My child is insured by her father, but I do not have insurance

and as far as work availability. I have worked for about 4 different companies in the last year. Things start off well, plenty of work, and then all of a sudden the work dries up. Currently, I have 3 backup accounts, and yet still out of work. Tired of hearing about slow downs. When I worked directly for hospital, both while I was in-house and at home, we had slow downs. They lasted a day or two at specific times of the year. We could use our PTO to take time off. With these companies, there is no backup for no work...no work = no pay. I cannot depend on my income at all since losing my hospital job. I have not made anywhere close to what I used to make and Im just totally frustrated. The economy of the state I live in is such right now that jobs are few and far between and the unemployment rate is very high right now. Feel like I am running out of options.

My children are insured by their father and I purchase my
insurance. For vacations, I work an extra day a week for a twice a month for a couple months going into the month of my vacation. As for holidays, I usually work them. I look at it as being blessed enough to have a job at home where I can be with my girls and so if my usual days off happen to fall on the holiday, I usually volunteer to work 1/2 day, usually in the evening of the holiday so I can have the day with my girls and I work after they are in bed. Hope this helps!
My father born same year so
you and I are probably 2 golden oldies, right? I love these years, so far, so good.
Are you insured now? Usually if SM
you have your certificates of insurance documentation for 2 years prior they waive any pre-existing.
Insured MTSO
Just my 2 cents -- I have professional liability insurance -- I have several hospital accounts which require it - and that they be named insureds on this policy. I'm not incorportated or an LLC, so I am paying about $600 a year to have maximum coverage. This generally protects all my assets such as home, office equipment, etc should there ever be a lawsuit. I also have a paragraph right in my contract that says all completed documents will be considered drafts until read and signed by the doctor. Realistically they probably never read them, but at least it is a defense should anything ever go to court. A few years back one of my docs was arrested for Medicaid fraud and I was subpoened (sp?). The FBI showed up at my door with a search warrant for all medical records I might have archived for this doctor. My insurance company would have paid for legal advice or defense if needed (it wasn't). To me, the insurance was well worth the price.
Rates with my insurance company are about 300 a year for a single person with minimum coverage, which some of my MTs have purchased on their own. My company is the Chicago Insurance Company and I go through a local broker for the policy.
Would I tell my child
I would tell my child that determination is a necessary start. I would also tell them that a PROPER education is key and to beware of shoddy or inferior schools, especially in the field of MT. The field is just too competitive and there are too many good schools. I do not care what sacrifice I had to make (second mortgage, second job, borrow from family), I would see that my child went to any 1 of the big 3. I have done recruiting and I know how some of these lesser schools are viewed .
You must have seen the ad that has the woman with the child on her lap - sm
That's a joke. All the pictures show the moms with the kids on their laps transcribing away. DOES THIS SEEM REALISTIC TO YOU?? But yet, people fall for it! I have been doing this for 15 years and make $62,000, but I PAID MY DUES AND WORKED MY BUTT OFF to get there. I worked in a hospital with others around me to help me out, when I was confident I left and worked at home, now I'm doing my own thing.
Nothing wrong with a 70's child!
Who are you to say that her apology shouldn't be accepted? Wow, yourself.
My taxes pay for your child
Here again our taxes are paying for you having children -- tired of it. People that get money back or even more than they pain all due to having kids -- we pay for their children. No wonder we have such a deficit and such a work ethic, -- they want everyone to take care of them -- so tired of that.
Hot Child In The City
But just think how much easier it'll be to look at that electric bill! I keep ours over 80, but I'm the opposite...65 and lower and the heat is ON!
I'm an uneducated child who..:
Makes $5000 consistently! LOL. BTW, it helps to learn teenage slang so you know what's going on with your kid. Did I finally shut you up or what? Cheers!
or a selfish child...
that's what my kids used to say until I taught them that they need to care about other people, too. We need to work together, folks.
I have 1 child at home
I used to try to work very early, but my accounts have no work early any more, so now I work through the day around nap times or whenever I can squeeze a minute in. It is not easy at all, but the alternative is paying for daycare, so I keep struggling through. I keep hoping it will get easier.
I love my children but having a child does not mean
everything is honey and sunshine. I really think nothing anymore about people who say they do not want. I think they are being realistic about a job you give yourself to for 18+ years, sometimes with not the most pleasant of outcomes in a relationship when a person who wants other things strives to have what they want and what they need. I used to think people who said no children were selfish- I understand their statements now. Motherhood is very much played up as far as I am concerned. Most of these posts are speaking from having young babies, toddlers before teen years and grown- those are the really good years. No pity needed nor wanted. My children had a very priviledged upbringing.
Yes -- we are all so very aware that you are their Golden Child. NM

