My suggestion would be to apply to companies that don't regularly advertise for MT's. Try local MTSOs. They seem to pay better and treat their MT's better. Or, contact hospitals in your area. Sometimes they have MT's who are homebased.
My experience has been that national MTSO's promise a lot of things that they can't deliver, like having plenty of work, etc. They all seem pretty much the same, in my opinion.
Good luck to you!

My suggestion sm
Since you are not having any problems expressing yourself with management and don't feel it is an issue, discuss it with management. Ask them if it is appropriate for you to work your schedule around your lifestyle if it differs from the one you have already committed to. Ask them if it will cause a problem for production or account management if you don't show up to work when they expected you to, even if the volume is high, because then some of the work you say came in the morning and didn't get done until the afternoon might possibly have gone out of TAT. That is exactly what management is trying to avoid and that is exactly what management was talking about when they sent out the company-wide email discussing this very issue you say that you can get away with. Why is it that you can get away with it, but others are sent emails specifically instructed not to do this if it isn't a problem?
I didn't post to cause an argument. I just posted to begin with because there is obviously a discrepancy with what some can do and what others can't, and what may be a wonderful experience for others within the company doesn't always ring true with everyone and should not be dismissed or eluded to as simply not true. If the sun is shining outside your front window, it doesn't mean it's shining outside mine. But just because it's raining, it doesn't mean I'm going to pack up and move either. I'm going to wait for the rain to stop and in the meantime hopefully be allowed to speak about it raining without others saying it's not true.
My suggestion:
I was feeling the same way...so, I did what I felt I needed to do. I talked to someone in the management position about all the things I have read on here. I WA sick of all endless chatter about how awful OSi is. I feel that I did the right thing, as I no longer have that "sick" feeling. I have been reassured and I know that my job will be here for as long as I wish to work at OSi. Another suggestion I can give is to stay away from MTStars. It is nothing but a bunch of lies and gossip. These people thrive on making others miserable and lying about other companies just to make them look bad. More than likely, the ones downing OSi have had past employment and were unable to make it and now are holding a grudge. You know who I mean, the petty ones...and you all know who you are. I don't know about the rest of you, but I passed third grade a long time ago, why do I feel like I am right back there when I read this board?
So, if I haven't quieted your fears, talk to someone in authority at OSi. If you don't like what you hear, then you can move on to wherever you feel you need to go. Hopefully it won't be MTStars.
My suggestion would be, if you don't fit the sm
hiring criteria for a company but would really like to work for it, ask to take the test anyway, and ask for feedback on the results. If you did well on the test, maybe the company would waive the criteria. However, as you know, it is really better to have the experience before tackling this kind of work at home all alone. Good luck to you!
Did you try the other suggestion and go through

Suggestion
I would suggest getting another job. That's what I did. Here's the interesting thing. Both companies use the same platform, and same line count, yet at OSi I was getting a major cut in the count. Now I'm actually getting paid for what I type and have plenty of work. I was skeptical before I left but appears to be a wise decision.
Thanks for the suggestion. No, (sm)

