MT equipment is often not compatible with VoIP too.

For example:

If you need your (*) key to sign off on a job, it may not work because some phone plans/phone cards will use that key to disconnect you so you can dial another number to avoid having to dial in again and enter your whole ID# and PIN# all over again.
Same goes for the (#) key; some may use this key for that function, which might be a key you need to get the header info. for each job or to repeat the header info.

It's very difficult for an MT to find a LD plan, and unfortunately, some MT companies out there don't realize this or simply don't care.

VOIP doesn't work with it.
I was specifically told, when I went to work for them, that Vonage, Skype, and other VoIP systems do not work with the dial-in dictation systems because of signal degradation and depending on the carrier, the tones the system needed to hear were different.

I don't know if that is still the case, but prepare yourself in case it is.
VOip and digital are not necessarily the same.
VOip is voice over internet protocol.  I have digital phone and it is not over the internet, uses a regular phone line.  It is not connected to my computer at all, thus you don't get the hesitations, etc.
As far as I know cable phone or Voip is the
only true long distance.  I had it through TWC in my area (we don't have Comcast).  AT&T has a 5000 minute limit, which if you only work PT would probably be enough.  I know someone who got 2 phone numbners, had unlimited on both, used one for half the month and then switched to the other.  She ended up paying more than I did for my digital phone service.
A few are compatible, but not all. More are becoming compatible though which is nice. sm

I don't know why it's not compatible
Are you talking about your MS Word autotext?
As far as I know, nothing is compatible with Medrite, sm
especially if you are working in DOS. I worked on it for over a year and never did get the hang of remembering my own word expansions. I used IT too long and could not get used to anything else.
VISTA IS COMPATIBLE
I dont know who told you VISTA was not compatible but it most certainly is! I bought a new laptop with Vista and have been working without any problems whatsoever. If you're having a problem downloading it, it's because you must first sign in as, run as administrator...then it will download for you...
Anybody know of any companies that are compatible with the

Would love to be working on my own computer which has Vista on it.

Help me out if you know any companies that have software compatible with Vista now.

Is the platform compatible with an expansion
I don't mean using the features in MS-Word (Auto-Text, etc.), but something like Smartype or Shorthand? When I interviewed with them a couple of years ago, I was very impressed with them, but I can't fly without an Expander and there were issues with Lotus not counting expanded text with every expander I asked to use with it. It was only for that reason that I did not accept a position with them.

Does anyone know if ChartScript is compatible with Windows Vista?
I just ordered a new HP laptop with Windows Vista, and I was wondering if anyone knows if the ChartScript.net platform will run on Vista without any problems. I want to be able to take my laptop with me when I travel so that I can work on the road.

You just need to find a company that uses Bayscribe. There may be other platforms but I don't know of any.
Does anyone know, is the Meditech program with Keystrokes compatible sm

Keystrokes' ads all say WindowsXP or 2000. Vista is not compatible sm
with most platforms, which is not the fault of the company.

You were not fired; the offer letter states that employment is pending IS approval of your computer. Vista is NOT compatible with most MT platforms at this time. No one would have told you to purchase that. We do just the opposite and tell everyone NOT to purchase VISTA as it is does not work with our hospitals.
Is Instant Text compatible with Axolotl's platform? Thanks!

Or do they have their own expansion software?  If so, what is it?

Thanks!

Is Dictaphone EXText compatible with Word 2007?

Not true anymore. More platforms are Vista compatible. sm
I work for Keystrokes and bought a new computer about 3 months ago. I asked if Vista worked and I was told that it is about 50/50 right now and more are compatible all the time. This is everywhere, not just Keystrokes.

Reputable company w/ platform compatible w/ InstanText/Shorthand

Am heavily dependent on sophisticated Expanders that incorporate code script, like ShortHand and InstanText.  Can anyone recommend reputable employers whose platforms are compatible with these programs?

Supposedly new upgrade for WordClient is compatible with Vista, per our mgmt.

We are about to do an upgrade, and they say it will be compatible with Vista with this new upgrade of WordClient.  Yipeeee

MDI-ers: Is Instant Text compatible with MDI's platform? Do they offer health benefits? nm

Equipment
You can rent a C-phone or Lanier unit from them, but you have to provide your own computer. You have to pay your own LD charges. No benefits as we are statutory employees. I've been with MDI for 18 months and have been very happy there.
Equipment?
Just hired.  They require a $40 dollar lease payment a month for special pedal needed.
You must use their equipment, for which there is $200
zz
No, I have all my own equipment. sm
My checks were short and late from the very first check.
Equipment
I know that KS just stopped providing equipment. I asked my lead why and she told me flat out that it was taking a FT person to keep track of it, the shipping costs were getting out of hand and they were no longer going to stock endless supplies of it all.

When they made the decision, the owner contacted us all and offered it all dirt cheap: Pedals were $50, c-phones $100 and Lanier machines $200.

I have worked for many, far too many IMO, MTSOs and have always had to have my own equipment. It is part of being an MT.

I have been with KS for 2 years. During that time, they have been fair to me, have paid me on time and correctly and have always provided me with enough work to pay my bills, send 2 kids to college (2 more years and I am done!!!!!) and no have to depend on an ex-husband who does not always remember that child support is not optional.

If someone did not have to pay for their equipment, perhaps they worked something out with the office; I am sure if someone could not afford to purchase, even with being able to break it into 4 payments, the owner would have made special arrangements and probably just gave it to them. They're like that there. They look out for their own.

This is your job. You need to have the necessary equipment
A fax machine is standard equipment in the year 2007.  If you work from home, you need to have the basics.  Either that or pay the $1.50 a page and DEFINITELY do NOT complain to the company about it.
Equipment is now on the way...
I'll get it 30 something days after hire. So things are moving...just veeeery slowly.
