Are you saying your bank put a hold on your check - sm
Or that your employer is telling you that your check didn't clear because their bank has placed a hold on the checks?
I'm asking because I worked for an MTSO who would always pay late or bounce checks and claim it was his bank's fault as they were placing extended holds on his deposits thereby funds not being available - supposedly.
If it is your bank, then yes, they will place holds on the check until the funds clear the bank - anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks, depending on their policy.
If it is the MTSO, run, don't walk, away from this company. I had this happen to me back in 2005/2006 and believe it or not, it is still happening and it is amazes me that companies like this can continue to do business this way.
Any hold outs on the PC check at A?nm
nm
Geez, it's so illegal to hold back a last week's check, regardless of the reason.
nm
Your fine as long as your employee, but if your IC, dont hold your breath waiting for a check.
Only employees get direct deposit. If you opt to be an IC, the checks may or may not get out and you may or not get them on a certain day.
Check Monster, CareerBuilder, MedHunters.com. Check with the companies you see listed if they're
s
You can also do a background check on companies
Check with the BBB and check with other agencies for reports against the company.
As an MTSO myself, I encourage that. It's always a good idea to check out what you're getting into. I have no problem with MTs sharing this information on a message board, either. I think it's a good thing. If an MTSO has a history of not paying employees, that is definitely something an MT needs to know in advance and if other MTs failed to report that to the BBB or other agencies, a message board may be the only place you can find that info.
However, when I work for someone, even if I have a problem with that company or person, I will keep my mouth shut until I quit. Once you no longer have a working relationship with them, then it's fair game. Until then, I prefer to zip my lip. I don't burn my bridges in case I would like a reference later and quitting always looks better on a resume than being let go. It's not a matter of loyalty, just good business sense. It will always be more beneficial to you, the MT, to keep your thoughts to yourself until you sever the working relationship.
The last 2 companies I worked for DD my check the
first pay period. There could possibly be a bank issue, but it isn't an across the board issue.
I would check back with the companies
and just ask them what you may or may not have done wrong so you know in the future. I have done that in the past and they are usually polite and helpful.
A few dial-up companies inside. Check their
Accept dial up: First Choice, Spheris, Precyse only if 37K or faster, SoftScript, and possibly Transform....nm
They asked for a background check but most companies do, don't they?
They asked for $55 for my background check. I have tried to search, Google, ect, and I can't find anything about them except more job listings. Any advice at all for a struggling newbie?
Still good companies in my opinion...was not on the list. Check them out for yourself OP
May not be lying.. *certain* companies never bothered to check their work.
x
Thanks -- I'll make a note of those 2 companies and check them out. sm
Unfortunately, I am reaching that ripe old age where I see a crown in my future
Some companies don't give that first check until 4 or 6 weeks have passed. Ck your contract. nm
,
well then, maybe the only way they got a hold
of your name is that maybe you are from New York. Did you used to work for Ubiqus maybe????
lol, hold on now...
love the weather but the cost of living is high so my pay with my job versus your pay with your job might just equal out and weigh even. the good thing, though, is when we have meetings, we do the conference thing from home and use it as downtime.
hold
Anyone ever experienced having a hold put on a check they received from the company they work for?
I just did. The company said the funds have been released but bank still shows hold. I asked for another form of payment as I didn't want to wait for the hold to come off or possibly find the check returned and they actually had the gall to say, no-one else has had this problem. My reply, that's great for them but this is my situation. They also said, we just sent another check. Just what I need. Another worthless piece of paper!
Checks always late anyway so time to start job hunting again.
Why did they hold them out??? Did you
x
What degree do you hold?
I hold a bachelors in psychology and I wouldn't trade my education for anything. By the way, I've left MT and now have a great career in a completely different field thanks to my bachelor's degree. I'm now working towards my masters.
Hold my hand??? sm
How about returning my calls instead of hiding behind the answering machine!! How about answering one of my dozen emails!! Give it up Lee. You're just making the obvious more obvious.