download ExpressScribe, which I believe has a free version, and try to locate a cheaper USB footpedal from E-bay or some such thing. to test, this should be all you need, plus your skills, of course. good luck.
Suggestion
Instead of bellyaching on a public anonymous board about all your company complaints why not address them to the people who pay you to work, then you might get some action for your gripes.
And... if you are bellyaching on company time when you should be doing your job, shame on you.
suggestion
Thank you for the suggestion. I will definitely apply and I really appreciate the information. I hope my previous posts did not sound like complaints, they were not meant as complaints. Today is the first day I have posted on this site.
My only suggestion would be
that you insist on a back up account from day 1. While I like working for Keystrokes, I am disappointed at the same time. When I was hired, I was told there would be plenty of work. We run out of work almost daily on the account I am on and I have asked repeatedly for a back up account and so far have not been accommodated.
As for pay, I don't know of any accounts paid double for more than a 2 min dictation. They do usually pay a premium rate for certain types of reports, but I think it can vary from account to account.
suggestion?
Are you suggesting that the poster start a new thread asking what sort of time off others receive with their companies? I don't see how we could possibly know what other co's offer without pursuing other opportunities otherwise.
Here's a suggestion
Talk to OSi first - see if they are willing to see you side and compensate you. Be nice. :) Then if they say, no, you will leave knowing you tried to work it out. If they say yes, you can wait for a calmer moment to decide about leaving...
I worked for them once - left over payroll issues as well.
Suggestion
This has been posted here many times before. Look up and you will see the 'Google' search bar. Make sure the little dot is right next to 'MT Stars'. Type in 'weekly pay' or 'pay weekly' or 'weekly' and you will find your answer.
I have a suggestion
I went through Meditec for my MT training. During that time, they had some kind of medical program put up on their webpage from an outside company that offered three levels of care. The cost was reasonable. The levels had different deductibles. Go to Meditec.com and look in the column on the left side and click on Health and wellness, then scroll down to the bottom of the page for this information. You can click on more information from there for more details of it. I did not use it because I was covered under my husband's plan, but recall thinking it might be a good option if I needed it. Good luck to you and God Bless.
Suggestion
I'm not here to bash or flame, but hope these suggestions will be helpful to you.
For future reference, it might help a lot to just change your resume to state whether your acute care experience was at a facility or for an online MTSO. Then state what worktypes and specialties that you did the most often. It is helpful to be as specific as possible. It also helps to list your favorite and no so favorite specialties. For instance, you might have worked all specialties, but don't exactly care for cardiology, while you just LOVE orthopedics and EKG reports. Then, if the recruiter still asks, I would be concerned that he/she did not understand your resume.
I made these changes to my resume and found it very helpful. I do still get questions and I go ahead and answer them. I have to admit, though, that since I have my state of residence clearly written at the top of my resume alongside my name, when one recruiter claimed that I had not provided my state of residence, stating in a rather unfriendly manner that she needed this information before she could do business with me, I ceased all communication with her.
Thanks for the suggestion ... sm
This is actually something I was thinking about just today. I think I may approach my TM about it on Monday. =)
Just a suggestion
I think the way you were talked to by one of the people on here sounds like she has a problem with bullying. Her problem, not yours. What solved my no work problem was to get two jobs. I work for two companies, one a large national and the other a small mom and pop (yep, they do exist) and when one does not have work, the other most likely does. As to what company to apply to, I would say to read through the adverts, find something that meets your particular likes and needs, and give it a whirl. You might have to adjust hours and fine-tune it a bit, but it is doable. I support my family and have found that having two jobs is the only answer in this economy. In any event, I wish you the very best of luck. Don't let the economy (or the bullies) get you down.
Another suggestion
Use all the tools at your disposable, especially the personal normals others have added. When you get that ESL you find impossible to understand, check and see if someone has a normal for it. Drop it into your report and then edit as you listen to the dictator and change whatever. That's an excellent way to get a handle on these ESLs.
Suggestion
Call Transtech in Houston. Ask to speak to Debbie Hood and explain your situation. Worst case, your name and number will be given to her and she will call you back. If you are really good, you will get a job. They may ask you to test or fill out an application on line or maybe ask you to email your resume but at least call them and get your name and phone number in the pot. You will not be ignored. It may take a few days but don't give up hope please.
Thanks for your suggestion!!

I am looking for a PT IC position. Anyone have a suggestion?
I'd like to work around 20 hours a week on an IC job that pays decent, has easy platform etc.. Anyone help know of such a company that offers this?
I have a suggestion for MT companies looking for MTs
Please try and put some facts regarding employment status on your website. I just spent a lot of time testing for 3 different companies, who neglected to indicate that they hire only ICs. I need employee status and only found out after I had passed the testing and was contacted by either an email attachment or phone call. Looking for another job in this business is very time consuming. The testing can take more than a few hours, all total and then to find out that they only hire ICs is a bit annoying.
I have a great onc suggestion
I worked for a company called Golden Isles for awhile. I have to say that they were one of the best on the net in many ways.
Management is fantastic, training and feedback is great, pay is fair, but there were no benefits in place when I worked for them. This could be different now, and if you are interested in PTE, it may not be of concern to you. They also have one of the lower minimum mandatory counts for PTE that I've found on the net.
I really kind of blew it leaving there, but hey, that happens. All in all, I think they are fantastic and a great choice if you are onc inclined. :)
Thank you..very good suggestion. :) NM

