What better/larger companies?
I have noticed that all of the better/larger companies that everyone talks about are all going offshore. Spheris is already there and so is MQ. We need to stick together on keeping our MTSOs HOME where they belong!!! If they want to send work offshore, let those MTs from there transcribe their own medical reports!!!!!!!!!
Larger companies are doing this...........
I have become very angry when my husband has told me this is happening, as I too believe it is nothing more than age discrimination, BUT on the other hand, there are younger employees who have major medical situations and any company's insurance could be greatly affected by this.
Most of this is practiced by companies who pay high range salaries. I believe they are checking to make sure if they put that kind of money into an employee, that employee will be around for the long haul so to speak and not out sick all the time....
Either way, if all the hooplah about discrimination against handicapped, gender, etc. is out there, why would this even be legal. It obviously is legal but I really don't understand why it hasn't been brought up in an age discrimination case myself. The employer can always just say that candidate didn't fit the bill and it had nothing to do with their health but of course, companies used to say the same thing about race and sex, so who knows!!
The larger companies are squeezing out the smaller ones, so they
probably do have 3 new hospitals starting. I have been letting my accounts fade out naturally, not renewing them when contracts come due, not replacing people that quit, etc. I am down to 3 of us, and will be looking to work for a national soon. No more headaches, no more worries about keeping hospitals happy, no more worrying about the financial well-being of my employees. I am done kaput. Finished as an MTSO.
Who do you think will still be around? I am looking at Medware, Execuscribe, Keystrokes, SilentType, Cymed and MDI-MD. Any others? Do you think these will be around and survive? I lost two accounts to Keystrokes and one to Silent Type. Neither was cheaper but the hospitals all felt they were bigger so better. What's up with that?
I haven't worked there in close to a year now, but I was very happy while I was there. nm
:)
Also you get 3 of 6 holidays OFF every year
rotate Christmas and T'giving if they happen to fall on your day to work. You never have to work both in the same year.
You get paid extra to type on holidays even if you aren't scheduled to work.
I love Transtech, best company I have ever worked with.
Companies close old and gain new contracts all the time. (SM)
Stop rumoring.
If you have information, share with the Administrator or myself. Otherwise, leave rumoring off the board.
Goldbird
3 holidays per year, your choice, except (sm)
Christmas and Thanksgiving which must be 1 of the 3, and you have to rotate those 2. You are paid time and a half on a holiday, whether scheduled or not.
Must work one year and then 5 days off - no holidays
are paid days off. If you chose to take the day off you don't get paid, if you work the holiday usually lines and a half for that day.
What they told me in the e-mail was 3 holidays per year
What they are looking for now are MTs who want to work either Sunday thru Thursday or Tuesday thru Saturday, and they only require 700 lines per day. That's what they told me in the e-mail they just sent me.
And you are required to work 3 holidays per year, but you get extra pay for that. nm
You only get 3 holidays OFF per year. PTO is paid at a very low rate. There is 401k...sm
But the company match is only up to 2%. Employees are required to work at least 1 weekend day every week.
All of the hospitals/clinics have a lot of ESLs, that's just the way it is. But a lot of them also use canned normals, which we love.
There's a lot more to consider than how much the medical plan costs.
My company only acknowledges 6 holidays per year, and Easter isn't one of them, so no extra pay.
x
NO paid holidays for us all year round. If there is any work on the holiday, you get
lines and a half, but usually there is no work. They usually clear out the work before the holiday so there is no 1-1/2 line pay remaining. Transtech names 6 holidays each year, but the MT takes those holidays off WITHOUT pay. I am sure the office staff and all other non-MT staff take off WITHOUT pay, too, aren't you???? LOL
Which MT companies DO pay an MT for holidays. I don't consider a day a HOLIDAY unless it is PAID. They can call it 6 holdays, but have to take off without pay . . . . just another day, i.e, get sick -- NO PAY.
You aer required to work 3 holidays each year ... not sure about the quitting early thing. nm
x
Webmedx has 6 paid holidays a year, separate from PTO, for full time employees.