Don't let that hold you back
I never paid $25 to get my check delivered via UPS, and I got it the following Tuesday. I believe they're mailed on Friday. FN is in CA, and I'm in CO. There are no guarantees on mail service, but I wouldn't let this hold you back. Are you considering part time or full time? If you're considering full time, why not become an SE and get the direct deposit? You only have to do 12,000 lines per pay period as an SE. May be worth checking into! Good luck!
Hold your ground everybody
They should only be able to get newbies or Indians for that rate. It seems like a lot of companies are hopping on the bandwagon to try to get away with offering lower and lower rates. I have noticed some companies later on bringing their rates back up a bit though - probably because they can't get any good MTs at that rate - so HOLD YOUR GROUND!!! I think it's doing some good already. I also recently read that some doctors and hospitals are requesting that they work be transcribed in the US only - which is good news!
ESP is quite good. You might want to hold
off on spending your money on ShortHand since you don't already have your shortcuts loaded on it. I did buy it because I'm used to having it, but ESP is really good and easy to use. The only thing I'm using Shorthand for is my long normal reports, but it's not really necessary.
You are right not to hold your breath
Sorry, but as much as I'm for the concept of free enterprise our system of cRapitalism breeds corruption and greed. Watch for this industry to be further diluted with regard to quality, benefits, pay, etc.
That 'doesn't' mean good jobs aren't possible, just that ever since the cRapitalists discovered there is $ in transcription, the industry was exploited... and the winners will generally 'not' be the worker bees. The 'new' generation coming into the field will not have the history (memory) of what it was like before, and because these jobs will still be higher-paying than many others, and allow one to work from home, finding 'worker bees' will likely not be too difficult, especially with the advent of VR...
Sorry to be a bummer - hope I'm proven wrong on this.
hold up on that party
you may need it later.
Don't Hold Your Breath
She does have a brand new $60,000 vehicle to pay for first.... Guess where her priorities are?
Medquist does but I would hold off until
.
I can't hold this news.
Came to know from A VERY RELIABLE SOURCE that ***** ******** is working as QA for ****** ********(MBS Millenium Business Services).
See more info about MBS here:

They do expect you to hold to your
scheduled hours unless the work is slow. Then you can flex, but you need to make up your time later.
One weekend per month is required.
Hold on there! Now I must step in.
Don't be putting down people who like to do VR. I did straight typing for over 15 years and I am making the same, if not more, doing VR now. I was not a very slow typist, and quality is my first priority. I've been doing VR for almost a year now and love it. What makes it easy for me is I never really relied on Expanders to up my line rate since my hospital didn't really allow them, except for autocorrect. I didn't have an Expander until 6 years ago. Doing VR, I can't use the expander I did finally learn, but it's no big deal.
Like some other posters stated, it depends on who else is doing the reports whether or not VR is easy or hard. Some days, my reports are easy, other days tough. It's the same when doing straight typing. Some dictators are easy, other are tough.
I don't think VR is really made for large companies with hundreds of transcriptionists. It's made for the smaller companies that all conform to the same verbiage.
If you're good/fast/quality-oriented with straight typing without expanders, then VR would be good for you. If you rely on an expander to get those lines, you will have a problem in the beginning, but if you're flexible, it will pan out.
Don't down people because they like VR. You know what they say......try it. You may like it.
I hold that same grudge - SM
I remember the conference call sometime in August 2006 when Cymed management told us about SPi taking over. They were all acting like it was such a great thing that was happening and that we wouldn't notice any major changes at all. That was the biggest load of crap I have ever been fed by a company! I remember getting a one-line email from our account manager on Thanksgiving day of 2006 saying that she was leaving with no explation whatsoever. It basically just said, I'm leaving; it was nice working with all of you. I held on for a few more months to see if things would stabilize, but they only got worse. I quickly started sending out applications to other companies and got the heck out of there as soon as I got a great offer and I have been much, much happier ever since. I still shudder when I think about my SPi days!
How do you get a hold of Administration
Do not jump on me. I am trying to ask a legitimate question and would appreciate a correct (not guess) response. I did look all over the Board and could not find a link. If I missed it, my bad. If not, can someone help me, since I do not want to get YELLED at for asking a stupid question about a company.
Requesting Assistance:
How do you get a hold of a Moderator or Administration?
Regarding:
Using the Search For on the Board.
