Crabbing, gourd painting, and bilking tourists might make us thirsty. :-)
Where are you that you are my neighbor? I didn't think anyone close to Kansas would admit it .. LOL.
I can't sleep either, but I think I am just restless. My a/c went out today and the maintenance guy couldn't get it fixed and will have to wait until tomorrow. Add 102 temps to the mix and you have one cranky MT!

Don't be so down on yourself. When that even better job comes open...sm
you'll be ready. No biggie, and don't let the meanies get to you. We all make mistakes, no one is perfect.
She did say she would call you when the next job came open. In the meantime, maybe call her back and ask her to make sure she calls your land line as it is the one you use most.
It won't open for me either.

Are your eyes open?
Do you work for OSi? If not, quit bashing them. If so, why haven't you secured another position due to your unhappiness?
why they keep amherst open
amherst office runs all of the east coast offices. So you are probably safe if you tell HR you want to be managed by the west coast team. I think they are much nices to their MTs
keep your ears open
things are being restructured,it will most likely affect your office.
Still cannot open the files
The people at Type Right mentioned that they use Gear Player and that is what I use and I still cannot open up the files. I called technical support and they could not figure it out either. They said the files were corrupted. Sounds like something strange is going on if the rest of the people cannot open up the files either. I think I better pass on this company!
they have my open position at TTS
I QUIT! LOL
here's an open post for you
you are an idiot
No, I mean 60 positions open

go open your own company and sm
maybe then you can give all your profits to the MTs. NOT! I bet you would be like any other business owner, keep the profits. That is the point of having your own business!
Okay, lets get something in the open. (sm)
I am so not stressing about it. It was a random question because I have been lied to in the past about having to take a pay cut. Was it really a true need or a true greed?
Lets not fight about. There is nothing wrong with wondering.
Always keep an open mind, but...
Been here, done this several times, none have resulted in mutual benefit. My position, Transcend has much to prove.
P.
I always keep an open mind
I kept an open mind when the company I worked for (ddi, Inc) sold out to the Q. It was fine for a couple of years and then......well, I wasn't there anymore, need I say more?
I see that open door
Yeah, I'll just get in line behind 10 former teammates that just got the ax, all the MDI'ers looking for a new gig, and locally, the 450 people whose plant just closed. Once I get through that crowd, I can then compete with my current teammates who are also looking for a second job/replacement job because they are eyeying the open door too, in between competing with one another for work.
Once I claw my way through the desperate crowd of job seekers and into another job, I can wait a year or so, run across the same scenario at the next company, and start looking for work again when their work pool mysteriously dries up.
Or I could just blow my brains out and avoid repeating this loathesome, demoralizing cycle for the next 20 years until I'm retirement age. Thanks for helping me ponder my options.
At least you stand up for yourself!
I am the HR person, QA, and trainer for a small company. We've had the same employees for more than 5 years, some as long as 10. Recently we had to hire a few new people because of growth.
People talk about wanting to be respected and wanting to keep the work here. I agree this needs to be done but in order to do that we have to have qualified people. IF somebody passes our simple test, which is transcribing real files, and we hire them, we tell them their line requirement. We don't even require set hours. We get people who won't do 200 lines per day, much less what is required. We get people who say they have 10 years of experience, yet require total read throughs, which cost us money. The incredibly bad ones we have to let go, which is incredibly hard for me to do, then come here and post how horrible the employer is. They don't mention the fact that 1) they still have our equipment even though they have their last check, 2) they failed to do their required lines per hour, 3) half the time they just didn't work at all PERIOD. Or I invest a great deal of time in training them and they quit with reasons like I didn't realize it would take four hours to work part time and get my lines, I didn't know working at home was like having a REAL job.
I don't know anything about your company at all, but I do know the frustration at being hammered on these forums without the real stories being told, so I think it's great that somebody actually takes up for their company. We do not outsource, but I have edited for companies who do, and the work is there ON TIME, even if it has to have minimal editing. If someone is sick, there's somebody to back them up. No whining, no emails from people who say that for the 10th time this month there was a wreck and their power is off, the dog is sick, I fell and hurt my back again, my dad is going to be ill in December so I'll need time off, my car broke down and I had to walk 5 miles home so that's why I am 8 hours late getting on, I was out all night partying and I have too much of a headache now to work. It's a real shame for the people who actually do work their tails off.
What does TTS stand for? nm

