My 1 cent (keeping it low so opinion doesn't get offshored).

I agree with a lot of the other people. I will say, though, that I would be A-OK just working on Word since I'm assuming getting a the DocQScribe set up for a bunch of people might be cost prohibitive, at least at first.
Also, since you are talking hospital transcription, that is going to mean 7 day a week coverage. If the need arises, I would rather see rotating weekend coverage rather than requiring everybody to work every weekend.
Also, while cross-training is great for vacations, sick days, heavy work, it would be terrific to be able to get an account and not have to chase the work across 6 different accounts in a crazy MT version of musical chairs. I guess that would mean not over-hiring.
It may be unpopular, and it's probably easy for me to say because I've been at this for so long, but since we don't really establish seniority at a company, I would love to see some sort of reward for years on the job. I think I bring more to the table than someone with 2 years, and it would be great to be rewarded for that.
I'm sure I'll think of more...it's been so long since anybody asked what could make my job great that I had given up even thinking about it!

It doesn't come across as a reasoned opinion
This comes across as just a bash because there is no reason behind it which can be refuted. I would think that expressing an opinion on here would be okay if there were an opportunity to present a differing one- just saying don't work there doesn't really provide an opportunity for those who do work there and like it to refute any negative information. About the only response that could be made is I do, which limits any potential discussion. It's like saying, I hate liver, which may be an opinion but does not tell anyone why I hate it, which makes it sort-of useless information for anybody but those cooking for me.
I got the 9 cent
I very rarely come to these boards because I don't have time to listen or read all the whining but I have to put in my 2 cents here. I am one of those MTs who was upped to my higher line rate from my old company. Yes they asked me for verification of my line rate and I gave them my check stub that showed the lines I made and the line rate.
As I said, just my 2 cents. I love working for this company, everyone is very helpful and extremely professional.
will be offshored.
x
What? 1/2 cent per line? Do you mean
0.05, which is 5 cents?
one-half cent
nm
...Sorry..would be at .01 cent per word..don't know if you need
s
actually it was more like 1/4 cent when I worked there..
z
That's 1/4 cent more than you get at Transcend!

Just my 2-cent thoughts of IC
I don't think that companies who give you a pool to work from should consider this an IC position on any level since the MT has no control over how many doctors need to be learned at one time. How many other independent contractor job types do you know who would have to learn that many new 'skills' to complete a job?
Obviously a pet peeve of mine..If I am working as an IC, I should be able to determine how many I would/could learn and still stand a chance of getting the work or keeping the work. It doesn't work that way though. If you aren't willing to learn 30 different dictators, in 10 different fields, well, move along little doggie.
If I was offering 4 cents, I'd keep going but 2 is enough.
I don't see how this could be offshored at this point
or in the future. It is really much more intricate than MT as you have to know coding assigned by individual states as allowed by Medicare, and you pretty much have to know all Medicare/Medicaid regulations and independent insurance company regulations. Because of the oath you take when you become certified and because you have to be physically available IF a monetary/or jail term penalty is issued, I don't think employers would take the chance with coding that they do with MT. See, when it comes to getting paid for services, employers aren't as willing to take chances.
Oh, other employers who need coders are insurance companies and medical office management companies.
good luck,
d~
LINK TO WHAT ELSE IS OFFSHORED
I have spent the last hour doing research on offshoring of medical transcription. This is one of the sites that I found and now they do our taxes and legal stuff too? Some of the ones I found also offshore to Russia and China! Check this link out and look to the right of the page to see what else they are doing. They even listed some of the MTSOs and will sell you articles and information on their plan of action or whatever they call it.

VA accounts cannot be offshored
- so that could not have been the excuse given by the previous company/employer I mentioned. I know this is a huge factor for most companies providing quality work from quality MTs. Really is a sad situation all around. Sure don't see my medical bills decreasing and I prefer someone qualified and, because they are, hopefully adequately paid to type my medical records.
offshored to India.....
Why do you automatically assume that an Indian or any foreign employer will be hostile?
By not accepting to work for a foreign employer, you shoot youtself into your foot; because if you don't accept as an US MT the work, then they will be forced to offshore. It is the other way around, so much work is outsourced, because many US MTs refuse to work for 'hostile', foreign employers.
On top of this, there is literally no middle class in India; the gap between rich and poor is immense. The poor people who manage to get a good education are struggling for jobs, and they are good. There are IT experts who cannot find a job, students who studied a
couple of semesters of medicine, cannot work as a physician, start a career in medical transcription. And they are good, hardworking and very cheap; they are happy to survive.
Mexican do the work US citizen do not want to do, it is too 'low' for them.
Reading all these negative comments from US MTs, make me wonder if the profession of MT will go down the same road and will be given to people who are ready and 'eager' to take this kind of work.
What does scoping pay? And does it get offshored?
Perhaps recruiting has been offshored?
amn
I want to add: An US MT newbie would know, an offshored MT probably not..nm
nm
The companies that pay by the word don't even pay 1 cent
no message
i just turned down 4-cent offer, too
Of course, someone else will do it. They always will. But it won't be ME.
Stick to your guns, Gals.
I thought AllType offshored?
nm
They might be offshored BUT they drove down prices when they were sm
able to be sent offshore, prior to the VA system getting wise. Until 15 months ago, keeping the work in the USA was not a requirement for VA accounts. You had to be a US company but could have anyone do the work.
Most facilities don't know their work is offshored
the MT dept. head knows about it and nobody else. That's pretty evil. Hadn't thought about that.
All easy dictators are offshored
I was part of a package that Transcend purchased. We were all assured there would be no changes, which was initially true for several months........then the massive offshoring became more and more noticable. One account would have hundreds of jobs in the evening; at 5 AM there was nothing left and if there were any jobs available they were very difficult dictators.
It got to a point where any audible dictator was offshored and there were no decent dictators left. You also had to be flexible waiting for work. Sometimes you would have to wait 4-5 hours for jobs to be available. Then your health insurance was revoked for not meeting your quota.
My advice is that you have no choice, give them a try. Maybe your luck will be better. If you do have job currently, I would not consider changing.
Good luck!

