm
They no longer hire part-time and may be eliminating part-time employees within the next 6 months.
They are going to have those that are PT go FT if possible. Some accounts require 1 weekend day, but not all. Most transcriptionists have 1 account with 1 back-up account. I know that they are hiring for hospital accounts in medical records and radiology right now.
No PTO for part-time. Not sure if you can work part-time or not since recent rule change. sm
You do pay a deposit for their equipment.
There is a part-time and a flexible part-time, just left there and they offered
me both. Flexible, however, is more or less when they need you (I.e. weekends), part-time is fixed hours.
Yes I know they hire part time because I referred someone there for part time.
They are internet based.
From what I understand, the part-time positions will be only be for those that are already part-time
It is not a restructuring of the company, just of some of the existing part-time positions.
I know that there are a few employees who have been with Keystrokes for many, many years who are part-time and they will not displaced.
Other than that, there have been many discussions why there will not be any new part-time employees hired, and I really don't think they will back down on that.
Okay, I get that part but... sm
aren't our IP addresses available only to the board administrators?
Or was the OP trying to say that the board administrators have a vested interest in this particular company... and keeping this particular company's name clean??? (If that's the case, I won't act surprised when my post is deleted... but I'm new here and I honestly have no idea who has loyalty to a particular MTSO, or not...)
This is part of the UAW
I am not sure this is a good bet for MTs. There are some benefits but I do not see that you get the full tilt of auto worker benefits .. not by a long shot. Keep in mind too that many employers of MTs .. most particularly hospitals go bonkers over the mere whisper of the word union. The other thought that strikes me is that the auto workers are in more dire straits than we are .. so how good is this union thing after all?
well, part of their ad says they pay
9-11 cpl, so some MTs ARE getting the 11 cpl and it has to be for a good reason (i.e., high producer, dependable, versatile, longevity, etc.).
it's probably this part of it...sm
necessary decision in order for them to move forward and achieve their new goals for 2008
What the hey? What do you mean I was a part of it? sm
It's not much of a secret where I work now (TransTech).
this part got me....
For those who have had a bad experience, I suggest giving it another try.
Aiya!!
For the most part
I used to work for them. Communication was kind of lacking, but I have seen worse. The work was relatively easy, and the pay was average, and I always got paid on time
Looking for part-time
I am looking for a part-time or IC (part-time hours) transcription position with flexible hours. If anyone can direct me to specific companies who may consider this, I would really appreciate your help.
looking for part time
Webmedx used to hire part time and they are looking for people. Also look up Amphion on the web. they are in Wisconsin. They have hired part time in the past, may still be looking - nice people, steady company.
See, that's part of the problem.
I'm not saying "all negative posts are bad." The ones giving specific details can be VERY helpful.
It's just that usually no one comes here just to say "I love Company Name" (or if they do they get flamed). OTOH, people do come here to post "I HATE COMPANY NAME" - sometimes giving reasons and sometimes not.
In addition, when opinions are requested on a particular company, the negative posts saying "It sux. NoMessage" outweigh any positive posts 3:1 - and again, positive posts are frequently flamed.
Bottom line - I think the overall viewpoint here is slightly skewed towards the negative.
Not crazy on their part
money, money, money. What I think is crazy is MTs putting up with it. Life is too short to sit at the keyboard 24/7 trying to get enough work to pay the light bill.
Yes it is crazy on their part
What happens when you put a bunch of people on an account they don't know and could care less about and can't make money on? The account is soon lost. Seems to me the company is cutting its own throat doing business this way. Any bonuses the managers make better be wisely invested for when they are out on their butts because there aren't any accounts left.
Now that part about ESL is very true. However, I
have never worked for a company that did not have a lot of ESL. It is just part of the job. Honestly now, for MTs that cannot learn them, then they should not be in this business. More and more of our physicians are ESL and we must learn to deal with it. As far as the emails for today, I have received 3 thus far. None were remotely rude or anything. As far as grammar/spell check in the emails, that does not bother me. As long as they get their point across, it is fine. They are just quick notes, just like anyone would write at an office and honestly, I would hate to know someone had to read my handwriting.
Oh sure, I'm the CEO and I own a bank, and part of the
London Bridge, and all that good stuff. SHEESH! You all ask for some good things about the company, but through your crystal ball you see the future. I still say, go ahead and leave...you'll find out soon enough that all is not well with other companies. I know - I've BTDT. EVERY company has editing positions now - it's the next phase of transcription, but never ever will ALL transcription be done by this method. I will continue to transcribe with a POSITIVE attitude, while you and your "Current Transcender" buddy leave and live with a NEGATIVE attitude. Good luck to you!
What part of the above message did you
x
Anyone taken the transcription part of NTS
National Transcription Services test? This is one of those mttest.com things so probably isn't representative of their dictation, but good grief.
The worst part is...
I've been there a long time, took their crap, worked extra when asked, always had quality above 98.5, always made my line count, worked the last 2 months straight because they were behind, now there is hardly any work, worked all the major holidays for the last 2 years and this is how they repay that kind of loyalty. It makes me sad and I feel like a fool for being used for so long. All I want to do is type and do a good job. It won't be rewarded there unfortunately. I'm worried about going from the frying pan to the fire but it can't get worse than the above can it?
can any part-timers tell me...
If you have requested time off without pay in the past and if it was at all a problem?
Part time
Another point is when the hospitals outsource and MTs lose their jobs, this is another area where the MT loses! When we were outsourced a year ago, the hospital tried to really pat themselves on the back and, instead of just being honest and saying it was all about money, they tried to say they made their outsourcing choice based on how important it was that we get comparable benefits to what we had. Yeah right! In this area any part-time hospital employee gets PTO and even more importantly they are able to participate in insurance at a higher rate, but still a great deal compared to buying it privately. I always felt the benefits were the trade off for the so, so salary with the 3% cap on raises over the years.
Yes. I'm part-time, and I was able to
pick my shift. No nights or weekends unless requested, no C-phone, very rare downtime. Most importantly, the staff is available for questions, but otherwise leaves you alone to work. I have no ESLs in the account I'm on. No place is perfect, but they're definitely worth considering.
