even a lowly transcriptionist's time. Working at home does not make it less so - in fact I'm finding the opposite is true in my case, since I have to work so many more hours to make 1/2 the pay I made as an inhouse MT.
The very least a recruiter (or anyone else, for that matter!) can do is show a little respect and if unable to keep an apointment, at least let the prospective employee know, don't just leave them hanging. If a company doesn't treat employees with respect, how do they expect the same in return from their MTs? Totally does NOT make sense.

Well, yes, it does. Here is the news flash ...
I had my dates wrong but yes, MQ purchased Lanier.

Another News Flash!
When you have to call to beg for a job, then maybe you'd be doing a lot of calling begging for work to come in once you land that job. First impressions are very lasting...................
Here's a news flash for ya.
The thread started out about TTD. However, I received a so-called offer from TTD a few months back at a subcontractor rate as well. You can talk about one and still be talking about the other. Same scum, only one letter difference.
News flash!! Keystrokes is not perfect (sm)
And neither are you, nor any of us! Some companies, not just MTSOs, keep their promised callback times and turn out to be horrible employers.
To the original poster, give them a call and see if are being duped.
Here's a news flash for you... many people make MORE money editing....sm
in the same # of hours in a day than they do straight transcribing. I know because I and others with the company I work for do. When I was straight transcribing I averaged making $12 an hour. Now that I'm editing about 90% of the time I'm averaging making $13.50 an hour. Now THAT pays the bills faster, and I'm still working the same # of hours a week!
Just because someone posts that VR is the wave of the future doesn't mean they're in management - they're just being realistic about what is happening in this industry (just as they referred to the copier and PCs).
Of course if you think it's really going to hurt you to do VR then perhaps you should go back to an IBM typewriter and get your own accounts. After all - using a PC and expanders is helping you get paid for work you're not actually transcribing (yup, think about those expanders - I bet you're not fussing over getting paid to have those kick in instead of having to type out those words, or consider the header information that blows in for you from an ADT feed that you're not having to manually type).
No news is good news for me. I check my audited reports all the time
If I need to talk with one of them, I call or IM them. But, no, I have learned that if I am doing a good job, they leave you alone to do your work. They are not in any way a company that micromanages as long as you do what you are supposed to. If you give them a reason to think you are not doing what you are supposed to be doing, they will keep an eye out on your work, etc.
"Taking up valuable time of MTSO." You're digging deep now!
x
That is what I just said. !0 days PTO, period. That includes vacation, sick days and personal days
They should have paid holidays so that you are paid if you take off. Also should inculde extra hours for sick days and personal days.
That annual raise of .002 is kind of a joke especially when at the same time they upped the minimum line requirement from 10,000 lines to 12,000 lines.
OSi just does not have the qualified people in management positions that I wish to work for.
I am glad that you are happy at OSi and all is working out for you. Their dishonesty and the way they treat people just does not work for me.
Of course they can get by cheaply by hiring unqualified people so that is very good for the owners.
I thought no news is good news, too. Then got email about