Take a stand.
Lest we get redirected to the politics board, let me make a few general observations. I would not look to the companies for resolution. They are only one player among many whose greed holds our country in their clutch...a tight, squeezing grip that impoverishes the poor, enriches the wealthy and make economic refugees of the ever-shrinking middle class. Look beyond the corruption of the politicians and whatever despair, frustration and hopeless you may feel. For a long and single moment, stare far back into the eyes or our history and ask these questions over and over and over again:
Why are we paid wages like we're a third world country. It'd be nice just to meet the bills, but between low wages and high costs of having insurance, which we have to have because our antidepressant medications are so flipping high, who can survive doing this anymore?
They are your questions. They are mine too. Why, indeed. Go and find your answers. Seek educated and balanced debates pros and cons, right and left. Here's a hint on how to start. You'll have to switch to something besides Fox and CNN to find this. Listen to the candidates. Follow the rhetoric and their platforms. Watch closely and be a tough critic. Put yourself around others who share these perspectives. Listen and contribute, teach and learn from one and the other. Identify your agenda and then go out and promote and support it.
Do this between now and this time next year. Then show up at the polls. You will know what to do. If you don't get what you want from the leadership and the legislators, do not disappear into the corner of the country. Get out there and go for it, over and over. This is not wasted effort. If you were a child of the 60s or 70s, you would believe this. In my life, sweeping, long-reaching and lasting reform has come and gone. Minorities and women still reap the benefits of those efforts from so long ago. The time is ripe for history to repeat itself.
PS: If this were 1970, you and I would be organizing (watch out, here comes that dirty word) LABOR UNIONS.
Could not stand it ..
First post I read was how nobody needs the BOS. Then I read this .. some days you just have to wonder how in the world people make a living if they really feel there need be no rules or standards. Forget India or Manila or Pakistan and for God sake, remember patient safety. There is a reason for standards and every time I come here I see someone shooting themselves in the foot with their incredibly illogical logic. Our jobs are about patient safety .. first, foremost and always.

Who is going to stand up for us?
We are all spread out, and the company I just came from kept everyone's name a secret, including how many working on the account, changes in schedules - everything.
And this is exactly why, so we CAN'T do anything about anything.
Which three offices will remain open?
Do you know?
I would open the discussion by calmly
asking what the procedure is for assigning work. If you don't get the info you need, ask if there are any other accounts available which will enable you to be more productive. If you are working in an atmosphere where you are afraid to ask questions, it sounds like the wrong job and you might need a change. Good luck.
Does anyone have the # to Spheris Help Desk? My TWS will not open. TIA

As for the name of the guy you talked to in India, I have noticed that with Dell Computers. When you get tech support, whether on the phone or by email or instant message, they always have an American-sounding name. That seems purposely deceptive.

Well, someone has to be working holidays...ERs are open 24/7/365
If you are doing acute care I think it is just a given that you are going to have to cover some holidays. Just like the doctors, nurses, admissions, and the rest of the hospital staff... someone has to work it. The only holiday I'd mind working actually is Christmas, the rest can be adjusted to fit my schedule. But I am lucky and live close to family and don't have travel concerns. Guess I'll take my extra cpl and be happy with it.
JLG had some positions open last year using WP5.1, too.

That was not my case. I was very open-minded
and hopeful that things would work out. I based my decisions soley on my experience and not the experience of others, but like I said AL is good because I'm in a much better place now.

