Everything you say is true along with some other comments on this thread about having to work for it. I have been an MT for 22 years. I average about 35,000 a year. I do work full-time, but have a TV in my office to keep boredom at bay. I turned it off 2 weeks ago. The economy stinks, and thinks are getting tougher, so I figured I better start trying to make more money. It is amazing what you can do when you really apply yourself. I went from 1200-1300 lines a day to 1800. That will make a huge difference in my paycheck. It can be done if you work at it.

Newsflash QA and quality
Yesterday the local news was interviewing EXPERIENCED nurses who had been fired by the local hospitals to make room for new graduate nurses at lesser wages. They were carrying signs that said things like patient care counts. One interviewed nurse said she had nothing against new nurses but they need to spend time under the supervision of experienced nurses before being turned loose on their own. . If this is what they think of hands-on medical care personnel, why would you think they care about the quality of a medical record? MTSOs don't care, they hire Q.A. to make the hospital think they care and the hospital requires it to make the MTSO think they care. The only one who may care about quality is the idgit overseeing transcription who fancies herself to be more important than she is.
There is no such thing as professional medical transcriptioninsts anymore, we are medical typists, or to quote a well-known MTSO, typing monkeys. Can't blame them for not caring about quality when they have to fight for work 24/7 in the hopes they can feed their families and pay their bills.

They told me stop working right away. I asked if I could be given a higher rate and if not, then I would like to find a typing job. I offered 2 weeks notice and they said seeya and what's more annoying is that she doesn't believe it is because of VR. She thinks it is because I wanted to work on a different account.

Its the *U.S.* that is not so scrupulous. Or do you think the farming out of our jobs to people making pennies a day is scrupulous? Yes, the governments of Korea, China, et AL are taking advantage of their own people but don't think for a second that the US is not CAPITALIZING on the situation.

There is nothing 'petty' about these posts. And they aren't BS either. And you are prime example of MTSOs that don't, or won't, get it...
I used to be an MTSO so I'm well aware of both sides of the equation. The complaints here are legitimate - and the lurking MTSOs out there reading 'our' board would be wise to reflect on the message.
If you think for a New York second it's easy to be on our side of the street, think again. There is NO reason why these complaints should not be aired. IF they don't pertain to you, why are you so upset?

I am not paranoid because I already do VR at another place. I thought the reason for the question was trying to figure out by having so many or so little as to how VR would work. Well, gotta go as time for me to start work.

In all the professions I have been in, I cannot believe how rude, condescending, and judgmental MTs are. These boards are for helping each other to make wise career choices and sharing our input, not to go around being the spelling and grammar police and making people feel like they don't know what they are doing. I am well respected in my job, have 100% QA ratings and don't belittle other people who make their errors here. I think posters here need to spend less time being rude and more time thinking of how we can all help fellow MTs looking for advice.

You can believe those on this board saying NO WORK at Transtech ! Absolutely true !!
Getting worse and worse every day. They are going to VR at a VERY FAST PACE, which pays so little you cannot survive on the money UNLESS you work 60 hours a week OR are one of the supe's fav's that get the better dictators.
There is always an excuse by TT as to the low work, but remember that doesn't pay our creditors. Work disappears in large chunks when were at getting almost out of TAT (if ever) so it is going somewhere.
TT is turning out to be like every other MT company out there - more and more executives/supervisors to pay and not a single penny raise for the MT -- much less provide work for the MT's on a consistent basis -- not near consistent basis.

07/28/09 for new MTs, FT & PT, all shifts. Are they saying the accounts are UNDERSTAFFED?
Naturally, the new hirees will be gooing and gushing all over this board again about how GREAT their accounts are and how EASY their dictators are.
I JUST WONDER WHAT THIS LATEST, YET ANOTHER HIRING BLITZ IS GOING TO LEAD TO IN ANOTHER FEW WEEKS. Anyone care to predict?  .

I am fairly sure all their accounts still have in-house transcription departments. All mine do. The Atlanta account you mentioned started the same time as my main and always has more work than my hospital, which is an account that has almost completely dried up over the last year. STM states they are saving work for their in-house MTs.
Wow. This board continues to stun me. I don't even work there and feel bad for the owner. sm
I have a few friends who work for Keystrokes and have had the owner do a lot for them. They make good money and she has helped one of them out of a bind more than once. Should my hospital ever outsource, I would go running to Keystrokes.
Why is it ok to attack a person on here? Why must everyone be nasty so often?
It seems that every company has people like you that come on and go on and on. Why? Don't you have anything better to do?
I would hope that there is a way for companies to be warned about so many of the trolls on these boards. I'm sure they talk among each other and know who you all are. At least I hope they do. As a hospital supervisor, I would hate to have you work under me.

In response to the posts about Christmas, I remember the good old days when the Jewish radiologist I worked for took the whole staff out for a big Christmas dinner and gave us all generous bonuses. We in turn gave him and his wife Hanukkah gifts. It's called mutual respect and being big enough to accept and respect each others' differences without taking away anyone's right to celebrate according to their own beliefs.

I was just on the La. board looking for La. MTs.
I never see any postings from MTs of Louisiana and when I asked a question concerning LA MTs I would never get an answer. What part of Louisiana are you located. Do you work as an IC or employee or for a hospital? I have been trying to get an estimate on what Louisiana MTs are paid as I think the amount that I was told by the hospital was too low.

Then that is Terry and they are out of St. Louis MO. I currently work for them. Good company to work for. Terry is very enthusiastic about MT. I enjoy the accounts, very low ESL if that is a selling point for you. We also have always had plenty of work and if ever I've run out I just let Terry know and she hooks me up with another account to fill my time.

MQ has their own board because they are the
BIGGEST MTSO. Spheris will not allow employees to post anywhere anytime anything about them. Spheris joined up with Indian forces long, long ago in a HUGE volume. I have even read articles from Indian papers and Spheris, with Spheris wanting to reduce its US workload by half at least in order to use Indian labor. I have heard Spheris pay per line is very low. Not putting MQ up on a pedestal. I have worked for both, and Spheris is evil #1, though they keep a very low secretive profile.