THERE ARE COMPANIES WHO PAY HOLIDAYS
I work for one and if I do work that holiday, I get my holiday pay, plus the lines that I type.
Are there any companies that don't work the major holidays? nm
s
Which companies pay for holidays -- not working the holiday but OFF
I'm talking like the office (in-house employees) do -- LIKE LOCKING THE DOORS -- want to lock my at-home office door and know that I am GETTING PAID for the holiday as I lock the door behind me and enjoy the day off as my fellow in-house office employees do.
I understand keeping a skeleton crew of at-home MT's working the holidays, but we should be paid for those holidays just as the in-house employees get paid for those and don't have to worry, but go home and enjoy the holiday. What is the reason behind management's thinking on this?? Just because they know the in-house people face-to-face, does not mean that we at-home employees of whom they have never seen our face, should not get paid for holidays. I think the in-office employees should wear our shoes for a year (working ALL holidays WITHOUT PAY) and see how they feel about the subject. I can assure they would be pressing management to make a policy change in a HURRY.
What I mean is, to be paid for holidays, even if you dont work. Major holidays.
Sorry. What I mean is, to be paid for holidays, even if you dont work. Major holidays.
Very few MTSOs pay for holidays. Some give you 6 days you can use for holidays or regular PTO, but

Do all companies require you to work 1 year before you can take vacation?
Meaning you are an employee, of course. Just wondering if there is any hope out there. If you start with a company and it turns out horrible, then you have to start all over again, waiting for another year to go by. I don't want to wish my life away!!
Thanks everyone!
are all companies running low or completely out during this time of year. sm
I have been working for this medium sized MTSO based in Tennessee (not TransHealth) and for the last 2-3 months there has been very low low work-- and guess what, we're expected to get at least 1000 lines to be eligible for Health Insurance paid by employer.... that is 1/2 of it. Here it is 6 a.m. and there is no work on my 2 accounts. Is anyone hiring now that has abundant work and pay at least 9 cpl with benefits. I need another job.
lol They are the 2 biggest MT companies in the world and growing every year.
lol
Those are the same companies I thought about telling her. She has maybe 25 year experience in the
hospital setting. I will recommend these companies to her. I think she will be fine with one of them. The hospital is going voice rec.
Howdy! In the last year, I applied and got offered jobs at a minumum of 10 companies
and not ONE single place checked any references - not 1. Even the one who said they would, Diskriter, never made 1 call. Do you feel lucky??
Is it safe to ask a company after one year for a raise? Do companies give raises?
Curious
Holidays - Is there any company who pays holidays?
Are there companies (like in the old days) who pay you for Christmas, NY, Thanksgiving, etc., MAJOR HOLIDAYS?
Larger squeeze. .
Since medical care is 24% of our gross domestic product (1.9 trillion)and electronic charts has been made law, a small MTSO could not pay for a VR machine or an $80,000 dictation retrieval system. Smaller is better, but bottom line always speaks. 1000 lines a day is achievable working in one hospital, familiarity, normals. Unfortunately that standard carried over to MTSOs, with MTs transcribing eight accounts at the same time. No money!! Pay for your own computer, $$high-speed internet and/or phone line. Unachievable benefits based on production. What a deal!
I would imagine all the larger ones do, whether