Suggestion before going "national"
Have you discussed with your employer about piloting a home-based program for your department?
I began my career in a small-town hospital setting. Then, moved to another state and worked home-based for national companies for a few years until my children were older. After moving back to a small town, returned to in-house hospital employee. Within a short period of time I discussed with my HIM director about piloting a home-based program, which was successful -- almost 10 years now. One of our coders is now home-based, and the others will be going home soon.
Hospital bennies are GREAT -- excellent retirement plan; PTO accumulates according to how many hours worked in a 2-week period and length of service.
There are advantages and disadvantages to any job, but I enjoy the flexibility of home-based, no dress code and reduced auto expense, except for required in-house meetings.
Cherry-picking, supv pets, select MTs being praised for quantity rather than quality still going on every day whether in-house or at home, but I try not to let that influence my day.
May God bless you with your decision-making.
Heres a suggestion,,,,,
Maybe save all of your unanswered emails in a folder. Then, when you get swamped with emails, resend the batch of unanswered ones and ask for a reply. At least you know they are there at that time.
Ok, here is my final suggestion
would someone please apply and then post here what they REALLY meant. For 16 or 18 cpl, I could QUICKLY become a RAD MT with or without experience (everything is relative, you know). And if they upped it to 20 cpl, i would even take my C-phone and internet connection to Yorba Linda and work there!
So, I will be sitting by my IE just waiting to click on my MTStars link, click on Company Board, and find out that I can soon be making THE BIG BUCKS doing radiology transcription.
But let's just keep this between us, just IN CASE they only have 3 or 4 positions open, ok? Deal or No Deal?????
OSI's new suggestion box LOLOL
OSI never has listened to what MT's said and won't start now. They are old school their way or no way with awfully unqualified people who make all their crazy rules. I have no faith in OSI at all and am so happy to have 4 different job offers that I will make a decision on this week.
Suggestion for MTSOs
I think that every account has probably one or two crappy people. In all fairness I think that each MT on shift or on that account should have to do X amount of that doctor. That way every one does a little and no one gets stuck with all of it. So everyone might lose a little production but not enough to devastate. Wouldn't it be nice?
Suggestion for Tracie
What you may want to do, Tracie, is wait for the interview and ask any and all questions you need to satisfy your OWN curiousity and concerns. If you surrender your judgement-making to the likes of those who regularly post on bitch boards such as these- boards that are unmonitored, uncensored and unmanaged, you will be leaving the decision on your professional career choices to a bunch of unknown people with various axes to grind. Read some of these posts as they discuss certain employers- you'll NEVER read where an MT was fired from a company- it's always THEY quit because things were horrible or that the company lied to them or cheated them out of money, or any one of a thousand other accusations. You will also note the these people or anonymous and can write anything about anybody without consequence. Even competing transcription companies get into the act- how easy is it to spread horrible rumors about a company knowing that the MT's read it and tend to believe everything they read. So, do your due diligence- ask any and all questions. Ask to speak to an employer or supervisor currently employed so that you can get the truth. Go to their web site and see if that helps. Start out as part-time and try it out for a bit. I can tell you this- they are growing by leaps and bounds so they must be doing something right. I like where I am, but have a few friends and former co-workers with them today, and they do alright for themselves. That's my suggestion anyway. Good luck!
Very Good Suggestion!!
I agree. I thank you for this suggestion. We have recently started doing this with candidates we speak with and we send out a survey to them after the process so we as a company can improve.
I appreciate your posting.
Matt
Question/suggestion
Are you fairly new to the field? Either way, you can limit some of that frustration by only applying for jobs you are not qualified to do.
If you apply across the board, you will be overlooked by those applying with more experience.
Just a thought - best of luck.
I don't take a test in advance of a job unless I am pretty sure I will be contacted on passing. And I never test more than a few reports.
The testing and application process paints a very good picture of the company advertising.
Possible suggestion for IT and/or AHK Webbies
Gals, I would love some tips for speeding things up on AHK, I actually just downloaded the app and have no clue what to do with it (need time to read up on it, which I haven't had).
Anyway, so no one has to divulge email addy here, could you create a post in the Productivity section of the company board about this, that way we can email each other through work addy's or more freely divulge our private addy without spam threats, etc.
Seriously, I would love to learn some good codes for AHK usage myself - though I do not own IT and just cannot afford it right now.
Suggestion - send this to Lou Dobbs at CNN

What a wonderful suggestion thats a perfect fit for you!
You could take over operations there with your cohorts, three stooges flipping burgers. Too funny!!!
This was great suggestion, I did the first one yesterday.
The real free site is linked to ftc.gov and it's annualcreditreport.com. Very cool. Thanks for the suggestion about the 4-month gap; sounds great.
good suggestion about re: line. thanks
will try that next time as I have 17 years experience, maybe it will get some more attention.
Susan. Can I make a suggestion?
Trying slugging through the posts below from the last 2 days about TTD and pay special attention to MT's exchanges. Don't spend a whole lot of time worrying about her. She can hold her own and take care of herself.
Suggestion - don't be afraid to talk to your STM sm
about this. Rather than being scared or crying about too many blanks / ESL, why don't you set a time to talk to her (or him)? Just say I am worried about my %QA and want to know what you think we can do to bring it down. You might be surprised.
That's a great suggestion, and I agree.
I have been in this a long time, but I would be interested in training for ultrasound tech... I wonder how much that would bring in salary? Does anyone know? We can always transcribe on the side for extra money... even with VR the extra money would be pocket money which is always welcome. If I were younger, I would go into nursing, just can't now... Thanks for your great and positive idea... I hope that other people can add to this.
Good suggestion, but that would make too much sense.

More memory, creation of glossaries, suggestion box for what
s
So what is the suggestion if all nationals are going to VR for these reduced rates. I suppose a lot
of people will just stop coming into this profession as I expect they already have and others will train for other jobs. No sure what the future holds thats for sure. Seems like no money so that will move a lot of people out of this. Who needs all the aggravation that we are given for no money.
I have one suggestion..If there is no work. MOVE ON..why whine and complain on here EVERY day. I
agree with Jay. Maybe other people have OTHER things they would like to talk about besides being out of work every day at TransTech. I will say this.. with that much controversary and unhappy there, I would never work there and neither should you if your so miserable. Obviously, something is really wrong with that picture. Now, move on.. You can do better.
Whatever mar, I made the suggestion to her, not you. Pick another topic, you wore this one out...nm