More valuable
More valuable to them but they don't probably don't pay you any more than if you just did ops, therefore, not as much income for you, but they get the work covered. Transcription is going down the tubes fast - a normal thinking person would want you to do what you would be most productive at, for employee retention purposes and for their income also. I refuse to do everything because I lose money and if they don't want to give me the work type I am best at, then I don't accept a position with that company.
Don't know if valuable, but they have been
discussed several times the last couple of weeks. Do a Ctl F search.
are ALL valuable
To whom?
Because someone who is one-specialty oriented, types 60 wpm is not as valuable (speaking in employee terms) as someone who can do whatever you throw at them and do it in half the time.
I feel every HUMAN is valuable but not every human can or should be an MT.
Is it okay to not receive any mail from the office for a few days at a time? (sm)
Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Had been getting memos quite frequently and now nothing since last week. Didn't want to call the office and look like a boob, so thought I would check here first. TIA.
Actually, the policy lapse time is approximately 63 days.
I've never seen it 45 days but maybe that is what several companies are changing to.. I hope not. With the 63 day lapse between policies, it helps because it gives you a chance to get your own individual policy for a month or so because or in the interim when you get another job and wait for that new policy to kick in.
Is no one going to mention that we got paid two days early this time?
'Cause we did :)
Yes! I have plenty of work 99% of the time with the exception of a very few days sm
when it was slow everywhere but nothing that has ever affected my check drastically. I have been there for 6 years.
valuable (irreplaceable)
I've been an MT only 9 years. On my full-time job, I do more work types (and very well according to my evals) than 4 people who have been working for the same hospital as I have been ranging from 22 to 25 years in seniority (I am the baby of the group)--2 because they were allowed to cherrypick what they wanted to do for a long time ago. However, these 2 can fly through OP, ER, and Ortho and I cannot. Do I believe they can be replaced? Hell, yeah--but so can I. Because we are unionized, we all make $23/h (with another raise coming in June) plus incentive and have all the same great benes. Of course it used to tick me off that so and so are praised for what they do (because they are valuable in those areas), but because I CHOSE to stay where I am, forever comparing my pay to others is, unfortunately, not going to make things better especially in times like this. Besides, I personally prefer to do work types I am most productive in anyway so I can hit my incentive quicker (fair is fair right?).
So what if employers EXPECT this-and-that from you--that's a given. But, they KNOW they will not get 100% every shift, from every MT, every single time. There is NO perfect MT. None, whatsoever. I don't care how many years of experience you have. I've seen it many times even before I became an MT myself. I am an IC for my second job, which pays 11 cpl including all headers/spaces (and it's an acutal IC position-no schedule, no minimum at all).
For a long time, I have not complained about so and so making as much as I am--it's a kill fight (even for a lot of jobs). I am a single mom, but I have good jobs, I can pay my bills, and I can feed my family (and I live in one of the most high-cost-of-living states).
To finally sum it up, ALL hardworking MTs feel they deserve more than what they are being paid AND they should. Unfortunately, many MTs (including me) do not see it happening, Hence, they either move on to another field of work, make due what they have because they love the MT field and its benefits (or lack of), or, for some reason, find a reason/excuse NOT to move on and just compare and complain (go figure).
As far as an MT being valuable (irreplaceable), I've seen very productive, hardworking MTs with a lot of experience move on to other things and being replaced with other MTs with less experience but do just as well. I've seen really good employee MTs being replaced by vendor MTs because of offshoring/outsourcing. In your last paragraph, you have valuable (irreplaceable). As any job, valuable can be replaced (especially in this field) and that is a fact of life as well.
Merry X-Mas and HNY.
Thanks for the valuable feedback.
The day I decided to give up and move on (exactly 2 weeks after I applied), I got a call from Debbie who was very apologetic. Because of all the positive things I've heard about TT, I gratefully accepted the offer.
Time for a registered letter to them with a copy of your invoice for payment within 10 days or

always slow this time of year...doctors take extra days off, et cetera.
it will pick back up again soon...
I guess no news is good news! :-)
Thanks anyway!
If no news is good news why is a person
.
I agree - no news is good news - sm
They are busy making sure you have work and want you to stay productive and busy. What is there to talk about? I personally like being left alone to do my work. As long as you get a check and the work keeps flowing, just do your thing!
Is this news should have been labeled NEWS ALERT ...
This is breathtaking information and everyone who works at TT or is considering has the right to know. It will be buried with a title like is this news? It seems as if you are responding to the first poster's complaint of no work.
All of you should stop working immediately so that they can see how valuable
you are. Let them work it out then.
If you're a hard worker and a valuable MT, then yes it is
I have been there for 4 years and if I have ever had a problem (which is very rare), it has always been fixed RIGHT away.
After 90 days full time, you are eligible for health insurance, 401k, Aflac, sm
and life insurance. One year for PTO. Direct deposit right away.
I am happy at Keystrokes, and happy with the benefits. The insurance is a little high, but my husband has a union job and it would cost us more to have him carry all of us.
The HappyKeystrokes poster seems to give a lot of misinformation. I have as much work as I can handle, but I do not type 350 lph or whatever amount she/he claims. I average 200 lph, up a little some days, down a little other days, but that depends on the doctors dictating, my motivation for the day, etc. Spring is the worst as I have hayfever and headphones bother my ears right now.
My check is right, is on time and is direct deposited. My taxes withheld are correct and SS has been paid (unlike somewhere else I worked that messed up my SS and did take out for state taxes). My lead is supportive and I think the company cares about their employees. I am happy with Keystrokes and cringe when I see posts like Happy Keystroker writes, which make us all look like Stepford Wives. This is a job, just with a company that I like working for.
I wanted to paint a more realistic picture.
Beats me. It does hurt their valuable employees when they log on to 0 jobs.
I have 4 accounts, a 98.9 quality rating, and I am sure it is hard to plan workflow, but I'm tired of it. It seems cyclic; it has happened a few times a year for the past 3 years. Hopefully, when the new accts start, this will stop. Guess I'll just ask for a 5th account.
Sometimes.....NO news is Good news. sm
Maybe you are doing just fine and everything is correct. Maybe they do no feel you need feedback because your quality is excellent!!
Good thought for the day :-) !!
good news and bad news ----
Good - plenty of work, just landed a new acct.
Bad - Check posts from a few weeks back. Out of the blue, everyone got a huge pay cut.
You bill 30 days behind, and they snail mail it so it's late - about 40 days from invoice
No way jose - they even messed up their direct deposit payments
Maybe she/he works 14 hour days/7 days a week? nm
x
Would that be 5 business days or 5 regular days?
So when are we going to be paid this time around since you're so knowledgable?
Sorry, but for some of us a day or 2 actually makes a difference.
Most want 20 hours over 5 days, but it could be more, or it could be spread over 4 days. nm
s
Correction - TH has 5 PTO days 1st year/10 days 2nd yr