Question:
Are there any parameters that cannot be searched?
Yes, I am using the Search For box to the right of the Post A New Message box, and not the Google Search.
What I have found:
When I try to search for companies that commonly go by acronyms (for example OSi or UST), I do not get any hits at all even though I can see that they were just discussed a few inches down the page (I still want to see if there is any other information available from previous posts). If I search for US Transcription – all the results have the word transcription but not UST or US Transcription.
It seems to me that the search word has to be at least 4 characters or it will not find anything. Is that correct, or am I just doing something wrong?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
How do you get hold of WEBMX
Hi i want to apply to webmx, how do you find their website i could not find it. thank you

Don't hold your breath.
Especially if you are part-time.
Whoo, hold on a minute
Just heard a talk on this yesterday, true you can freeze your credit for $10.00 for every place you have on your acct and then when you want to unfreeze $10.00 again for the same, every company but what I heard is not that easy to undo a freeze, takes longer and more involved.
Go to 2nd page - " Can't Hold This News"
There is a lady's name posted and being talked like crazy!!
it is not unusual for a bank to hold a
check over a certain amount for up to a week.
If at all possible, hold on to your existing job and try out the other job. BTDT. nm
/
That is true, they cannot hold you to set hours;
however, if they only need coverage at night or weekends, then you say yay or nay to working then. They do not have to offer you work when it is convenient for you.
Just hold your horses, ain't Christmas yet!
Rumors don't hold water with me.
GIVE FACTS or keep quiet. You keep trying to down TT everytime someone posts a question. I have asked you time and time again for the FACTS which you have not provided.
You heard....i.e., you DON'T know. You ASSUME. Why don't you go right to management and confront them and THEN AND ONLY THEN, come back to this board and post the TRUTH. Until then, stop trying to spread RUMORS!!!
I called earlier and hung up from being on hold so
long. Apparently lots of calls today. Wonder why?
I think it depends on the company and what position you hold. sm
If you are a Team Lead or manager, I think it would be a conflict of interest. If you are an IC, you should have more than one place that you do work for to be considered as an IC, otherwise you are an employee.
Don't hold your breath. You won't get an answer. There are posters (or maybe just 1) that s
come on here, make ominous statements and never answer questions for details. They are just troublemakers.
99% Indian offshore typed - They hold on
to US transcriptionists until a new account is up and running, then let you go. I am friends with someone that did QA for them - she told me that was the company's practice. She no longer works for them because she spent more time retyping reports.
I dont know this company but I would absolutely hold into a job I had until I was sure these
companies arent playing games. I dont trust any of them anymore.
I wouldn't hold my breath on more money
The entire medical field seeks perfection. Have you ever been a patient? If so, then would you want someone saying that they will not do a good job if they are not compensated for it? I'm sure there are plenty of MTs that will work for 5, 6, 7, and 8 cpl and the company they work for still requires perfection. I think you're being unrealistic. If there is a company out there paying more than 9 cpl, then let's hear about it other than someone who has been with the company for 10+ years. This business is going down in salary and certainly not up, and yes they do require perfection. Why shouldn't they?
Why not hold the company accountable for their apparent lack
of cash flow. If they can't pay, then they should tell their MTs and give them a chance to bail
same way an employee making $8 an hour. Hold some back.

Does background check include credit check?
Just hold on a second! You're the one who is on here acting superior and talking about weeding o
"bad" transcriptionists. Can't help but wonder how good you are when you can't even form a complete sentence.
I love it when people get on here and criticize others' abilities and talk about bad Transcriptionist when their own posts are so sloppy. I love the excuse, "I'm not working now." I try to be literate whether I'm working or not. I don't have to put on my "literacy hat" when I go to work. I wear it all the time, and although I certainly understand typos and make my fair share of them, I don't understand how or why someone chooses not to be literate simply because they're not working but suddenly transforms into a competent, literate person when they are working. I just don't get it. I guess for some, literacy truly is WORK.
Like I said, everyone makes mistakes. But the next time you sit up there on your pedestal, criticize others and talk about weeding out "bad" transcriptionists, you might want to proofread your own stuff so it doesn't come back to bite you in the butt.