golden child! LOL! good one. nm

Was your child so sick you have to permanently
stay home or could you have returned to your job with just a small amount of time off? A good inhouse job would be hard to give up unless totally necessary but by now that inhouse might have outsourced anyway. I had 2 that did. I do not read the board but what is the going price now? I work parttime now and make over $20 an hour as independent for a national.
FMLA for the birth of a child
I work for Spheris and am questioning their FMLA policy. They are telling me that while I'm eligible for UP TO 12 weeks of FMLA, they are only approving 6 weeks after the birth of my child. According to what I read and understand about FMLA, for the birth of a child you are entitled to the full 12 weeks but HR is telling me that it's up to them to decide what I am able to take off and right now they feel I only need 6 weeks unless they have a doctor's note to extend it (which my doctor will not provide as there is no medical reason at this time). Everyone else I know gets the full 12 weeks and has never had a problem with their employers so I'm wondering who is right.
I also have a special needs child, but my company routes
our work so that one person can't do lots and lots of minutes and there not be any for the others. Usually there is plenty of work for everyone to do lots and lots of "extra" minutes. There have been rare days where there wasn't a lot of extra work, usually due to the hospital system being down, and I may be a couple of hundred lines short because there needed to be some work for everyone, but usually the next day there was plenty to go around. Unfortunately most companies just want the work done and doesn't care who does it. If someone stays up all night to work that is better for TAT, which is a major concern with most companies these days.
If ya think $877/month for empl+child is fair..go for it
Just thing of ABducting a child..take a way. ADDuc

Child labor laws haven little or nothing to do with it. sm
If children aren't developing a decent work ethic, or expect things handed to them, that's something they're learning at home (or, rather, /not/ learning at home). I'd look first to the parents before I'd start blaming outside influences.
"How to avoid your child while you work"
I had forgotten about that. I was so disgusted about the other OSi tactics but that little jewel was in the back of my mind. My baby means everything to me and I will avoid OSi while I work is the bottom line.
Agree. Child at work. Run along, little Initial Capser. nm

I don't think it is acting like a spoiled child to share your experience...
the original poster asked the question, we are just sharing our side of the story...
Dont they make you feel like a child with the threatening emails?
,
They also offer paternity leave and also both leaves for adoption of a child.
I love these people.
pregnancy is a disability when you have complications/C-section/ and even child birh is a procedure.
So just because you didnt get money for your pregnancy, then just get over it.
I had a horrible time with both of my pregnancies and could not work even though I wanted and needed to.
People can get off of work for 6 weeks for drug treatment, mental angious, etc. Those are not disabilities but are conditions that warrant time off.
I think someone is turning green with envy and doesnt handle life well.
401k funds are protected by govt insurance similar to the insurance
that banks have (FDIC). It is safe even if the company goes under.
The insurance cost is double for Transcend but insurance probably doesn't factor in for her.
I have heard more good things about Axolotl than Transcend, although it seems Axolotl may be less flexible with your schedule and someone told me that QA was pretty strict, which should not matter either if you have worked for a hospital and know what your QA score is.
The insurance plan in my opinion is excellent insurance. I am not sure if it will change when it'
time to renew or not. I really hope not but I know that a lot of companies change every year in an effort to keep costs down because most insurance companies start raising rates after you have been with them a year. The insurance is Great West and they also have excellent dental and vision plans. I believe the cost is less than $70 a pay period for the employee.
Insurance sucks compared to my old insurance... sm
The insurance seems like they don't want to cover anything, even simple prescriptions I used to pay 4 or 10 dollars on I now pay 20 to 43 dollars. I like the company/people so far, just don't like the insurance.
Insurance Questions: Can you tell me what you pay for insurance through your
MTSO, which MTSO it is and whether the coverage is decent? I currently pay $92.00 a pay period for decent coverage but am trying to figure out if I am getting a good deal or if I could do better elsewhere.
TIA.