Axolotl within 30 days. Transolutions in 60 days. NM

It is true. Any job has its good days and bad days.
Perhaps you'd like to just keep your old job and try this one out. Just because a poster here is crabbing about it, or even if as in the past there have been negative posts, odds are that there are very happy people who don't even post or know that this board exists. As Alice says. Everything is relative. The fact that this company is hiring and pays may be a place which is a blessing. As opposed to digging ditches on day labor for example. Or somebody might prefer digging ditches. This is just an example. Sometimes we who are employable, even though we don't make as much as we used to in this business, or as much as we would like to, we still if working at home do not pay for gas to go to work, career clothes, deal with office politics, have to look at a boss who writes us up if we are a minute late, etcetera. I don't make half as much as I used to, but I don't send my 3 children to day care which by the way saves us money. SO I remind my husband I am worth that in addition to my salary if I had a job outside. No job is perfect. I am not even sure if Focus is any good or not, I have not worked there. But if one poster says there are good days and bad, I say that is the most honest answer you are going to get anywhere, and if you need a job badly, how is it to hurt trying it out, until you know for sure for yourself? THanks for listening. But sometimes this board gets to be a bit much with the agendas of people railing on other people like the OP here who just wanted all opinions instead of just one side. Balance is always great. And, if things seem lop-sided, then it is a good thing to seek out both sides. IMHO.
I think they would. Those are good days for 10-hour days. sm
I have a set schedule but it is Tues-Sat and it works well for me. It wouldn't hurt to ask!
90 days is correct. 3 days off 1st year, 10 during 2nd.
nm
Were the 2 days weekend days? sm
They expect everyone to work a weekend day. Their definition of team player is to actually work 6 or 7 days a week. One might consider it if the pay was there & she gave out some decent work. It is the ideal place to work if you are a workaholic with no life.
11 days is more than you would get inhouse...usually 10 days.
We have the convenience of working at home and yet you want MORE than what inhouse positions offer?
Ask if those are calendar days or biz days too nm

That's news to me???
Have been an employee for many, many years and have never been reimbursed for any long distance charges.
here's news.
Well, Transtech now has Tracy B from MQ and then down the crapper to Heartland at the helm as their new CEO. How long do you think that will be a good place to work???? About 30 seconds!
But it's such old news
The same two arguments keep coming up again and again...that e-mail and the opinions about the QA director. The QA director seems to stir up ire. I don't know. I haven't had to deal with her. I just know that neither of those points are hindering my job as an MT at OSi. I'm making more than I ever have and am furthering my career. I might possibly think twice about ever applying for a QA position with them, but I know that right now I'm really happy with OSi, with the people I deal with, with the amount of money I'm making with them, with my benefits, etc.
Now for the bad news...
I had an offer from them, and while thinking about it (actually debating say with MQ or go with them - their pay, PTO, benefits, healthcare company - EVERYTHING is exactly the same except for $300 equipment deposit) a computer appeared on my doorstep, the trainer called me, tech support ... all of this happened, yet, they did not even have a formal offer acceptance! It's been over 2 weeks now and the computer is still here ... are we starting to see a pattern here? Sound MQ-esq????
Run away before you do ... bad news.

Boy news to me
Like I said I could be wrong, never heard of it before. Then tell this poster where you got it and what it cost you and help her out. What company do you work for?
Bad news sm
I worked there. The manager is extremely nice in the beginning and then is really mean and rude after you've been there awhile. I would never consider working for her again even if she paid .15 a line. It's just not worth it to me.
Feel free to do a search on this board. I thought maybe things had gotten better, but there are others who had the same experience with them.
Good luck!
bad news
Run Forrest Run....