There is a new, larger account coming on in Dec. (sm)
I would imagine they are hiring in anticipation of that. Work flows vary anywhere, but these people go out of their way to try and keep us all in work on a steady basis. Benefits good, you are treated well by management, pay on time, accounts pretty good, platform is such that you can actually make money.
Ups and downs are the name of the game, but I would highly suggest you at least talk to them. Hiring on with them was one of the best things I ever did for myself. I will ride the waves of feast and famine gladly with this company.
Opinion: Small company vs. larger one?
Just looking for opinions on the positive side and/or negative side of a small company vs. a larger one. Help me out here....please!
Correction: They owned the other one and built this which one which is much larger. sm
I just read this in one of the magazines and asked my lead if they were moving far. She said it is literally across the parking lot from a small office to a huge building, taking on the whole building. I am thrilled to be part of a growing company instead of the sinking ship I was on!!!
I'd be afraid to jump from a larger company to a
Sometimes these smaller companies seem great, but then the contracts run out and they lose accounts. Also, the smaller companies do not offer as many benefits. Don't feel left out. All of these people going to Keystrokes could be in for a rude awakening and then have to go back to MQ. JMO.
I think they are making a much larger profit on the backs of MTs...
Think about it. Do you think it is costing the clients any less for their transcription. How would they even know it was VR? If the MTSO charges the same, they are making more money (half of what they used to pay the MT).
The requirement is 50% participation. It is actually harder for a larger company sm
than a small company if they are national to get good rates. Once in, they will have it easy after that. I dealt with it personally for another company and it was a nightmare. Insurance is crazy and once national, it is harder to get the insurance. They should have gone with BC/BS when smaller but chose Unicare for some reason. Now they are regretting it.
This hospital started in July after WX lost another, larger acct.
Currently, the acct is always out of work. Perhaps they will be sending more work WX's way now.
my first year I made 16k. Doubled that second year. Going on year 6 with (sm)
two local accounts I earned 23,000.00 and a national I earned 35,400... 58,400 this year. Don't ask me how many hours, though, I really have no idea. I'm pretty motivated. (When people ask me how many hours I work a week I reply as many as it takes I'd say 40-50/week. I am also a fitness instructer and personal trainer, about 5 hours a week or so. Decent money (sometimes under the table!) but mostly I just do it for fun and to be social and wear cute work-out clothes.
that first year was a rough one... but I consider it part of my education.
I'm pretty motivated.
Close, but not quite.

All I have to do is close it out.
NM
Sure you do, if you don't have a close friendship with
Don't be fooled. It has been said here before that the office staff are all pretty much related in one way or another, and they are. So why couldn't those working at home be close friends and relatives too?
pretty close to DQS
a little different
If they were very close friends, yes I would let them know. sm
However, I would be very tactful in doing so. Maybe give them a hint to start looking for another company or job that you have some inside information...etc. If they don't get the hint, then just tell them.
Chances are the company may know this is coming and didn't tell the MTs. Most companies know when their contracts are up for bid or they are given 30-90 day notice the hospital dropping them. So, if the owners of the company do not have the common courtesy to let their MTs know, shame on them! It happens all the time in the corporate world.
Little bit of advice - do not get into gossipy detail, he said, she said. Just do it with diplomacy.
Good luck whatever you decide.
this will never come close to mtjbs. n/m

October is close enough
You don't have to be to the letter, to the day, to the exact moment. It's October in 3 months. Four years and 9 months is just as good as five years.
they are based close to me

I doubt it.....Not even close

fat cat may be close to retirement sm
but she still has some humanity about her! Probably why she still has a job so close to retirement.
Not all companies have the attitudes that you post. In this business, there is absolutely no call for that kind of attitude. The companies can cover their butts. Half of them don't have work anyway.
I have been through exactly what the poster posted and I told MQ to stick it after 23 years. Have not had a problem getting a job and have been upfront and honest about the situation I found myself in.
When an employer calls someone at hospice and starts ragging on them, knowing full well there is no work to do the 8 HOURS I WAS SCHEDULED PER WEEK, then its time to get out. I did and never looked back. Probably was the boost I needed to get out of that place.
I applaud the OP for doing what she did. Family comes before any doggone job. She won't have a problem geting UE either. She applied for FMLA, they denied her, what else can she do? FMLA is there for situations just like this.
I don't blame her for telling the higher-ups. I would have let them know too before I left that place and never looked back.
Wish I knew waht place it was!
It should be getting close to the time where
this conversation disappears off the board. Did anyone ever notice when we start discussing line counts at a CERTAIN company the conversation disappears - poof, like it never existed.
I've been noticing the same problems, and I think I work at the same place as all of you. I have also noticed that my own formula for adding lines up using the word count, which I usually took the count in word and divided by 1.123, and it equalled out pretty darn close to the other count. Now that doesn't add up anymore. Wow, something is definitely wrong with this place. I think it's time to jump overboard for me.
Not even close - laughing
I am just one who has been trying to offer 'food for thought' posts, that's all.