You may be better off going directly to the source, so to speak. I do not have the insurance, but I have seen the rates, and they are reasonable, even affordable! I believe it's through either Blue Cross or UHC, or it may be both, you get to choose. Anyways, I do get the eye insurance for my family, which is at no cost to me. As I said before, your best source is to ask MQ itself. Good luck, and don't count MQ out just because of all of the negative posts on this board! I'm very happy w/them, and have been for over four years now!
MQ insurance
I don't know if it's still the same, but when I worked for MQ, I cancelled my insurance and went to IC status when the family coverage went up to $900/month. I asked them how could that be with the largest transcription company in the world, and they claimed it was based on the area I lived in.
Insurance
They don't let you go, they make you a statutory employee. If they let you go, then they would put themselves in a situation to where they may have to pay unemployment. If they move you to statutory and take all your benefits, then they don't have to pay your insurance or PTO days. Working off the clock is just free labor for them. So basically, it is going to benefit them either way.
insurance
I carry myself and my husband and it costs me between $30 and $40 monthly. This is for an HMO. I think they told me the PPO was between $80 and 120 monthly, but the HMO had more providers in my area so I went with it. There were several choices between HMO and PPO. Like I said before, this will vary depending on which hospital. I work for a hospital in PA. I'm not sure about details for the Florida hospitals.
For the insurance directly through Diskriter (if you work for them directly), I think they quoted me around $300 a month for two people.
PT Insurance
There is a company in WI who offers insurance at 30 or 32 hours a week. For the life of me I can't remember the name but out of Waukesha, WI. Hopefully someone can jump in and give you the name.
PT Insurance
I keep wondering why more companies don't offer an option like the hospitals where you pay a little more as PT, but can at least obtain insurance as part of their group. Or for that matter, why AAMT cannot offer a group option for insurance for all the ICs, etc.
insurance
You get to choose full time with benefits, full time with limited benefits, or part time.
Now, tell me about the insurance. I may sm
still look into this.Thanks!

Check with IRBA on the internet. It is a group for small business owners and then you get a group rate. You join IRBA and then there are different insurance companies.

I checked into the self employed insurance (Mega Life) and the deductibles are high -- which I could tolerate -- but if you go into the hospital the deductible must be met for each occurence. So if you have two surgeries -- I broke my leg and had surgery for placement of a rod and plate, etc. Ten months later it comes out -- deductible for each has to be met. I have worked insurance also and their plan is hard to understand what each covers. You pay for your basic and add on -- chemotherapy, outpatient labs, etc. I went with a high deductible but where I put money in a tax free account to pay the deductible should I need it. I am self employed so it works for me. Most of the docs I type for give me free office visits and labs done in their office as well as prescrition samples. But then have only been to the doctor three times in the past 3 years. But do a search for medical insurance and you will get a lot of info. But with the difference of over $200 for a $2000 deductible, I saved that in a year and like I said it is pre tax account.

Poster below gave you good info - WMX probably has best, most affordable ins. of all MTSOs.
I know several IC's, over 50, with no insurance. SM
They rave to me about all the money they make, however, they cannot afford to see a doctor and rarely do, one goes to hospital when they run those studies.
Yeah, they make more than I do, but you cannot enjoy the money if your are dead.
Sorry, like I said, this rant is directed at older (over 40) IC's.
Insurance sm
I am over 50 and have insurance through AARP - 118.50 per month. I also have an arrangement with my personal physician to pay cash at a much lower price than he would normally charge for someone with insurance. Also, because I am IC, I have multiple tax deductions that lowers my income so that I can qualify for cheap drugs, free mammograms, etc. I also have additional accident coverage in case I am in an accident or fall or something that would be more than my AARP insurance coverage. This has worked well for me for about 13 years. Most disease can be prevented and if you take care of yourself, you are unlikely to have an emergency.

Why can't people just pay for their own insurance? IF you make good money it is affordable.
insurance
After changing jobs and realizing I couldnt'afford the new company's insurance, my husband and I attempted to buy our own insurance. Guess what, no reputable health insurance company in our state would even accept us at any price because of our physical condition. They only want you if you're young and/or healthy. So buying your own insurance is not always an option. I would advise anyone to go ahead and buy their own insurance before they get too old or in too bad of health and not count on any company's insurance, because if you lose it, you won't have any. At least that's been my experience.

If you find someone that gives good insurance coverage the pay usually goes down. We need to something about these insurance rates as no one is getting rich but the insurance companies.
It's not so much about the insurance -
I believe that by law (?) new insurance cannot turn preexisting claims if you have proof of creditable coverage from your prior carrier without a lapse of more than 63(?) days. If you were not so previously covered, I think some companies do make you wait a certain amount of time before they cover you for preexisting.
MW has excellent insurance through United. I suggest you either give your recruiter a call and ask (they usually don't mind giving you specifics as this is as much compensation as money is) and/or look up United Health care on line to see if there are any leads. Good luck to you.