An opportunity has finally come open-- What would you do?
Okay, I've posted on this forum several times indicating I'm burned out after 32 years of transcribing, and the lack of work at times, diminishing benefits, no 401K and I'm 53 years old, along with my lack of momentum, and such. Well, I have had the opportunity to apply for two outside jobs in my community, both of which sounds promising. 1) A State job as an adiministrative support personnel that has nothing to do with transcription (13 paid holidays, 13 sick days accrual, 13 vacation days accrural, company paid health insurance, company paid retirement plus 401K, and so on)- The catch- pay range 22, 272 - 36,489 . The second 2) A County job at either our local county hospital or county health department as a Medical Transcriptionist (excellent benefits also, but not as good as the State job) but better than what I have now. (The pay 32,400 - 48,500). Which would you choose? I know looking at the pay, one would say that's a no brainer, however, although the county has not outsourced their transcription department over these many years yet, does not necessarily mean they will not in the future, and I would hate to end up right back where I started from, and although the State job pay starts out low, it is possible that they can start me off somwhere in the middle of that range, but the job is a secure one. Give me your ideas on which you would choose?
And I like how they say to keep Word open and type as they come in...sm
Like I am going to sit here for 8 hours and wait for one job an hour to come in and type it right away so it can meet the clients needs. I understand it's slow today cuz of the holidays but sick of their emails telling us we need to be on when they are off and there isn't even work.
I agree. My eyes are open too and sm
I trusted these people to operate decently. If they are giving work to a company that doesn't pay people for work performed (even if it's bad, you know they have to be fixing it before sending it back and collecting their pay on it), then they don't deserve my trust. These people at WMX are just as sneaky as the other companies, it turns out.
Open letter to MDI and other employers going to VR
In VR:

MT translation:
Dear MDI,
As an MT with 20 years’ experience, I was very distressed to learn that I will shortly be demoted from an MT to a VR “editor” making far less money than my training and years of experience deserve. You are, no doubt, counting on technology to eventually fix the bugs in your VR software. Meanwhile, you are jeopardizing a valuable resource. Some of us would much rather retire than see our talents misused by working as VR editors. To whom will you turn when this VR idea fails to pan out? Many of us believe it is time to retire or find another line of work.
Personally, what I have always enjoyed about transcription work is the actual typing, the rhythm and flow, inserting a punctuation mark here, subtly correcting syntax there, and turning a complete mishmash of a dictation into a readable report. Let’s face it, many doctors are complete idiots. They dictate the wrong medications, or the right ones at potentially fatal doses. They mumble, rustle papers, talk to colleagues, eat, belch into the phone and make other bodily noises while they dictate. Even native English speakers often do not have the first idea of proper sentence structure or grammar. Yet, you expect all of us to clean up a VR mess for half the money we are making now? We think not!
So, cut costs as you wish, in 1 or 2 years when VR comes to our accounts (or before) we will have found something else to do, and the profession will be poorer for the loss of all of us. Have a nice day!
I had an open mind & tried really hard on VR
As an experienced MT, I soon realized that this was just NOT going to work out (for me). It does honestly take longer to edit a report than it does to straight type it. I gave it a month but couldn't afford to do it that much longer and quit.
As an experienced MT, you just know when an account is going to work out or not, and I knew this wouldn't work out. The pay was so low, the work took longer to do, and I couldn't foresee much changing after a month trying. Some may say to give it a longer period of time, but, honestly, at 3 cents a line, I couldn't afford to do that.
With regular MT work, I know within a couple of weeks if it's an account that will work for me as far as making money, taking into account any bad dictators, the platform, etc., once I got used to all these particulars. With this VR, I just couldn't foresee how I could make any $$ with it, even with eventually getting used to it.
I don't see why they don't just pay us the regular line count for VR. There's no reason to cut pay so drastically for us when the job STILL requires the same expertise as straight typing as far as knowledge and experience.
Such a complete ripoff.
I might add it seems that most of the clients that use MTSOs who utilize VR don't even know they're doing it, so they're STILL paying the same rate to the MTSO while the MTSO cuts the MTs' pay. Looks to me like the MTSOs are giving themselves a HUGE RAISE and tripling their income with this wonderful little invention called VR.
RIPOFF!! Slave labor!! MTs can now call their home offices SWEATSHOPS.