Seemed really low to me, on the incentives. Maybe 1 cent per line for a lot of lines.
x
Oh good grief. A half a cent here or there does
not make you go from barely scraping by to RICH. It helps, but it's not that big of a difference. It's just incentive/bonus. Please get a grip.
so, you know for sure this account agrees to be offshored? (some do not agree).
nm
7 cent a line $8.75 hr (1000 lines 8 hr=$70) TERRIBLE nm
.
and they dont care is offshored. Bottom line to them
x
They only offshore if the client wants it. Most accounts do not want their work offshored. NM

9 months and it is not worth staying a year to get the BIG .002 cent raise.
Working for OSi will burn you out quick!
ANON, you're such a loser for posting your 2 cent goodbye!

who tried keeping me down....sm
First, I got rid of the husband who consistently tried keeping me down and shooting me down, and my sanity comes first, in 1991, and then in 1997 I made up business cards, and every Thursday (my only day off) I solicited another medical center. I sold myself and only walked into the offices of which work I wanted to do. I got 5 doctors and surgeons that first year. I went down to 2 MDs/ surgeons (one went into receivership which is a form of bankruptcy and 2 witches I dumped) , and so in 2000 started *moonlighting for MQ*......and still working for MQ and have 4 surgeons.
But every single Thursday I went and solicited another center in my area(s). And if I ran out of work again today? I'd do the exact same thing. *S*
Best of luck to you......*S*
I'm keeping it...sm
But I won't use their uninstall software. I'm computer saavy enough to figure out what to uninstall on my own and that will leave on everything I need. They aren't getting off that easy.
just one more way of keeping us all
and make sure nobody's work is worth giving them a raise. rather ingenious when U think about it, albeit unethical.
Actually they are keeping
companies are offshoring and laying off or cutting pay, Transcend continues to grow it's US MT workforce and retain pay rates. There is a reason they are in the ranking they are.
Any body hear of a company in MA that is hiring editors for 3 cent a line? sm
I asking for someone else, the email was signed Jay
Transcription Relief Services pays an extra cent for CMT status
nm
Thank you. I have been keeping a notebook
but have to email jobs, not fax, daily so thought it would be easier to do in a word document. Did not know about the Alt+tab, that should be of great help! Thanks again!
I had trouble keeping up with my
The QA department wants to proof everything before you get paid, therefore what you typed may not be what you get paid for. I couldn't ever figure out how much I was going to receive. People were real nice, accounts good, but there was room for dishonesty in line counting in my mind.
TT time keeping?
Do you punch in and out during the day for breaks, lunch, etc. Do they have a built in time clock on their system or do you keep a manual log and if so how exact do you need to be. Do you make a note of every potty break, etc.? Do they use these minutes against lines to figure your LPH rate like MQ does?
IMO, MTSO may do this as way of keeping MT in
x
You are right!!! thanks for keeping it real
KK
I have been keeping a list ... SM
I am sure these are not all the Escription companies, but this is what I have noted over the last couple of years.
Transcend, TTS, MVTS, Superior Global, Deventure, Proveros, Focus, DeVenture, AlphaMed, Sten-Tel, Medical Ink, Chase, Lee Perfect, Spryance, Milner, Central Transcription Services, On Point Medical Transcription.
Keeping it fresh
Okay, now don't everyone jump on me here. I've read the posts and I know the hardships we all face every day, BUT how do some of you keep it going after all of these years. I mean sometimes I think that if I have to type one more report I'm going to go nuts. Some of you have been in this longer than me at 15+ years. I have to do this another 15 years! I live in a remote area so I can't just go get a job anywhere. Some of you have done this 30 years. What keeps you going?
Have you considered keeping the job you have
while working for a new company, that way you can decide if you like the new one before jumping all the way in. Your old job can be your safety net. Just a suggestion. Good luck to you!
Got offered 1.5 cent/line this past week....she said her editors tell her they make good $$....
.
What is the problem? Are you having trouble keeping up?
nm
Thanks so much for the info, Fran, keeping it under my hat!! NM

Keeping TT benefits question
TT says that we must work 80 hours in two weeks to keep our benefits. Obviously I know this and am scheduled to work 80 hours in two weeks. However, when running out of work is an every other day thing now, can they take away your benefits if you work say 72 to 75 hours? I know they tell us there is always work at night or on your one weekend day off, but I picked my Tue-Sat schedule for a reason - because I have a life outside of work and don't have time to work nights or my days off!
It's not you. It's the Universe keeping you safe
My mom always said, If it's for you, you will get it. There is something better right around the corner. Good luck to you!
"All kinds of industry is offshored" yep, & guess who started it early 1980s?
